Chapter 39: Knight Falls
Yuri picked himself up and drew his next card.
"My turn. To start off, I'll add Polymerization to hand thanks to Chimerafflesia's effect. Now, I activate Predaplast! Now, by revealing a Predaplant in my hand, like my Chlamydosundew, I can place a Preda Counter on your Cursed Javelin."
A twisted weed shout out and wrapped itself tightly around the arm of Cursed Javelin, causing the monster to grunt in pain.
"Next, I summon the monster you just saw. Come forth, Predaplant Chlamydosundew (600/200) in defens mode!"
Some sort of mutated plant/lizard emerged, snapping its jaws at its enemy. Yuto's eyes narrowed.
"Playing defense isn't like you Fusion freaks. What game are you playing?"
"I'm glad you asked. See, my Chlamydosundew allows me to Fusion summon without the need of Polymerization. But here's the best part. See that Predator Counter on your monster? I can use him for the fusion summon."
"What?"
A vine shot out from the lizzards back and entangled Cursed Javelin, and despite the knight's best efforts he could not break free before he was dragged into a fusion vortex.
"This is the beginning of the end for you, Xyz scum! Appear, Starving Venom Fusion Dragon (2800/2000)!"
Yuri's massive dragon burst out with a tremendous roar, causing shock waves that tore apart the field. Yuto could feel Dark Rebellion grow restless in his extra deck, as could Yuri.
"It seems your dragon wants to play as well. Too bad he has to wait until next turn to come out. Starving Venom, hit his Shadow Veil with Venom surge!"
The dragon shot out massive waves of energy, destroying Yuto's monster before the shockwave hit Yuto dead on and sending him hurdling into a building.
"Yuto!"
Despite his injuries, Yuto struggled to his feet, grunting in pain.
"When one of my knights are destroyed, I can special summon The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor from my hand."
Yuto's ghostly armor appeared, kneeling in defense mode to protect its master. Yuri just grinned.
"I admire your courage, but the smart thing would've been to stay down. Fortunately for you, I'll end my turn with two cards facedown."
Grunting in pain, Yuto drew his next card with a pained grunt.
"I draw! I summon The Phantom Knights of Cloven Helm!"
Seeing that Yuto had two level four monsters on his field, Yuri grinned in anticipation. He could already tell what was coming next.
"Go ahead, bring out your Dragon!"
"No!"
"Ask and you shall recieve! With these two monster, I build the overlay network! Come forth, Dark Rebellion Dragon!"
Yuto's ace emerged, letting out a roar along Yuri's monster, as if calling to each other. Just as before, Yuri and Yuto's eyes began to glow.
"Yes...reunite as one."
"Reunite as one..."
Yuya's eyes shot open as he cried in pain, Zuzu scrambling over to him.
"Yuya, are you alright?"
"The pain...it burns!"
"Hang in there Yuya!"
"Enough fooling around! By detaching two overlay units, My Dark Rebellion can steal half of your dragon's attack points for himself! Go, Treason Discharge!"
Lightning wrapped around and shocked Yuri's dragon, sapping its strength as Yuto's grew stronger (2800-1400) (2500-3900).
"This duel is over! Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon, avenge Heartland with Mauling Mandible Discharge!"
With a mighty roar, Dark Rebellion impaled Starving Venom with its glowing mandible, shocking it into submission. But before the damage could reach Yuri, Yuri revealed his facedown card.
"Nice try, but I'm still in this! Go, Dimension Wall! Now, any damage I take from this attack goes to you!"
"What!"
The excess lightning from the attack diverted from Yuri and struck Yuto, causing him to howl in agony.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhh!"
Yuto collapsed to the ground as the lightning ceased, exhausted. At last, Yuri's dragon disintegrated, leaving nothing more than a puddle of acid.
Yuto: 1500
Yuri walked over to Yuto, enjoying seeing his opponent in pain as he rolled him over to his side with his foot.
"I must admit, your effort was admirable, but I'm afraid our little game is over. When Starving Venom bites the dust, he takes all special summoned monsters with him!"
The pool of acid shot up, impaling Starving Venom in several places before it exploded.
"And for my final trick, I activate the trap card Supreme King's Wrath! Since your monster was destroyed by the effect of my monster from the extra deck, You lose life points equal to your monster's attack points!"
Yuto, his eyes no longer glowing, could only look up weakily as the acid shot down towards him.
"Lulu... I've failed you."
With a massive explosion, the acid drops made contact, taking out the remainder of Yuto's life points.
Yuto: 0000
Yuri wins!
"Yuto, no!"
Yuri grinned, bringing up his duel disk.
"You're coming with me! The Professor is just dying to have a talk with you!"
"No!"
Zuzu ran up, grabbing Yuri's wrist as he struggled to break free.
"Let go! You're coming too, so just make it easier on both of us and..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Zuzu's bracelet glowed, sending him away. Yuya, now fully awake, limped over to Yuto.
"Yuto, come on, speak to me!"
Weakly, Yuto opened his eyes, grimacing in severe pain.
"I tried, but I wasn't strong enough. I failed her. I've failed Lulu."
"You're going to be alright. We'll get you help, we'll..."
"No, its too late for me."
With the last energy he had left, Yuto removed Dark Rebellion from his duel disk and weakly handed it to Yuya.
"Take good care...of Dark Rebellion. I don't know why, but our dragons seemed to be drawn to each other. Take him...and make Duel Academy pay. Promise me... You'll bring Lulu home."
With tears in his eyes, Yuya took the dragon.
"I promise, Yuto."
With a weak smile, Yuto vanished, leaving nothing more than his duel disk and cloak. Yuya could no longer contain himself, and threw his head back in anguish.
"YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
