It's a great hangout place for readers and writers alike! You'd be able to chat with me, as well as many other writers from and outside of this side. If you're interested, don't hesitate to join in – we'll welcome you with open arms!

Greetings everyone! Xeroz/Xerozzuro here! How are you guys doing? I hope you have been fine and healthy!

I welcome all of you, to chapter 26 of "Issei Hyoudou, the Neko Dragon"! A story that, despite the weak start and poor writing, you guys keep loving. Thank you! Your support is deeply appreciated!

I'M AWFULLY SORRY FOR BEING ABSENT FOR EVEN LONGER THAN LAST TIME! PLEASE, FORGIVE ME AND MY POOR TIME MANAGEMENT!

Though, to be honest, I felt like doing other stuff first, and then returning to this chapter. Priorities, I tell ya!

School, somewhat-active social life, hobbies, etc. Especially school. School is the bane of my existence and free time.

Also, truth be told, I was considering quitting writing at one point, but eventually decided against it, since I do enjoy it, even if I don't do it that frequently. Also, there are other stories I want to tell. And no, not all of them are fan fictions.

Still, I'm awfully sorry! I'm sorry that I keep disappointing you guys like this and I'm sorry that I take so long! Please, please forgive me! I ask humbly from the bottom of my heart!

Now, if you're still here and have not left yet, I'm here again, ready to answer some reviews and give you guys chapter 26!

REVIEWS TIME!

Mata1 – I strike when no one expects me to! Glad to see you guys are still around too. I'll try to make the story more active.

OutstandAce170 – Things still aren't settled, but at least it isn't such a pain in the ass at the moment. Still, thank you!

Shi – Are you the same person…? Don't get me wrong, your compliments are appreciated, but like… What have you done to the real Shi? .

NinjaFang1331 – Thank you for still sticking with me after so long!

Mythfan – Thank you!

Pekoy – He will be. There is a reason why I didn't make him as OP as I want him to at the start. Things will start to change. Don't you worry. Also, "supporting feminism"… Really? Are you from Tumblr or something?

OechesnerC – Noted and fixed. Thanks!

Amazing Lord Shamastus – Thank you for still reviewing my stories despite me not paying the favor back, I have been extremely busy and haven't been able to read many fanfics on here… Sorry about that. Also, thank you for your kind words, but please, you are way better than me, since your stories are way more original and better structured than mine. Also, do not worry, I wouldn't leave you guys without letting you all know first. Thank you again for you encouragement, friend. Please, keep up the good work on your own stories and I will come by and drop some reviews whenever I can.

Mike Kromer – Thanks for still leaving reviews man. I appreciate it! Also, Koneko's problem is quite a simple one, you just gotta give it some thought. ;)

Xerzo LotCN – Time flies my man, I myself didn't know how much time has passed until I didn't check the update date of my story. Yeah, poll voters wanted lemons and I'd be glad to deliver, even if badly executed. Also, I would really like to explain to you about the nightmare, but I can't do so for… reasons. ;) Also, I wouldn't bet if I were you, there are lots of factors I can use to make Issei go JD at any time. You addressed the fact that I follow the canon quite closely, and yes, I agree, I intend to follow it for the time being. But I'll be sure to start doing my own things when the time comes for it. Anyways, thank you for reviewing!

Guest – Finally! I ain't the only one! :'D Also yes, Papi Tannin will be out to play soon enough!

Vizard Masky – Stick around and find out, I have many things planned. ;)

Jadasimone16 – Thank you! I don't intend on abandoning it anytime soon!

Dueliant – Thanks! Good to be back (even though I never left)! Also, I understand your confusion, I pretty much showed you guys all of his powers… or did I? Also, yes, a lot of people pointed the fact that he's too obedient, and I agree, I need him to be in this state right now. Things will change. It's up to you to figure out when before I show it to you.

Percy zoe and artemis fan – Thank you! Never watched Bleach, so I can't really say I understand…

Tohka123 – Thank you! :D

Gaim no Kaze – Thank you, thank you! Also, yes, I know, but I changed it to 'Sword Creator' cuz I think it sounds better.

antifanboy – I would beg to differ about what you said for the characters and all, but I still appreciate your kind words, so thank you! Also, I kinda explained how exactly he got the Boosted Gear, but then again, back when I explained it, I had even less skills than now, so… But yeah, frick the lore, I do what I want! :D

Donosi – True. Back when I started it in 2015, the idea seemed to be quite rare, so it was something new. Problem was that I executed it badly. Still, I think I've improved and I might return to fix the issues I myself have with the earlier chapters myself someday. Perhaps.

Luciendar – You're absolutely correct. I am disappointed in this myself and I intend to correct it from now on whenever I see fit or have an idea. Please bear with me, as I'm still inexperienced!

The 5th Dragon Guardian – I'm sorry! Please forgive me!

ralphwillis26 – I will! For as long as I have the drive and will, I will!

Scrumblenut – I do agree with your criticism. Chapters 1-20 really have to be rewritten, but truth be told – I doubt it will happen anytime soon, if at all. Then again, I can never guarantee 100%. The part with Koneko's past was basically just plot convenience I made so that I can strengthen their bond easier. It's okay if you don't like it, but I wanted to do that. The LNs did a good enough job with her past, but I wanted to add my own twist to it all. As for the daggers and the dream and all that, don't worry, I do have stuff planned, even if it may take a while for it all to start. Also, I've read the majority of these stories and a lot of them served as my inspiration for a long time. Although I really don't read many DxD stories these days, I do read them whenever I need inspiration. Thank you for the advice!

Killthebeast – Thank you for the support! Sorry for the long wait!

Ddraig12 – Will do!

Animelover561 – Loud and clear, hope you enjoy!

AKIRA FUDO – It was a nice doujin. The girl does fit Koneko's personality, kind of. I don't think I'd ever write something like this though. Then again, who knows, really? I might do just that someday. Though, it's unlikely.

That was it for the reviews. Thank you guys for taking time in writing them! Your feedback is appreciated!

And with that, let's begin the chapter!

{[Scene Start]}

A day passed since Rias' Peerage arrived at Rias' home in the Underworld. Unsurprisingly, the arrival of Rias and her servants was anticipated by both her family members and the Devils living in the Underworld.

Issei was able to meet Rias' father, whom he had last seen years ago. He also met her mother, someone that he somehow had managed to miss during all of his visits when he was younger. The fact that he never got to introduce himself properly years ago was eating at him quite aggressively simply because of his manners.

The day of the arrival went well, at least according to Issei. Rias herself seemed to have some issues with her mother that seemed to be angry at her way of getting out of that marriage with Riser.

Then again, she was pretty much forced into it, so of course she wouldn't want to put up with it.

What was interesting for Issei was the fact that Rias' father asked of him to learn about the Devils' High Society alongside his training in 'gentlemanly behavior' as her father called it.

That's what he was currently doing actually. He was in a room with Millicas, Rias's nephew with both of them being currently tutored by another Devil about High-Class Devils, the upper echelons of society and nobility.

Issei already knew a little about them though, he did learn some things about Devils back when he was training with Sirzechs, Rias' father and the rest of the Maous, so the things he was currently tasked with remembering were not anything new to him.

What surprised him was the fact that Rias' nephew, Millicas, seemed to understand the concept of the material quite well. He seemed quite intelligent which impressed Issei.

"Young master," the tutoring Devil called out to Issei. "do you know the Devil alphabet?"

Being called 'young master' was still quite weird to Issei. He insisted that the tutoring Devil would just call him by his name, but to no avail, as he would always refer to him by 'young master'.

"Yes, I do." Issei nodded. "Sirzechs-sama taught me how to read it and use it during my first visits years ago."

"Very well!" the tutor said as he clapped his hands. "Then, if that's the case, how about we move to the history of the Gremory family next?"

"Sounds good to me." Issei nodded his head in agreement.

As he said that, the door towards the room he and Millicas were in, opened revealing Rias' mother, Venelana.

"Grandmother!" Millicas exclaimed as she entered the room.

Issei turned his head towards her as she entered the room. No matter how many times he looked at her, he just couldn't comprehend the fact that she was Rias' mother. To him, she looked like an older sister of hers.

"Issei-san, Millicas, how is your studying progressing?" she asked as she walked up to the place they were sitting, looking at the notes they've taken.

Typically, Millicas was doing spectacular work, which was no surprise as it was no secret that he was quite intelligent. She wasn't surprised at the good work when examining Millicas' notes and as always, she rewarded him with a gentle pat on the head.

Examining Issei's notes however, it was evident that his Devil writing could use some work, but he himself was also doing well. This pleased her, as it seemed that he was taking his training seriously.

"It's just as Sirzechs and Grayfia told me, you work hard at every task given to you." Venelana said with a smile.

"Not really, I knew some of the stuff already." Issei replied as he scratched the back of his head. "Sirzechs-sama and Zeoticus-sama made sure I know the basics ever since I began coming here to train."

"Yet you're still working hard to learn what you don't know as well." Venelana said as she put a hand on his shoulder. "So what Sirzechs and Grayfia said still stands as true."

"W-Well, I guess you're right…" Issei said as he looked away from her.

"Please, take a break for now." Venelana said. "Rias will be returning soon. Since, there is a customary function for the gathering of young Devils in the Maou's territory today."

"Gathering of the young Devils?" Issei asked.

"Indeed. An assembly of all the young Devils in the Underworld. All of them are Devils that have yet to debut in the Rating Games." Venelana explained. "The High-Class Devil heirs from old and noble families will be gathered in one place by the Maous, in order to get to know one another."

