I try to make the most of my Sunday, seeings as how it is the only real day I have off. Carr had us rushing to get all the information we could out of our Brudos interview, before we had to go back on Monday. I get to the airport bright and early, rubbing my eyes, "morning boys."

Tench smiles at me, placing an open hand on my shoulder, "not enough sleep?"

"Never." I shake my head and chuckle.

"Well, there will be plenty of time to sleep on the plane." Tench sits down beside me.

Ford comes up to us, all too happy for the early hour, "I have a plan."

I shake my head, "tell me about it when we land in Oregon, or I will write it off as a dream."

"You can't be that tired."

I look up to Ford, "if I had the energy I'd slap you."

"Maybe you can be that tired."

Tench chuckles, "best to stay on her good side. At least while she's tired."

"I don't wanna be on her bad side when she's not, I thought while she was tired it'd be safe."

"Rookie mistake. While a woman is tried it's even more dangerous."

I sigh, "Will you two please shut up?"

We board our plane and fly the seven hours to Oregon, I sleep most of the way there. When I wake up Ford smiles over to me, "Feelings better."

"Much." I nod.

"Good, don't want you to be all kinds of moody when we interview Brudos again."

"I'm sure he'd love it." I shake my head, "and if you describe me as moody again I will kick your ass."

"My apologies." Ford puts his hands up as he smirks at me.

We head back to the Oregon State Pen, "What is that?" I look down at a box Ford has.

"A bargaining chip." Ford smirks.

As we head inside the guard who gave me issues before smirks as I walk in, "do you know how many times I've been asked when that pretty FBI lady would be back."

I chuckle, "that depends, are we counting the times you asked yourself that?"

The guard acts hurt and holds his chest, "your words cut deep."

I shake my head and walk over to the table Tench and Ford are at, Tench shakes his head and chuckles, "stop flirting. What are you trying to make Holden jealous?"

Holden turns to Tench, as if he hadn't been listening, "what, I'm not jealous."

I shake my head and chuckle as we hear Brudos laughing as he comes down the stairs to the large cage. "Hello, ladies and lady. Back for more?" He smiles as he walks over to the table he sat at last time.

"Tell us where to sit." Ford crosses his hands in front of himself. Tony, Brudos' guard, begins to cuff him to the table but Ford stops him, "that won't be necessary this time."

"Great," Brudos chuckles, "want to arm wrestle?"

"How about a smoke?" Ford walks over to the table Brudo is at.

"Well, well, well." Brudos smirks, getting a cigarette out of the pack Ford had handed him, "I want her to light me." he points over to me. " I have to say, doll face, I was hoping to see you in a skirt. I didn't think you'd wear pants again."

I sigh, getting up and walking over to Brudo, noticing a scar on his arm, "how'd you get that scar?"

"Darcie…" Brudos takes a drag off the cigarette. "Found out I was chasing skirts at OSU. Came after me with a Ginsu."

"No, Really." I chuckle, "how'd you get it?"

"God's truth." Brudos shakes his head, "she loved horror films."

"We'd appreciate honesty," I smirk down to Brudos.

"About my scar?"

I shake my head and walk away from Brudos, but Ford stays close to him, "we know that you've been jumped in here a few times."

"If you got all the answers, what do you need from me?"

"We want details." I sit across from Tench. "We want to know why."

"Why what?"

"Let's start with the women's clothes." I shrug my shoulders.

"Could you be more specific."

I look at the file, "Your wife said you approached her dressed as a woman."

"Hmm…" Brudos nods, "she said… whatever the police wanted her to say."

"But you did approach her dressed as a woman."

"You aren't married are you?"

"No." I shake my head.

"Shame…" Brudos looks over to Tench, "Are you."

Tench nods, "yes."

"What's your wife's name?"

"None of your business."

"I appreciate honesty." Brudos smirks.

"Nancy."

"Nancy?" Brudos chuckles, "that's a fun coincidence. How does Nancy deal with things that she doesn't understand?"

"I don't follow." Tench shakes his head.

"Let's just say, my wife… was less than adventurous."

"You were young when you got married." Ford leans against the table Tench and I are at.

"Twenty-two. She was seventeen."

"What was it about her?"

"She popped my cherry."

Ford laughs, "that seems old-fashioned."

"You married the first girl you had sex with?" I chuckle.

Brudos shrugs, "it wasn't that unusual in 1961."

"But you already had 'interest' by then, didn't you?" I shrug, getting up and walking over in front of Brudos, "stealing lingerie off of clotheslines. You photographed a neighborhood girl nake when you were fifteen."

"What happened to the shy and reserved Nancy from our last interview?" Brudos looks up to me, "Not that I don't enjoy the change, but loosen up."

I shake my head, "i don't like being lied to or played."

