Fifteen minutes later, the nurse came walking back into DJ's room pushing a crib in front of her.
"He passed his tests with flying colors," she announced. "Why don't you try feeding him?" she suggested.
"Henry, why don't you bring him to me?" DJ requested. Nodding, Henry got up and walked over to the crib and gently lifted his son into his arms.
"Hey there, buddy, let's go see your mama," Henry whispered. Adjusting her hospital gown, DJ took the baby and placed him at her breast. The baby began rooting around. After a moment or two he latched on, but seemed to struggle eating.
"I think I'm doing this wrong," DJ admitted looking down. Walking over, the nurse looked at how the baby was positioned and made a suggestion on how to adjust him. Once he was adjusted he began suckling eagerly.
"I'll leave you for now. If you need anything just push the call button. They'll come move you to your room in a few minutes," the nurse said, exiting the room.
XXXX
"He's absolutely perfect," Henry breathed as he stared at his child feeding.
"Yes, he is," DJ agreed, smiling broadly. A few minutes later the baby had finished eating and snuggled into his mother's arms. "You should go tell the others we have a baby and once they move us to our room they can come see us." Nodding Henry left to go tell the family that the newest member had arrived.
XXXX
"Garcia was the first to spot the tired but beaming young man enter the room.
"Do we have a baby yet?" she asked eagerly. Henry nodded the smile never leaving his face.
"Yes we do, and he's absolutely perfect, he did well on all his newborn tests. DJ said once they move them to her room you all can go see him."
"Congratulations, son, welcome to the most exciting yet terrifying time in your life, parenthood," Will said clapping his son on the shoulder.
"Uh, thanks, Dad, I think. I need to get back to them, but I'll make sure to come and get you when she and the baby are settled," Henry promised as he turned and headed for the hallway. A question from his mother stopped him in his tracks.
"Does he have a name yet?" she wondered.
"Yes, but DJ wants to tell everyone all at once along with the specifics on his measurements and such," he explained as he gave them a wave and headed back to be with his girlfriend and their baby boy.
XXXX
"Everyone can't wait to see him," the new father stated as he entered the room and took his place next to his girlfriend and their sleeping son.
"The nurse said someone would be here to move us in about five minutes. They said he had to be in his crib for that. You want to put him in the crib for me?" the tired but extremely elated mother requested.
"Sure thing, sweetheart, I love you both so much," Henry declared as he kissed first DJ's cheek then the babies cheek as he carefully placed him in the hospital crib.
"We love you both so much as well," DJ replied through a yawn. As promised, five minutes later a couple of orderly's came to move DJ and the baby into the room where they'd stay for the rest of their hospital stay.
"If you want to send him to the nursery at any time just let the nurse know," one of the orderlies instructed as she matched the hospital bracelet of DJ to the one on the babies tiny ankle, confirming a match. DJ nodded as she closed her eyes for a brief nap so she would be a bit more rested to greet their excited family and show off their new addition.
XXXX
"Jareau-LaMontagne and Reid-Morgan families?" called out a nurse as she scanned the waiting room in the labor and delivery ward. Everyone in the room stood up, startling the young woman slightly.
"We're DJ's parents," Morgan said pointing to himself, Reid, and Garcia.
"And we're Henry's," JJ said pointing to herself and Will.
"These are all their siblings and aunt's and uncle's" Reid explained.
"Well normally there's a rule of no more than four at a time, but if you all promise to be quiet and not disturb our other visitors and families I'll allow all of you to go back so long as you keep your visit short then come back and visit in smaller groups," the nurse whose nametag read Melanie requested.
"We can certainly do that," Hotch assured, speaking for the entire group.
"Very well then, she is in room 335, it's the third one on the left," the nurse said pointing down the hall. Nodding the large group got up and headed down the hall eager to meet the newest baby in their crazy family.
XXXX
"Knock-knock, can we come in?" came Garcia's soft voice.
"Sure come on in," DJ called out. She sounded exhausted but happy. As quietly as they could, everyone filed into the room and stared at the baby in his father's arms.
"Oh Deej, he's beautiful," JJ gasped as she laid eyes on her grandson for the first time. Everyone else nodded in agreement.
"Thanks, so who wants to hold him first?" DJ wondered. Garcia raised her hand and began bouncing on her feet.
"Looks like we have a winner, here you go, Grandma," Henry said as he stood up and after telling Garcia to take his seat, he placed the tiny newborn in his godmother's arms.
"Hi there, sweetie, your daddy's right, I'm your Grandma, but I don't like that title, so how about you call me Nana instead?" Garcia suggested. The baby opened his eyes and stared into Garcia's capturing her heart instantly. Reaching out she placed her finger in his hand and the little boy immediately grasped it and held on tight. Grandma JJ was the next to hold the baby before the grandfather's took a turn, then it was time for all the siblings to hold him.
"So what's his name," Nate asked as he held his nephew. He was last to hold him. He'd been helping DJ get some water and spending a little bonding time with his twin.
"Everyone, DJ and I would like you to meet Chase Spencer LaMontagne weighing eight pounds, three ounces and 20 inches long," Henry said beaming at his family. DJ smiled as she tried to hide a yawn.
"We should go and let the three of you get some rest," Emily suggested kissing her niece on the head.
"Okay, but first, Nate, Lisa, we have something to ask you," DJ said stopping her twin brother and his girlfriend in their tracks.
"What is it, DJ?" Lisa questioned.
"Henry and I were wondering if you'd be Chase's godparents? You know take care of him if something happens to us?" she explained. A beat of silence stretched through the group while Nate and Lisa looked at each other.
"We'd be honored to do that," Nate answered.
"Yes we would, I love you guys so much," Lisa said wiping tears of joy away before hugging her brother, DJ, and kissing her nephew/godson on the forehead. Everyone smiled as they bid the new parents goodbye and assured they'd all be back in the morning.
XXXX
"What a day, huh?" Henry whispered as he settled next to DJ careful not to jostle the baby once again eating.
"Yes, but I wouldn't change it for anything in the world," DJ said as a wide yawn split her sentence.
"How about we let them take Chase to the nursery for a few hours so you can get some sleep?" he suggested.
"But I don't want him out of my sight," DJ protested. "What if he needs me?" she asked tears beginning to fall.
"Shh, it's okay, don't cry, sweetheart. They don't have to take him if you don't want. It's just that I thought you might sleep a bit better if someone else was able to take care of him until his next feeding. I'll make sure they bring him back for that, then if you want he can stay in our room after that," Henry compromised. DJ nodded, she could agree with that. Reaching out she pressed the call button and waited for someone to answer.
"Yes, how can I help you?" came a nurse's voice.
"I want to send my son Chase LaMontagne to the nursery for a little while, please," DJ answered.
"Of course, we'll have someone come get him soon," the nurse assured.
"Okay, thank you," replied DJ. True to her word, a nurse knocked on the door a couple minutes later. After confirming the bracelets matched she placed Chase into his crib after letting the parents tell him goodnight.
"I want him brought back to me when he needs his next feeding, please," DJ explained.
"We'll definitely do that, then you can let us know if you want him back in the nursery or to keep him in here," she said as she wheeled the crib out of the room and headed for the nursery with the sleeping baby. Back in DJ's room, Henry had gotten settled on the pull-out recliner the hospital provided and the two of them drifted off for what little sleep they would get before their son was brought back needing his next meal.