"I see." Issei nodded in acknowledgement. "Do we have to accompany them?"

"Usually, every Devil that owns a Peerage has to accompany their master in the gathering, but as a 'Free Piece' no one can force you to accompany Rias and the rest. It's all up to you."

"So you know that I'm a 'Free Piece'?" Issei asked.

"Of course." Venelana nodded. "Sirzechs told me about it. He also told me the reason as to why you became one."

"It was… nothing, really. I just felt like it was the right thing to do…" Issei mumbled to himself mostly, although he was sure that Venelana heard it as well.

"I'm aware of what Rias had done. I'm aware of what her motives were as well." Venelana stated. "To be honest, I can see why you wouldn't trust her back then, but you also have to understand that she had her reason for letting you go after the Fallen Angel."

"I've already gotten over it." Issei sighed. "Besides, I didn't know that she had to marry Raiser. She was trying to get out of it, so it'd make sense for her to try and add some man power to her Peerage."

"So you're not angry at her?" Venelana asked.

"No, I'm not. As I said, I've gotten over it." Issei said.

"Wonderful!" Venelana exclaimed. "I'm glad this is the case, Issei-san. My daughter is really dependent on you, after all."

"She is?" Issei asked.

"Of course." Venelana nodded. "You got her out of her marriage with Raiser-kun, after all. She is quite happy about it and she had personally told me just how grateful she is to you."

"It wasn't just me though. Kiba, Koneko-chan, Akeno-san, Asia… Everyone helped." Issei said. "I just managed to finish him off, that's all."

"Quite humble, aren't you, Issei-san?" Venelana shook her head. "Anyways, Issei-san, I think that it would be good for you to go to the gathering of the young Devils."

"I was planning on going anyways, everyone else will be there after all." Issei nodded.

"Very good! I'm glad that you have decided to do so!" Venelana exclaimed. "Perhaps meeting the younger Devils and getting to know them will motivate you in some way. I was about to ask you to go with Rias, but knowing that you decided to do so on your own accord does ease me quite a lot."

"Y-Yeah, I'm interested in seeing the younger Devils." Issei scratched the back of his head once more.

"I'm glad to hear it. Anyways, I believe that the tutoring is enough for today, so please take a break until Rias returns." Venelana said as she clapped her hands.

The moment she did that, a maid entered the room Issei, Millicas and she herself were in and served all of them tea.

Issei was taking a break from his studies for the first time since the morning. Needless to say, he welcomed it with open arms.

{[Scene Break]}

Not too long after, Rias and the rest of her group returned from their sightseeing around the Gremory castles. As it turns out, Rias wanted to show Asia and Xenovia around the Underworld, while Issei was forced to sit back and struggle with studying. Life truly was unfair at times.

Regardless, when Rias and the rest came back, Issei was forced into a train with her and the remainder of her Peerage, alongside Raynare, that was going into the territory where Sirzechs was.

Unfortunately for Issei, it was a three hour long ride, so he had to endure jolting around in the train.

Upon arrival at the stop, Asia took a look around the cityscape, only to notice that all the houses looked modern and not that far-off from the ones she'd seen in the world she lived in. Raynare, who for some reason was there as well, didn't seem that interested in it, given that she herself was originally from the Underworld.

For Issei, this was no surprise. During the short visits in the Underworld when he was younger, he learned about the way Devils live and how close it was to the way the humans did. And while he had forgotten some of the more important stuff, such as how to write properly or who the Pillars of the Devil World were, he at least remembered the architecture, buildings and lifestyle.

"This is the city of Lucifaad within the Maou's territory." Kiba explained as he turned towards Asia and Raynare. "It's the old capital of the Underworld where the previous Lucifer-sama lived."

"So this is where this meeting will be?" Issei asked. "I'd guess the old capital would be a fitting place…"

"No, no, this is where we will change the lines." Kiba further explained. "If we go by the surface, we will cause too much of an uproar. It would be bothersome, so Buchou has prepared a private train."

"An uproar?" Issei raised his eyebrow. "Why would we-"

"Kyaaah! Princess Rias-samaaaaaaa!" a high-pitched cheer was suddenly heard from a distance.

Issei, Asia and Xenovia all turned towards the place where the cheer was coming from, only to see a group of devils on the station platform near them. All of them were gazing at Rias.

At first, Issei was confused as of to why was Rias the center of all this attention, but then it hit him.

She was the current Maou's younger sister, an heir to a noble family and a beautiful young girl. No wonder she'd receive that much attention.

"Hiiiiiiiiii…So many Devils…" Gasper whimpered from behind Issei as he gripped the back of his shirt.

"How troublesome." Rias sighed as she shook her head. "Let's switch over to the underground train quickly, before it becomes an uproar."

"I would say it already is, but I feel like I'd be summoning a storm if I did, so I'll just keep quiet." Issei said to no one in particular.

"Has the private train been prepared?" Rias asked a man in a black suit, who was standing next to her, serving as her bodyguard.

"Yes. Please follow me." the bodyguard replied and began leading Rias and the rest to the underground subway train.

"Rias-samaaaaaaaa!" a group of men kept cheering as she walked towards the subway train.

All she did was wave at them and give them a strained smile in return. Needless to say, she wasn't exactly enjoying the attention.

{[Scene Break]}

After being jolted around in the subway metro for about five minutes, Rias and the rest finally arrived at a platform, located within a basement of an enormous building within the city. As it seemed, this building was the place where the young Devils would be meeting.

Upon exiting the subway train, the black-suited bodyguard walked Rias and her Peerage to an enormous elevator. As they walked in it, the bodyguard turned around and then stood waiting on standby.

The elevator itself was enormous. It was spacious enough to fit maybe 100 people, if not more. If just the elevator was that big, Issei was afraid to even imagine how big the building as a whole was. As the elevator was going up the floors, Rias turned around and spoke.

"Everyone, I'll say it one more time." she began. "No matter what happens, stay in a calm state of mind. No matter what is said, don't start a fight. The people above are our future rivals. We mustn't show an unsightly form."

Everyone simply nodded and took a deep breath in an attempt to calm down. It was hard, but they had to.

Issei didn't have much of an issue. He wasn't really interested in fighting anyone, he simply wanted to see who these 'young Devils' were and if they are really as strong as he would expect them to be.

Not long after, the elevator stopped moving. With a ringing sound, the elevator doors opened, revealing an enormous spacious hall. A butler was waiting right in front of the elevator doors. The moment the doors opened, he bowed slightly to Rias and the rest.

"Welcome, Gremory-sama." the butler said. "Please come this way."

Complying, Rias and the rest began walking after the butler that was walking them through the passages, leading them to the room where the meeting was held. After a bit of walking around, all of them eventually found themselves in a long hall that was in no way different than the rest. The only difference was that in this hall, there were other people besides Rias, her Peerage and the butler.

One of these people seemed to be someone that Rias knew. As soon as she saw one of the Devils in the hall, she called out to him.

"Sairaorg!" Rias called out as she walked up to the person in question.

After calling out his name, the Devil turned around and looked at Rias. As he noticed her, he began walking towards her and her group.

"Oh, Rias!" the Devil said as he approached them. "It's been a while."

As the Devil approached the group, Issei took a closer look at him.

The Devil was definitely young, perhaps as young as Issei and the rest. He was rough, yet a good-looking guy with short black hair. He had an energetic appearance. He had a very good physique with plenty of muscles, much like a professional wrestler. His eyes were strangely purple.

No matter how he looked at it, this person was reminding him a lot of Rias. Was he a part of her family by any chance?

Rias and the unknown Devil shook their hands with smiles on their faces.

"Indeed it has! I missed you. It's good to see you're doing well." Rias said to the Devil.

Afterwards, she turned back towards her Peerage. Issei, Asia and Xenovia specifically.

"Issei, Asia, Xenovia, this is Sairaorg. He is my cousin from my mother's side." Rias explained.

'Well, that explains the similarities I noticed.' Issei thought to himself.

"Indeed." the Devil, now known as Sairaorg, nodded. "I'm Sairaorg Bael, the next head of the Bael family."

"'Bael'? As in, the family of the 'Great King'?" Issei asked.

"Yes, indeed." Sairaorg nodded. "I'm surprised you know that. You don't really look like someone who would be into the history of the Devil Pillars."

"Yeah, well, Zeoticus-sama made sure I learned the history of the Devils thoroughly." Issei said.

"That aside, what are you doing in the hall? Why are you not in the room?" Rias asked him.

"Ah. I got out of there." Sairaorg replied. "It got way too idiotic in there."

"…Idiotic?" Rias asked as she slightly tilted her head. "Have the other members arrived already?"

"Yeah, they have." Sairaorg replied with a slight hint of annoyance in his tone. "Agares and Astaroth have already arrived. Zephyrdor came last. Immediately after he arrived, Zephyrdor and Agares started arguing."

"Arguing?" Issei asked as he raised one of his brows. "What do you mea-"

He got interrupted however, as a loud crashing voice echoed through the halls, shaking the whole building they were currently in. The point of origin of said crash seemed to be close to them too, but at the moment, Issei and the rest were too surprised to try and find out where was it coming from.

"Goddamit, they're still at it." Sairaorg sighed.

With this, he began leading Rias and the rest further down the hall, until they reached an enormous wooden double door. Albeit closed, faint noises could be heard from behind it. Rias opened the door, revealing the disaster behind it.

