*Chapter 22: A Happy Ending*

Where in place of Ratigan's picture, there was a newspaper clipping with a picture of Basil, Robyn, and Dawson bowing before Queen Moustoria, being knighted for their bravery. The headline reads, "Queen Honours Detective" along with the sub headlines "Queen Praises Detective Basil, Medal to be Given".

"To be thanked by the queen herself!" Dawson said in awe as he recalls that day, looking at the newspaper. "Oh how very thrilling, eh Basil?" The detective places Ratigan's bell on the mantle as a memory of the case. His long time enemy has been finally stopped. All thanks to his companions and the love of his life.

"All in a day's work, doctor." Basil said. The other mice are in the same room, visiting Basil and Dawson. Robyn came out of the guest room, in her blue dress, joining Basil's side, wrap her arm around his. Basil smiled and touched her hand lovingly. "How are you feeling, my darling?"

"Never better." Robyn said, giving Basil a kiss on the cheek. Gustave and Olivia giggled at them. They are happy that Basil and Robyn are together as a couple after the adventure. "All thanks to Dr. Dawson who treat us after the fiasco." Robyn said. "He is wonderful." Dawson chuckled bashfully.

"Indeed." Mr. Flaversham spoke. He looks down at his pocket watch. "Oh my, we're late to catch our train. Come along, Olivia."

"Yes, father." Olivia said. She came up to Basil and Robyn to hug them both. "Goodbye, Basil and Robyn." She sniffed. "I-I'll never forget you." Basil smiles and leans down and grab her shoulders.

"Nor I you." He said. "Miss...Miss Flangerhanger." He joked. Robyn lightly hits him on the arm, making the children giggle. Dawson chuckled behind Olivia who smiled up at him.

"Whatever."

"Robyn, you were very brave. You and Gustave are wonderful friends." Olivia said to the female mouse. Gustave walked over to Olivia and gave her a hug. He is no longer wearing his gypsy outfit. Even his gold earring is removed. He is wearing a blue suit with a white shirt underneath, and black shoes. Since he is given a home at the Opera house for sure, he must dress appropriately to help around. "Goodbye, Gustave. I will miss you." Olivia said.

"I'll miss you too. You're a great friend to me." Gustave said. The girl looked up at Dawson, Zoe, and Ginny, saying goodbye to them before walking out the door to follow her father. They all watch Olivia turn back once more and whispered.

"Goodbye." Then, she walked out, closing the door behind her. Gustave took out a violin case and walk up to the detective.

"Basil, there is something I want you to have since I'll be busy working for Madame Ginny." Gustave opens the violin case and show the detective the violin. Basil blinked and kneel down to take it out, staring at it. Looks just like his old one he accidently sat on.

"Gustave, this was yours?" Basil asked. "My boy, you can't expect me to take this-"

"I want you to have it. My gift to you, sir." Gustave said with a smile. Basil held the violin in his hands and place it by his red chair. The detective brought the boy to a hug. Robyn chuckled heartily at the sight.

"Thank you, Gustave." Basil said. The young rat pulled away and stood by Zoe and her mother. Basil turned to Robyn and held her hands. Ginny watched the two talking to each other about their future, but Robyn must return to her home. Though, Ginny thought of other ideas. She could tell that Basil really cares and loves Robyn. "I want us to be together here. We work together as a team for new cases. And Dr. Dawson will be my trusted associate, with whom I do all my cases." Basil said. Dawson blinked at him.

"What? What?" Basil turned to him and got his hand out. Dawson realized what Basil is asking him. Dawson was asked to be a partner and had a place to stay after all. "Oh, yes. Yes! By all means." Dawson shook Basil's hand.

"Oh, Basil. That sounds wonderful. If only I could-" Robyn was then cut off when Ginny cleared her throat.

"Pardon me." She said. "Basil, I just got to thinking. Perhaps...Robyn should be having a place to stay. And...I believe she should stay here...with you and Dr. Dawson." All of the mice turn to her. Robyn is shocked by her caretaker's words.

"Madame Ginny?" She asked, touching her shoulder, not sure if she is serious.

"Robyn, it would be wrong for me if I keep you away from this detective. After all, you two have known each other since children and now you two have become more." Ginny said. "You may stay with him, my dear." Robyn form a smile and gave her a hug. Zoe and Gustave smiled as they watch the two embrace. "But, Robyn..." Ginny stares at the mouse. "Tomorrow night, you must perform. One last time." She said. Robyn didn't say anything and turn to Basil and Dawson. The public wanted to hear her voice again. For her friends of the Opera house, she will do it. And then she will retire and begin her life anew with Basil.

Everyone applauded at Robyn's singing performance in her golden gown with the dancers bowing behind her. Dawson watched from one of the boxes with Basil. They applauded loudly as the mice in the audience threw roses at the stage, and the red curtains close.
The cast of the opera show were about to do the cast party after the curtain call, but Robyn was nowhere to be found. Gustave found a letter by the vase of roses. He gave it to Ginny and Zoe.

"Dear Madame Ginny,
Wish me luck. Sorry for leaving like this, but Basil and I were about to go on a new adventure. I will come back and visit you all soon. Take care!
- Robyn Lotte."

Ginny couldn't help but to smile as Zoe took the letter. Dawson went backstage to look for both Basil and Robyn, but notice the letter. He let out a chuckle.

"Such a perfect ending." He said.

"No." Ginny spoke as she picks up a rose. "It's a perfect beginning." She wiped a tear with her handkerchief happily.

At the rose garden, Toby sat by the tree as the two heroes started to waltz around the garden under the moonlight. Robyn is still in her gold gown, but her hair is in a low ponytail as soon as she left the Opera house with Basil. The two mice smiled lovingly at each other as they dance around the roses. They both started to sing to each other, handing hands.

"Two lives have begun now,
Two hearts become one now!
One passion, one dream,
One thing forever true:
I love you!"

They lean in and kiss passionately. Robyn cupped Basil's face, as Basil wrapped his arms around her waist. Toby shields his eyes with his long ears. Basil and Robyn pull away and Basil picked up Robyn in bridal style and spun her around. Robyn let out a laugh as her detective spun her around.
And so, Basil and Robyn are living happily ever after. With Dawson who just got hired by the detective, the trio were a close team. They will be solving cases together in near future. But Robyn will always look back on that first with the most fondness by introduction. Basil of Baker Street. The Great Mouse Detective.
