Alex's P.O.V

My brothers and I went to Elena's since Rebekah attacked her last night. Which I didn't understand, but apparently it was a way to get back at Klaus, to make sure he would be alone forever. But Elijah saved her like the hero he is. We were currently in the kitchen talking about what Elijah said to her. Stefan was leaning against the counter I was sitting upon, and Damon was sitting on top of their dining room table.

"It was their mother, Esther who was sealed in that coffin," Elena said as she put some cleaning supplies away in the cabinet. Something else happened last night, other than that weird-ass dinner party, is that the person who has been stabbing Council members got to Alaric. He's in the hospital, but it happened in Elena's house and there was a lot of blood to clean up.

"As in the Original Witch?" I asked and she nodded.

"What? How is she even alive?" Damon asked. "Thought her hybrid freak show of a son ripped her heart out a thousand years ago," Damon said not believing what Elijah told Elena, but I highly doubt he would lie about his mother coming back to life.

"I don't know. I'm guessing she has a couple of connections in the witching community. Elijah said that she wants to live in peace with her family, including Klaus," Elena said.

"She was supposed to be the weapon to help us kill Klaus," Stefan said as he looked at all of us.

"Well, not anymore, at least not according to Elijah," I said to them and Stefan still seemed angry.

"That coffin was the only thing stopping Klaus from tearing us to shreds," Stefan stated as he moved to the other side of the room.

"Anyone else feeling a little used right now?" Damon asked and I nodded slightly.

"Look, Elijah promised me that his family wouldn't hurt any of us," Elena said and her doorbell rang. "I believe him."

Elena went to answer the door and I hopped off the counter as my brothers followed her. We walked out of the kitchen and I saw Elena walk back in with a letter in her hand. She closed the door to see us in the lobby behind her.

"What is it?" Damon asked her. She opened the envelope and removed a card.

Elena said, "It's an invitation. " Please join the Mikaelson Family, this evening at seven o'clock. For dancing, cocktails, and celebration. "

"Who the hell are the Mikaelsons?" Stefan asked and I rolled my eyes at their stupidity.

"The Original Family," I said to him. "You know Mikaelson? As in son of Mikeal, the all killing vampire hunter."

"It's not bad enough they're moving into town, now they want a housewarming gift?" Damon asked us.

Elena turned the card over. "Wait, there's a note on the back," she said. "Elena, I think it's time that we finally meet, Esther." She thought about it for a moment, "If Esther wants to talk to me, maybe I should find out why."

"Well that's a dumb idea, she already tried to kill you once," Damon said and I walked over to Elena's side, which caused both of my brothers to look at me confused.

"Elena has a point, plus it's her decision," I said siding with Elena.

"She's not going," Damon snapped back.

"No, Alex is right," Stefan said. "Bonnie was led to open that coffin for a reason. I think there is more to this than just some family reunion."

"Can we go back in time where the old Stefan cared if Elena lived or died?" Damon asked him.

"What for? It's your job now," Stefan said. They both stared at each other and I rolled my eyes again.

"Oh stop it you two," I groaned which made them look at me. "It's not up to you, it's up to Elena," I snapped. "If she wants to go, she can go."

"She can't protect yourself," Damon said. You do realize she is in the room?!

"Fine, if you want to protect her so much, then I'll go with her as her bodyguard," I told them.

"You're not going," Damon stated. "We don't need you anywhere near Klaus."

"Screw you, Damon. I can go to a party if I want to," I told him.

"Neither of you are going tonight, Alex, and that's final," Damon said. "I'm going," Damon snatched the invitation out of Elena's hand.

"Hey!" Elena yelled at him.

"End of story," He said to all three of us.

~At the Boarding House~

I came home after Damon practically banned me from going to Mikaelson's ball. I already decided in my head that I was going no matter what, just to spite Damon. Though now this means I have to find a nice dress.

I walked into my room and saw a brown box with a white ribbon and a note on top. I looked down at the letter, with my name written beautifully across the front of it, and picked it up. I opened it up and saw it was an invitation to the Mikaelson ball. I turned the invitation over and saw ' Save me a dance, Alexandria. - Klaus ' on the back.

