(Four Months later)
It is a good thing that today's class is only a recap of what we have done throughout the semester.
Naruto yawned and looked up at the floating clouds before flickering her eyes to Haku. It had been four months since Team 10 came back into her life. Four months since Jiraiya began training her on her use of the Kyuubi's chakra and four months since anything really fun happened in this small town. Team 10 trying to not get caught isn't even really fun anymore since they are getting better. She grimaced.
Ino had been making a name for herself by flirting with some of the boys in their class, although Naruto believed that none of the boys really got her attention. Not that she could blame them. The boys of their year were monkeys as Hana would point out to her whenever they swoon over Ino. Shikamaru seemed to be enjoying the chess club if you asked her.
Choji had made a lot of friends with the kids in the cooking club and she guessed it was an improvement. Neither him nor Shikamaru have vocalized their apology to me, but the fact that they talked against Ino whenever she is causing problems for me tells me that they know how to apologize to me. She sighed and looked back to the floating clouds.
"So what are you going to be training Kyoko-chan, Haru-chan and Lambo-kun on today, Naruto-sama?" Haku asked. The blonde blinked and tore her eyes away from the floating clouds and focused her attention on Haku. Brown eyes gleamed with curiosity of their plans for the day and the blonde hummed.
There is still a lot of work that needs to be done and information for me to gather. Naruto stretched her arms and placed her hands behind her head. Haru showed promise in stealth while Kyoko showed talents in doing seduction with her innocent girl act. Both of them did need some work done on their taijutsu and kunai-throwing skills. Lambo was a whole different story for her.
He shows a lot of promise with taijutsu and his throwing skills. She curled her lips into a tiny smile as her eyes flickered to the colorful tulips decorating the streets. While his punches had a long way to go when it came to power, Naruto couldn't deny the fact that he was fast for a civilian five-year-old. Way faster than Kyoko and Haru at the very least.
His throwing skills were nothing to laugh about either. He only needed to be corrected once. Some people would probably call Lambo a prodigy but Naruto saw him as a hard-working kid with a thirst to prove himself. He might be an annoying brat at times but the boy reminded her of another little kid that she used to know.
"You will be working with Kyoko and Haru with their kunai throwing," Naruto finally answered. Her subordinate did not blink at all at her suggestion, not like she expected him to. The boy never questioned her and between the two of them…this was his area of expertise. She yawned as they turned the corner. "I will be focusing on Lambo's stamina today."
Haku hummed and nodded before looking up at the sky. The whiskered girl slipped her hands through the pockets of her pants and raised a single eyebrow at the sight of Tsuna, Gokudera and Yamamoto walking together. Now it was normal for her to see them walk together. What was not normal for her was the sight of Tsuna slumping his shoulders like someone told him some bad news.
Should I make conversation with them? It would be the right thing for her to do but it implied they were getting close. It implied they were reaching a stage of friendship and Naruto did not know if she wanted to reach that stage. But there was also the fact he handed her money whenever he either wanted advise or get some work done.
"So your Dad is coming back," Yamamoto declared. His voice was so loud that it would not surprise her if even the people from the next town over could hear him. Naruto narrowed her eyes and observed Tsuna even more carefully. In all the time she went over to his house, not once did she ever see his father.
It had been reasonable for her to believe his father worked overtime and never had time for his family. Death had been another possibility, but the fact his mother didn't work and he went to school without a problem made her cancel out the possibility. But for him to come back means that he had been overseas. She pressed her lips into a thin line and darted her eyes to Haku.
His brown eyes gleamed with curiosity and flickered between her and Tsuna. I guess he really wants to know what the big deal is for Tsuna. The fact that Haku looked like a little puppy was not doing her any favors. She sighed. It was not like she had something to lose if she asked her classmate about his issues with his father.
It was not like she even cared about his Daddy issues.
