Chapter 42
Without a warning, Kenny shot out his cables on the nearby trees and immediately flew. The chaos from earlier had scared all the horses away. All he can do now was fly away, shake these guys off, and call out for his horse. Kenny can't go back to the city as soon as possible without the horse. He can't maneuver back as well since the gas is limited. The place they were in was too far from civilization.
"Ah!" The spectators yelled out.
See? The guy is trying to escape now! the others exclaimed in their minds. They shouldn't have let the man talk too much and just captured him right away…
Their thoughts trailed off as they watch Law send out his cables fast to disrupt the enemy's maneuvering. Kenny fell and cursed. The two's cables tangled so neither can fly.
Luffy immediately ran towards the old man and struck his fist which he barely dodged. Kenny, who was an experienced fighter, felt the wind from the fist and realized this boy's punches were as dangerous as his dagger.
Luffy made a follow-up punch which Kenny dodged by jumping away as far as he could from the boy. Kenny unhesitatingly cut off his tangled cables. Any form of hindrance was totally unfavorable to the man in face of the youngster before him…
During these two exchanges, Levi had caught up to them, making Kenny's predicament turn into a disaster.
"Haist. Which god did I anger today that I am facing all of you, munchkin-sized monsters?" Kenny said with a displeased tone.
Law had thought of joining them but he decided to stay back. There was no need for him to give assistance to Levi anymore since Luffy was free. So instead, he laughed at Kenny's words and said, "Just be glad I'm not joining the party."
Kenny clicked his tongue as fired his gun to Luffy and Levi who were approaching him. The said two could dodge the bullets. He wasn't surprised Levi was able to do so considering his bloodline, but the younger runt was a different story.
"Are you an Ackerman?" Kenny found himself asking. Aside from the black hair that the boy possessed, he didn't seem like one at all. But the strength of the boy… He dodged another onslaught from the two runts.
"Nope?" Luffy tilted his head a bit.
"You still can afford to be distracted, Kenny?" Levi said. "I guess we're not giving you enough trouble? Should we fight harder then so can't speak nonsense anymore?"
"Give me a break," Kenny growled. What fight harder? You telling him that they weren't fighting with their all just now?
"You can have that break once you surrender to us," Levi said.
"Hah."
Both sides didn't want to give in. So they could only fight until someone does. Kenny was bound to lose. What he was doing was just some unnecessary and desperate struggling. With this in mind, Law directed his attention to somewhere else.
"We need to tie them up," he said, referring to the unfortunate people who got bulldozed by the younger pirate captain's fists. Most of them were unconscious while some are barely awake, trying to keep themselves fainting from the pain.
Ral and the others jumped off the trees they were perched on and did what he said. This was the least they could do in this mission.
"I never thought this mission…" Farlan said, trailing off when he couldn't find the right words to describe what happened. "I mean, you sounded pretty serious before we sent out…" he joked.
"Hm…" Law said. "I guess I was..? You all needed it though. This won't be the last time something like this would happen, considering the enemies we got out the walls. Plus, Luffy and I might not be on the next ones so… you guys need to prepare for it next time."
Farlan silently noted the teen's last sentence. "If we ask Erwin to, we all can still together, you know?" he said slowly, observing Law, who just hummed.
"Can we?" Law said absentmindedly.
"Hue… You guys took all the action again!" Isabel whined. "We didn't get to fight this time!"
"You aren't the only one feeling this don't worry…" Law said. "These MPs must have felt you." Farlan laughed.
"How are they by the way?" Law asked.
"Broken bones here and there," Gunther replied.
"Some have heavy bruises at most," Eld said.
Law nodded at their words. "Get their gears off them as well, and hidden weapons if they have some. We don't want them killing or injuring someone when we travel back to the castle."
It didn't take long before Kenny had been defeated. It could have ended much earlier, but (fortunately, if Law may add) Luffy still remembered that he had to restrain himself. Like his subordinates, Kenny sported bruises and broken bones all thanks to Luffy, and some cuts all thanks to Levi.
"Ahhhh…" Kenny let out a huge sigh. "I blame Reiss for this big loss. If that asshole said about what happened earlier…" He was all tied up along with his men.
"You can only blame yourself for being weak," Law said. "Also, you can continue complaining when we arrive at our HQ. We would love to hear what you want to complain about."
"Heh. I would love to hear how you raised your little monsters, Levi," Kenny said.
"…"
Erwin was in a good mood as he heard the news of Levi and his group coming back from the mission successfully. 'Alas, one headache was gone just like that,' he thought. Now all he had to think about ways to bring those cowards in the top brass down along with Rod Reiss. As much as he wanted to consult Levi's smart boy, he knew he shouldn't do that lest he grew dependent on him or something.
"Everything seems easier right now," Erwin sighed softly, "and unbelievable…"
All throughout the years, they've been through, days were full of dread, tension, and struggle. Erwin only persevered through because he had a dream he wanted to achieve and this dream had been achieved so suddenly in an unexpected manner. Erwin was actually a selfish man under the guise of a nobleman. Saving humanity? Pursuing the truth for humanity? All of these noble causes he had spouted were to cover what he truly wanted. But now the thing he wanted the most was already achieved. All he had right now was responsibility.
It's unfortunate that the two of them are younger, Erwin thought. Maybe if they have been born in the same generation as Levi's or mine then… He couldn't help but ponder.
A knock disrupted his thoughts. Erwin's brows rose, looking all pleased and happy. He can guess who was outside his door. He covered up his smile with a cough before he told the person to enter.
Law's displeased face entered his sight and suddenly Erwin had a hard time trying to keep his lips from turning up. Of course, Law's sharp eyesight could catch on this little detail, causing the teen glare at the older man, knowing why he was so happy.
"I'm here to report, eyebrows-ya," Law said, adding the nickname out of spite.
"Hmmm," Erwin didn't mind it the least. "Where's Levi?"
"With the prisoners," Law said. "He was an acquaintance of the squad leader leading the MPs today so he went and interrogated him personally."
"Oh?"
"Anyways, we got the entire MP squad who were targeting us- they call themselves anti-personnel squad? I forgot. They're trained to kill people…" Law said. "And as expected, they were after Jaeger-ya and Reiss-ya. As for further information, as I said, Levi is interrogating them so he'll inform you about them. We didn't have casualties today so reassured. Though, the captured people we got might need medical help. Luffy-ya went kind of overboard with them."
Erwin's brows jumped a bit at the mention of Luffy. "How overboard is overboard?"
"Broken bones and heavy bruises here and there," Law said.
"… I'll tell someone to buy medicine," Erwin said. "You know albeit of medicine don't you, Law? Do you mind treating them a bit? We can't afford inviting doctors…"
Law sighed. "Alright. I'll do it."
"Thank you. You guys have worked hard today."
Law let out short laugh hearing that. It was like he had heard a joke which made Erwin puzzled. "Not really," the teen said. "I'll be going now then."
And with that, he was out before the commander could say something else. Probably didn't want to lead to another mission again-
I suck at writing fight scenes. (; ̄д ̄)
