"okay! Okay! I'm coming!" Eliza shouted as she leaned the mop against the counter and trotted to the door.
"Now what the heck is so ..." She trailed off as she opened the door to find Wyatt standing on the other side, his breath coming in ragged pants.
He wasted no time, he strode up to her, clasped her in his arms and kissed her like his life depended on it.
He felt her gasp of surprise against his mouth before she promptly wrapped her arms around his neck and returned the kiss with an equally passionate one of her own.
"All I want is to be with you, I can't think about anything else. I'll sleep on the couch if I have to." He said, his voice rough with emotion.
However as he spoke, he felt a sharp pang of disappointment because the LAST thing be wanted to do was sleep alone.
' shame on you!' the responsible side of his brain chastised him, and he immediately felt like a huge jerk for even thinking like that.
She rolled her eyes humorously at him, her face harboring a grin.
"You don't have to sleep on the couch, silly! This house has two spare bedrooms ... If you ... You know... want your own room that is." She said as she bashfully brushed a lock of hair out of her eyes.
He offered a grin.
"We'll figure it out. In the meantime, I can help you finish cleaning." He said
She brightened." That would be great! You can start on the upstairs while I finish down here." She said.
"Yes ma'am!" He said, playfully saluting her as he bounded up the stairs
Eliza laughed and shook her head endearingly as she carried on with her cleaning, she let her mind wonder as she often did when she had to do tedious, but necessary tasks.
She couldn't believe that they had gone from ignoring and denying their feelings to Wyatt gifting her with the gorgeous necklace that not only was a symbol of his feelings for her, it also told everyone that she was his.
Normally, Eliza had an independent streak a mile wide, and normally, she wouldn't have taken very kindly to this notion. But strangely enough, the thought of her being ' his' filled her with a warm, joyous feeling instead.
For so long she had had a very cynical outlook on love, as well as being referred to by someone as 'theirs'.
It took falling in love herself to show her how wrong she'd been, that ' belonging ' to someone meant that their heart, and their soul were YOURS, and likewise, you belonged to them in the same way.
NOW she understood what Zed meant when he said that Addy ' owned ' him, and also understood what Addy meant when she said that she belonged to him.
"Hey." Wyatt's voice roused her from her thoughts.
"I've finished the upstairs, I even did the bathrooms." He said as he made a face.
She blinked and looked around her and realized that she had cleaned the entire downstairs all while lost in thought.
"Well, it looks like we're done here, wanna play some video games?"
"No thanks, I'll pass ... I always end up getting killed, but I LOVE watching you play though." He said as he grinned lopsidedly at her.
Eliza felt her slow heart flutter in her chest, he was so cute when he did that
He put away his cleaning supplies and joined her on the couch as she put on her headset and began to play.
Wyatt watched, riveted as she blew past level after level and vanquished enemy after enemy.
"Wow, Eliza! If they had video games in the Olympics, you'd WIN!" He exclaimed
"Well, they actually do kind of have something like that, it's the gaming world championships, the best gamers from all over the world come to play and you can win money." She explained
"You could so do that! " He said
She shrugged in reply. "It's really hard to get in, it's by invitation only, and I don't think it matters how good I am, I don't think they'll want a zombie at their competition." She said as bitterness crept into her tone.
"You don't know that, you've never even tried!" He challenged
He let out a frustrated growl. "I wish you could see how amazing you are." He said before he could stop himself
Her head snapped towards him.
"What did you say?"
His eyes met hers. "I wish you could see how amazing you are." He repeated, his tone even and sure, as if he knew what he was saying to be fact.
Eliza had always been very outspoken about zombie rights and equality, and on the surface, she appeared to be very confident about herself and who she was.
But deep down, that wasn't always the case and it was why she had always kept to herself and kept others at arms length ... With the exception of Zed and Bonzo, but that was only because their parents were longtime friends. They had grown up together, and Zed and Bonzo were more like brothers than just friends.
"I'm sorry it's just ... When you've been discriminated against and hated your whole life, it's just ... Hard, you know?" She said
Wyatt took her hands in his. "Trust me, I totally get it, but that never stopped us from being proud of who and what we are." He said
"Yeah, you guys are an inspiration." She said
A grin crossed her face.
"You know what? Tryouts for the regional video game championships are coming up ... I'm going to go and try out!" She suddenly declared.
Wyatt let out an excited bark.
"Yeah! That's my girl!" He said as he embraced her
"And I'll be right there, cheering you on." He said, pulling back slightly to look at her.
She merely smiled at him as she combed her hand through his hair, he sighed contentedly and leaned into her touch. Wyatt had many mannerisms and qualities that were very ... Dog like, and Eliza couldn't help but find them endearing.
Perhaps it was because that even though zombies had not been allowed to have pets when she was growing up, she had always been a dog person. Much like Zed's sister Zoey, she had tons of dog books and stuffed toys.
"I LOVE it when you do that." He said, this voice becoming gruff.
Her hand stilled
"What?" She asked, genuinely curious.
He grinned bashfully at her as a blush crept across his cheeks
"When you pet me."
"Oh, you mean like this?" Eliza said in a casual tone as she reached up with both hands and began combing them through his hair in a slow repetitive motion.
Wyatt made a noise in his throat that was something between a growl and a moan as he leaned in and kissed her.
The sweet kiss quickly became passionate as they wrapped their arms around each other until lack of air finally forced Wyatt to break off the kiss, they remained close, their foreheads pressed against one another.
"Don't stay in your room tonight ... Stay with me." Eliza said, slightly out of breath despite her lowered requirement for air.
Wyatt's eyebrows shot into his hairline as his eyes became as big as saucers. Had he heard correctly?
"Um ... Like ... What? I mean ...really? Are you sure?"
She took his face in her hands.
"I've never been more sure if anything in my life." She deadpanned
He let out an aroused growl and his eyes began to glow. He quickly stood, scooped her up off the couch into his arms and carried her to the bedroom.
