Haisley's point of view.
Today was the day I had to go to school, I would have to make new friends and meet new teachers. Some of my nursery friends are coming with me but not my best friend Sarah. I can't wait for my cousin Archie to be old enough to play with.
I woke up to my mountain of teddies in my bed, I looked at my special clock and it was orange. This means that I can't wake mummy and daddy up. I have to wait for the yellow or it's really good when I wait for the green.
Mummy is happy when I go in on the green because she gets the best sleep, but today is not that day, I have a funny feeling in my stomach and I want a cuddle with my mummy.
I jump out of bed, this is a fun way to wake myself up in the morning, I also like to sing on my way to mummy. Daddy loves my singing, he will be a bit sad I have come in on the orange clock because he gets grumpy when he doesn't sleep.
On my way to mummy's room I saw my school uniform hanging on a hanger in the front room, mummy told me that it had to hang there so I didn't get it dirty but I think she was sad when she put it away so she put it there so she could look at it.
Mummy keeps looking at me funny the last couple of days. She always has watery eyes when we talk about school which makes me think it might be a bad place. It didn't seem bad when I went for a visit, I liked my teacher, she showed me where I could put all my pictures and hang my coat.
I stood outside mummy's room and I could hear daddy's snoring. He sounds like a big furry bear that is sleeping all winter, like the one in my book but daddy is not scary, he is a big cuddly bear.
I love daddy being at home with me and mummy. He wasn't here when I was a baby but mummy says he was always thinking about me.
"Mummy" I called out as I pushed her door open. She opened her eyes but she did that thing where she looks at the time and sighs.
I jump up onto the bed with her and jump into the middle of mummy and daddy. That feeling in my tummy was still there but when mummy put her arms around me it felt a bit better.
"Haisley, it is very early" Peter told her, grumbling as he looked at the clock.
"My tummy is funny"
"You are just nervous, baby" Carla said, pulling her into her for a hug.
"You will have an amazing day at school" Peter told her "when you finish later on you will wonder what all the fuss was about"
Haisley nodded as her tummy rumbled.
Peter laughed "maybe you are just hungry"
Haisley giggled and nodded.
After a special 'first day of school' breakfast, Carla helped Haisley get into her school uniform.
She had a white polo shirt on which was tucked into a little grey skirt. She had a red cardigan over the top. Her little white socks came half way up her shin, with a little bow on it. She then put her little black shoes on that had a slight shine.
"You look beautiful" Peter said, looking at his little girl.
"How do I look mummy?" Haisley asked, giving her a little spin.
"You look so grown up" Carla told her with a tear in her eye "I have to get a photo of you"
Haisley groaned.
"Come on baby, mummy wants a photo so I can remember this moment" Carla pleaded with her.
"Haisley smile for your mum please" Peter asked, knowing that Carla needed this.
Haisley posed for her mum, she smiled in one, pouted in another and turned her head like an angel in another.
"Amazing" Carla said in glee.
Haisleys POV
Mummy made me take loads of photos. She had that look on her face again, she looked sad. Daddy kept looking at mummy with a funny smile. They were both acting strange but today was supposed to be about me.
I wanted to see grandad on the way and auntie Kate. So mummy told me that she sent the photo of me in my uniform to everyone. They all said that they would meet us outside our house so I got really excited to show everyone my new bag, it had Elsa and Anna on it, oh and Olaf of course.
I screamed when I saw Simon waiting for me outside. He didn't tell me that he was coming. I screamed again when he told me he was walking with me, mummy and daddy.
Auntie Kate shouted over at me, telling me that I looked like a grown up but she is silly because I am just a four year old.
"There is my grown up niece, off to her first day at school" Kate said, crossing the road. She gave Haisley a big hug "good luck today"
"I am going to have so much fun" Haisley told her.
"Thanks for coming" Peter said.
"How is she holding up?" Kate asked, pointing to Carla.
"She is breaking inside, but she's coping" Peter replied, smiling at Carla.
"There's my granddaughter" Johnny said, approaching the group "all ready for her first day at big school"
"I am ready to go now" Haisley said, she was getting bored with all the adults reacting to her big day. She didn't understand that this was a first for all involved.
They all said goodbye, letting Carla, Peter and Simon to walk Haisley to school. Once they got to the playground Carla had a mini break down. The family stood waiting for the teacher to call all the reception class to line up. Carla let a tear out as she watched Haisley run around with her friend.
Peter placed his arm around her "she will be fine you know"
"I know she will but I am her mum, let me be sad" Carla told him.
"Wow, is this what all the mums get like?" Simon asked, looking around at all the other parents.
Peter nodded at him.
"Right, bumble bee class line up for me please and say goodbye to your mummy's and daddy's"
Haisley ran over to her mum and gave her the biggest hug, which of course set Carla off.
"Have a fantastic day baby" Carla told her, kissing her on the top of her head.
Peter put his arms around both of them "be good and make loads of friends"
"I will" Haisley said "I will see you when you pick me up" Haisley then turned and walked into the line. She lined up and patiently waited for the teacher to tell her she could come in.
Carla watched as her baby walked into the classroom, out of her sight.
She wiped the tear that escaped her eye "what are we waiting for, let's go home" Carla sped off out of the playground, leaving a shocked and confused Peter and Simon to follow.
