Series 2, Episode 38 ~ House of Stings
The webs were even more daunting as the 5 Sibuna's looked at the large room. Maybe it was because they all knew the danger of the strings that were stretched out around the room. Maybe it was because for the Rutter twins and Alfie their minds where fully on the task at hand but on the blind girl they had left in the secret office of Roberts. Doing this with Patricia in the state she was in felt completely wrong.
"Okay, so remember," Nina said calmly, "nice and slow. There is no need to rush."
"And don't step on the threads," Amber added as she looked around the room in fear. "Any of them." The plan was the girls were going to guide the boys, Patricia was going to guide Camilla. Alfie and Fabian where the best web walkers and Camilla and volunteered to be the third body. Fabian not being happy about it but knowing Camilla had taken the idea of having to Protect them all to heart.
"We've got this," Fabian said confidently, before he glanced to Nina who looked worried, "don't worry, we've aced this in practice. We'll be fine."
Fabian and Alfie stepped forward to begin the challenge.
Unknown to all of them Patricia had heard someone entering the office room. There was only one person who could be entering the room. Victor.
So, gathering her strength the girl decided to venture into the tunnels to warn her friends about the danger of the man coming.
Venturing through the tunnels being able to see was scary enough, but going through blind was another thing. Resorting to using the walls for guidance and having to go on her hands and knees as she crossed the chasm Patricia slowly made her way towards her friends.
"Patricia?" Camilla's voice was a blessing as she slowly crept down the stairs towards where she knew the spider web challenge was. Footsteps were heard coming closer to her and Patricia couldn't help but thank Amber for forcing Camilla into the heels – even if it meant the girl had to take them off to perform the task.
Camilla grabbed onto Patricia the moment the girl got to the bottom of the steps and helped to guide her to the rest of the Sibuna's. worry clear in all their faces. Why did Patricia rush to them, what was the danger? Camilla silently praying that she hadn't got too start her web walk before she heard Patricia's footsteps. Alfie and Fabian, however, were halfway through the maze of webs. Both boys where stood frozen still, as the listened in to the conversation the girls where having.
"There's someone in the tunnel!" Patricia told them all, gripping onto Camilla's arm. "we have to hide!"
"Who's in the tunnel?" Amber asked scared.
"She can't see remember?" Nina said to Amber before turning to Camilla. "Can you do something?"
"I can cloak like three of us but you need to be right next to me!" Camilla told the American frantically.
"There's nowhere to hide!" Amber said looking around.
"The tunnel?" Camilla offered.
"That won't fit all 6 of us," Nina grumbled.
"Then we'll half it." Fabian spoke calmly though there was tension in his voice, "you three can hide in the tunnel, me and Alfie with Camilla."
"Okay guys," Nina said quickly in agreement to the boy's plan, grabbing Patricia's other arm, "forget the whole thing I said about going slowly, just get back here!"
Camilla turned to Nina, "I'll guide Fabian, you take Patricia and make sure she is safe." Nina smiled at her and lead Patricia off and up the stairs slowly whilst Camilla turned to start shouting words towards Fabian.
When the two boys where strings away from reaching Camilla and Amber at the entrance to the room Alfie called to Amber, "Go hide! We'll be fine." Amber looked torn but saw Camilla and Fabian nod their heads. She trusted the twins with Alfie and with one glance at Alfie she turned and rushed back up the corridor to where Nina and Patricia were hiding. The two boy's making it to Camilla's side by the entrance just in time to hear the grate shut.
Camilla pulled both boys to the side of the opening to the web room, grabbing their hands and starting to mutter, "abissum incomprehensibilem, abissum incomprehensibilem, abissum incomprehensibilem," one by one they shimmered out of sight.
Just in time too as Victor rounded the corner walking down the stone steps towards the web room. The man's movements where slow and precise as if he was expecting a booby trap at any moment, but the spell seemed to work as his eyes glazed right over the space the three where stood. All of them too scared to even breath in case the man would find them.
"Now what have we here?" Victor spoke in a curious tone as he approached the webbed room. "More fun and games, eh, Robert?" he asked as he reached out to touch a silver threat causing him to let out a scream of pain. Camilla wanting nothing more to run over to see if he was okay but knowing she couldn't so watch on in worry as her Guardian doubled over in pain before backing up. Clearly the silver threats were even more deadly than the yellow one Alfie grabbed. Gods only knew what the red threats had coated on them. Victor looked around the room once again before looking down at his hand, a drop of blood hitting the floor. The man turned around he had to clean his wound; he could always come back down again.
The moment he was out of sight Camilla mumbled, "ut Videatur," and with almost a bubble pop sound the three invisible Sibuna's became visible again. The three of them looking to one another in worry before stealthily creeping back up the stairs. Camilla pausing to look down at Victor's blood on the floor the worry on her face clearly there, before she raced after her brother and best friend.
Nina pushed open the small tunnel vent and she, Patricia and Amber crawled out just as the three Sibuna's rounded steps from the tunnel below. "Are you okay?" she whispered unsure if Victor was still in the tunnels.
