No-one's POV

The hospital was in sight as Humphrey, within the law, raced his vehicle to the entrance. With a crying Charlotte in the passenger seat and a friend that could very much be on the brink of death, he wasn't taking any chances, going as fast as the speed limit could take them. After navigating a double roundabout, he pulled the BMW into the main entrance of the parking lot, finding a spot near the entrance, which was lucky.

Not a word was spoken between Charlotte and Humphrey as they exited the vehicle, and Charlotte starting crossing the parking lot briskly as Humphrey locked the car. He quickly caught up to her as they made their way into the building. The reception area was all but full, with very little people waiting and many open seats waiting for an occupant. Charlotte was still crying, but definitely not to the extent of what she was doing earlier. They stopped at the reception desk as an older lady looked over with an emotionless face.

"What seems to be the issue today?" She asked in a monotone voice. Humphrey was about to speak until Charlotte cut him off abruptly with an attempted shout that fell short into a voice crack.

"Where's my boyfriend?!" Charlotte asked as she started sobbing loudly again. Humphrey couldn't blame her for having an episode. He just sighed as he started to speak.

"Liam Jackson. Is there a Liam Jackson here?" He asked, Charlotte now crying onto his shoulder, creating a wet spot on Humphrey's jacket. The receptionist typed around on her computer before turning back to the brother and sister.

"Liam Jackson is in room 27B, just down that hallway there," She said, pointing to a hallway to the right of the desk, the sign next the doorway saying "INTENSIVE CARE."

"Thank you," Humphrey said, turning towards the double doors, pulling Charlotte with him as they entered through. They walked down the hall silently, Charlotte now lightly crying as Humphrey read the room numbers, counting in his head. '19B, 20B, 21B...' Eventually stumbling on 27B. He took in a deep breath, knocking on the door lightly.

"Come in," a muffled voice said, to which he obliged, sighing heavily as he pushed the door open.

One Week Later

The door swung open, one of the rooms occupants looking up at Humphrey and Charlotte with exhausted eyes.

"Hey Ethan," Humphrey said, to which Ethan nodded his greeting, "Anything new today?"

"I'm afraid not. Still alive. Not awake," He said, sighing. Liam had shown no signs of waking up since their first encounter with him in this room.

Flashback to First Visit in Humphrey's POV

I opened the door to reveal two people in the room; one standing and one laying. To the left of the bed was a young adult in some car dealership uniform. I assumed him to be Liam's brother. I turned my eyes towards the centre of them room where the occupied bed sat. The occupant looked like someone who had a rough bump with Death himself. His arm was wrapped in a thick cast, his leg having similar fashion choice. His other arm had a bandage wrapped around it, assuming there to be a wound of some sort underneath. His eye and lip were heavily bruised, and to top it all off, he had more bandages wrapped around his head, covering any hair he had. I could only assume the kind of injuries he would have underneath his clothing. He was clearly in no good condition.

"Oh my god..." Charlotte said silently, coming from my side and migrating to the right of Liam's bed. I followed suit, taking a seat next to her. Charlotte gripped his hand, seeming like she was almost expecting a response from him. Tears were quite clearly streaming down her face as she held his lifeless hand tightly.

Reality in No-one's POV

Humphrey and Charlotte took their usual seats next Liam's bed. The week had been very exhausting for everyone in the room. Many tears were shed and there will probably be many more if Liam wouldn't wake up in a timely fashion.

Soon after Humphrey and Charlotte's arrival, Lilly and Kate walked through the door. For the past week, the group had been trying to make daily visits to their unconscious friend, taking as much time as they could to stay. Kate and Lilly took a seat each in one of the few chairs available in the room. Visits were typically very silent, everyone exchanging only light small talk and the occasional hug or handshake. However, words didn't need to be spoken, as they felt time spent with their friend in need was enough.

During the week, Humphrey found himself waking up late at night to hear Charlotte knocking on his door, crying, asking if he could keep her company, to which he accepted. He knew that she needed someone to comfort her during these times, and with Liam unavailable in his current state, Humphrey knew that Charlotte would come to him often. Although some may consider it weird, Humphrey would allow Charlotte to stay in his room for the night when she felt she needed someone. Of course, being brother and sister, they would play plenty of pranks and jokes on each other, they would have their arguments, and they would have their times of not wanting to be around each other. However, when they needed each other, they would always be there for each other.

Lilly's POV

Sitting in the hospital room was depressing. Seeing one my closest friend in a bed looking like he is fighting to just live is disheartening on so many different levels. This week has been a terrible week to say the least. I would go as far as to say one of the worst I've experienced. It's been rather lonely without Liam around, if I'm being honest.

"Please wake up, Liam," I heard Charlotte say quietly as Humphrey wrapped an arm around her to comfort her, "We all need you. I need you," was all she could say before her eyes turned into waterfalls, "Even if it's only for a few seconds, please just wake up," she continued, crying her eyes out, pulling the sleeve of her sweater over her hand to wipe her cheeks dry. I watched as sadness overwhelmed me as well, the sight of a friend in such a state was almost unbearable. I watched as Charlotte abruptly looked up, tears still streaming down her face, "Liam?!" Charlotte almost shouted. Everyone just looked at her with confused looks. I looked down at Liam's hand that was held by Charlotte and... wait... no she isn't holding his hand. HE is holding her hand. I watched as his arm relaxed again and it went back to Charlotte gripping his hand.

"Oh my..." was all I could say before Charlotte started crying loudly while trying to speak.

"He just gripped my hand!" She basically shouted, her words bouncing off the linoleum floors and walls. At which point a doctor came into the room.

"Is everything okay in here?" the doctor said, as she slipped through the gap in between the door and the wall, closing the door behind her.

"He gripped my hand! Is that a good sign?!" Charlotte said, tears still rolling down her face.

"Calm down miss, there's no need to shout," the doctor said, doing some routine check-ups on his vitals, "It could just be muscle contractions or spasms. All we can do at the moment is wait and see what happe..." She said looking over to Liam as she slowly faded her sentence off into nothing. She looked back and forth between the monitor and him. She put her index and middle finger on his neck, keeping it there for a few seconds. She let go and immediately slammed on the emergency nurse button, causing mass confusion within the room, "I'm sorry guys, but you can't be in here at the moment," She said, ushering us all out with perfect timing, as a team of nurses entered as soon as we left. A long beep being sounded from the monitor confirmed her suspicions, "We have a code blue, not breathing," she said, putting two fingers on his neck again, "No pulse. Start chest compressions, NOW!" she said to one of the nurses as the door closed. We were forced to sit in waiting room with no idea as to what was happening. Or more importantly, if Liam was alive.