"What is going on here?" Naruto called out. All three males clicked their heels and twisted their whole body around to look at her. Tsuna blinked at the sight of her while Yamamoto flashed her a large smile. Only Gokudera scowled at the sight of her. You would think he would be more polite to me since I always have Haku heal his weak ass. A sigh escaped her lips.
Tsuna looked at her for a good couple of seconds, eyebrows knitted together as if he was deeply considering talking to her about his issues. I don't know shit about Dads but I can milk him out of his money. She clasped her hands behind her neck and eyed the brown-haired boy. Families were not her specialty. If it was then she would have been able to get Neji to stop bullying Hinata.
"I just learnt that my Dad is coming back home after two years," Tsuna answered. His brown eyes gleamed with so much resentment that it made the blonde blink. I'm guessing they have a terrible relationship. She rubbed the back of her neck. "My Mum told me that he disappeared but it turns out that he is alive and well."
Shouldn't you be happy that your Dad is alive? The words were on the tip of her tongue but Naruto swallowed it down. That kind of question sounded personal. It almost sounded like she gave a damn about his family issues and she did not. Besides not all families were good. Not every family was perfect.
She took a deep breath and looked at Haku. The older teen looked so sad at the mention of Dad and Naruto was reminded again that her subordinate was an orphan just like her. Except I don't know what happened to his family or his mentor. It had been a topic she had always been careful not to ask but maybe it was time they talked about it.
"We are going to skip class and hang out somewhere," Yamamoto declared, swinging his arm around Tsuna and Gokudera. His brown eyes locked onto her and Haku as a large, sincere smile played on his lips. "Do you guys wanna join in as well? All of us deserve to have a break once in a while."
Brown eyes pleaded for her and Haku to join in with the fun and Naruto considered the offer for a moment. Haku might be able to forget whatever is clouding his mind but there is also a chance he might push Tsuna. She could not allow the boy to do something like that. Then there was also the fact that she informed Haku and Kyoko that they were going to be training in the morning.
Besides I heard what is bothering Sawada and that is enough for me. Naruto thinned her lips. Going out and having fun with them was taking their relationship to another level. A level that she would not want to push at this current time. With the boy having a cloud of despair over his head, it would not be much fun.
She also had a lot of work that needed to be done.
"We have work that needs to be done," Naruto answered. Yamamoto hummed and accepted her answer with a wide, knowing smile playing on his lips. Just because my tone has less bite, doesn't mean things has changed. The words were just ready to be spilled over but the sad eyes of Tsuna stopped her from saying anything.
This was a terrible time for her to make things about her. I'm not that self-centered. She exhaled and slipped her hands into her pocket as her eyes flickered to Haku. There was that thought and maybe she should find another way to cheer up her subordinate. It would be terrible for her if the boy couldn't focus because of his past.
"Then can we borrow your notes later? We will pay you whatever you want!"
Yamamoto knew how to hold her attention.
"You aren't dodging fast enough, Lambo."
Naruto twirled the kunai around her finger as her eyes focused on the little cut around the boy's cheek. It had been only two hours since they started training. Two whole hours of her pushing the boy to his limits. What was that saying? No pain, no gain? She tossed the kunai and watched as Lambo moved to the left and continued running as fast as his little legs could take him.
I should give him a break. The blonde curled her lips into a thin line as her eyes drank in his trembling legs. At this point, the boy might just vomit the breakfast Nana had given him to eat. The greenish tone on his face suggested it was going to happen soon alongside the fact that his legs trembled with exhaustion. She sighed and looked to Haku.
The boy stood right between Kyoko and Haru, correcting their postures as they threw the kunais. Both girls knitted their eyebrows together, huffing and puffing as they struggled to throw what must have been their fiftieth kunai. I should start counting down the number of kunais. A sigh escaped from her lips and she shook her head.
Ring.
Naruto raised a single eyebrow and pulled her phone out from the pocket of her pants. Sawada. Her raised eyebrow moved closer to her hairline at the mention of his name. Did something happen? He was supposed to be having fun with the others. She curled her lips into a frown and picked up the call.