"Just a healthy, red-blooded American male."

"What about the shoes?" Ford steps up beside me.

"What shoes?"

"In your garage." Ford shrugs, "The women's shoes."

"Ah…" Brudos nods, "the wife loved to shop."

"There were nearly a hundred pairs. Most of them size sixteen."

"Ah, those. Friends sent those to me."

"Friends?" I chuckle.

"That's right."

"What would friends send you shoes?"

"Started off as a good, got out of hand."

"Interesting."

Brudos looks at the box, Ford had placed on the table beisde Tench, "What's that?"

"Hmm?" Ford turns, "oh, a reward for honesty."

I shake my head, "come on. Your friends didn't send you those shoes."

"What can I say?" Brudos shrugs, "I'm a collector."

"Do you wear them?"

"I don't have to."

"Don't have to, to what?" Tench tilts his head.

"You know." Brudos shrugs, "get off." he gestures over to Tench, "he's adorable."

"I thought wearing them was part of the allure?"

"Why's he so interested?" Brudos looks over to me.

"I'm really just asking for Darcie. She still doesn't get it. We caught up on the phone."

"Right."

"Night woman."

"My wife… wouldn't talk about me."

"Ex-wife."

"She had to divorce me to protect the kids."

"And change her last name?"

"I'm sure it makes it easier for them in school."

"What would they tell their friends? Not just about the murders. How do you explain the cross-dressing? 'Dad's a tranny? Dad's a fag?'"

"Fuck you, man."

"How does it fucking work with the shoes."

Brudos looks up to Ford, "he is dying to know.'

"I'll pass it along to Darcie. Ten years later, she's still confused."

"Give her my love."

"I'll do that… Jer."

"Tony! Hey! Get in here!" Brudos looks around.

"What are you doing?" Ford steps forward.

"Go fuck yourselves."

"Come on." Tench shrugs, "They're just questions."

"I've had enough. I'm done." Brudos shakes his head and walks over to the gate.

"Wait a minute." Ford tries to stop him.

"I'm done."

I sigh and look over to Tench, "Tell him."

Tench sighs and shakes his head, "we didn't talk to your stupdi wife. She hung up on us."

"And you're forgetting something." Ford picks up the box.

Brudos turns around and slowly walks over to Ford. "ah…" He takes the box. "Brand new."

Ford nods, "they're the biggest size they had."

"You should have brought me a pair of Nancy's shoes." Brudos looks from me to Tench, "either Nancy."

Tench snarls, "Fuck you."

"Fuck you."

"So when did it start, your interest in women's shoes?" Ford looks up to Brudos.

"It didn't start." Brudos shakes his head, walking over to the table he had been at before, taking a shoe out and looking it over, "it was always there."

"There must have been a moment during puberty when it became... Sexual."

"I got my first pair of heels at five."

"Five?" I tilt my head.

Brudos nods, "Stilettos. Found them in the junkyard, brought 'em home."

"Why?"

"Never seen anything like 'em before, except in pictures."

"Didn't your mom wear heels?"

"Never." Brudos shakes his head.

"What'd she think when you brought them home?" Ford tilts his head. Brudos doesn't say anything. Ford takes a deep breath, "One time, my mom walked in on me jacking off. Came into my bedroom." Brudos chuckles as my eyes widen and I look over to Tench. "I hadn't locked the door."

"Really?" Tench sighs, not so much asking if the story is true, but if he really has to tell it now.

"Yeah."

"What'd she do?" Brudos tilts his head.

"I'd never seen her so shocked. It's like I was doing something too horrible to even imagine. She thought I needed help."

"She offered to help?"

"Psychological help."

Brudos laughs. "My mom burned the shoes."

"The stilettos?"

"Dragged me into the backyard, poured kerosene all over 'em, lit 'em up."

"That must have been memorable."

"She always said she wanted a girl."

"She wanted you to be a girl?"

"She had my brother, that's what she wanted next."

"She told you this?"

"All the time."

"Why was she so upset when you brought home the shoes?"

"I was wearing 'em around the house."

"Were you trying to be what she wanted you to be?"

"What?"

"Were you trying to be a girl?"

"Fuck no, I never wanted to be a girl." Brudos shakes his head, "I liked the shoes. I don't know why she was so angry. I took a pair of my teacher's shoes, and she didn't loes her fucking mind."

"Your teacher's shoes?"

"Mrs. Kernegan. First grade. She'd kick her shoes off under the desk."

"Heels?"

"Low, but stylish." Brudos nods. "She checked our book bags. When she found them on me, I thought she'd go berserk, but… she was just curious."

"About what?"

"Why did I taken them. Women always want to know, don't they? At least they think they do"

"Did Darcie want to know?"

"It's tricky when you're married. You either have to deny yourself or… keep a private space."