"Really?" I asked then threw the invitation on my bed. I opened up the box and saw a beautiful ball gown. When the fuck does he, of all people, find the time to go dress shopping?

I walked over to my closet and looked through my dresses. I groaned after a while. I have the shoes for this event, but not the dress. I didn't want to wear Klaus' dress cause if I did then he would think I like him or some shit like that. But in the end, I turned around and pulled out the dress from the box, since it's the only thing I had.

~At the Mikaelson Manor~

I got out of my car wearing the dress Klaus gave me, considering how I had nothing else to wear. I walked towards the grand doors and two people opened them on the other side. I looked around, taking in how big his house was. The entire place looked elegant from top to bottom. There were waitress and waiters carrying trays of champagne and food.

I walked into the house a bit more and felt a presence behind me. I turned to see Stefan standing there. "Hello, Alex. I thought Damon banned you from coming here?"

"I did," I turned to see Damon. Now I was standing in between my brothers. Damon looked at me angrily. "I told you no."

"Yeah, and last I check I'm not 5-years-old," I told him. Damon then looked down at my dress confused.

"Where did you get the dress?" Damon asked.

"My closet," I lied. "Where else would I get it from?" I asked him.

"Klaus maybe, considering how he has sent you a dress before," Damon said and walked closer to me.

"Well, he didn't," I lied again. "Now if you'll excuse me. I'm going to get a drink," I told them and walked off.

I rounded the corner and saw the bar, which made me smile a bit, but I also noticed Klaus flirting with a woman at a table in front of the bar. I guess I don't need a drink after all. Klaus noticed me and excused himself from the woman before walking up to me. He was in a black and white suit with a white bowtie. He took in my appearance and smirked at me.

"Hello, love," Klaus greeted. "You look stunning," Klaus said, looking me up and down.

"I need a drink," I said and walked past him, as he continued to stare at me.

I walked up to the bar and saw Victor standing at the bar with a champagne glass in his hand. I smiled and stood next to him. "Do you know where I can get one of those?" I asked him playfully and he turned to me with a smile.

"As a matter a fact I do," He answered and grabbed a glass from one of the waiters walking by us. He handed it to me and I took it with a smile before we clicked glass and took a sip of our drinks. "You look beautiful by the way," He complimented.

"Well thank you, you don't look too bad yourself," I told him, and we chuckled. "Is Daniel here tonight?" I asked him, and Victor shook his head.

"Fancy parties aren't really his thing," Victor answered. We heard someone clinking their glass and followed the noise.

The Mikaelson family stood on the staircase as Elijah began to speak, "Uh, if everyone could gather, please." I saw my brothers in the crowd and decided to stay by Victor, not really wanting to deal with them. I looked up and saw Klaus staring at Victor and me. He didn't seem happy, and if I knew any better I would say he seemed jealous.

"Welcome, thank you for joining us," Elijah began. "You know, whenever my mother brings our family together like this, it's a tradition for us to commence the evening with a dance," Elijah said to everybody. I looked further up the staircase and saw her, the women from my dream. That was Klaus's mother? I didn't realize it, but I had visibly tensed up at the sight of her. Elijah's voice was the only thing that broke me out of my trance. "Tonight's pick is a centuries-old waltz, so if all of you could please find yourselves a partner, please join us in the ballroom." Elijah then made his way down the staircase with the rest of his family.

Victor turned to me and placed our glasses down on a nearby table. "Considering how your the only person I know here, other than Klaus and your little brother," He told me as he held out his hand. "Care to dance?" He asked and I smiled.

"Why I would love too," I told him and he leads me to the ballroom. We got into place when I noticed Damon was dancing with Elena, and Stefan was dancing with Carol Lockwood. I looked around the room and saw Matt dancing with Rebekah, and Klaus dancing with the woman he was talking to earlier.