"Of course, we are," Alfie said confidently, the three silently agreeing not to mention the blood the string caused, not wanting to worry any of them, "When there is a witch there is away." He added pointing to Camilla with a cheeky grin knowing the use of the word ''witch'' would get under her skin. She had spent all term correcting him; she was a Protector of Isis a future Mage, not a witch.
"I'm not a bloody witch," Camilla said, hitting him teasingly. That was enough to cause them all to let out small chuckles, letting the tension they all had held in their bodies wash away with the laughter.
"Who was that?" Nina whispered, missing the looks between Alfie, Fabian and Camilla.
"Eh, I don't know," Patricia sassed her, "I can't see remember,"
"This is really bad," Alfie stressed. "badder than bad!"
"Let's just get you out of here," Nina mumbled to Patricia, turning the girl around to try to find a way to get her across the beam safely. Any web walking was done for the night.
Nina and Camilla put Patricia back in her room before they snuck back into their room. Alfie had an arm around Amber and the two were whispering to one another. Fabian and pulled on a hoodie of his he'd found in Camilla's wardrobe and was lying on her bed playing with her teddy, laughing as the head wobbled dangerously. For Camilla being an all-powerful magic user, she was still his sister and trusted her money and personal trinkets in the body of her teddy (Trinket) overusing any spells what so ever. It was one of the things that he loved about his sister and wished would never change.
They all looked up as Nina and Camilla entered the room. "How is Patricia?" Amber asked.
"She's okay, just resting," Nina told them all as Camilla moved over to sit on the end of her bed, Fabian sitting up and handing her Trinket knowing she was worried about her friend. "So, what's going on?" Nina asked looking around at the team.
"Well..." Fabian spoke up with a sigh from where he and Camilla sat, "we need to find three things to hang on the hooks -"
"-and some sort of large spider to put in the hole." Camilla finished for him. Feeling her brother's chin on her shoulder as he let out a sigh.
"Come on Sarah... or Isis," Amber added looking to Camilla in hopes her Deity would maybe help, (Alfie and Nina looking to each other in confusion) "throw us a bone here."
"I'm more worried about who chased Patricia down the tunnels," Nina said. Camilla rolled her eyes but her grip on the teddy told Fabian the girl was worried about Victor. He saw the look on her face when she glanced down at his blood on the floor. "Are you sure you didn't see anything?"
"Nope, it was a loophole of the spell to keep us hidden," Camilla told the girl forcefully the boys nodding their heads.
"All I heard was footsteps." Nina sighed.
"Someone with feet... that narrows it down." Amber sassily spoke causing Camilla and Alfie to let out laughs.
"It must have been Victor!" Nina insisted, "right?"
"Victor is not the bad guy!" Camilla countered, "he might have other intentions, but he isn't the bad guy here." This like always was ignored by all the Sibuna's bar Fabian who grabbed his sisters' hand and gave it a squeeze. He knew the man was important to her, even if he didn't understand it.
"This is all crazy..." Amber muttered quietly.
"Now, What level of crazy is too much for you? I'm just curious, just so I can plan ahead and all..." Alfie said to her causing a smile to creep onto her face, and from the smile that appeared on his that was the reaction he had been hoping for,
Before anyone could say anything, they heard someone approach the door to the room. Fabian shot them all a confused look as he and Camilla got to their feet. Fabian swung open the door, Camilla ready to punch someone, but it was just Jerome who stood on the other side jumping at the defensive nature of the twins.
"Ah! Camilla! Fabian!" he yelled in shock, "you scared the life out of me." He hissed at them.
"Clearly we didn't or you'd be on the floor motionless not screaming at us," Camilla countered getting a dirty look from Jerome causing her to smile.
"Hey, buddy what's up?" Alfie spoke up from inside the room, causing Jerome to glance behind Camilla to see Alfie with his arm around Amber, the girls head on his shoulder the two sat next to Nina on Amber's bed.
"What are you doing out here?" Camilla asked Jerome in confusion.
Jerome's eyes widened at the question, "just... waiting," he started looking Camilla in the eye, "to use the girl's bathroom." Camilla's 'Jerome is lying' alarm bells starting to ring in her mind and her eyes narrowed. Jerome gulped as he knew Camilla could see right through his lie.
"Rather than the boys one downstairs?" Fabian asked confused.
"I am so bored of that one, aren't you?" he said looking from Fabian to Alfie, who was nodding his head in understanding at Jerome's words, "I just fancied a change of scenery."
"I get that," Alfie told him causing all the Sibuna's to look at him in confusion. Jerome moving off as they did, causing Fabian to shut the door to the room looking even more perplexed than before.
"Suspicious much?" Amber said instantly.
"Jerome's middle name is suspicious," Camilla rolled her eyes.
"You don't think it could have been Jerome down, there do you?" Fabian asked them all quietly.
"I'm not sure," Nina said, ignoring the shaking heads of Alfie and Camilla. If Jerome had an amulet they'd have known by now. That boy was good at secret-keeping only after he had gloated to his best friends. "But I am sure, that he is hiding something."
