Chapter 56:
During the next few days the Juvenile Officers continued looking for the cadets responsible for their harassment. They started trying to find who was behind it by watching all the cadets for strange behaviour then they started interrogating some cadets but no one spoke of Shay and his group.
Each time Shay or his group targeted any Juvenile Officers the person or people behind the attack always stayed in the shadows or they found some way to not be seen or identified. The Juvenile Officers did, for some reason, suspect Shay was somehow behind their harassment however without anyone saying it was him and without catching him doing anything they could not prove it was him.
"Leo," Roget addressed as he and Aster Phoenix, head of the Juvenile Officers, entered the Professor's office.
"I hear there has been some problems," Leo Akaba calmly stated.
"Yes," Aster admitted. "The Juvenile Officers, myself included find ourselves being harassed by at least one but most likely a group of cadets. We think Cadet Obsidian is behind it. If he is then his friends could be responsible too. Or what's left of them."
"Why do you believe this?" the Professor questioned.
"Shay and his friends, Shay specifically, dislike the academy. They've not hidden this fact. They constantly hangout in their rooms or in small areas like corners of rooms alone and away from the other cadets, they remain defiant towards the academy and they have also been caught in the act of lying," Aster explained.
"Continue."
"After Yuri, Kite and Sora's escape attempt is when they really started distancing themselves especially Shay. I think they're up to something. Yesterday me and a few other Juvenile Officers were having a discussion about everyday things. Kit Blade suddenly comments how much he hates overseeing kitchen duty. I ask him what was wrong. He tells me if it wasn't cadets not listening and doing what their told it was cadets complaining of illness and or injury."
"Okay," the Professor spoke indicating he was listening.
"I asked him to elaborate and he tells me a story of when he was last overseeing kitchen duty," Aster said.
"Continue," Leo encouraged.
"The two cadets on Kitchen duty were Shawn Brass and Devon Bryn. Barrett put them on a week of kitchen duty after they got into a fight. Their first day in the kitchen one of the other cadets, Yuya Sakaki suddenly started to feel sick. One of the punished cadets, cadet Bryn, approached Yuya and Shay Obsidian who was with Yuya at the time. Devon had at least one arm wrapped around Yuya before Shay pulled him to his feet and supported him to the door."
"What does this have to do with suspecting Shay and his friends are your harassers?" Leo asked.
"I'm getting there sir. After Kit told me this, one of the Juvenile Officers I had been talking to suddenly exclaimed Yuya hadn't been sick at all. According to Iggy Arlo, after Shay and Yuya left the dining hall and walked a little ways away Yuya suddenly straightened up like he hadn't even been sick a moment ago."
"Iggy and Kit are both sure about all of this?" asked Roget.
"They are. Iggy watched Shay and Yuya from the moment they exited the dining hall. And saw Shay go from supporting a sick Yuya to Yuya suddenly recovering and running up the stairs to the boys dorms," Aster reported.
"Something is up," Akaba thought.
"Something else sir. Iggy reported seeing a small piece of folded up paper in Yuya's hand. In the dining hall Kit thought he'd seen something switch from Devon's hand to Yuya's but couldn't be sure. He didn't question it at first until Iggy had revealed Yuya's little act. He said that when Yuya had passed by the Juvenile Officers table he was not holding anything. It was assumed the other cadet had possibly written out instructions for making Yuya feel better, but said cadet didn't exit the kitchen with any paper and Kit didn't see him write anything down when he was with the other two cadets," Aster finished.
"Keep an eye on Shay and his friends and the other mentioned cadet too. Find out how many times they retreat to their rooms and which rooms they retreat to and what times. Also keep an eye on who they talk to," Leo ordered.
Outside the Professor's office door a figure stood. Kaz Cline. He leaned against the door with his eyes closed listening to the conversation. He had been on his way to breakfast when he saw the instructor and the Juvenile Officer enter the room and became curious. This was something Shay and the others needed to know about this but he would have to wait till the scheduled meeting later. That way no one working in this place would become even more suspicious of them.
"This might not be good," Kaz muttered to himself as he straightened up to walk away from the office door and. "Maybe I won't wait. Maybe I should inform Shay now. No I can't risk getting us caught. I have to wait. Head Officer Phoenix is already suspicious enough. He's already suspecting Shay."
Moving to hastily would get Shay caught and in sever trouble. Kaz couldn't chance Shay getting in trouble. He was the strength of the group. The leader. If he got caught and got in trouble the group could fall apart and everything they did to help free the other cadets would be for nothing. Plus this place wouldn't get shut down. No Kaz had to wait to move. For the group's sake and for the sake of their plan.
As he made his decision and started on his way to breakfast something caught his attention from inside the office. He stuck around for a little longer.
"Professor before I go I think it'd be best to inform you Cadet Celina Ray has unfortunately been found dead in her solitary confinement cell," Aster mentioned as he stood from his chair and moved towards the door.
"How did she die?" Leo asked.
"It appears starvation sir. During the escape attempt and dealing with Cadet Tenjo as well as the harassment we're going through she was forgotten about," Aster informed.
"She ran away from the academy one night without us knowing. We've been trying to locate her quietly and did not inform the state as we didn't think it was a big deal but we can't seem to locate her," The professor thought up.
"What about the body?" Roget wondered.
"Throw it out into the wilderness somewhere to make our story more convincing if someone finds the body we'll say she never stood a chance out there and should have stayed at the academy. We'll look distraught and support her family," Leo decided.
"Why did she run away in the first place?" Roget questioned.
"We'll say…" the professor started until Aster interrupted.
"We'll say she was having problems. She was here because she wouldn't listen to her parents right?
Well she wouldn't listen to us. She seemed to be having some sort of mental issues that we were never told of seeing as how the sent her here without a psycho eval right. She had mental problems, she ran away, we couldn't find her, she died."
"Aster you're a genius," Leo praised. "Roget you know what to do."
"Understood."
Outside the office Kaz was slowly walking away. He couldn't wait to meet with Shay later to tell him about what the academy was up to. He couldn't wait to warn Shay the academy was getting suspicious of him. Kaz smirked at the thought of them succeeding and taking the academy down.
Okay so Celina has died and the Academy is planning to cover it up. Not cool. Bad academy. What will happen next? Will Kite be okay? Where's Sora's body? What will Shay think at his group's meeting later when Kaz informs him of what's going on? Keep reading to find out.