We started the waltz, we were walking around in a circle and our arms overlapped each other. Victor was leading and we turned to the center of the ballroom, where Stefan and I looked at each other. He seemed about as happy as Klaus was when he noticed Victor. I chose to ignore him as the two of us walked to the other side of the dance floor. Victor twirled me around and we started to dance in a circle with everyone else.

"You are quite the dancer," I laughed.

"Well, you pick up a few things after 300 years," He smiled and I hummed. After a few moments, Victor twirled me around and I landed into the arms of the person I was hoping to avoid. Klaus.

We started to dance before he spoke up, "I'm glad you came." I gave him a civilized smile.

"Well, this seemed like a better option than sitting at home, alone," I told him.

"You and Victor seem to be getting along quite well," Klaus said, and I looked up at him. Are you seriously bringing this up now?

"Don't," I snapped. "We don't need to make a scene just because I didn't dance with you first," I told him.

"Well, I was the one who invited you," Klaus said. "But if you wish not to talk about it, we'll move on to more mannered subjects then, like how ravishing you look in that dress," Klaus said while looking down at my outfit again.

"I didn't exactly have time to shop," I told him. "I didn't even think I was coming."

"And why's that?" Klaus asked.

"I don't really like these formal things. But I realized my brothers might cause trouble and they need someone there to stop them," I lied.

"Now I doubt that," Klaus said and the music ended. We bowed to each other before I turned on my heel and walked outside. I needed some fresh air and decided to sit on a little bench outside of his house.

I began to think about my dream again, which is something I wish I could forget sometimes. But with the revelation of Klaus' mother began the women who trapped me in that burning car, it only made me have more questions. Why would Klaus' mother want me dead? I mean she's never met me. The door that led outside opened and I turned to see Damon walking out. He saw me sitting outside, alone.

"Hey, what are you doing out here?" Damon asked as he walked over to me. "The party's inside."

"Thinking," I answered and then gave him a false smile. "Who are you looking for?" I asked him.

"Elena disappeared and I want to make sure she didn't go off and talk to Esther," Damon explained. I looked away from him, then chuckled a bit.

"Yeah, I don't think you guys should trust her," I said to him. Damon moved closer to me and sat down on the bench, to my right side.

"Why's that? Earlier today you said Elena should go talk to her," Damon said.

"I didn't say that," I looked at him. "I just said it's Elena's choice if she wanted to. It was Stefan who wanted her to find out what Esther wanted," I explained.

"But something about Esther still bothers you, I can tell," Damon said as he leaned back against the bench.

"Ok, fine," I admitted. "I haven't told anybody this, but considering how you're the only person I trust right now, with Stefan begin in a reckless state, I'll tell you." I turned a bit towards him and leaned back on the arm of the bench. "The day the ghost all came back, you remember how I went missing that morning?" I asked, and he nodded.

"Well, I had a nightmare. I was trapped inside a burning car and Klaus was in the driver's seat next to me, but he didn't look like himself. His face was burnt away, he had long blonde hair, wore tunic sort of clothing, and had a stab wound through his chest. Klaus looked innocent, he looked human. Now, I would later find out that the stab wound was how he died when he was human. But as for me in the dream, well I was in the clothes I wore when dad shot me and I had a bloodstain on my forehead because I had been shot in the head when I was human.

"In the dream, I turned to the car door and tried to get out, since I was choking on the smoke from the fire when I notice a woman standing outside of the car. She seemed to be chanting a spell and then she suddenly put her hand towards us and said "I'm sorry dear, but the bond must be destroyed." But I never knew who she was until I saw Esther tonight and realized it was her," I explained.

Damon stayed silent for a while as he thought over the dream I had told him about. I started twiddling my thumbs worried that he just thought I was being paranoid. "I wouldn't worry about it," Damon said and stood up. I looked at him shocked as he straightens his blazer. I guess I was right. "Hey, tell me if you see Elena," He mentioned before walking back inside the party.

How could he just brush me off like that? I thought he would be more concerned that both Klaus and his mother were in my dream, but apparently not. All he wants to do is find Elena and control her life. I sighed as I stood up. I walked around the outside of the house and stood in front of the lake in the backyard.

