Well no one voted so I picked favorites. So enjoy as Team MLLF follow Caboose into the jungle. In honor of Mr. Joel Heyman and his work at Rooster Teeth.
Also sorry for the scare and waste of a chapter, but keep in mind I got that message late at night, I'm also going to delete that chapter so don't fret.
[Back At The Airship With RWBY]
"Professor Oobleck?" Weiss paused as she was still puzzled by the fact Doctor Oobleck was their huntsman to shadow on this mission.
The Doctor began to pace back and forth as he corrected the team in front of him, "Yes I'm afraid those bags won't be necessary girls. Seeing as you've opted to shadow a huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission. I can assure you we will not be establishing a single base of operations. Rather we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland, and making camp in any defendable locations we may stumble upon. I've packed all our essentials myself provided the air course and readied the airship. And! It's Dr. Oobleck. I didn't earn a PhD for fun thank you very much." He spoke faster than Caboose after he got a sip of Church's dark coffee, "Come now children, according to my schedule we are already 3 minutes behind, schedule." With that he zoomed all the way to the ship.
With Oobleck now gone, Team RWBY had time to converse amongst themselves, "Well alright then looks like we're going to save the world with, Dr. Oo-bleck okay yeah when you say it out loud it sounds worse."
"Save the World??" Nora had yelled as Team JNPR had arrived on the scene, "You're going on world-saving missions without us?? I'm hurt and sad! Maybe a little hungry? That last one is not your fault though, Ren!"
"Sounds exciting. Where ya heading for RRH?" Church asked as Caboose and the rest of team MLLF joined in.
"RRH?" Ruby wondered.
"Red Riding Hood." Church answered.
"Oh, well we're heading just outside the Kingdom." Ruby answered.
Nora then joined back in, still chipper, "Hey, so are we."
"Same here." Caboose added.
"Ren and Nora wanted to shadow the Sheriff of a nearby village." Pyrrah added.
"We set out Tomorrow." Ren finished.
Out of nowhere Sun and Neptune popped up into the group, "Then you can party with us tonight. We're shadowing a crime specialist. All inner-city detective stuff. We get junior badges." Neptune bragged about their duty.
"Boo! Detectives suck." Grif shouted as he walked by.
"You suck!" Neptune shouted back.
"You swallow." Simmons said as the two duo from team DRFL had been joined by the rest of the team.
"Well, looks like the gangs are all here." Emerald said as her and her badass team strolled up to the group, "So what's up? where you guys heading?" Emerald asked all leaders but mainly faced Caboose.
"We're hanging back to help Salem go visit a spiritual village close to the mountains." Simmons answered.
"Ooh, well we're heading far down south in the swampy marshes to clear out some really dangerous Grimm." Caboose eagerly replied.
Emerald gave a worried face like a mother, "Well you be safe okay?"
Caboose then cocked his head to the side in confusion, "What about you guys?"
Emerald fiddled with her fingers as she explained her mission, "Oh, well some huntsman went missing a week ago and they asked the school to assist in the search. We'll be shadowing Professor Peach."
"Well we have-" Ruby began to speak.
"Four minutes, ladies!" Doctor Oobleck yelled from the airship.
A few months of awkward silence passed until Tucker broke the tension, "Could be worse."
"How could it be any wors-" Blake was about to question.
Until an authority filled voice cut her off, "Hurry up gentlemen, we have no time to doddle, every second we waste is another second those Grimm run freely. So move it." Glynda ordered as she marched through the crowd towards their airship.
Then another awkward silence moment came by, "Welp. Ain't no rest for the wicked." Church finished as he threw his larger duffle bag over his shoulder and picked up his smaller one in his right hand and made his way to the dropship.
Caboose took a moment as he looked anxious about something, as he hopped up and down for a moment he then hugged Emerald and whoever else was caught in his big strong embrace. As he snuggled his friends close he spoke to all of them, "One hug okay."
Caboose joined Church and Doc as he jogged ahead, while Tucker stayed behind for a goodbye, "Wel, mi amors. Until we meet again soon; my heart will ache forever or until we see each othe-" Tucker poetically serenaded, until he heard a BANG and something graze his foot. He turned to see Church aiming his revolver at him and lost it, "DUDE!!!"
