Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter

Professor Lupin looked awfully remorseful as Severus entered the room, the man had papers scattered about the room, and he cradled a mug of what smelled to be hot cocoa.

"You'll get sick drinking that." Severus grumbled, this caused the guilty looking professor to jump slightly, causing rich cocoa to splash out of the mug. Remus cursed lightly then fixed his desk, he gestured Severus to sit across from him and sighed in frustration.

"Albus said that I should speak to you regarding your apprentice Severus and I do deeply apologize for the display that occurred in class yesterday. I did not expect such a reaction from any of my students like that, most of them are afraid of small creatures at this age, and not of possessed fire." Remus explained.

"We live in a different world Remus, you of all people should understand this. It is not unusual for our students to have fears that are well beyond small creatures." Severus rolled his eyes. "Not every child has the privilege to grow and only be scared of spiders and things that go bump in the night."

"Yes, I understand this Severus, but I think Miss Granger would benefit from a little extra attention to her mental state. I have heard of her track record at this school and thus far it has been very bleak. The girl needs to be protected." Remus claimed and before Severus could respond Remus pulled a piece of parchment from his desk and slid it over to Severus. On the parchment was a drawing of the fire that the boggart had transformed into, the black flames engulfed the paper, and in the flames were waves of skulls and demons.

"This is abnormal for a child her age; her mind is in a very dark state Severus and she needs help." Remus pleaded. "She has an awesome ability not seen at this school in years, she is terrified of it, and she's terrified of herself."

"You don't think I know this?" Severus said, he grabbed the drawing in his fist and crumpled it into a ball. Seeing the picture only reminded him about how he was utterly failing the girl each day, of all people course he knew that she needed help, he could feel it. Her mind and soul were devastatingly crumpled for a girl her age, her powers were growing, and perhaps he was denying how dark the girl's magic was in nature. "I have got my apprentice under control." Severus hissed.

"Please don't take this as an offense Severus, I just feel like she needs an outlet, and perhaps extra guidance to understand her powers." Remus observed. "Her powers are brilliant, but her fear for them handicap her greatly, if she encountered a boggart outside of class the girl could have been killed. If we encourage her to use the powers that she has been gifted, maybe she will be able to harness them better, and learn how to appreciate them. She could even be the greatest witch ever produced from this school!" Remus explained excitedly.

"I understand your concern for my apprentice Remus." Severus sighed. "But she is under my care and I will choose how to go about instructing her."

"Maybe I could help-"Remus started, but shut his mouth at the look on Severus' face.

"If you think that you will have any involvement with my student, you are terribly wrong Remus." Severus growled. "If you even think of trying to interfere you will regret it."

"That kind of talk is unneeded Severus; I'm just trying to think of what is best for the girl." Remus absentmindedly adjusted some things on his desk. "Besides, I've already spoken with Albus on this matter, and he agrees with me."

"What?" Severus felt his face burn red with anger. "She's my apprentice Remus."

"Yes, for potions, but she will be mine for defense against the dark arts. Albus has given me permission to help the girl control her powers, and in the process, we will assess if she is a danger to herself and others." Remus explained.

"I am working with her and her powers, it is my duty not yours." Severus argued, the professor across from him gave him a smug look in response.

"Not anymore Severus. I just wanted to give you notice before I started training the girl and now that it is given you may leave." Remus sipped at his drink then held Severus' gaze.

"Very well." Severus pulled away from his seat and headed for the door, an irritating feeling of distraught pulled at him, and he refrained from losing his temper as he left Remus' office.

He was slowly losing control over the situation and he had a feeling that he would eventually lose the girl too.
