Chapter 40 - The Burger
"Hey guys, let's go get a burger for dinner," Dalton said. Finn, Dalton and Jahmene were sitting in the apartment, playing NHL on the PS4.
"Yeah, sure. Where do you want to go?" Jahmene asked.
"How about Burger King?" Finn suggested.
"Nah, it sucks," Dalton said.
"OK, McDonalds," Jahmene suggested.
"Nope, it's even worse." Finn said.
"Hardees?" Dalton suggested.
"No. That's also bad." Jahmene said. They sighed and looked at each other.
"This is pathetic. How can we not find a burger joint in the whole city to go to?" Dalton stated and Finn suddenly had an idea.
You're right. We can't find anywhere in the city to go to. But what if I told you that the best burger joint in the country is just a short car ride away?"
"How short?"
"Not much. Just to California." Finn murmured and the guys heard him.
"CALIFORNIA? ARE YOU NUTS?" Dalton cried.
"Just hear me out. We all have the next 5 days off. Why don't we make a road trip out of it?" Finn said.
Jahmene smiled. "Yes, YES. It's gonna be LEGEND… Wait for it… DARY. LEGENDARY! And I can vlog it for my channel"
"As much as I hate to agree with Jahmene," Finn said. "It is gonna be fun. So, Dalton. What do you say?"
Dalton smiled. "Let's do it."
They cheered and each packed a backpack with 3 sets of clothing. They then barged over to the other apartment, where Taylor and Ella were sitting and chatting.
"Hey guys, can we help you?" Taylor asked.
"Yeah, we were just wondering if you ladies could please feed Chick and Duck for the next couple of days? Taylor, you know how to, right?"
"Yeah, sure. Where are you going?"
"California. Well, bye then," Dalton said and the three guys started to run out the door.
"FREEZE," Ella shouted and they reluctantly turned around. "Why are you going to California?" She asked.
"A… a… bur… bur… ger." Jahmene coughed quietly, hoping that the girls couldn't hear him. However, they did.
"Hold on," Taylor laughed. "You're driving 100 hours to California and back, just to get a burger?"
"Well, yeah."
"Good luck with that!" She said. "Meanwhile, Ella and I will be here, like normal people."
"OK, see you guy soon," Finn said, and the boys all left the building, and into Dalton's minivan.
VLOG 1 - Wednesday, 8 pm
The guys had just started driving, and Dalton turned the vlog on.
"So guys," Dalton said, talking to the camera. He was sitting in the front passenger's seat "Would you rather drive five minutes for an average burger, or drive 50 hours there and 50 hours back and have a good burger? I think the answer's pretty simple."
"Hell, yeah. I'd ditch everything for a week for a burger." Finn shouted as he drove.
"YEAH! This is LEGENDARY!" Jahmene cried, from the back of the car. They all laughed and shouted loudly.
VLOG 2 - Wednesday, 11:30 pm
"It's been a couple hours, and we're at gas station stop number 1."
"Gotta get those Red Bulls!" Jahmene said.
"Yeah, we're feeling a bit tired. Hopefully we don't fall asleep and die. I'd rather see how many views the video gets. I mean it would probably get more views if I died, but I mean being alive would be nice.
VLOG 3 - Thursday, 4 am
Dalton, Finn and Jahmene had just arrived in Tennessee, and just drove past a "Welcome to Tennessee" sign.
"Hey, guys, guys. Tennessee. You're the only ten I see." Jahmene smirked and Finn and Dalton rolled their eyes.
"You try that on a woman, and you'll probably get neutered." Finn remarked and Dalton laughed. They parked at a gas station, but it hadn't yet opened as it was 4 in the morning.
"So guys," Dalton said to the camera. "We're now waiting for this gas station to open. It's 5 am and we need our Red Bull!" The gas station finally opened, and the guys departed again.
VLOG 4 - Thursday, 8 am
"Hey viewers," Jahmene said. "I'm so tired, I want to die."