"Get in asshole, we're going hunting." Church smiled as he holstered his weapon before Glynda gave the back of his head a THWACK from her riding crop.
[About An Hour Or More Later]
They were arriving over the thick, moist trees of the deep south of Vale. The air was hot and smelled of the humid vegetation and swamp life infested waters of the land. Any normal human being would have to be crazy to step foot in these lands. Crazy, or be born and raised in these kind of conditions; but our group is just crazy.
As Church glanced over the land he looked back at Glynda Goodwitch. Who had traded her high heels for hiking boots and her skirt for black cargo shorts. He simply wanted to make sure she was perfectly able to handle herself in these conditions, "With all due respect ma'am, are you sure you are prepared?"
"Young man I have encountered several conditions worse than this since you were in diapers. I am sure I can handle myself, the question remains: 'can you keep up?'" Glynda answered.
Caboose saw in the distance what appeared to be small towns, villages and even large cities. He thought this was supposed to be more of a wilderness retreat than anything else, "Are we in the right area?"
"Yes, we are almost at the drop off zone." Glynda notified.
"But I thought we were supposed to be in swamp ands forest land." Caboose wondered.
Church then glanced at Caboose, "Caboose, do you know what this place is?"
"No, why? Was it on Oobleck's test?" Caboose panicked.
Church shook his head, "This is or was Appalachia. One of the first attempts at settlements before the Great War. Many people loved the rich free area, great for harvests, hunting and having a family. It was a peaceful and beautiful place, before they dropped bombs on it. The super tyrannical walking bag of shit-tits that believed in conquering people. As a show of power they dropped experimental bombs here, wiping almost everyone out, those who survived became monsters. Not much is here now."
As the conversation between the men continued Doc politely interrupted, "Excuse me, not much is here right?"
"Yes that is correct." Glynda replied to her well behaved student.
"Then what are those?" Doc questioned pointing towards what appeared to be a psychiatric hospital. The front of the office had been fitted with different types of defenses. Empty baracades and loose sandbags layed spread out, but one structure remained untouched. Right in the middle of the front entrance was a missile defense truck, which was active.
"INCOMING!!!" Church yelled as the rockets had released from their container and flew towards the dropship. The pilots had very little time to react as by the time they noticed the rockets had just seconds before impact. The co-pilot was able to release the flares to distract the rockets but was a little too late as the heat and fire from the rockets had crippled the ships wings.
The pilot pulled on the controls as hard as she could but couldn't keep it in the air forever, "Damn it. We're heading for the forest area. Brace for impact!"
CRASH
[Minutes Later]
Caboose had rose from the crashed wreckage, he was yards away from the actual burning destroyed ship. As he pushed against the ground his ears were ringing and his hands were scratched and his right side of his entire body had been bruised from the impact. When he got his footing he immediately began a quest of looking for Church.
Which he completed rather quickly as Church had been carrying the copilot out of the airship as Doc and Glynda attended to the main pilot. Tucker was right next to Caboose as he helped the big guy from falling off of his feet. Caboose's head felt rattled, "Wh-what happened?"
"Well when the ship was crashing down the pilot found a grassy hill to crash down on. Then Church pushed all of us out and pulled you, the pilot and co-pilot out far as he could before the ship hit the floor." Tucker relayed the story.
Caboose grew sparkles in his eyes as he glanced at his new hero, "So what do we do now?"
"Our mission does not change due to our situation, but we must find camp so we can rest up for tonight." Glynda notified.
Caboose nodded as he thought about what to do, "Church, you're an okay hunter right?"
"Well, I do know of another that's better but I'd say I'm above average." Church said as he unstrapped the rifle from his back.
"Okay, good." Caboose then thought of his next move, "You scout ahead and little and we'll follow closely behind."
Church tipped his hat in agreement as he walked east down the hill and towards the mountains. The mountains that had divided the forest green area, the ash heap to the south, and the toxic valley to the north from the mire up north east and the bog to the southeast. Church knew even though the mountains had its own fair share of dangers, they still had the best view to see the danger.