"You better have a good reason for calling me," Naruto said with a curt tone. He knew she did not like being disturbed when she had work to be done. Her lips curled into a frown and the blond-haired girl made her way to the furthest part of their training area. Several eyes focused on her but the blonde ignored their looks of concern.
He is breathing really quickly and I can also hear machines beeping in the background. She thinned her lips into a very thin line and darted her eyes to Haku. Breathing quickly signaled panic from her experience. Machines beeping signaled that he had to be in a place where there were a lot of machines. Conclusion? He was in a hospital or maybe somewhere else? She could not be certain.
"I-I need Haku to come to Namimori Hospital," Tsuna stuttered. Fear leaked through his tone alongside guilt and Naruto curled her lips into a frown at the request. The request was not unreasonable but the lack of information brought a frown to her lips. "A f-friend of mine got badly injured because of me and I need Haku to heal him."
I don't know this person, do I? Her frown deepened and the whiskered-girl looked down at her nails. If it had been Gokudera or Yamamoto then the boy would have mentioned their names in the end. Naruto narrowed her eyes and tapped her finger against her chin. Something told her that whatever happened to his friend would interest her.
She flickered her eyes to Haku and looked up to the orange and red leaves dangling over her head. Should she just accept because of her interest for the information? Or should she accept but milk money out of him? I could do both. Her lips curled into a smile. Gokudera called her a greedy girl and why should she pretend to be something she was not?
"What happened? Your answer depends on whether or not to send Haku over there," Naruto answered. Haku swirled his head at her and she held her hand up at him. I'm not telling him anything until I know how much Sawada is willing to tell me. She was definitely going to send him over there but there was a need to feel things out.
How much would he tell her? And how much would he try to hide things from her? That was a question she wanted to see answered. Even if he decided not to tell her anything then she would still find out. Nothing escapes from me and I will make sure he knows that. The blonde sighed and darted her eyes to her most loyal subordinate.
"Gokudera, Yamamoto and me were attacked while we got snacks," he explained. Naruto hummed and bobbed her head. That did not sound like a lie to her but it did not feel complete either. She poked her tongue against her cheek and held back a sigh. "I-It is a really complicated situation and I can't explain over the phone."
Naruto exhaled and rubbed the side of her head. Really complicated speaks volumes to me. She curled her lips into a frown and looked out to Haru and Kyoko. Both girls stopped their kunai throwing to look at her. Their eyes flashed with concern. Not for her but for the conversation that she was now having with Tsuna.
She looked up at the dangling leaves again. How much should she make him pay her? ¥25,000? No, it was too low of a price if you asked her. Haku would be wasting his chakra to heal his friend and if Tsuna made up a lie, then it would be too low. Naruto inhaled. It would have to be ridiculously high if you asked her.
"Pay me ¥500,000,"Naruto finally said. Is he going to give up? Or would he accept it without a problem? She pressed her right foot against the tree trunk and locked eyes with Haku. Brown eyes did not widen at the huge offer. He knew her. She darted her eyes to both Haru and Kyoko. Both of them gawked at her.
It is the first time Kyoko heard me doing business and the first time Haru heard a price that high from me. Naruto leaned her back against the tree and waited for the younger boy to argue with her. But nothing came out of his mouth. It was like he was in shock. The blonde shrugged. That did not matter to her. As long as he told her of the information that she wanted then they were good.
"Okay."
That single word spoke volumes to her of how big the situation was in. The lack of protest was also a big red flag of how terrible the situation the boy was in. She exhaled and looked to Haku. The panicking and the machine beeping had been hints but the complete acceptance to her ridiculous price was the final nail to the coffin.
The birds chirped and Naruto ended the call. She slipped her phone back into her pockets and made her way back to Haku. I'm going to have to change all our plans for the day. It was not that bad if she thought about it. There was going to be a lot of money coming out from this. New information was going to come out from this.
"Haku, we are going to the hospital!"