"I was wondering where you went?" I heard someone ask me. I turned around to see Klaus, and once I saw him, I turned back to the lake. Klaus walked up next to me and stood beside me.

"Why did you invite me here?" I asked him.

"I fancy you. Is that so hard to believe?" Klaus asked, and I turned to him.

"No,"' I said. "That part was obvious. But why do you keep fighting for me? I'm the sister of your enemies for god's sake."

"Why does that matter?" Klaus asked me, and I looked at him. "You're beautiful; you're strong, smart, and not to mention fearless. I enjoy you," He said and then held his hand out to me. "Come on; I want to show you something."

I hesitated at first but took his hand not wanting to return to the party. Klaus lead me through a back door that went into the kitchen. It was full of chefs and waiters coming in and out as we walked through. Klaus then leads me up a flight of stairs and into a dark room. When he turned on a light, I realized we were in the place I had found last night. The portrait of me was still in the middle of the room, and it looked finished.

Pretending as if I had never seen this room before I asked, "What's all this?" I turned to see him looking down at his feet, almost nervous, as he walked up to me.

"This is a hobby of mine," He said.

"You did all of this?" I asked him and looked at the painting again.

"Do you like it?" He asked as he stood with his hands behind his back.

"It's amazing," I said and saw Klaus smile slightly out of the corner of my eye.

It's funny; usually, people would freak out that a psychopath has painted them for nearly a century. But Elijah's comment that Klaus had said to him rang in my head, ' She's the only woman ever to steal my heart completely. Trouble is she hasn't given it back to me yet. '

Maybe Klaus did care about me, and honestly, that terrified me completely. It had been so long since I had opened my heart to anyone. Not to mention Damon and Stefan would disown me if I ever fell for him. Then I thought of Esther. I thought of the dream and Klaus' dead body. I had to warn him, there was something inside me, screaming at me to warn him.

"Klaus?" I said, and honestly, it came out as a question.

"Yes, love?" He asked, and I turned to him.

"Don't trust your mother," I said to him, and I could tell I offended him, but he remanded very calmly.

"And why shouldn't I trust her?" He asked me. I didn't want to tell him about the dream. If I did, he would make a scene downstairs, and I didn't want that.

"Just don't ok?" I said in both a determined and kind voice, trying not to make him angry. But when I looked into his eyes, I could already tell that he was angry.

"You know, this has been a fun evening, but I think it's time for you to leave," Klaus said, and I looked down, getting frustrated with him, but not wanting to make him angrier than he already was.

"Fine," I said and looked him dead in the eye. I turned and began to walk out of the room as I said to him, "Don't blame me if you get killed."

I found Victor downstairs with everybody else as we gathered in the middle of the room. Esther stood at the top of the stairs while she looked down at us with a smile. A lying smile. Victor stood next to me and noticed my mood toward Esther.

"You don't like her?" He asked me, and I scoffed.

"That's one way to put it," I said.

"Well, I say let's stay for one more speech then leave," Victor suggested, and I nodded in agreement.

"The quicker I'm out of this house," I said and noticed Klaus in the front of the room. "The better." A waiter came by with two champagne glasses and Victor and I both took one.

Esther tapped the side of her glass, and everybody in the room looked up at her. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Waiters are coming round with champagne. I invite you all to join me in raising a glass." I looked around and saw Klaus take a glass. I looked behind me and saw Elijah and Elena, each with drinks in their hands. Victor looked at me confused.

"What's up with you?" He asked.

"Nothing," I answered quickly.

I then turned back to Esther when she spoke again, "It provides me with no greater joy than to see my family back together as one. I want to thank you all for being part of this spectacular evening." She raised her glass. "Cheers."

"Cheers." Everybody in the room repeated, except for me. There was something wrong about her; something wasn't right. Klaus looked behind me and watched as I drank my champagne with Victor. I could see the same sense of frustration behind his eyes as we gave our glasses to a waiter nearby. I turned to Victor.

"Let's go," I said, and we left.