Before Church set out on his task Glynda halted the group, "Hold on, seeing as how I am the main huntress in charge of this whole operation I suggest we stay close together at all times, but we must find a way to carry the unconscious co-pilot."
"With this." Doc exclaimed as he had made a stretcher from a large slap of rectangular metal from the ship, some clothes from the bandages he carried, and two poles from the ships junk pile.
Glynda now pleased had given a small smile as her team of students had shown great teamwork. The main pilot grabbed her sub machine gun and went Glynda, "Locked and loaded ma'am, your orders."
"We head to the mountains and find us a place to fortify and camp. Mr. Church will lead, while Mr. Tucker and Dufranse carry your co-pilot, Mr. Caboose and I shall watch your six." Glynda elaborated her plan.
Tucker then saw some figures walking in the distance, "Hey why don't we ask the locals for help?" He said as he pointed to the few figures walking in the distance.
"Hold on!" Church said as he took out his telescope from his second large bag, "Those are shadow stalkers: they normally travel at night but resemble human shadows so they can slowly creep up on you. They are just like other Grimm but when startled they will let out a loud shriek alerting others like them. The best option is to double back before..."
"They see us." Tucker interrupted.
"What?" Doc asked concerned for the group.
"They see us!"
Caboose took another action, "Line up." he barked as Church and him began to lay cover fire at those things charging towards them. While Tucker and the pilot waited for others to get closer.
Church fired his twin revolvers with such precision cracking and breaking their skull plated faces. Two had gotten through his fire as he needed to reload, so he threw his guns in the air and sprung his two Derringers from his wrists. Blasting those two small bullets at his targets made them fall to the floor, as his revolvers fell into his hands he picked up his rifle from the floor and made his way towards Doc to help protect the injured co-pilot.
Caboose let all his rounds fly as he emptied his magazine all around his targets. His rapid fire assault rifle shredded the first five to six coming at him as he backed up to reload five more followed him. When he finally reloaded his gun, the first shadow stalkers grabbed his arm that stabilized his aim. With his free hand he fired at the ones coming behind the one who held him by using his shoulder to hold it steady. The blade from the chainsaw moved back and forth as Caboose shot the other three, cutting the one on his arm across the shoulder to it's opposite waist side. As the last one rushed Caboose, he pushed his rifle's handle into it's face and knocked it to the floor. While the one on the floor tried to get up Caboose walked over to it's head and stomped on it's face, evaporating it to dust.
The last ones charged Doc and the pilot as she fired 10 mm bullets from her sub machine gun knocking two down while the last seven rushed them. Tucker came in for the rescue as he leaped over their heads to slice the first one across the torso. He spun around as he slashed others from their waists. One lept into the air as Tucker cut him down the middle with a bigger jump. Tucker saw the last two in a line, he threw his sword stabbing the last two in the head, like a Grimm kabob. The last one got the jump on Tucker as he was now unarmed, holding this biter back with his own strength in arms.
As it was about to devour a chunk from Tucker's face, Doc came to the rescue and tossed the shadow stalker to the floor. Doc had one hand on it's chest and the other on its arm, but the free arm was loose and scratched him across the chest. With his vest ruined and the small cut from it's bony nails; Doc was now angered for once. Seeing a small rock from his side, he picked up the stone and proceeded to bash its head in. Slam after slam, he continued for nearly ten times screaming and grunting with each hit. Until Church grabbed his shoulder, "Doc, we're good. You're done."
"What? Oh, sorry I just never did something like this." Doc admitted.
Church picked up, "It's fine, just caught me by surprise."
Glynda readjusted her sunglasses, "Please, we must hurry before it becomes night fall. Church you were covering the front while Caboose watched the rear, correct?" She questioned.
Church nodded as he took the lead in front of the pilot, while Tucker and Doc were picking up the stretcher with the co-pilot, Glynda positioned herself behind Church as Caboose went to the back.