Behind the now open door was an enormous banquet hall that was all smashed up. The tables, chairs and expensive-looking decorations were all destroyed. All the Devils within the room were split into two camps, glaring at each other in the center of the room.

Although he was quite far away from them, Issei clearly felt the killing intent present in both groups. It was hard to miss, really. Especially considering all the Devils had pulled out their weapons and all of them looked ready and eager to strike at the first given moment.

Despite all the destruction however, a single table remained in standing position. Sitting on it was an elegantly-dressed man that was comfortably drinking tea.

"Zephyrdor, can you not help starting a fight at a place like this?" a feminine voice called out to the man in question. "Do you want to die? Do you really want to die? Even if I kill you, I won't be blamed by the people on top."

The two groups of Devils continued their staring contest. Issei looked towards the person that spoke up.

The person that spoke was a woman that looked about as old as Issei. She had long blonde hair and red eyes, being covered by thin-framed glasses. She was wearing a simple blue robe with a golden necklace. Undeniably, this was a very pretty lady.

"Hah! I'll say it again, b.i.t.c.h!" the sitting Devil, Zephyrdor, replied. "I said that I'd teach you in one shot in a private room with great trouble! The Agares' onee-san really doesn't like being without her guards, now does she? Heh, is that why you're still a virgin who hasn't let a man come near her till now!? Geez, all the women of families of the Maous stink of virgins and are unbearable! That's why I said that I'd do a formal opening ceremony for you!"

The man, Zephyrdor, had a slightly red-ish skin, green hair standing on its edge and several black tattoos, covering his face and bare chest. His plain yellow pants, who were nothing special nor a sight to behold, had attached ornaments that jingled and clanked.

The guy looked exactly like a delinquent in every sense. Not to mention he seemed quite rude and crude, using vulgarities and inappropriate language in front of the beautiful lady. Looking at him and observing him, Issei had a hard time believing that this guy was a noble Devil. Yet something just told him that he was.

"Jeez." Issei silently swore. "So, what is the backstory? Why are they fighting?"

"This place is a waiting hall where we remain on standby until the time comes." Sairaorg explained as he stood in front of Issei and the rest. "To explain it better, the young people gather here and give each other small greetings."

"I mean, that's good and all, but I actually asked about-" Issei was about to say, only to get interrupted by Sairaorg.

"However, this is what happens when the young people greet each other." Sairaorg sighed. "By gathering many hot-blooded people together, problems like this also come out."

'So what? Are they arguing over which table is for whom or something?' Issei thought to himself. Sairaorg kept on with his explanation.

"The old Devils of the old families and High-Class Devils can't help assuming that this is a good thing." Sairaorg further explained. "I don't want to have anything to do with such a useless thing, but it can't be helped."

With that said, Sairaorg snapped his neck in order to adjust it and stepped forward towards the two groups of Devils glaring at each other.

"Issei." Rias turned towards Issei. "Watch Sairaorg carefully."

"Huh?" Issei responded. "U-Uh, I mean, I will, but why?"

"Because he's #1 among the young Devils." Rias replied bluntly.

"#1? As in, the strongest of them all?" Issei asked, receiving a simple nod from Rias in response.

Sairaorg finally got between the two Devil groups. Both Zephyrdor and the beautiful lady's eyes turned towards Sairaorg.

"Seegvaira, princess of the Agares family, and Zephyrdor, rebel child of the Glaysa-Labolas family." Sairaorg turned towards both of them respectively. "If you go any further than this, I will be your opponent."

Silence followed his statement. The Devil groups both took a step back each, as if in fear of Sairaorg.

"Listen, I know this is sudden, but this is your last warning." Sairaorg continued. "Depending on your next words and actions, I will use my fists without mercy."

Again, a brief silence followed. However, unlike last time, Zephyrdor had something to say to Sairaorg.

"For the incompetent Bael family to—" Zephyrdor said as he began to get up from the table, but was interrupted as Sairaorg dashed to where he was and in one hard punch sent him flying towards the nearest wall.

Upon colliding with the wall, a huge crack formed. Zephyrdor fell off from the wall and fell face-down to the floor, evidently being knocked out cold.

'In a single hit?!' Issei's eyes widened. 'Amazing! That guy is not that powerful, but even I would've had to charge myself up if I was to pull off something like this! Sairaorg-san, what the hell are you?'

"I told you. That was your last warning." Sairaorg said as he cracked his knuckles.

The first group of Devils turned towards the place where Zephyrdor was laying with their eyes wide as saucers. They were well aware just how powerful Sairaorg was, but even they couldn't have predicted that Zephyrdor could've been taken out with a single hit.

Several of the Devils turned towards Sairaorg, weapons ready to strike. None of them dared to even move though. It was as if they were paralyzed.

"What? No one else wants to try their luck?" Sairaorg asked as he spread his arms, beckoning the group to attack him. As expected, no one dared to move. "That's what I thought."

Sairaorg then turned towards the beautiful lady with the glasses. As Sairaorg began staring at her, her face stiffened. Needless to say, she was just as scared as the others were.

"There's still time." Sairaorg said. "Put your make-up on again. It wouldn't do to attend the function while wearing something so bad."

'Ouch.' Issei thought to himself after hearing Sairaorg's roast.

"…I-I understand." Seegvaira said. With that, she turned back and left the hall, alongside the second group of Devils.

With Seegvaira gone, Sairaorg turned towards the first Devil group once more. They all took a step back.

"Look after your Master. That's the first thing you should do." Sairaorg said as he nudged his head towards Zephyrdor's unconscious body. "The important function will be starting soon, so make sure your Master recovers first."

The group of Devils, who turned out to be Zephyrdor's Peerage, all nodded at Sairaorg's words and went to check on their Master.

With that out of the way, Sairaorg turned towards the butler.

"Call the rest of the staff." Sairaorg said. "The hall is too messed up, and I won't be able to have tea with Rias like this."

The butler did as ordered and left the hall in order to bring the rest of the staff in hopes of fixing the damages dealt to the room.

Issei simply stood there, awestruck. Sairaorg was definitely a power to be reckoned with. Or at least, that's what it looked like. He wondered whether he'd be able to beat Sairaorg if they ever went toe-to-toe or not. Issei knew his own strength, he knew that he could potentially overpower Sairaorg, but seeing knocking off someone with a single hit did make him a little nervous.

He trembled slightly. Since when was he so insecure in himself and his abilities? What was wrong with him recently anyways? That's not the Issei he knew.

As the butler left, Issei heard a familiar voice coming from behind him.

"Ah, Hyoudou!" it was Saji's voice. Issei turned towards him in order to greet him back.

"Oh, hi, Saji." Issei replied as he turned around. That's when he noticed that behind him was not just Saji, but the entirety of the Kuoh School Council.

As it seemed, they had arrived just a little bit too late to witness the demonstration of power.

{[Scene Break]}

"I am Seegvaira Agares. The next head of the Agares family, rank Archduke." the glasses-wearing woman from before said as she introduced herself to Rias' Peerage.

Not long after the whole incident with Zephyrdor and Sairaorg took place in the hall, the room and all the furniture within was fixed through the use of Devil magic, restoring the place back to normal.

The young Devils, now more calm and collected, gathered together once more and exchanged greetings like before, as if the incident had not occurred at all.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Rias Gremory, the next head of the Gremory family." Rias introduced herself as well in return.

"I'm Sona Sitri, the next head of the Sitri family." Sona was the next to introduce herself to the young Devils.

"I'm Sairaorg Bael, I'm the next head of the Bael family, rank Great King." Sairaorg introduced himself as well.

With the three Peerage Masters' introductions done, it was time for another Devil to introduce himself. A Devil who seemed calm and collected, gracefully sipping on his tea all through the earlier uproar with Sairaorg and Zephyrdor.

"I'm Diodora Astaroth, the next head of the Astaroth family." the handsome, blond young Devil said. "Please take care of me, everyone."

Everything, from his looks to his voice seemed gentle, innocent and well-mannered. His clothing seemed very expensive and well-made, fit for someone from a rich and noble family.

And yet, despite his looks and behavior, Issei's gut just told him that there was something not quite right with this person. Problem was, not even he knew what exactly was it.

"The Glaysa-Labolas family seemed to have had some family trouble the other day." Sairaorg said. "The person who was supposed to be the next head of the family just had an unforeseen accidental death. Zephyrdor from just before is said to have become the new candidate for the next head."

As Sairaorg explained the situation to everyone else, Issei took a good look at all the young Devils around him. All of them appeared powerful and experienced, despite being young. Was it not for his weird nature, he knew he would've felt threatened just by their presence in the room.

Yet, it made sense. There were six great Devils in the room currently. Strong Devils, at that.

There were the Gremory that had Lucifer, the Sitri that had Leviathan, the Astaroth that had Beelzebub, the Glaysa-Labolas that had Asmodeus, and also the Great King and Archduke as well. These were the six families present in the hall.

Good thing he took a lesson in Devil history in the morning, otherwise he wouldn't have had any idea who half of these people were and why were they so important.

"Hey, Issei, is everything alright?" Saji asked Issei. "You look like you're lost somewhere."

"Huh? Oh." Issei said as he snapped out of his trance. "I'm okay. I was just thinking about some stuff. Don't worry about me."

"I see." Saji nodded. "Well, whatever the case, please try to be a bit more dignified. After all, the opponents are keeping a close eye to the subordinates of the High-class Devils too."

