As the blast of steam that had followed the light cleared, Izuku was revealed standing before Todoroki's glacier, which had a large hole in the center of it in front of Izuku.
Part of Izuku's left arm, from his thumb up to just before his elbow, was ablaze with bright white flames, leaping about a foot off the metal below.
"Magnesium burns at up to 3.1 thousand degrees Celsius, Todoroki. That's well enough to vaporize any ice you throw at me. You're going to need to use your fire if you want to beat me!" Izuku started walking towards Todoroki, who grit his teeth and threw another wave of ice towards Izuku.
With a wave of Izuku's hand, the fire leapt forwards and reduced the ice before him to vapor. Izuku's hand remained in the same position, however, since all the cells in the magnesium had been entirely destroyed by the heat when he ignited it. The tungsten shielding and the sheer cold of the antarcticite reaching up from his ring finger were doubling down to make sure that the heat didn't affect the rest of his arm, or else he'd lose control of the arm, and by connection, the fire.
Izuku rushed towards his opponent, smacking his right fist onto his chest before pushing his palm into Todoroki's chest, his left arm up to keep Todoroki from trying to stop him. Todoroki flew backwards, but caught himself on some ice he quickly created behind him.
"I will never use my father's power, no matter what!" Todoroki yelled as he sent wave after wave of ice towards Izuku, his body slowly succumbing to the grip of frostbite as he overused his powers.
"Todoroki, are you your father?" Izuku asked, emerging from the steam unscathed. Silence met his question, so he continued. "You aren't your father, so it's not his power! It's your power, so USE IT ALREADY!"
Todoroki was shocked, and remembered a time long before, when his mother had told him something similar, that he could be the kind of hero he wanted to be, not the kind his father wanted him to be. Flames sprung up from Todoroki's left side, melting the ice covering his right.
"Thank you for finally taking this seriously, Todoroki!" Izuku called as he powered up his own fire and ice, preparing to blast them towards his opponent.
"No... thank you, Midoriya," Todoroki responded, as the two of them launched their final attacks at each other. Cementoss and Midnight realized they were about to go way too far, and tried using their quirks to prevent them, with Cementoss specifically putting up a dozen concrete barriers between the two boys, but it was a futile effort.
The clashing of all the immensely different temperatures caused the center of the arena to go under thermal shock, creating a massive explosion that blew both the students backwards.
Izuku felt the core in his back begin to slow him down without his input, before he came to a full stop in the air. He found the fact that it could even do such a thing, much less of its own volition, odd, but he chose to worry about that later. Now was as good a time as any for the next reveal.
The dust from the explosion slowly settled, revealing the aftermath of the battle. Todoroki was still in the ring, having once more caught himself on his ice, although he was slumped over and leaning against it for support.
Izuku, on the other hand, was floating in the air quite a ways away from Todoroki, his fire extinguished, and the panels on his arm once more covering the materials below. The back of his shirt had ripped open to reveal the core in his back. On either side of the core was a clear crystal wing, with the feathers comprised of the crystals that had been used against Momo earlier, and leading down from it was a two foot long tail formed from interlocking crystals, ending at a much larger crystal with a sharpened point.
Izuku flew down to his opponent and checked on him for a moment.
"He's unconscious!" Izuku called out, picking up Todoroki to carry him to Recovery Girl. It took Midnight a few moments of shock before she called the match.
"...T-The winner by knockout is... IZUKU MIDORIYA!" she yelled, finding her confidence once more partway through the statement. The audience was still silent after witnessing such an intense display of power.
After a long intermission while Cementoss repaired what was left of the arena, Kacchan and Iida faced off against each other to decide who would face Izuku in the finals. Iida fought admirably, and his speed was more than enough to overwhelm Kacchan's own, but Kacchan had more maneuverability due to his Blast Rush Turbo, and that, paired with Iida still not fully being recovered after the fight with Stain, lost the runner the match.
Izuku faced down his childhood friend in the final match of the Sports Festival. Kacchan grinned and raised his palms up in what might have been considered a gesture of peace, if not for the explosions popping off in his hands.
"No holding back, you hear that Deku? Come at me with everything you've got!" Izuku grinned and held up his left hand in a similar manner.
"The same goes for you, Kacchan! Let's show everyone watching what we're really capable of!" As Izuku called this out, Kacchan's face changed as he saw what had just happened. In Izuku's palm, small pops and cracks of explosions were setting off, just like his own power.
The second Midnight called the start of the match, Kacchan launched himself forward, rushing to meet Izuku head on.