[10 Minutes Into The Hike]
The group had been passing by an old abandoned university with different dorms, frat houses and school buildings. It was here that she begun her interviews with each of her students. Who more appropriate than the team's weakest link.
As Doc and the team had stopped to combat the Grimm, he had been tending to the now conscious co-pilot as he gave him some water. Glynda pulled out her clipboard from her bag, "Mr. Franklin Dufranse, did you know you only passed the written and physical exams of the training schools prior to Beacon?"
"Yes, I am. However I am unsure as to why I was not given my scores." He replied.
"Because your grades for combat were incomplete."
"Oh, that's because I didn't participate in the combat course. My teacher at Vacuo understood what I had wanted to do."
Glynda seemed to be a mix of both angry and curious as he was persistent and confident in his answer, "Then what is it that you want to do?"
Doc paused for a brief moment, "I grew up in a town run by a gang. They would shake people for money and beat people down. When some people fought back everyone, the gang members, the citizens and the police would get hurt. I realized something then. Everyone is so content with tearing this world apart, would it be bad that I want to put a little piece of it together. I will serve and protect the people but instead of taking lives, I'm gonna be saving lives."
Glynda's expression remained unchanged as she walked pass him and went back to the group, "I see."
[20 Minutes Go By]
The shadowing huntress decided to speak with the next one on her list, the person who is most easily distracted. Lavernius Tucker, who was one of the most horniest beings she has ever met in her entire life. He displayed signs of a decent fighter but had little to no form of professionalism.
As the team were crossing a dam, the had slowly been maneuvering as their position was exposed the most. As they walked through while Church and Caboose surveyed the area, she got behind Tucker while the pilot took the new lead.
"Mr. Tucker." Glynda called out.
Tucker, who's arms were getting tired from carrying the injured co-pilot, who couldn't walk from the twisted ankle and dislocated knee cap, struggled to respond for a moment, "Yes, Miss Glynda?"
"Why do you fight?"
Tucker was able to make it across the bridge to the other side to think about his answer, "I read stories about heroes, and that inspired me to become more than what I was. When I achieved my peak physical form there was no doubt what I wanted to do."
"I understand." Glynda nodded as she continued to scribble in her clipboard.
[1 Hour Goes By: The Party Nears A Grotto]
Church who had been covering the party from the front has guided them to their now resting spot. They went approximately 10 miles through this terrifying barren wasteland filled with terrible beasts and monsters. From the plentiful forest, through the deserted streets of the cities and over the tall mountains they had came to their destination in the swamp. Church had made a stop at spot of land protected by five large trees which lifted their roots above the floor. This pit-like landmark would prove beneficial for cover and protection.
After taking a stop, Church turned around to face the group and threw his rifle across his shoulders to hold, "Alright we'll rest up here. Eat, drink and check your weapons."
Caboose nodded and turned back to the group, "You heard him. Take a break team."
"Hold on, why should we stop now?" Glynda questioned as she went to confront Church, "We've made it this far, why do we need to stop when our mission is so close."
"Because Tucker and Doc are tired from carrying the injured co-pilot, we can't risk the pilot getting injured and we need to regain our strength to be prepared what we are hunting." Church responded as he dropped his bags into the cradle of the trees.
Glynda still unsatisfied spoke up again, "Why do you call the shots instead of your leader?"
"I don't. I just know how to hunt in these areas and Caboose trusts my knowledge." Church replied, "And I hope you'll trust me."
"Listen here young man," Glynda demanded as she marched to Church who was in the center of the nest of the trees, "I only trust students who have earned it, simply because you have done well for one does not mean you have my trust. It certainly also means that you do not have the authority here. And I say we-"
Church listened until his eyes rolled to the side and he walked off to do some reconnaissance. Glynda puffed her cheeks in frustration at the lack of respect Church had shown. She wasn't about to have that, so she stomped off after him to demand what she deserved.
"So... what now?" The pilot asked the rest of the team.
"Well, we wait until we catch our breathe and they return, then we head out." Caboose answered as if it were a test, giving him a small sense of accomplishment.