"I know, I know, don't worry." Issei said. "It's a bit hard though, it's my first time attending such an event and the sheer amount of people here is off-putting to me."

"I thought you were used to the Underworld." Saji said.

"I am, but I'm not used to these meetings and gatherings and such." Issei confessed. "All of these Devils… they're definitely really powerful."

"Well, yeah, but despite that, you're the Sekiryuutei, aren't you?" Saji asked. "Shouldn't you have enough power to defeat majority of them?"

"I should, and yet…" Issei turned away, cutting himself off as he was unsure of what to say next.

Luckily for him, there was no need for him to say anything, for as soon as he turned away, one of the doors opened and a butler entered the hall through it.

"Sorry for making you all wait for so long." the butler said as he bowed down apologetically. "Everyone is waiting."

As it seemed, the function was starting. About time.

{[Scene Break]}

Issei and the rest of the young Devils entered the room the function was held in. The first thing they noticed in there was the weird atmosphere and the arrangement of the chairs and the other furniture.

Inside the room, four distinguished-looking Devils sat, the four Devils being no other than the four Maous – Sirzechs Lucifer, Serafall Leviathan, Ajuka Beelzebub and Falbium Asmodeus.

The four Maous, as well as several other distinguished-looking Devils, were seated on chairs situated on a higher level in the room, looking down towards Issei and everyone else present in the room beneath them.

'Damn, being stared down by Devils…' Issei thought to himself. 'Not really pleasant…'

Following the instructions of the higher-ups, all of the young Devils formed lines behind their Peerage leaders, standing still and not doing anything in particular.

With nothing else to do, Issei looked around the room, observing the Peerage members of the other young Devils. Sadly, apart from the monster girls, there wasn't really anything particularly unnatural or unique when it came to the Peerage members.

Issei kept looking around the room, not realizing that every Peerage leader took a step forward towards a podium.

"Good, you have gathered." an elderly Devil spoke up solemnly. "In order to check the faces of you all, who will carry the burden of the next generation, you have been gathered here. This is also a meeting that is performed over a regular cycle, so that we can ascertain the young Devils."

"They seem to have fought right away, though..." another Devil said with a slight chuckle, taking notice of Zephyrdor's still swelled cheek.

"You six are all Devils of the next generation that have pedigree and true ability that no objection can be raised against." Sirzechs spoke from his seat at the topmost level. "That's why, I want you to compete together before your debuts and increase your power in this way."

[Looks like Rating Games will be carried out soon enough, Partner.] Ddraig's voice suddenly filled Issei's head. [A nice opportunity for you to hone your skills further, don't you think?]

'Good call.' Issei replied. 'I almost lost to Valy, can't have that happening again.'

"Will we also eventually be sent out in the battle against the 'Khaos Brigade'?" Sairaorg asked bluntly, to everyone's surprise.

"I don't know." Sirzechs replied. "However, I don't want to send out young Devils if possible."

"Why?" Sairaorg asked, as if unable to comprehend Sirzechs' answer. "Even if we're young, we carry part of the responsibility of Devils. If we just receive kindness from our predecessors even at this age and nothing further is done-"

"Sairaorg, I acknowledge your bravery. However, you're reckless." Sirzechs interrupted him. "Above all, I'd like to avoid sending you all, who are still in the midst of growing, to the battlefield. Besides, it would be too great a loss if we lost the Devils of the next generation."

A short silence followed before Sirzechs continued.

"I want you to understand." Sirzechs continued from where he stopped. "You are all more of a treasure to us than you think. That's why I want you to experience important things step by step and grow."

Another short silence followed. As short as it was, however, Sairaorg broke it.

"I understand." Sairaorg nodded his head, seemingly consenting with his words. Despite that however, the expression on his face still appeared dissatisfied.

A long talk then ensued. A talk about the upcoming games and the trainings that every Peerage member was about to undergo in an attempt to prepare them for the Rating Games. A talk that was filled with terminology and needlessly complex words which Issei understood, but couldn't care less about.

Through all the long talk, Issei was spaced out, thinking about literally everything else but the words spoken by Sirzechs and the rest of the higher-ups.

Thankfully for him and his boredom, the talk finally ended.

"Now then, I apologize for keeping you with this long talk." Sirzechs said, snapping Issei out of wherever his mind was stuck in. "Well, we all see our dreams and hopes in you, young ones. I want you to understand at least that. You are the treasures of the Underworld."

Everyone nodded after hearing Sirzechs' words, hanging on his statement and reinforcing it.

"To finish things, will you now let us hear your respective future goals?" Sirzechs asked as he looked down towards Rias and the rest of the Peerage leaders.

The first one to respond to Sirzechs was Sairaorg.

"My dream is to become Maou." Sairaorg declared bluntly and boldly.

The higher-ups all let out breaths of wonder at Sairaorg's goal, which he had declared upfront without hesitation.

"It's unprecedented for a Devil from the Great King family to leave it." one of the higher-ups said.

"When the people of the Underworld feel that there's no choice but for me to become Maou, I will become one." Sairaorg further declared without a second thought.

The higher-ups had no time to even react to Sairaorg's statement before Rias spoke up.

"My goal for the near future is to live as the next Gremory head, and to win in each Rating Game battle." Rias declared.

The higher-ups began murmuring among themselves after hearing Rias' goal.

"An admirable goal, heiress of Gremory." one of the higher-ups commented.

After Rias, the remaining of the Peerage leaders all shared their goals and dreams with the higher-ups and the Maous. Their dreams and goals unsurprisingly weren't much different from Rias'.

After everyone else was done, it was Sona's turn to speak.

"I wish to build a school for the Rating Games in the Underworld." Sona declared.

After hearing this, the higher-ups scrunched up their eyebrows. Apparently, they weren't very fond of Sona's idea.

"If it's learning about Rating Games, isn't there already one for that?" one of the higher-ups asked.

"That is just a school where only High-class Devils and Devils of privileged rank are accepted." Sona replied blandly. "The school that I want to build is one where Low-class Devils and reincarnated Devils can also attend without any distinction."

'A school without discrimination?' Issei thought to himself after hearing Sona's idea. 'That's good. It would be a good place for the future Underworld.'

However, despite Sona's noble goal, an unexpected reaction was evoked from the higher-ups.

"Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!" the laughter of the higher-ups filled the room.

Issei was, by no way, surprised from the higher-ups' reactions. He was well aware that discrimination between the High-class, Low-class, and reincarnated Devils still existed.

"I see! So you're a little girl who dreams!" one of the higher-ups said while laughing.

"It's good to be young!" another one exclaimed, also laughing. "However, for the next head of the Sitri family to state such a dream, I have to say thank goodness that it was here at this place of introduction before your debut."

Despite all of this, Sona didn't seem at all embarrassed by the reaction.

"I'm serious." she said frankly.

Serafall nodded strongly in agreement. However, that was all she could really do as a Maou.

"Sona Sitri-dono. Low-class Devils and reincarnated Devils merely work for their High-class Devil masters and are only selected for their talent." one of the higher-ups spoke up in a calm manner. "Wouldn't building such a training institution make the old families, who value tradition and pride, lose face? No matter how much people say that the world of Devils has entered a period of change, change can be both good and bad. Something like teaching mere Low-class Devils really is nothing of your concern..."

"Why have you been looking down on Kaichou's-on Sona-sama's dream like that while I've been listening silently!?" Saji suddenly yelled out, unable to remain silent after hearing the higher-ups' reactions. "It's strange! Why should you decide that it won't come true!? We're serious here!"

"Be careful how you talk, young reincarnated devil." the same higher-up said. He then turned back towards Sona. "Sona-dono, your servant hasn't been properly trained."

"…I apologize. I'll speak to him later." Sona said without changing her expression or tone.

"Kaichou! Why!?" Saji asked, dumbfounded, unable to understand Sona's reaction. "These people, they mocked your, our dream! Why, do you remain silent!?"

"Saji, be silent." Sona ordered. "This isn't a place where you can display such an attitude. I simply told them my future goal. That's all."

Saji seemed like he wanted to say something. Sona, noticing that, narrowed her eyes and scolded him without uttering a single word.

"In that case! If my Sona-chan wins magnificently in the games, you won't have any complaints, right?" Serafall suddenly said. "Since many things are granted by saving up good results in the games!"

Hearing Serafall's sudden suggestion surprised everyone present in the room. Their surprise was caused not only by the fact that Serafall spoke up, but also because she seemed to be in a pissed off mood.

"Geez! You oji-samas are all joining forces to torment my Sona-chan!" Sona exclaimed with watery eyes. "Even I have my limit of endurance! If you bully her that much, I'll torment you as well!"

The higher-ups all stared at her, unable to even react at her words. They all just blinked rapidly, trying to understand what was going on.

While all this was happening, Sona covered her face in a seeming embarrassment. Understandable reaction.

In a sense, Issei was glad that Serafall spoke up. Standing there and watching these mostly old guys make fun of someone's dream was awful. He was taught as a child that dreams are important and one should always keep chasing their dreams, no matter how ridiculous or outlandish they seemed.

"Very well. Then, let's play the games, between these young people." Sirzechs suddenly said, bringing all the attention to him. "Rias, Sona, would you not like to fight each other?"

Silence filled the room after Sirzechs' suggestion. Rias and Sona both blinked in surprise, then looked at each other. Without minding them, Sirzechs continued.