Once Carla was back at home, Peter at work and Simon back at school, Carla had a good cry. She wasn't sure if it was the hormones from the baby or because she was just so emotional about Haisley going to school but she just needed to let a few out.
Haisley POV
When I said goodbye to mummy and daddy, mummy looked sad again but she tried to hide it. My teacher then called me and my friends into the classroom so it was time for them to go.
I hung my coat and my new frozen bag on my peg with my name on it and sat on the ABC mat. The teacher then called out everyone's names and we learnt who was who. We then sat at a table with our names on it, the teacher told me that this would be my seat now. I sat next to a girl and a boy.
The girl was called Maisie and the boy was called Tim. Maisie was nice and shared her pens with me, Tim was funny and made me laugh. On the other side of the table, sat Dastan and Arabella. They were nice too, although I saw him pull Arabella's hair.
After drawing some pictures it was time to do some singing on the mat. My teacher told me I did good singing with my friends. Then we went outside to play before lunch time. My lunch was nice, I think mummy gave me a special lunch because it was my first day.
The afternoon went really quickly because we got free time to play with what we wanted. The teacher read us a few stories whilst I sat on the mat, after free time. She told us our mummy's would be back for us after a few stories so I got excited to see my mummy.
Once the end of the day bell rang, I was told by my teacher that my mummy was here. I got my coat and bag and ran to the back door. When the door opened I ran over to my mummy. She picked me up and gave me the biggest cuddle.
"I missed you today" Carla told Haisley whilst she gave her a big hug.
"I had so much fun today mummy" Haisley told her.
"See I told you, you would have fun" Peter reminded her. He had finished work early to pick her up from school. He wanted to be there for her as it was a big day. Carla took the whole day off as she knew she wouldn't be much use at work.
"Come on, shall we go for some ice cream?" Carla asked.
"yay! " Haisley shouted "Ice cream"
After a week at school Haisley and Carla had gotten used to being separated and to their new routine. Carla was very happy that she was pregnant because it gave her something to focus on.
Aiden was still at home with Archie and Emma so Carla had to take on a more solo role at the factory whilst he was gone. She was happy with this though as she knew her brother needed this time.
Everything was going smoothly for the couple. Peter was happy at home and work, Carla was very happy with her life right now and Haisley was settled in school. It would seem like nothing could ruin this but this is Carla and Peter and things aren't that easy.
It was a monday morning after a pretty good weekend. Carla received the post, in which was a letter from the crown prosecution service asking her to be a witness in Rob and Tom's trial for attempted murder.
The date was for February next year.
Carla of course phoned Peter straight away to tell him. They both gathered that Peter would be a witness as he was the one the crime was against. Carla was nervous to see Rob and she knew she was going to be a lot more pregnant by that time.
It was now October, Haisley was thriving in school. Carla woke up this morning excited as today was the day of her scan. This is what her and Peter were waiting for.
Peter was going to be there this time and support her through it. The couple dropped Haisley off at school and made their way to the hospital.
As they waited in the waiting room Carla said "If everything is ok with the baby we can tell everyone soon" Peter nodded in response "I can't wait to tell Haisley"
"She will be so excited to be a big sister" Peter told her.
The couple discussed their happy future together in the waiting room whilst waiting to go in.
Suddenly, Carla was called in, she took a deep breath whilst Peter stood.
"Come on, I will be right by your side" Peter told her, holding out his hand.
Carla nodded, accepting his hand. The couple walked hand in hand to the scan room.
Carla knew the drill after last time. She climbed onto the bed and after a short discussion with the sonographer, she lifted her top.
"This will be cold" she warned.
Carla shuddered as the gel was squirted on her stomach. Peter smiled, still holding her hand.
The sonographer placed the scanner onto her stomach, looking at the screen for herself.
"Is everything okay?" Carla asked, a little worried that she was taking a while.
"Everything is absolutely fine" she replied. She turned the screen to face Carla and Peter "there is your baby"
"Wow" Peter gasped.
"A strong heartbeat" the sonographer said, turning on the sound so the parents could hear.
Carla let out some tears. She was overjoyed that everything was ok. Peter placed a kiss onto her forehead, letting out a tear himself.
"You are measuring at a healthy twelve weeks"
"Twelve weeks?" Carla questioned "that must mean late July or early August"
"That was really fast, we only started trying around that time"
"Sometimes it just happens like that, you are both very lucky, congratulations"
"Thank you"
"I will print these photos for you and you can be on your way"
Once she had left the room to collect the photos for the couple, Carla wiped the gel off of her stomach and sat up "twelve weeks already, that means we can tell people"
"It does indeed" Peter gave her a peck on the lips "I can't wait to tell Simon and Haisley"
"Oh look, already texts from Chelle and Kate" Carla said, pulling her phone out of her bag.
"Did you expect any different love?" He asked with a smirk.
The sonographer entered the room holding an envelope "here are your pictures, congratulations again"
"Thank you" Carla said, taking them from her.
Once in the car park, Carla got into the car, pulling the pictures out of the envelope. "It's amazing isn't it" she showed Peter the pictures.
"It really is" Peter placed a kiss onto her cheek.
