Chapter Twenty Seven – Facing the scary well monster

I received a guide today for how the haunted town was to be played out. It seems the person starts at the windmill and is instructed to enter the well where they will fight a monster to obtain the lens of truth and some called hover boots. Both items only work as part of the haunted town event. After getting the items you find a hidden passage within that room by using the lens of truth. The path leads to the temple where you will need to use the hover boots to get over a large pit and enter the main part of the temple. After getting through the temple you meet a monster named Bongo Bongo. The monster will start to attack the hero just as Impa jumps in to protect them and provides the hero with a fake master sword that was specially designed to defeat the monster and save the day.

The event sounds really fun and I hope Link is enjoying it.

Once Link finally reached the top of the ladder he was surprised to find he was back at the beginning of the first room he entered where the spider had been killed. He was standing near the opening in the wall he came through after climbing down into the well. Looking back down at the floor he was shocked to see the ladder was gone and there appeared to be solid ground where he just climbed up from, but when he placed a foot on that spot it passed right through. It seemed the walls and floors were hidings passageways, and some of them seemed to be ones you could fall into and get seriously hurt.

Seeing there were hidden holes in the ground made him worry there might be other holes he would have to watch out for, but with no way to tell where they were all he could do was be as careful as possible. Since he managed to get away from all those redead he felt he was finally able to relax for a moment, but at that moment the giant skull reappeared from around the corner and started flying towards him again.

Running down the corridor as quickly as possible he placed the sheath of the master sword on the wall as he ran to see if there was a hidden place he could hide. Once he ran a little ways he felt the sheath pass through the wall and he quickly dove through and managed to avoid getting burned by the flames from the skull as it flew by. He quickly got back up and looked around the room and realized he was back in the room with the giant 'X'. He knew he didn't want to stay in there since there was a giant hand somewhere in there that would attack him, and the thought of falling back to the cavern below made him shuddered. He didn't want to go through all of that again, so he turned and quickly walked back through the wall now that the giant skull had moved on for the moment.

As he left the room he noticed he was back at the area where there was a trifroce symbol on the floor. On the opposite wall was a strange looking face made of stone with its mouth open and water poured out to a hole that was mostly full of water below. He decided to try playing the song Zelda had him learn so many years ago, but he still couldn't remember the song very well, and he still wasn't any better at playing the ocarina. Pulling it out he began playing, but nothing was happening. He knew he wasn't playing all the notes correctly, but he figured it should at least give him credit for trying. After a few failed attempts he noticed a valve hidden behind the flow of water that was pouring from the mouth.

At that same moment the giant skull appeared from around the corner again and began racing towards him. Link quickly went back through the wall and allowed the skull to pass once again, then returned to examining the valve. With a quick turn the water instantly shut off and the pool of water below drained almost instantly. With a new path opened he decided to go in and see where it would lead him. To his surprise he found a hidden door that was blocked until the water was lowered.

Going through the door he found the room was dimly lit and there were very thin white poles sticking out of the ground. There didn't seem to be anything special about the room, and it seemed to go nowhere, so he decided to head back and keep looking for where he was supposed to be going. While heading back towards the door he decided to cut across the room, and as he was passing one of the white poles he noticed it suddenly bent towards him. With amazing reflexes he managed to roll out of the way just in time to see another pole bending towards him as well. He rushed back to the side of the room and looked back at the poles, and to his surprised they were actually arms sticking out of the ground with claws at the top that tried to bend down to grab him when he got too close.

Realizing the arms must have been attached to a monster, he was suddenly confused to where the monster was. Taking out his sword he decided to try and attack the arm in hopes it would make it reveal itself, but as he drew close the arm moved with such speed it caught him off guard and he dropped his sword as the claw grabbed onto his head and wouldn't let go. While struggling to break free he heard a noise from across the room and noticed a large body appeared out of the ground and began making its way towards him.

The creature was very tall and completely pale with red blotches all over its body. It had giant teeth that protruded from its mouth, and it seemed to only have stubs where its arms normally would have been. Its body was very large as it protruded from the ground, but quickly narrowed at the long neck that connected to a tiny bald head that almost reached the ceiling of the room. The creature hunched over as it lowered its head down to same height as its stomach and began moving towards him. Since it didn't have any arms on its main body, and could only grab him from the arms it had scattered around the room. Just before it got too close the hand lost its grip on him and he was able to run away.

Link tried to grab his sword as he was running away, but he ended up stumbling across the room and smashing his face into the wall. Surprisingly it didn't seem to hurt as the walls seemed to be made of very soft dirt, but it made him wonder why the room didn't collapse in on itself. The thought quickly came and went as the monster was still coming after him, and he still didn't have his sword. The monster was now standing between him and his sword, so his only option was to lead the monster further away and try to go after it once he knew he wouldn't be in danger.

As he ran to the opposite side of the room he looked back just in time to see the monster sink back into the ground. The creature could've been anywhere now, but he needed to get his sword back as well, so he took off back across the room and dove for his sword as one of the arms tried to grab hold of him and barely missed. Rolling along the ground he slowed himself down and quickly stood back up with sword in hand, and looked around the room ready for the creature to pop back up at any moment from all the noise he just caused, but it didn't return.

He wasn't certain, but it seemed the monster would only appear if it was able to grab hold of him, so he moved over to one of the arms, and allowed it to grab hold of his head, and instantly the monster returned to the surface and began moving across the room towards him once again.

This time Link was ready, and with great speed he sliced the arm in two and it released its grip on him. Once free he took off across the room and stood in front of the creature and waited for it to lower its head. As it opened its mouth much wider than it should've been able to, he took his sword and cut the head off. The creature let out a high pitch scream, and the moment the head hit the floor the body quickly returned below the ground and the remaining arms that were around the room also vanished beneath the ground.

Feeling accomplished he suddenly noticed a treasure chest on the far side of the room he didn't notice before. As he opened the chest he was surprised to locate a strange purple magnify glass that had an eye on it. Unsure what he was supposed to do with it he decided to leave the room with that monster and try it back in the main area of the well and see if it did anything. To his surprise it revealed all the hidden paths and all the holes in the floor. With his new item in hand he decided to head back out of the well and find out what he needed to do with it to locate the path into the shadow temple.

Back in the room with the well monster the actors that were controlling the creature came out and began talking about what Link just did to them.

"I can't believe he attacked the puppet." The actor that was controlling the arms said angrily.

"At least you weren't inside the creature when he used his sword on it like I was." The actress said angrily. "He almost cut my hand off!"

"Where do you think he went?" A third actress said confused. "He didn't even wait for the room to cave in and have sunlight kill the monster. He took the lens of truth and left in the wrong direction."

"I don't know where he went, but I think we need to report this situation to Impa." The first actor said. "If that boy comes back he'll have to apologize for what he did to us. I'm sure he was warned not to bring any weapons in here, and yet he ended up using one on us."

"If he comes back I'm going to give him a piece of my mind." The woman that was wearing the costume said angrily.

"I'm surprised the boy didn't use the lens of truth in this room. He would have noticed the other treasure chest hidden behind the hologram wall and would have found the path into the shadow temple."