"Originally, it was planned for Rias' game to take place in a few days." Sirzechs continued. "Azazel has gathered Rating Game fans from each of the powers, also under the pretext of watching the games of the young people before their debuts. That's why it's fine like this. Let's hold the game with Rias and Sona."

No one said anything. The higher-ups began whispering among themselves, awaiting response from both Rias and Sona.

Rias let out a breath, showing a defiant smile to Sona afterwards, letting her know that she intends to accept. Sona responded with her own scornful smile, letting her know that she intends to go all-out.

"It may not be an official one, but it feels like fate to me that you would be my first Rating Game opponent, Rias." Sona said.

"Now that we're competing with each other, I won't lose, Sona." Rias replied as sparks began to fly between the two.

"A match between Rias-chan and Sona-chan!" Serafall exclaimed. "Yes! It may fire things up!"

"The date of the competition is August 20th in human world time." Sirzechs declared. "You may each divide up your time as you like until then. The details will be sent again later."

By Sirzechs' decree, a Rating Game between Rias and Sona was going to start in this way. A definite surprise for both parties.

And yet, it was a surprise that they both were ready to tackle head on.

{[Scene Break]}

With the meeting between the young Devils over, Rias and her peerage returned to the main residence of the Gremory family. Upon arriving, they were greeted there by no other than Azazel, the leader of the Fallen Angels.

After exchanging greetings, Rias, her Peerage and Azazel all gathered in the enormous living room in order to discuss the meeting carried over not that long ago.

"I see, so it'll be a showdown with the Sitri family." Azazel nodded his head.

"Quite unexpected, I know, but it is what it is." Rias replied.

"Well, today is July 28th, in human world time." Azazel said. "That means we have about 20 days until the showdown day."

"20 days for training, right?" Issei asked.

"Naturally." Azazel replied bluntly. "I plan for you to start from tomorrow onwards. I've already considered each of your training menus."

"As expected of you, Azazel-sama." Issei commented after hearing Azazel's words. "But, is it okay for only us to receive advice from the Fallen Angel Governor?"

"Not really, but don't worry." Azazel replied. "I intend to give data to the various members of the Devil side. Also, the Angel side is said to also be doing a backing-up system. The rest depends on the pride of the young Devils themselves. If they think from the bottom of their hearts that they want to get stronger and raise their original duration, they'll take the help wholeheartedly."

"So, we're not breaking any rules?" Issei asked.

"Not at all." Azazel nodded. "In fact, even my Vice-Governor will also be giving advice to each of the families. What do you know, Shemhaza's advice may even be more helpful than mine!"

"Yeah, great way to ease us up, Azazel-sama…" Issei sighed.

"It's fine." Azazel flicked his wrist towards Issei. "You know that my methods of training are always good and effective, even if I don't really like battling."

"Yeah, I'm aware." Issei said. "But that's me, the rest probably don't know that."

"Well, I'll have to prove myself then." Azazel smirked. "Gather in the garden tomorrow morning. I'll give each of you your training methods then. Be ready."

"Yes, Azazel-sensei." everyone from Rias' Peerage responded, with the exception of Rias herself, Issei and Koneko, who still felt under the weather.

As they all responded, Grayfia walked in the room.

"Everyone, the hot spring bath is ready."

These news were one of the best things Issei had heard the whole day.

{[Scene Break]}

Relaxing in the hot spring felt great. It helped Issei and everyone else relax after everything that happened earlier. Both Issei and Azazel seemed to be well-accustomed to the hot springs situated in the Gremory garden.

"Aaah, that feels so great~." Issei said to himself out loud as he immersed into the hot water. "I didn't realize I needed a hot bath so much."

"Well, a lot of things did happen today, Issei-kun." Kiba said as he sat next to Issei. "Even I'm a bit worn down, despite not really doing anything."

"Heh, yeah, tell me about it." Issei nodded.

A short silence then followed as Issei closed his eyes and relaxed. He began to slowly submerge himself into the hot spring until a thought suddenly pulled him out of his little trance.

"Wait. Where is Gasper?" he asked as he began looking around, noticing the young vampire's absence.

He kept on looking round until he finally noticed him loitering at the entrance of the springs, keeping away from everyone. Issei sighed, rose out of the hot water and headed over to Gasper with his towel still wrapped around his waist.

"C'mon Gasper, don't just stand there." Issei called out to him as he approached. "The hot water will help you a lot, trust me."

"B-But, I- Kyah!" Gasper tried to protest but interrupted himself with a scream upon having Issei grasping his hand.

"Come on now, I'm not accepting any rejections." Issei said, paying little mind to the noise Gasper just made. "Also, a piece of advice – don't put up your towel all the way to your chest if you're a guy. There isn't anything to hide up there."

"B-But I feel embarrassed, Issei-senpai…" Gasper complained with teary eyes.

Issei simply sighed again and led him into the springs. The moment the hot water touched him however, Gasper immediately shrieked due to the temperature.

He made a futile attempt to escape, but Issei quickly caught him by the back of his towel and rose him over his head. A smirk then appeared on his face.

"Don't forget, Gasper. You're a man!" Issei declared. "And a man shouldn't run away from something as small as this!"

With his encouraging speech over, Issei threw Gasper into the hot water. The reaction was imminent as Gasper's screams echoed through the male baths.

"Nooooooooo! It's hoooooot! I'm meltiiiiiiing!" Gasper screamed as his body made contact with the water.

"Don't yell, Gasper!" Issei yelled out to him in response, fearing that the girls in the female baths right next to them would get the wrong impression from hearing this ordeal.

"Issei, don't tease Gasper, okay?" Rias' voice was suddenly heard from behind the wall that was setting the male and female baths apart. Two silent giggles were heard immediately afterwards.

Issei said nothing. Instead, he walked back to where he was previously and sat down next to Kiba once more, immersing himself into the hot water.

"I see you're trying to teach the vampire how to be a man." Azazel suddenly spoke out.

"I guess you could say that." Issei scratched the back of his head. "I think I should first make him get out of his shell though… he is still way too much of a shut-in…"

"Well, what do you expect?" Azazel asked as he immersed deeper into the hot water. "He does have his reasons, you know?"

"Yes, I am aware, Azazel-sama." Issei nodded. "Don't worry though, I will find a way to change that and I will find a way to help him become stronger."

'Maybe I should first help myself with that, though…' Issei thought to himself, once again recalling the dream he had on the morning before their arrival. He clenched his fist involuntarily.

"Well, it's a good thing you're that concerned for your kouhai then, Issei." Azazel smirked. "Though, you know, maybe you should do more than throwing him into the hot water or giving him speeches."

Issei turned to Azazel and rose his brow.

"Think bigger!" Azazel continued. "I'm talking about demonstrations, Issei! I'm talking about showcases!"

"What are you on, Azazel-sama?" Issei asked as he narrowed his eyes.

"Tell me, Issei, what separates the men from the boys?" Azazel asked him.

Issei didn't respond immediately. He cupped his chin and thought about it for a second, only to come up with nothing. Clueless, he looked up at Azazel.

"The age?" he attempted to guess, only to receive a negative answer from Azazel, as well as a smirk that could lead to nothing good.

"Boldness, Iseei. Boldness!" Azazel replied as he puffed his chest.

"I don't think I understand…" Issei once again scratched his head.

"Then, let me demonstrate!" Azazel said as he suddenly rose up and grabbed Issei's arm. A dirty smile formed on Azazel's face.

"Wait, Azazel-sama, what are you-" Issei tried to ask, only to get interrupted.

"Rules are rules, Issei!" with that, Azazel tugged on Issei's arm, effectively making him stand up and rise out of the water. "If you are a man, the bathing has to be mixed!"

Before he could do anything, Issei felt himself floating away from the water, only to suddenly realize he was flung in the air by Azazel and was currently flying towards the opposite side of the hot springs where the women's baths were.

He didn't even have the time to yell out as he soon landed face-first into the water with an audible and painful splash. As he finally realized what was happening, Issei quickly emerged from under the water while yelling out towards Azazel, who was audibly laughing at the opposite side of the wall.

"GODDAMIT, AZAZEL-SAMA!" Issei's yells echoed through the hot springs. "THIS WAS UNCALLED FOR AND WE BOTH KNOW IT!"

Azazel's laughter only became louder.

"Ara, Issei-kun." a female voice called out from behind Issei, making him turn around towards its owner.

As he faced the source of the voice, he finally remembered where did he end up being thrown. All of Rias' Peerage, as well as Raynare, were all naked and bathing in the hot water. Akeno, Rias and Xenovia were standing, resulting in their bodies being more exposed.

Issei, being the hot-blooded guy he was, immediately widened his eyes and covered his nose, as blood was already gushing from it.

"Were you thrown over by Azazel? Was your body properly washed?" Rias asked as she smiled wryly.

"Ufufu, oh Issei-kun. You're so daring." Akeno giggled as both her and Rias began slowly walking towards him.

He tried to step back, but found his body unresponsive as his mind was clouded by the naked bodies of the two beautiful women before him. It was times like this that being a healthy young man was both a blessing and a curse.

"Issei-kun, I caught you~." Akeno called out as she suddenly embraced Issei from the front with her breasts rubbing against him.

"A-Akeno-san!" Issei tried to protest, albeit weakly. "I-If you cling to me like that…!"

Yet, trying to get away was no use. He wasn't a pervert. Well, not a big one. At least he didn't consider himself to be one, but in a situation such as this, instincts take over. And his instincts were yelling at him to stand still and enjoy the sensation.

