Kaede
When Cherry Blossom season came, we took the train to Tokyo and spent a day just hanging out at Chidorigafuchi. We haven't been to hanabi by ourselves, it was nice to have her all to myself at such a beautiful time of the year. We found our spot under a tree by the river, which had turned pink from all the petals that fell on it.
We spent the morning in Shakespeare (she said she wanted to listen to me read Twelfth Night...in English - an odd request but she seemed to genuinely want me to) and the afternoon in song. I laid on her lap while she sang wistful melodies, brushing my hair as she did. I reveled in her touch, even after a few weeks I still marveled at the miracle of being able to call her "mine". I thought to myself, this must be what contentment is.
"There is truth in what Shakespeare said," I blurted out upon realization and she stopped singing, "What is?" I looked up and reached out to stroke her cheek, "Love sought, is good; but given unsought, is better…you and I, we didn't seek it. It came to us via happenchance. You came into my life like a tsunami and unknowingly showered me with everything beautiful. Love...you have made me very happy."
Her cheeks turned pink then glancing around once, she bent over to kiss me. The softest, sweetest taste I'll ever know.
