#025: Pikachu

Because of their looks and playful personalities, Pikachu are very popular pets. But appearances can be deceiving - pokemon breeders are quick to point out to potential owners of the more frivolous sort that they pack all the electrical power of the less huggable Magnemite. Though they can make for very rewarding companions, inattentive owners would be better off sticking to the normal types. Pikachu are easily startled and for them, zapping is as natural as eating (indeed Pikachu usually do both in short succession, cooking their food with charring shocks).

Despite this pokemon's small size, not only its electricity but also its voice is surprisingly powerful. In the wild, Pikachu live in sizeable colonies (the collective noun is a 'mischief') and their warning cries bring forth the collective might of the group to repel much more powerful threats. In league battles, Pikachu are popular with audience members as their shout becomes a defiant battlecry: "Pika-chuuuu!"