But just as he thought that it couldn't get any better…

"Akeno! Get away from my Issei!" Rias' head suddenly popped up over Issei's shoulder as her hands wrapped themselves around his neck, embracing him much like Akeno but from behind.

"No way. I've decided to enjoy the hot springs with Issei-kun." Akeno replied. "I'm already heating up our bodies by clinging like this... Issei-kun's body feels good just by touching it like this..."

Her grip then tightened as her naked body clung even closer to his larger frame. The softness that he felt could hardly be described, but the word 'Heaven' would have been a good comparison.

"Stop it! Issei's body is mine! Who do you think is responsible for making him one of us!? 'Free Piece' or not, in a sense he belongs to me!" Rias exclaimed. "—Aah. Somehow, I'm feeling sensitive. Is this because I'm touching Issei...?"

'Belonging to her?! Since when?!' Issei thought to himself after hearing Rias. 'I agreed on helping her out and joining her Peerage, but I never agreed on having myself controlled!'

Despite his thoughts, Issei couldn't really control his body, so he couldn't talk, even if he wanted to. Rias and Akeno continued with their little argument, all the while pressing their bodies firmer and firmer into Issei's.

A little bit farther away, Asia, Xenovia, Koneko and Raynare were staring at the display before them.

"Hauu, even though I want to enjoy the hot springs with Issei-san too..." Asia pouted as she watched Rias and Akeno press their bodies against Issei.

"As I thought, it'll be an almost impossible task to snatch Issei away from those two." Xenovia said out loud to herself. "I have no choice but to watch from afar for today."

Despite his body being numbed, Issei's mind and senses were still there. Though overwhelmed with the sensations and sights before him, something caught his attention that both confused and worried him.

Koneko appeared to not be doing so good.

It was something he noticed ever since they departed from the Earth and arrived here. This sort of behavior was definitely uncharacteristic for her and was worrying him greatly. However, since things have been a little bit hectic ever since their arrival, he never had the chance to talk with her and find out what's wrong.

Yet, seeing her the way she was right now hurt him. He wanted to help her, but he had no idea how. Koneko submerged half of her head underwater. Her gloomy expression didn't change. She seemed to be lacking the power or will to even look up to Issei. Or anyone, for that matter.

He wanted to go to her right now, but the two, or rather four obstacles that were blocking him both from his front and his back prevented him from doing anything. In a sense, he was trapped.

His body was deemed useless at this point and his blood was escaping from his body at an ever-so-rapid pace. It didn't seem like there was a way to escape his predicament.

Thus, he gave in.

With both his senses and his body numbed, he suddenly felt himself losing consciousness as his limp body remained trapped between two pairs of breasts.

{[Scene Break]}

Eventually, the next day arrived. As it was planned, Rias' Peerage were to begin their training for the 'Rating Game' against Sona and her own Peerage.

In the early morning, Issei and the rest were all gathered in a corner of the Gremory family's huge garden. Everyone was dressed in jerseys, including Azazel, who was to give out the training plans for everyone.

As they sat on the table and seats provided for them, the meeting before the start of the training began without delay.

"Let me say this first." Azazel began as he cleared his throat. "What I'm going to tell you now is a training menu that focuses on things in the immediate future. There are people who produce good results immediately, but there are also those who have no choice but to look at things in the long run."

"However, you are all growing young people. Even if you mistake your direction, you will grow well." Azazel explained, trying his best to encourage them. He then turned towards Rias. "Now then, Rias, you're first."

"From the beginning, you have been a high-spec Devil with everything, including talent, physical ability and magic power." Azazel said. "Even if you live normally as you currently are, those traits will rise and you'll become a candidate for being a highest-grade Devil when you become an adult. However, your wish is to become stronger than you would in that future, right?"

"Yes. I don't want to lose." Rias curtly nodded.

"Very well." Azazel smiled as he handed her a sheet of paper. "Then, follow the training recorded on this sheet exactly, even all the way up to the battle day."

Rias looked at it, then tilted her head in puzzlement. "...This training doesn't seem all that special, though?" she said as she looked up at Azazel.

"Obviously. You already have comprehensive strength." Azazel replied. "On top of basic training, you need to improve your strategy and decision making as [King]. You must utilize your family to the fullest."

As he said that, he then turned to Akeno. "Next is you, Akeno."

"Yes." Akeno said.

"You must accept the blood that flows within you." Azazel bluntly stated, resulting in a frown from Akeno. "I've seen the recorded images of the battle with the Phoenix family. Had you used the power of Fallen Angel within you, you would have easily won the battle with the [Queen] by using lightning."

"...I can do just fine even if I don't depend on that kind of power." Akeno said as she looked away and narrowed her eyes.

"Don't deny yourself. What will you do if you can't accept yourself? In the end, the only thing you can rely on is your own body, right? Denying yourself makes you weak." Azazel explained. "Accept everything about yourself, even the tough and painful things. Your weakness is your current self. Overcome it by the day of the battle. If not, you will become a mere obstruction in future battles. The 'Priestess of Thunder' must become the 'Priestess of Lightning'."

Akeno didn't say anything. She simply remained quiet. It seemed that she was having difficult times coming to terms with what she must do.

Azazel then turned to Kiba. "Next is Kiba."

"Yes." Kiba nodded.

"First, you must maintain 'Balance Breaker' for a full day. If you get used to it, you'll be able to maintain it for a full day in your actual battle form." Azazel instructed. "Your objective is to continue that and to become able to maintain that state for the length of a day. After that, you'll be able to become sufficiently strong by doing basic training like Rias. I'll teach you man-to-man how to handle sword-type 'Sacred Gears' later."

"Very well, I understand." Kiba nodded.

Azazel then turned to Xenovia. "Next, Xenovia."

Xenovia simply nodded.

"To be able to use 'Duranda'l better than you do now... you need to be able to use another 'Holy Sword'." Azazel said.

"Another 'Holy Sword'?" Xenovia rose a brow at Azazel's statement.

"Yeah, a slightly special sword." Azazel grinned at her. His grin disappeared the moment he turned towards Gasper, however.

"Gasper, you're next." Azazel called out to the vampire.

"Y-Yeeeeeeees!" Gasper replied, nervousness evident in his voice.

"See, this is exactly your main issue." Azazel sighed. "Your fear is the thing that is holding you down the most. Your bloodline and your 'Sacred Gear' give you a lot of potential, but your mind and body are holding you back. I've constructed an exclusive program for you that should be able to help you get rid of your fear of large crowds. Even if it's bit by bit, I want you to eventually gain enough confidence to walk out in the public freely."

"Yeeeeeeeeeeeees! I'll try to obtain a spirit that goes for broke!" said Gasper while instinctively inching closer to the cardboard box sitting close to him.

"As for you, Asia." Azazel turned towards the former nun. "Much like Gasper, I want you to improve your body and magic with basic training. Also, your main task will be to strengthen your 'Sacred Gear'."

"Strengthen it?" Issei asked. "Isn't Asia's recovery 'Sacred Gear' already the best one out there? She can heal everything besides sickness and stamina just by touching."

"Yes, you are correct. The speed of her recovery ability is great." Azazel nodded. "However, the problem is the 'touching' part. She can't heal if she doesn't expressly go into close range if an ally is injured."

"So, what you're saying is that she should work on the range of her 'Sacred Gear'?" Issei rubbed his chin. "Is this even possible?"

"It is." Azazel smirked. "It's a bit of an underhanded trick, but to show the true worth of 'Twilight Healing', its effective range must be expanded."

"So, you think she can use it from a much longer distance as well?" a second question was asked by Issei.

"According to the theory based on the data gathered by our organization, yes." confirmed the Fallen Angel Governor. "It should also be possible for the 'Sacred Gear' aura to be issued from the whole body and to use the recovery on all allies within one's surroundings."

"Whoa, she can do that?!" Issei exclaimed. "That would be a huge boost on the battlefield if so!"

"Indeed. However, the problem is that it would seem to heal both enemies and allies without discernment." Azazel explained. "It would be fine if it could distinguish between enemies and allies and heal only allies, but… I'm worried about Asia's own nature."

"Asia's… what are you worried about?" Issei asked as his tone got a bit lower.

"She's a kind person. When seeing an injured enemy on the battlefield, Asia would think in her heart of wanting to heal them too." Azazel narrowed his eyes. "That would obstruct the 'Sacred Gear''s ability to distinguish between enemies and allies. Most likely, Asia wouldn't be able to obtain this distinguishing power. This enlarged healing range that I spoke of just now can be a double-edged sword for this team."

"So, it's no good?" Rias was the one who asked this time.

"With everything taken into consideration, it's a bad idea at this point in time. Even so, you should keep the range expansion in mind." Azazel replied as he turned towards Asia again. A smirk formed on his lips. "That's why I've found another possibility — the power to fire the healing aura."

"Firing it?" Asia tilted her head in confusion. "S-So you mean I would send my healing power to someone that is some distance away from me?"

"Precisely. I assume that with enough training you should be able to directly throw it. For example, if Issei is battling 10 meters away and is injured, you would fire your healing power at him. If what you have used until now is a standard limited field, the one I'm explaining now is a projectile version. You could heal even if you aren't directly touching." came Azazel's elaborate reply.

"Well, that's still quite good!" Issei exclaimed once more. "If Asia can heal us from the back while we are fighting, we'd be able to last much longer!"

"Looks like we are riding the same wave today, Issei." Azazel chuckled as he grinned at the hybrid. "Indeed, with one or two people jumping into the front lines and arranging for the healing Asia and someone to guard her in the back, you'd be able to make the ideal formation."

