AN/ Not much to say, couldn't write yesterday but enjoy this early one!
The end of this chapter makes a reference to something that happened prior to this story but NOT on actual GH. The next chapter will be a flashback scene of that. Will probs be other flashbacks from that too. This chapters a tiny bit short but I couldn't fit the flashback into this chapter as well as this.
Review, Fave, Enjoy!
_ end of AN _
"Nikolas," Liz says as she sees him turn the corner, both of them headed for the same place. "I hope you got some rest and some food."
"I ate a little but I couldn't sleep much, too much on my mind obviously," he said sounded less tired physically but still tired mentally.
"I was just going in to check on her wound, clean it, and put new bandages on." She told him as they both stood in front of the door.
"Well, I don't have to wait to go in still, right?" He asked. He felt he had waited long enough.
"Because of what I'm doing? No." Liz told him. "The reason you shouldn't be going in because you aren't her husband."
Nik immediately shushed her and looked to make sure nobody heard her.
"I didn't say anything because you were in shock and upset last night but Nikolas knowingly let you go in there when you aren't family is against the rules, I could get in so much trouble." She explained to him, her hand resting on her protruding tummy.
"Elizabeth, you aren't serious," He said feeling himself start to panic. She was behind that door, so close to him. He couldn't be kept out here. The feeling made him feel trapped, not on the inside but on the outside. "I have to be with her!"
Liz took a deep breath. "I didn't think you were gonna care this much."
"I wasn't supposed to care about my wife-" He stopped himself, knowing Liz knew better and feeling all the worry overwhelm him. Despite it, all Ava was his wife in his mind, a hundred percent. But that didn't matter here.
"I worded that poorly," Liz admits seeing him trying to compose himself. "Of course you should care, we all care, even me. But you are just acting so different than I thought, I've never seen you like this before with Ava, not this sincere."
He wasn't. Not to Liz's face, not to anyone's but Ava's. She was sincere to him he hoped, knowing how upset she was how could she not have been? To feel so betrayed if she was playing him as well would be silly, and Ava didn't do silly.
"Liz, I have to see her." He told her simply.
"Nikolas-" She spoke wavering, so torn up on what to do.
"Nobody but you, Ava and Hayden know we aren't married." He explained. "Nobody has to know and if they do I promise I won't tell anyone you knew, Hayden won't either."
"Okay fine," She sighed.
He sighed as well, his in pure relief.
He opened the door to her room and walked inside, Liz behind him. He wasn't sure what to expect, he just wanted something different. But there she laid, still, silent, the same as she was when he left. They say no news is good news but his heart still dropped, not seeing her awake. She could yell at him too even, he'd let her. He wanted something, instead, he found himself in the same chair hearing the same machines.
Liz worked on what she came to do silently, neither saying a word until Liz spoke up.
"When did you start to care about Ava so much?" Liz asked. She avoided the 'L' word, knowing Nik wasn't ready to say that out loud, not sure he said it to himself. She even wondered if it really was love or something else. Either way, she knew he cared, and he couldn't deny it.
"Remember when we were all in Europe? Looking for Hayden?"
She gave an understanding nod waiting for him to continue.
"Well if you don't count the time Ava and I spent years ago, then that's where it started."