The words rung in the air and Haku curled his lips into a smile. His brown eyes gleamed with amusement as if he knew just how important this job was going to be to them. Maybe he did. It would never surprise her if he pieced up the other parts of her conversation with Tsuna. The boy was very sharp if you asked her.
Her blue eyes darted to Kyoko and Haru. Both girls looked at her with a burning curiosity as if they could not wait to hear what happened. Naruto sighed. It was not like she could blame them. The fact she asked for so much money and finishing their training earlier than expected meant that something big was going to happen to them.
"What happened Naruto?" Haru called out. Brown eyes gleamed with curiosity and hope while golden eyes looked at her with worry. Naruto took a deep breath and folded her arms against her chest. Should she tell them now? Or wait till later to inform them? If she told them now then they were going to get distracted.
But if she told them later then it would make her no better than Tsuna or Ryohei. Naruto exhaled and looked down at her watch. 30 minutes. That would have to be the time limit that she set for Haku and herself. But it would be a quick amount of time for her and Haku to get over to the hospital. She nodded and looked up at the sky.
Well it would not hurt her to tell them in the long run.
"Someone got injured and Sawada needs someone to patch him up," she explained.
Kyoko and Haru glanced at each other and looked back at her with wide eyes. What is happening? That was what their eyes seemed to be asking her and the blonde grimaced. If only she knew the whole story of what happened with Tsuna, but until she got the news then there was nothing she could tell them.
The golden-brown haired girl cleared her throat and looked at her with determined, trustful eyes. Trust. Now that was something for her to pause at. Not many people would look at her with those kind of eyes. She curled her lips into a small smile. It was amusing if you asked her. They were getting close but not to that level.
"Do you need us to do anything?" Kyoko asked. Golden eyes begged her to give them some work to do and that innocent determination almost made her smile. Almost was the keyword. But showing her emotions at this moment was not her cup of tea. Instead, the blonde schooled her expression into a blank one.
She inspected the two girls and considered what could be done. Sawada won't tell them anything but his lies towards them will tell me if the Mafia is involved. Naruto hummed and relaxed her shoulders before flickering her eyes to Haku. He looked to his own watch and then back to her. She knew what he was trying to tell her but she shook her head.
This needed to be done before they leave them.
"Pretend that you have no idea that something happened," Naruto answered as she picked up the remaining kunai from the ground. Her blue eyes inspected the kunai before looking back at them. "You guys keep an eye on Tsuna and your brother. If they act weird to you then you tell me and if you can…listen in on their conversations."
I won't give them a chance to hide any piece of information from me.
"Mind explaining to me what happened?"
Naruto folded her arms against her chest and fixated her blue eyes on Tsuna. The brown-haired boy clasped his hands together, flickering his eyes from Haku to her. He had been quiet since they came into the room that he texted her. Too quiet for my taste. She grimaced as her eyes focused on the guilty brown eyes of her classmate.
Tsuna hunched his shoulders and rubbed the sides of his head. His eyes looked at her as if they were conflicted about whether to tell her the whole story or to make up some kind of lie to her. If he lied to her then she was going to find out eventually. If he told her the truth then their relationship would improve.
"I don't know what exactly happened," her classmate admitted. He rubbed the back of his neck and exhaled as his brown eyes locked onto her. Naruto quirked a single eyebrow at the boy. "But I think he was fighting some guy called Squalo…and Squalo is a part of the Vongola Familigia."
Internal conflict? That was the first conclusion that came to her mind at those words. Naruto thinned her lips and flickered her eyes to Haku, who was still focused on healing the pretty boy on the hospital bed. She took a seat on the other empty seat and rubbed the sides of her head as her blue eyes darted back to Tsuna.
Should she tell him of the conclusion that came to her mind? Or should she keep the idea to herself? It does involve him. Naruto grimaced and eyed the unconscious boy on the bed. Those wounds decorated his face, slowly patching itself up and the blonde thinned her lips. If there was internal conflict then what would be the cause?