Dalton turned the camera towards him. "While Jahmene naps, we are actually in Kentucky." Twenty minutes later, Finn parked the car and opened the back passenger door of the fan. Jahmene had folded the seat down, and was napping on the floor, with a Minecraft Creeper blanket and Creeper stuffed toy.
"Hey man, you ready to go to California?" Dalton shouted at his sleeping friend. Jahmene groaned and woke up.
"Hey, dude, leave me alone!"
"What is all this minecraft?" Finn asked in disbelief. "You're cuddling with a Creeper in your Minecraft bed. Me and Dalton are gonna give you too a minute." He winked at Jahmene and him and Dalton walked into a cafe to eat breakfast.
VLOG 5 - Thursday, 11 am
"We're back on the road. We're following the GPS and as you can see… " Finn held up his phone, which was displaying Google Maps, to the camera. "We have a day and four hours until we hit California. We've been on the road for 12 hours now. Fuck it, when we get there, I'm not just buying a burger. I'mma buy half the restaurant!"
VLOG 6 - Thursday, 3 pm
"So we were driving down the road, and we saw a tank." Jahmene said. "You guys don't know this, but I've been trying to get a tank for over a month. There's something I really, really want to try, and I've been calling literally everyone I can find who privately owns a tank, and offering them 10 grand to let me borrow it. Nobody said yes."
Just then, a man in a company uniform walked over to them.
"Hey, so uh can I buy one of those tanks?" Jahmene asked. "I kind of need it for a viral video." He had almost 30 million youtube subscribers, so his part time job - other than acting - was making youtube videos.
"Well, I don't think you could buy it," The guy replied. "Bt you could talk to the owner. See what he says."
"Yes, perfect!" Jahmene exclaimed.
VLOG 7 - Thursday, 5:30 pm
The guys had just arrived at the Gateway arch in St. Louis, and they parked the car and stepped out.
"Finn…" Jahmene said. "That's the portal the aliens are going to kill us." Finn rolled his eyes at Jahmene.
"Wow, look at that beautiful arch over there." Dalton said. Jahmene laughed.
"Honestly, I don't think the viewers care." Jahmene laughed.
"I think they would." Dalton said.
"Do you care? Do you guys really care?" Jahmene asked the camera. "See this arch right there, viewers? Do you care about this arch? Is this really that interesting?"
"I thought it was beautiful!" Dalton exclaimed.
"Idiot, Dalton. All of you viewers, comment down below and say 'Bad Dalton'!"
"FINE!" Dalton said, mock-huffily. "You're my ARCH-nemesis now! Get it?"
Finn sighed at his two friends' banter.
VLOG 8 - Thursday, 8 pm
"Fun story," Dalton said. "We were just eating at a Mexican restaurant and we left our camera there. This is camera number two!" They finally made it back to the restaurant ten minutes later and Jahmene grabbed the camera from the restaurant.
"WE FOUND THE CAMERA BOYS!" Jahmene shouted to the viewers. Finn pulled up next to the restaurant and Jahmene got back in the car.
"Get in, bro! We need to get to California!"
VLOG 9 - Thursday, 10:30 pm
"So we're in Kansas, and this is a burger not from In-n-Out!" Jahmene told the camera, and held up a McDonalds burger. He threw the burger and it splattered on the 'Welcome to Kansas' sign.
"Even the Kansas road sign doesn't like the burgers!" Dalton shouted and laughed.
"Guys, challenge!" Jahmene shouted. "Floss on the side of the highway until someone honks at you!"
They were currently on the hard shoulder of the highway, and walked a foot away from the white line. They all started flossing, and passing cars were astonished. Three relatively famou celebrities were dancing on the side of the road at the Kansas border! Finally, someone honked their horn at them, and they got back into the car, laughing.
VLOG 10 - Friday, 3:51 am
"Welcome to colorful Colorado!" Finn exclaimed. "I'd get out of the car, but it's currently 3:51 am." He turned the camera to Jahmene, who's car door was open while they were driving.
"Hey, Jah, what are you doing there buddy?" He asked.
