Y : Young God - Halsey

But do you feel like a young god?
You know the two of us are just young gods
And we'll be flying through the streets with the people underneath
And they're running, running, running
But do you feel like a young god?
You know the two of us are just young gods
And we'll be flying through the streets with the people underneath
And they're running, running, running again
Clarissa Morgenstern was brought up in a world of perfect suits and thousand dollar gowns and penthouse suites and top of the line electronics and people who washed her clothes and styled her hair. Her mother had died when she was young and she had next to no memory of her, but from the small things she had heard from her older brother and her grandmother, her mother had been the free spirit that had managed to tease a little life out of Valentine Morgenstern in their short years together. After she had died, he had become even more uptight than he had been before, throwing everything into growing his hotel business which was widely expanding over the country.
Clary never really knew fun.
She never really knew love.
She never really knew freedom.
She was in boarding school throughout the week where she received the best education from tight lipped nuns who knew nothing of compassion and empathy. In the weekends, she was expected to go to social events and dinners with her father, acting out the part of the perfect daughter even though they were nothing more than people who happened to exist in the same apartment from time to time.
When Clary was seventeen, she snuck out of the penthouse apartment that they were staying in in her fathers newest hotel purchase. It hadn't been particularly hard because her father was out with a crowd of his associates and her brother hadn't been around in years. A band that she had discovered while late night trolling the internet was playing at a nearby bar and she wanted to see them.
That was when she met Jace Herondale.
And Magnus Bane.
And Alexander and Isabelle Lightwood.
And her whole life changed.
It felt as though she had been walking through life in this half awake, foggy state and when she met them, they woke her up and opened her eyes and made her see colour for the first time in her life.
Clary managed to keep herself in check until she graduated, but she didn't apply to any of the colleges that her father threw around and whenever she spoke with Jonathan Morgenstern, she didn't answer the question, changing the subject. Because the day after she graduated, she packed up a small bag and moved out of penthouse and into a house that was supposedly two bedroomed with a lounge, adjoined kitchen and a bathroom, but could actually fit into the whole living room area of the suites and penthouses that Clary had grown up in.
And that was when it felt as though her life was starting for the first time.
Jace and his friends and family...They had this whole other outlook on life.
Unlike her father, who lived to work, they worked to live.
They didn't have much, just enough to get by, but they were all the happiest people that Clary had ever met.
Jace worked part time at a bar with a girl, Maia Roberts, who Isabelle dated on and off. Isabelle made jewelry and worked a few shifts a week at a cafe. Magnus was a fully qualified make up artist who pick and chose his appointments. Alec worked three days a week as a life guard at a water park.
None of them were flash jobs that gave them a lot of nice things and a cushy savings account, but they didn't care. They had everything they needed to get by and Clary had never been with people who were more comfortable and secure with the life they had. Even all of the people that she had met as she was growing up, who had more money and possessions than they ever needed, and yet none of them were as happy as Jace and his friends and family.
So she got a job with Isabelle at the cafe and the rest of her time, she spent with the new family that she had found.
Magnus dyed her hair, changing it from the orangey-red that it had always been to a dark red with black undertones cutting it a lot shorter than she had ever done before. Maia and Isabelle helped her find a new style, her own style, rather than just the clothes that were brought by a personal shopper from the latest fashion line.
It turned out that she really liked colour. Bright shirts and ripped jeans with fluro stitching. Band tee-shirts that she sewed badges onto. Big bows wrapped up in her hair and multiple bracelets up her arms, clanking together and chiming whenever she moved. She also liked glitter—something that made Alec roll his eyes and Magnus squeal in delight—and so her and Magnus had a habit of leaving glitter in their wake, wherever they went.
They drank to the point where they had hangovers the next day, and then slept until after midday.
They woke up at ridiculous hours of the morning to go to the beach and watch the sunrise over the ocean.
They snuck into overcrowded clubs and found terrible spots to watch their favourite bands play live.
They got impulsive piercings that maybe she would regret later on in life but that she absolutely adored now.
They went to bonfire parties on the beach that ended up with them running for the dunes when the police came to break them up.
They were invincible when they were together, running and laughing through the sand, screaming out songs that were playing through the shitty radio in Magnus' run down car.
Clary fell in love—over and over and over again. She fell in love with Jace. She fell in love with Isabelle and Alec and Magnus and the friends that were more family than hers ever was. She fell in love with art and music and books. She fell in love with the ocean and the way that it sounded in the middle of the night when she was standing there under the moonlight. She fell in love with that invincible feeling that she got, living the way she wanted to. She fell in love with life.
And most importantly, she fell in love with herself.
I hope you guys are all staying safe and well. Let me know what you thought of the chapter, and if you've got any recomendations for movies, TV shows or music, then let me know! My latest comfort watch movie wise was When Marnie Was Here...This made me really happy, although I definitely cried. I've recently started watching the original version of Charmed and also Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, which are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum but hey. Lol. My top songs at the moment are;
1) like crazy - Aidan, Thomas Reid and cozyboy. 2) Middle of the Night - Amy Shark. 3) I Need U - BTS. 4) Must Have Been The Wind - Alec Benjamin. 5) Too Sad To Cry - Sasha Sloan. 6) Cypher Pt 4 - BTS. 7) Wish I Was Better - Kina and yaeow. 8) Never Had A Dream Come True - S Club 7 (lol, clearly feeling some old vibes in here). 9) Womans World - Little Mix. 10) What Do You Think? - Agust D