[With Church and Glynda]
Church had his rifle in his hand as he headed southeast a little ways away from the camp, protecting the perimeter would keep his team alive. As he was about to move to circle around the side, he stopped to hear Glynda struggling within the vines that she thought she could squeeze through. Church turned to his left and saw Ms. Goodwitch on the other side of a vine wall trying to pull on one of the vines.
Church had two options in his mind, let her struggle or help out the lady, that depends on her action. He grabbed his machete and rested his free arm on the tree, "Need a hand?"
"Clear me a way so we can discuss your attitude." Glynda demanded.
Church stroked his chin as he began to reconsider, "Well, I'd love to, however I don't believe you said the magic word."
"Of all the disrespectful... arrogant... egotistical... brats I've met I expected you to be as much of a gentleman ask your father." Glynda gritted through her teeth.
Sighing for a breather, Church raised his machete and cleared her a path, "Apologies, I just don't respect those who disrespect me. What is it you wish to discuss?"
"Well I accept your apology, I still wish you would show me more respect." She said readjusting her skirt, "Now I assume you know what I am going to ask."
"Yes, I do. You were going to ask me why I want to become a huntsman?" Church responded as he holstered his rifle and slashed through more vines, "Simple. It's in my blood. My mother and father were hunters, I wanted to be just like them. I owe it to them, for everything."
"Do you believe your parents would want you doing this?" Glynda asked.
Church swung a large vine down and turned around, "Oh hell no, they wouldn't want any of their children doing this. But, I know that they will support me no matter what. Despite whatever you may hear."
As Glynda acknowledged the good work with a nodded she stepped forward on something dangerous. A small click that only Church could hear triggered as his instincts took over and grabbed Miss Goodwitch. Arrows of steel impacted his large coat's sleeve as they scratched his fur; but he had protected Glynda in the process. At this moment, Church had pressed Glynda up against a tree and joined her to call over the rest of the group.
When the rest of the group arrived Tucker came first to see the scene, "Whoa, Church do you guys want a moment?" He asked, after seeing their position.
"Lavernius, It is not like that!" Miss Goodwitch denied the accusation of doing any sexual act in any such way with her students.
Church growled at Tucker as a warning, "There are traps everywhere."
Tucker, being Tucker, shook off the idea as he walked around them, "If there were, don't you think I would've triggered one by-" Tucker stopped as he felt his foot land on something. Tucker used his sword to clear the leaves and mud to discover he lightly stepped on a landmine.
Caboose rushed up to join them to find the same scene, but didn't assume like Tucker and instead asked Miss Goodwitch, "What's wrong, I heard shouts and clicks."
"Mr. Caboose stop, this area is booby..." Glynda attempted to warn her pupil until Caboose was launched in the air with a net. When Caboose came down his assault rifle was on the floor near Church, and below his net opened up a pit of spikes if he tried to get down, "...trapped."
"Heh, you said-"
"TUCKER!!!" Everyone shouted.
As their situation was seemingly the worst they could be, Doc arrived, "Uh guys."
"Let me guess you got you and the pilots into a trap?" Church questioned.
Doc had a different tone of nervousness in his throat, "Actually, worse."
Everyone looked at Doc and the pilots to find them at gunpoint with a gun to Doc and the pilots head with the co-pilot with a knife to his. The gunmen stayed in the shadows for a moment, but there was a familiar scent to them that Caboose and Church picked up. As they stepped forward the scents connected to their figures as they saw the dapper faces they belonged to.
"Wyoming, Torchwhick, Neo." Church addressed.
Wyoming smiled as he stepped past his hostage, "Great Scott, Leonard? What brings you here?"
"Y'know, school." Church answered casually, "Little help."
"Oh, of course. One moment if you'd please." Wyoming answered as he turned to Roman, who pulled out a device and the spikes under Caboose were covered and Tucker's landmine was deactivated. Neo pulled out some pliers and released the arrows out of the tree.
"Thanks, now we can talk like gentlemen." Church started until Glynda made a defensive pose and aimed her riding crop at them.
"Or not?" Roman quipped as he raised his hands up.
Glynda put an arm out, as if she was protecting children, "Stand back boys, these men are highly dangerous criminals."