"Just thinking about life, and how awesome I am!" He said.
"We're just going 70 miles an hour with your door open. Really convenient, man!"
"It feels good." Jahmene said. "I feel the wind."
VLOG 11 - Friday 9 am
"OK, it's been like 36 hours since we started. We're almost there. Let's go get some breakfast." Dalton said. Ten minutes later, they pulled up at a diner.
"Alright, we just pulled into Dennys. Finn drove us through the night. We're almost in California. Let's go get some breakfast!" Jahmene said. They got out of the car, and looked at the front of the car. There were so, so, so many bugs splattered all over the front bumper.
"Look how many bugs we murdered, as we've been crossing the country! Holy Crap!" Dalton pointed out.
VLOG 12 - Friday 2 pm
"So we just entered New Mexico, and we're about to do a random skit at the side of the road" Dalton said. Suddenly, Jahmene dropped the camera in surprise.
"You OK, man?" Finn asked.
"Look… look over there! Coyote!" He shouted.
"Oh, shit!" Dalton yelled. Jahmene grabbed the camera and the three men sprinted for the car. Dalton accidentally ran into a cactus halfway there and groaned in pain.
"OW! My leg is covered in Cactus! We were filming a skit on that mountain, and we saw a coyote. We started running, and I ran straight into a cactus!" Dalton told the camera. "It didn't feel good. I'm still pulling them out of my fucking leg. It kinda hurts!"
VLOG 13 - Friday 5 pm
"Finn, my brother, we've come a long way, but we're finally at the border of California. LET'S GO BABY! See guys, I told you this trip would be LEGENDARY!" Jahmene shouted and Finn and Dalton both groaned and laughed.
"We're in California - home to In-n-Out burger. This is the last non in-n-out burger I'm gonna touch!" Jahmene said, and threw a Hardee's burger at the 'Welcome to California' sign. Yet again, it splattered messily on the sign. Finn hoped to god that they weren't sued by the government after this video uploads to youtube.
VLOG 14 - Friday 8 pm
"So, Finn, where are we?" Dalton asked, yawning. He had just woken up from a short nap.
"WE'RE IN L.A BABY!" Jahmene shouted and the guys cheered.
"3000 miles for a burger. We're so stupid." Dalton laughed.
"NO! It's worth it! Always worth it!"
Ten minutes later, the drove into the in-n-out drive through.
"WE MADE IT!" Dalton screamed as they pulled up into the drive thru.
"Hi, can I take your order please?" The drive thru woman asked.
"Yeah, can I please have 3 double-cheeseburgers?" Dalton asked.
"And three for me as well." Jahmene said. They all laughed.
"And please, could you make the order as good as possible? We drove all the way from Manhattan, just for this burger. We've been driving for 2 days!"
The lady laughed. "Sure, you got it!"
Ten minutes later, they were digging into 9 double-cheeseburgers between the three of them, with a mountain of fries and a fountain of Diet Coke. However, they finished every last bite of the meal.
"THAT WAS SO WORTH IT!" Jahmene shouted. Finn raised an eyebrow.
"I agree with you, but do you have to shout everything?" Finn remarked. "Hey, you know what we should do?"
"What?" Dalton asked.
"We're like 20 minutes away from Louis' place. We should go say hi!"
"That's a great idea!" Dalton said and they drove off. Jahmene turned off the camera for the last time in the trip.
Five minutes later, they arrived at Louis' mansion at Beverly Hills. They rang his doorbell and banged on his door.
"LOUIS! LOUIS! LET US IN!" Dalton shouted as they banged on the door. A minute later, Louis came to the door, and his eyes widened when he saw who was there.
"FINN! DALTON! JAH! How's it going, guys?"
They spent most of the night catching up, and they ended up crashing at Louis' place that night. The next morning, they started the long drive home. They didn't vlog this part of the journey, so they literally just traded off sleep and drove for two days straight. Finally, they arrived home. It had been such a fun trip, and definitely one to remember.