No, she needed to get more information.
"What happened next?" Naruto asked. She picked up a magazine and flipped till the image of the gossip columns, before focusing her eyes back on the boy. What would he do now? Would he tell me more? I can't piece everything together if he doesn't tell me. She thinned her lips and rubbed the back of her neck.
Tsuna eyed her as if he was concerned about whether to tell her the truth or not. She shrugged. I'm going to find out eventually. The blonde schooled her expression into a blank one as Haku flickered his eyes to her. His eyes practically asked her if she wanted him to stop the treatment and the blonde shook her head.
The ¥500,000 depended on the healing of those wounds.
"Yamamoto and Gokudera tried to fight him but they couldn't defeat him," Tsuna finally answered. His shoulders trembled and the blonde figured that meant he was still pretty shaken up about it. I will have Haku console him. She had never been the comforting type after all. "Reborn also shot me with the Dying Will bullet but I couldn't defeat him. We were…outclassed."
Is this where I try to comfort him? She grimaced at the idea and exhaled. What was there for her to say? Tsuna, Gokudera and Yamamoto were strong for civilians but not strong enough if you asked her. It was only natural that they could not defeat him but they must have gotten cocky. She grimaced.
Had they gotten cocky because Hibari and her could not defeat Mukuro? That was not very bright. Naruto clasped her hands behind her neck and fixated her eyes on Tsuna. If I scold him then it sounds like I care and if I tell him this then I'm advising him…without being paid. Now that was equally unfavorable for her.
"Tsuna, Romario is here to tell you the full state of the boy's condition!" Naruto tore her eyes away from Tsuna as the door slid open to reveal a young male in his early twenties entering the hospital room. Pretty boy. That was how she would describe the male if you asked her. With his shaggy blond hair and brown eyes, she could imagine the male had a lot of attention.
Too bad that he was not really her type. If Hibari is here then I have a feeling that he will be upset. She snorted at the thought and shook her head at the idea. They have been together for five months now so it would be impossible for him to be jealous anymore. Naruto exhaled and shook her head as Reborn followed behind the man.
"I-It is okay, Dino-san," Tsuna stuttered. The blond-haired male blinked and his brown eyes shifted from her to Haku. Curiosity shone through his eyes as his eyes took in the faint green glow of Haku's hands. The brown-haired boy flickered his eyes to her as if to ask her to stop the treatment and she nodded her head. "I just want to know who he is."
Reborn quirked an eyebrow at her and she shook her head. I'm not explaining of what Haku is doing to some guy I don't know and for free either! She hoped that her eyes spoke everything to him. The toddler tilted his hat downwards and his lips curled into a smirk as if he found her words to be very amusing to her.
The blond-haired man flickered his eyes from Tsuna to her. His lips curled into a frown and Dino rubbed the back of his neck. This is Mafia business, isn't it? She guessed that was the answer from the reluctance that the male had to answer Tsuna's question. A sigh escaped her lips and Naruto leaned against the seat.
"You don't need to worry about Naruto and Haku," Reborn informed the male. Dino blinked and swirled his head down to the toddler before flickering his eyes back at her. She shrugged and offered him a smile. "Naruto will find out sooner or later even if you don't tell her. She is very good in finding out things that interests people."
Dino blinked and swirled his head at her. His brown eyes widened and looked at her in disbelief as if he could not believe a 14-year-old was capable of doing something like that. Naruto exhaled and rubbed the back of her neck, offering the male an innocent smile. I'm very capable of finding things that interest me. She hoped that it would lure him into a sense of calmness.
It was a terrifying idea to know that a 14-year-old was capable of finding dirty little secrets of people. But then again I'm not like most normal 14-year-old girls. She quirked her lips into a smile and folded her legs together as her eyes fixated on the conflicted brown eyes. Even if he continued to stare at her like that, she was not going to leave.