Church rolled his eyes as he walked forward to shake Wyoming's hand, "So what brings you guys here?"
"Hunting retreat. We're officially retired." Wyoming answered back.
Roman stood next to his partner, "However, I don't believe what we're hunting is true."
"Again? I told you..." Wyoming began as someone was left in the dark.
Glynda wore a confused face as she couldn't understand the situation, "I'm sorry but... what... the fuck?!"
"Oh, Church is speaking with his Vale and Mistral teachers." Caboose explained after getting his foot out of the net.
"Teachers?! But they're criminals!"
Tucker then walked up beside Miss Goodwitch and added to that answer, "True, however the evidence gathered against was incomplete and lazily put together. Their criminal sentence only went through because the prosecutor, the jury and the judge were all backed by a certain Major Ironwood at the time."
"Ugh, James." Glynda muttered under breathe.
Back with the conversation, "...Therefore, the Gargantuans have chosen to reside her due to the large forests they reside in." Wyoming concluded.
Church looked back at his group and decided to do his part for his team, "Excuse me gentlemen, I hate to impose but, you think your camp has enough room to house a few students?"
Roman and Reginald took a minute to debate this among themselves and came to an agreement, "We should have room, however our services are not cheap." Roman replied.
"You know I'm good for the money?" Church bargained.
"Very well, this way if you would." Wyoming placed his safari hat on walked towards the grotto with the new group following.
[At The Grotto]
The Hunting Grotto was a large wooden and glass mansion that hung in the trees. Above ground and out of the dirt, the outside was camouflaged with green, grey, brown and black paints. Wyoming picked up a large stick and pulled the rope ladder down.
After they made their way into the front entrance the inside was a hunter's, scholar's and gentlemen's retreat. Trophies of well made taxidermed creatures of Grimm hung on the walls, so well crafted that they looked real. Bookshelves we're everywhere in the main room, it felt like a study more than a house or living room. In a glass trophy case, were displayed bountiful bottles of hundreds of year old liquor of different varieties. If you were anything like the fine gentlemen who owned this place, it would be heaven.
"Now we'd love to give you the grand tour but we have prior arrangements to get back to." Reginald Wyoming said with a tip of his hat.
Roman Torchwhick put an arm across Wyoming's shoulder, "Yes, and if you need anything, Neo would be delighted to assist." And just like that the couple retreated to their west wing.
Neo looked at the large group and beckoned her finger for them to follow. Seeing no other choice they went after her to the east side of the manor. She led them through a door to a large living quarters, she had opened sliding doors to 8 individual rooms, each room to a twin sized cot in each room with a desk and a mirror.
Caboose, filled with enthusiasm rushed to his room and tossed his bag into the quarter at the end of the right side hall. Doc took the room across from Caboose as he slowly made his way to his, and return to assist the co-pilot into the room next to his. The pilot and Glynda took the other two rooms at the left side of the hall and Church took the room closer to Caboose.
Before Tucker went into his room he was Neo out all night, "So where do you sleep?"
Neo communicated with signs, which threw Tucker for a loop for a moment.
"One moment." Tucker leaned in for a kiss, but was met with a knife to the throat, "Church, little help?"
Church viewed the scene, while he didn't like Tucker he wanted to go to sleep fast, "Neo, he learns languages like that, trust me, it's literally in his DNA."
Neo removed the blade and decided to give him a small pecked on the lips, "You better understand this now."
"You think so little of me?" Tucker replied.
Neo smiled, "Well, guess you can keep your ear."
"Wait, what if I get lonely tonight? Will you f*# me in?" Tucker flirted.
Neo moved as though she giggled, "You mean tuck?"
"You saw me." Tucker corrected himself.
Neo stopped communicating and simply kissed him on the cheek. And swayed her hips to the side, back and forth. She wasn't tall or too voluptuous, but she had the right curves in all the right places.
"Oh, she digs me."
End of Chapter 25.
Sorry for the wait, been very busy trying to get a part time job and am having very little luck. Also Someone asked what was Doc's weapon, I hope this chapter explains it.
Til next time, Churchisalive signing off.