"It's an easy method, but that's why strong tactical formations are simple. Usually, the method used to heal allies is Phoenix tears or some mixed healing medicine. Asia's Sacred Gear could easily top those with its all-purpose characteristic and reliability." Rias agreed with Azazel.

"That's right. The power of Asia's 'Sacred Gear', which can also heal Devils, could be called this team's distinctive characteristic and weapon. After that is merely a test of Asia's strength." Azazel nodded as he turned towards Asia one last time. "Please finish the basic training properly, okay?"

"Y-Yes! I'll do my best!" Asia said with a voice full of determination, earning another nod as a response from Azazel.

"Next up – Koneko." Azazel cleared his throat.

"… Yes." Koneko took a step forward, a determined look on her face.

"You have nothing to be criticized about, as you possess the elementary traits of offence and defense as a [Rook]. Your physical ability is also not a problem." came Azazel's praises. "However, there are those better at offence in Rias' group than a [Rook] like you."

"… I know that." Koneko responded as she narrowed her eyes slightly. Her fists clenched for a fraction of a second and went unnoticed by mostly everyone with the exception of Issei.

"It goes without saying that the strongest member of the group currently is Issei. I can attest to that. I trained him, after all." both a praise and a humble brag by Azazel. "Immediately after him come Kiba and Xenovia in terms of offensive power."

Koneko didn't say anything, silently urging Azazel to continue.

"Koneko, you will also improve your basics like the others." Azazel instructed. He then rubbed his chin. "Although, I find it odd that your power is lacking. I know for a fact you unleashed your Nekomata abilities and nature, so this shortage of power makes no sense, by all means."

Once again, no response came from the Nekomata in question. The fighting spirit she had displayed previously had vanished, leaving nothing but a gloomy expression on her face.

Issei wanted to say something and cheer her up, but couldn't find the right words to do so. Instead, he opted to stay quiet and talk with her when he had an opportunity to be alone with her.

"Lastly, Issei." Azazel finally turned to Issei.

"Yes." Issei took a step forward.

"Your training will most likely sound and look familiar." Azazel said. "Your strength and abilities are outstanding. You are able to control your 'Sacred Gear' and your elements to an impressive degree as well."

'I wonder if that's truly the case.' Issei clenched his fists.

"However, despite all of this, there is a major flaw that you are yet to overcome." Azazel sighed. "You ignore your true nature and hold yourself back to an unreasonable degree. I understand that you don't want to accidentally hurt anyone, but you can't run away from your powers and heritage forever."

"I know. I'm well aware." came Issei's silent response as he looked at the ground.

"That's why I want you to get back to your roots and start from Square One." Azazel explained. "Your Dragon powers, your Nekomata powers, as well as your nature… I want you to combine all of these traits of yours and use them all to tap into your power and hold out for as long as you can against the one that is going to train you."

"I see." Issei nodded. "And who might that be?"

"Well, he's no stranger. You've definitely met him before." Azazel smirked.

"Who's he, Azazel-sama?" Issei asked.

The smirk on Azazel's face only grew. He raised his right hand above his head and snapped his fingers audibly.

As he did that, a giant shadow appeared over him and Rias' Peerage. As they all looked up, they saw a dark figure heading towards them at extreme speed. Before any of them could react, the giant entity landed in front of them as the ground shook due to the entity's giant body.

A cloud of dust danced in the air, obscuring the creature from Rias' Peerage, making it nearly impossible for them to identify.

As the dust settled, they all looked towards the entity as their eyes widened.

In front of them stood a fifteen meters tall purple dragon.

The dragon seemed to be humanoid, standing on two legs. His body was covered in purple draconic scales, with the exception of his belly and some parts of his tail. Yellow horns were sticking out of his triangular head.

His keen, red eyes with a lavender sclera and his serrated yet sharp canine teeth only added to his intimidating look. His hands ended with claws with long sharp, yellow nails, and large bat-like wings with rigid tips spread out from his back. On top of it all, he wore black armored pauldrons that extended down to his arms as well as a loincloth decorated with metallic accessories.

Rias and the rest of the group all stared at the dragon in awe. Issei's lips curled into a sly smile upon seeing the dragon in front of him.

"This is your teacher, Issei!" Azazel said as he stood up from his chair. "The Former Dragon King, 'Blaze Meteor Dragon' – Tannin!"

The dragon, Tannin, turned his head towards Azazel as he crossed his hands and spoke.

"Azazel, you have some nerve openly entering Devil territory." Tannin said in his deep, grumbling voice.

"Hah, I've properly gotten the personal permission of the Maou-sama and have entered this territory fairly, you know? Do you have a complaint, Tannin?" Azazel shrugged as he turned towards the dragon without a hint of fear being evident in his voice.

"Hmph. Well, it's fine. I specially came here because of Sirzechs' request." Tannin responded. "Don't forget your surroundings, Fallen Angel Governor."

"Of course, of course." Azazel shook his head as he chuckled.

"It's been a while, Issei." Tannin said as he turned towards Issei. Judging by the tone of his voice, it was evident he and Issei were no strangers. "Ddraig, you can hear me, can't you?"

[Indeed. It's been a while, Tannin.] Ddraig responded audibly so that everyone around Issei could hear him.

"It's been a while, Tannin-sama." Issei said as he bowed to the dragon standing before him.

"Issei, do you two know each other?" Rias asked.

"Yes. Back when I was being trained here, Tannin-sama was one of my mentors." Issei explained briefly. "It was what, five years ago?"

"Issei, you have been trained by this dragon?" asked Xenovia as she stared at Tannin with an awed expression.

"Yeah, Azazel-sama and Sirzechs-sama thought it'd be a good idea." Issei nodded.

[A mentor like Tannin can't be found everywhere. After all, he is a former Dragon King. A part of the 'Six Great Dragon Kings', to be precise.] Ddraig explained audibly as the two green jewels on Issei's hands shone.

"Six? Are they not five?" asked Xenovia.

"Tannin became a Devil, so the 'Six Great Dragon Kings' became the 'Five Great Dragon Kings'. Even among the current reincarnated Devils, he is Ultimate-Class. A highest grade Devil." Azazel explained. "'Blaze Meteor Dragon' Tannin. It's even said that his breath of fire is equal to the impact of a meteorite. He's one of the few legendary dragons that are still active right now."

Issei's smile only grew as he got a determined look on his face.

"Sorry, Tannin, but I'll need you to help Issei out in his training. I want you to bring out the power of the dragon lying dormant within him." Azazel scratched his head as he turned towards Tannin. "With you as his mentor, I'm sure he'd be able to tap into the powers of his nature in no time."

"I see." Tannin nodded at Azazel. His gaze shifted back to Issei. "So, no restraints, then?"

"None. Show me no mercy." Issei smirked as he clenched his hands into fists.

Rias and the rest of her Peerage stared at Issei in shock. They already knew he had power and confidence, but seeing him like this was definitely new to them.

Koneko especially stared in awe at Issei's determination. To her, he was already powerful beyond words. And yet, seeing him so willing and determined to train even harder and become even stronger only made her doubt her own power even more.

She clenched her hands into a fist once more as she looked at the ground. Her vision became a bit blurry. Realizing that a tear was about to fall off from her eye, she shook her head and wiped it off before anyone could see her.

"I see you haven't changed at all." Tannin's voice sounded amused. "Very well, then! Prepare yourself well, Issei!"

"The period is about 20 days in human world time." Azazel said. "Everyone, please work hard and take your trainings seriously. I expect to see great results from all of you."

Saying that, Azazel turned around and with his hand waving, he began to walk away from Rias' Peerage.

"Miss Rias. Can you lend me the mountain over there?" Tannin asked as he pointed towards a mountain in the distance. "I'll be bringing Issei over there."

"Of course. Please teach him well." Rias nodded, turning to the rest of her group immediately afterwards. "Everyone, each of us will now do our respective training regimens. I hope you all do well."

With that said, everyone dispersed and went on their respective ways. Issei and Tannin were the only ones left in the garden.

"I'll meet you there then, Tannin-sama." Issei said as he spread his dragon wings.

"I'm giving you five minutes advance before I start to hunt you." Tannin said. "Make sure they're worth it."

Issei merely nodded. With a flap of his wings, he launched himself towards the mountain Tannin pointed earlier, ready to begin his training.

{[Scene Break]}

The Summer vacation that students longed for. The vacation they all looked forward to. A vacation filled with fun, meetings with friends and carefree days spent in leisure and lazing around.

Or at least, that's what it is for any normal student. For Issei, however, things were different.

Several days had passed since his training regime. Several days of non-stop training with Tannin, one of the former Great Dragon Kings.

Destruction, fires, craters and fallen trees were all around them. The mountain they were training on had somehow managed to remain whole through all these days of intense training and violent attacks from the both of them.

On this particular day, Issei was focusing on his defense and instincts, trying his hardest to dodge Tannin's attacks and hardly delivering any of his own. Fire blasts were fired at him every couple of seconds from different sides and angles, attempting to catch him by surprise.

Issei, however, managed to block and dodge any and all attacks in the nick of time. His body was almost untouched by the attacks fired by Tannin. The one thing about him that made it evident he was being attacked were his clothes, which had bits and pieces burnt off.

Due to the intense, almost non-stop training, both Issei and Tannin were starting to get tired. Both were unaware of how much time had passed since their training began, but they were both certain of one thing – at least several days had gone by.