"He isn't apart of the Vongola Familigia," Dino finally answered. His brown eyes fixated on the boy and a frown decorated his lips. She could figured out why. The sight of most of the bruises disappearing must have confused him. She curled her lips into a smile. "But he is definitely on your side, Tsuna."
The only response coming out of Tsuna was silence. That was expected if you asked her, since this kind of news would make anyone freeze in shock. She schooled her expression into a blank one when the brown-haired teen swirled his head at her. Those brown eyes looked at her as if he wanted to know whether she believed it or not.
I can believe it but it is confusing. Naruto licked her teeth and pursed her lips into a very thin line. How could this guy not be apart of the Vongola Familigia? And still help Tsuna? Internal conflict had been the theory but maybe she was wrong. She poked her tongue against her cheeks and flickered her eyes to Haku. But the boy only knitted his eyebrows together.
"What is happening?" Tsuna finally demanded. His brown eyes flickered from Dino to Reborn and the blonde knew from the trembles in his body that it would be a matter of time before he faint. She shook her head. "Vongola is my enemy now and the ones that aren't a part of the Vongola Familigia are!"
Naruto rubbed her chin and focused on the three males before her. Internal conflict can still be a possibility but why would the Vongola Familigia hurt their own heir? It makes no sense. She thinned her lips and stood up from her seat. There was a possibility but didn't Reborn tell her that there were no more biological heirs? Unless there was one.
That was the only explanation but Reborn was also not the type to lie. Maybe bloodlines aren't important in the inheriting of the Familigia. She flickered her eyes to the toddler and the man called Dino. Should she mention the idea to Tsuna? Well it would probably make him have a better idea of what might have happened. He was going to find out anyway.
"It means not everyone is happy about the fact that you became the heir of the Vongola Familigia," Naruto answered. Tsuna froze and swirled his head at her. Brown eyes widened and pleaded for her to explain further. I will increase the price after we are done here. She snorted. "It means that there was another possible candidate or am I wrong? And to become the legitimate heir, he wants to kill you."
Tsuna paled at her words while Dino looked at her like she was insane for stating the fact to the boy. What? This is his life and I'm not even sure I'm right. She hummed as Haku took a seat on another chair. His brown eyes looked thoughtful and she knew that her subordinate believed that it was possible.
Shinobi had been hired to kill potential candidates before or so the Hokage once told her when she asked stories about his missions. Naruto quirked her lips into a thin smile and rubbed the back of her neck. This made more and more sense, the more she thought about it. But why now? Something was not making much sense.
This is a puzzle that I want to solve.
"Is Naruto right? Is there someone else?" Tsuna demanded. Reborn opened his mouth and the brown-haired teen furiously shook his head at him. "No! Don't answer that! Tell me later! I have homework to do!"
He doesn't change, does he? The blonde thinned her lips and watched as the male dashed right out of the door, leaving her alone with three other males. She rubbed the back of her neck and flickered her eyes to Haku. They probably would have to complete the treatment when everyone was gone from the hospital room. Naruto sighed at the idea.
Naruto stood up from her seat and put her hands into her pocket as Haku raised a single eyebrow at him. We are going to leave. She subtly jerked her head at the door and the boy nodded. It was good that their relationship reached a point to where they could communicate without much words. But then again they did spend time together during their patrols.
"Since he is out, we are going to leave."
Reborn nodded.
"Naruto!" The blonde blinked and looked down at the toddler. Reborn jumped up and made himself comfortable on her shoulder, earning a raised eyebrow from her. He shrugged his shoulders and offered her a smile. "Tsuna's Father wants to meet you and he wants to make a proposition to you."
Now that was not what she expected to hear when she entered the hospital.
A/N: So four months have passed but the events of the four months would be told in flashbacks. So here are the next couple of questions:
Question 1: Who do you think are Naruto's Guardians?
Question 2: What do you think Iemitsu will offer to Naruto? And his reaction to her?
Question 3: How do you think Naruto will react when she meets Xanxus?
Please tell me of your thoughts about this chapter.
