I'm not going for accuracy with this because I'm not completely sure who the military handles these things but I hope it still conveys the point. Again thanks for reading along will have another chapter up soon just have a little editing to do. As always comments are always welcomed.
The following morning Jane was awakened by laughter from the kitchen. As she makes her way downstairs she stops just short of the opening to the kitchen. She smiles to herself at the sight of her mother, wife, son and Harper. Maura has Ethan and is tickling and blowing raspberries on his stomach Ethan is just laughing away. Angela is sitting at the table playing checkers with Harper. "Oh you are good Harper!" "I can't believe you beat me again!" Angela says giving the little girl a big smile.
"What do we have going on here?" Jane ask with a smile walking over to her wife and son to give them both kisses. "Good morning beautiful." Jane says to Maura. "Good morning love". "We didn't wake you did we?" Maura ask concerned that they had woken Jane. "No, no you guys didn't wake me." Jane says giving Harper a wink who then giggles. "I have coffee made and Angela brought over fresh bagels." Maura says setting Ethan down to play with his toys. "You two are the best." Jane says between chews."
"Jane! Dont speak with your mouth full!." Her wife scolds, reminding her of her manners. Jane takes a minute to swallow. "Sorry Maur." "So miss Harper." Jane says sitting down at the table. "I hear you are reaallly good at checkers?" Jane ask giving her mother a grin while grabbing the sports section of the newspaper. "Well I'm pretty good." Harper says with a smile. "But I think Ms. Rizzoli has been letting me win." She says looking at Angela with a smile and a giggle. Jane and Maura and Angela couldn't hold back their laughter.
"Ohhh she got you Ma!" Jane says laughing. Angela looks over to Maura with a "help me out here look." "I'm sorry Angela but she has a point. Maura says joining back in the laughter. "Oh hush you two." Angela says with a pout that quickly turns to a smile while walking over to Jane then Maura to give them a hug and kiss before she heads out with Ethan. "Bye my little man." Jane says kissing her son goodbye. "Bye Ethan Mommy and I love you and we will see you later." Maura says leaning over to kiss her son before getting dressed for work.
Angela stopped in her tracks when she seen the little girl hang her head and walk Into the livingroom. "Maura, Janie why don't you two let me take Harper with me and Ethan to the park?" Angela says concerned and hurt broken for the little girl. "Ma are you sure?" "Seems like alot to handle." Jane says looking back at Harper. "I've handled three kids remember?" Angela says. "Maur what do think? Jane ask looking to her wife. "I think that's a great idea Angela, I believe it will be good for her Jane. And besides it will be more fun then sitting in my office all day." Jane takes a minute to think it over.
"Hey Harper." Jane calls over her shoulder. "Ma'am?" The little girl says as she walks up next to the tall brunette. Jane gets down on her knees to eye level with Harper. "How would you like to go with my Ma and Ethan to the park today?" Harper's eyes filled with excitement and a huge smile crossed her face. "Really?!" She asked. "Yes, really!" Jane says with the same excitement. "I'll go grab my shoes I'll be right back." Harper quickly turns on her heal and runs upstairs. Maura, Jane and Angela can't help but chuckle. A few seconds later Harper comes barreling back down the stairs. "Are you ready to go little miss?" Jane ask. "Yes ma'am." "Okay now you listen to Mrs. Rizzoli today okay?" Maura says before letting them leave. "Yes ma'am she wont have any problems with me." Harper states with a smile. "Okay well have fun we will see you two later." Jane says waving at them both. As the door closes Jane looks to Maura and says. "Is she the cutest or what?" Jane says laughing lightly. "Yes she is and very respectful." Maura adds. "Well babe we better get a move on or we will be late." Jane says giving Maura a slap on the butt. "Heyy!" Maura says laughing chasing Jane up the stairs.
Once at the precinct Maura goes to the morgue and Jane to the bullpen. Jane is filled in by Frankie on the latest information on the case and Maura confirms what Dr. Pike had previously stated.
Later that day Jane is sitting at her desk tapping her pen in frustration. The case was at a stand still and it frustrated her so much to know that Adam, a soilder was gun downed and his daughter left behind to witness it. "I need coffee." Jane says to herself before rolling her chair away and grabbing her coat. As soon as she turns around Jane noticed two men in military garb walking towards her.
"Sargent Rizzoli?" The taller man ask. Jane took a second to realize he was talking to her. "Uh yeah sorry that's me I haven't been called Sargent since the military around here its lieutenant." She said with a smile. "What can I do for you today gentleman?" Jane ask respectfully. "Well Sargent it uh, has been brought to our attention that Corporal Jackson had no family." "And in light of the situation we were informed that Corporal Jackson had listed you as his primary next of kin." The tall man stops and clears his throat.
"Wait, I'm sorry he listed me to be notified of his death?" Jane asked in disbelief. "Yes ma'am that is correct." The man answered. "Um guys I don't mean to sound rude but I have Corporal Jackson's body in my morgue." "Yes Sargent we are aware, but as you know military protocol states we have to inform the primary next of kin regardless of circumstances." The tall gentleman says. "Yeah, of course I'm sorry it's just a shock to me is all." Jane said putting her coat back down.
"It seems that Corporal Jackson admired you and thought of you as family you served two tours beside him this is not uncommon." "This entitles you to make his arrangements as you see fit." "If you have any questions here is my card, I'm sorry for your loss." The tall man states. "Uh yeah of course thank you for informing me of this information." Jane says. "We should be going now." "Thank you for your time and service." The tall gentleman says.
Maura was walking into the bullpen when she noticed Jane talking with the two men in military uniform she stopped when the tall gentleman raised his hand to his forehead in salute followed by Jane.
After the men exited the bullpen Jane flopped back into her chair not noticing her wife walking towards her. "Jane?" Maura calls out to her wife. "Honey are you okay? What was that all about?" Maura ask in concern of the two men who just left. Jane took a second and with a big sigh and began to tell her wife. "Wow, you must of really made an impression on him." Maura says in disbelief herself now.
"Yeah, I guess I did, I mean we did two tours together he was like a brother." Jane says hanging her head. "Oh honey I'm sorry." Maura says holding Jane's hand. "How about we go get some coffee and talk about this when we get home let's solve this case and bring justice to both Adam and Harper." Maura says calmly pulling Jane up out of her chair. "Your right babe one thing at a time." Jane says smiling at her wife as they walk out to grab a coffee at the cafe.