Yet, they were not wasted. It was evident Issei was improving, and fast. Despite some shortcomings on his side, he was starting to use more and more of his powers, even learning some new things while at it.

For him, it was like when he was first trained years ago by the former Dragon King. And much like all these years ago, he was steadily improving himself and his abilities yet again.

As the day progressed, Tannin finally decided to let both himself and Issei take a breather and temporarily take a rest from the training. Despite his initial rejection, Issei agreed on getting a rest.

As Tannin flew away from the mountain, Issei breathed out a sigh and sat down on the hard ground. The moment his bottom touched the smoothened surface of the mountain, he finally realized just how tired and hungry he was.

He looked around himself, only to realize the sun had almost set, rendering it too late to start seeking out food. He sighed once more as his stomach rumbled loudly.

"Ah, you're taking a break." a voice suddenly called out behind Issei.

Issei immediately jumped up and turned towards the one that called out, ready to fight. The moment he saw who the person was though, he sighed yet again and relaxed a little.

"Relax, I'm not here to train you any further." said the Fallen Angel Governor, Azazel as he smirked at Issei.

{[Scene Break]}

"So go~od!" Issei cried out as he took another bite.

Currently, he was sitting down on a big rock, eating a rice ball off a box which Azazel had brought for him. Issei munched on the rice ball quickly and greedily, evidently hungry due to the training.

"Tannin seems to be doing a good job, such a hunger is quite normal for a dragon." Azazel smirked. "So, it's going well, I assume?"

"Yeah!" Issei answered as he gulped down the last bit of his rice ball. "Tannin-sama is not holding back at all. I already feel myself becoming stronger! Not by much, but I'm getting there."

"Heh, I knew this regime would be good for you." Azazel nodded. "Whether you're afraid of your own power or not, I was sure that you wouldn't hesitate to use it against Tannin. After all, we both know just how powerful he is."

"Yeah, I believe he told me his power had been compared to the one of a Maou at one point." Issei said as he grabbed another rice ball from the box. "I can't tell if he's as powerful as Vali was, but he's definitely powerful."

"Speaking of Vali, I'm impressed how well you managed to hold off against him." Azazel said. "It's been a while since I've seen anyone completely shatter his armor."

"Really?" Issei turned towards Azazel as he gulped down the bite of the rice ball. "You're impressed? Really?"

"Of course." Azazel nodded. "After all, you faced off against the most powerful Hakuryuukou to ever exist to date. Not only that, but you managed to crack his armor. On top of it all, you even managed to corner him, almost forcing him to use his 'Juggernaut Drive'. If this isn't impressive, I don't know what is."

A brief silence followed Azazel's statement. Issei stared at the ground beneath him with a grim expression on his face. The front bangs of his hair covered his eyes, making it impossible to see his eyes.

Not too long after, he finally spoke up.

"Honestly, I feel like I lost the fight against him." Issei said quietly. "I felt it in his attacks. He was holding back. He was just toying with me, testing me."

"In the beginning, yes, it was evident." Azazel nodded. "But the moment you shattered his armor, I could feel him getting serious. I'm sure you felt that too."

"Hey, Azazel-sama, may I ask you a question?" Issei ignored the previous statement, opting to ask Azazel something instead.

"Uh, yeah, sure." Azazel blinked in confusion.

"Why did I get angry at seeing Vali like this?" Issei asked. "Both you and I know I was holding my powers back. Both you and I know I was trying my hardest to stay calm and collected ever since that happened. So then, why?"

Once again, a brief silence followed. Azazel rubbed his chin as he quietly hummed, thinking about his response. Issei also didn't say anything as he was waiting for a response.

"Well, it should be obvious." Azazel finally said, breaking the silence. "The reason is as clear as day, Issei. Let me answer your question with a question on my own. What is the point of your training regime?"

"Getting in sync with my powers and learning how to use them?" Issei guessed.

"Close, but not the answer I had in mind." Azazel shook his head. "Sure, learning how to control your powers is a part of it, but it's not the main reason."

"Then, what is it?" Issei asked.

"It's obvious – I want you to come to terms with who you are and what you are." Azazel explained. "You tried to escape from what you are. You tried to live peacefully and normally. But Issei, some people are not meant to live a normal life."

No response came from Issei. He didn't want to admit it, but the Fallen Angel was right. Issei truly wasn't meant to live normally. The events in his past didn't matter.

And despite knowing that, it still pained him to admit it.

"No matter how much you try to ignore it, you can't deny the facts – you are a descendant of the Red Dragon Emperor – Ddraig as well as a descendant of the Nekoshou species." Azazel said. "It doesn't matter how much you run away or how hard you try to hide it. It is who you are, Issei."

Once again, no response came from Issei which urged Azazel to continue.

"So, once you come to terms with that, you'll realize the reason for your outburst is clear." Azazel continued. "Vali is the Hakuryuukou, the host of the Vanishing Dragon – Ddraig's sworn enemy."

Still no response from Issei.

"And as Ddraig's descendant, Ddraig's hatred towards the Vanishing Dragon flows within your veins as it did in his." Azazel carried on. "Your heritage, your powers, your role as the Sekiryuutei – they're not things you can simply run away from. This is who you are, Issei. This is what you must come to terms with."

"… It really is pointless, isn't it?" Issei asked after yet another brief silence. "Trying to live normally, I mean. I'm just destined to attract trouble, aren't I?"

"Heh, it's in a dragon's nature, yes." Azazel chuckled. "You can't escape it. Might as well make the most out of it and fight for the peace you desire. But, for that, you'll need power. And for the power, you'll need to accept your nature."

"Yeah, I guess you're right." Issei nodded.

"Besides, I hardly doubt that will happen again." Azazel said. "You're stronger than you were back then, Issei. And not to mention, you have people close to you all the time now."

"Yeah, that's true." Issei took out another rice ball from the box. "Though, I'll make damn sure it doesn't come down to it. I can't have them worrying about me when they all have their own problems to solve."

Azazel shook his head, but didn't say anything. After all, he knew what was Issei like. Despite his heritage and nature, he was kind-hearted, which was not all-that-common for dragons nor Nekoshou for that matter.

Despite it, it was a trait that made Issei who he was, something that no one could really change about him.

Azazel shook his head once more. As long as his kindness wasn't in the way of his training, there was no issue at all.

"Next time I see Vali, I'll defeat him fair and square!" Issei proclaimed before he bit into the rice ball in his hand. Azazel smiled at his determination.

"That's what I like to hear." Azazel nodded. "Anyways, Issei, let's change the topic for a bit there." Azazel's tone suddenly changed to a bit more formal one.

"Uh, yeah, sure." Issei nodded as he turned towards Azazel, surprised at the sudden shift in his tone.

"What do you think of Akeno?" asked Azazel out of the blue.

"That's quite sudden, Azazel-sama." Issei scratched the back of his head with his free hand. "Well, what do I think of her? She's a good senpai, a beautiful woman and a nice person overall."

"I see." Azazel nodded while humming.

"What's with the sudden question though? Where did that come from?" Issei asked, dumbfounded.

"Well, you see, I have to watch over her in the place of a friend of mine." Azazel explained as he scratched the back of his head. "I just wanted to make sure you get along with her."

"You mean Akeno-san's father, right?" Issei rose his brow. "I assume he's a subordinate of yours?"

"Rather than a subordinate, Baraqiel is a comrade from ancient times like Shemhaza." Azazel explained. "A friend, if you will. We did a lot of stupid things together. So, before I realized it, everyone around me besides myself had gotten wives and kids."

"Well, you still had all these other women, didn't you?" Issei smirked. "I wouldn't feel bad about it, if I were you."

"Heh, yeah, you're right." Azazel smirked as well. "Well, leaving that aside, I'm very concerned about Akeno. Though, to Baraqiel and Akeno, it may be none of my business."

Issei simply nodded, but didn't say anything. Azazel, however, continued.

"In any case, I'm thinking of perhaps entrusting Akeno to you." he suddenly said.

"Huh?" Issei almost choked on his rice ball. "Entrusting her… to me? How? Why? What?"

"Well, you see, there's this thing about you that really sets you apart of other dragons." Azazel began with his explanation. "It's the fact that you're not as selfish as some others. Rather, you're kind. You also have a strong drive to protect those you care about."

"Well, yeah, that's true, but I doubt I'm the only such dragon." Issei shook his head. "Besides, I'm not just a dragon."

"Well, a Nekoshou doesn't quite do what you are prone to, either." Azazel said. "Regardless of what you are, for the current matter at hand, it's important what you're like. And honestly, I don't think there is anyone better than you to entrust Akeno to."

"But, is this really okay?" Issei asked. "You said it yourself – I attract trouble. So, would Akeno-san- No, would anyone be safe around me?"

"It's given you would attract troubles, you're literally one of a kind." Azazel said. "A hybrid such as you is unheard of. By no means should you be able to defy the laws of physics as you currently do, and yet here you are."

"The '200%', is it?" Issei asked. "Yeah, I don't quite get it, either. This shouldn't really be a thing, should it?"

"You don't have to get it. You have to accept it." Azazel said. "Surely, someone like you would hold a much greater potential than any of us initially expected."

"That's beside the point, isn't it?" Issei asked, suddenly realizing they went off-track.

"Not at all, it is something that I had to address anyway." Azazel shook his head. "I'm thinking of entrusting Akeno to you exactly because of what you are. If there is someone out there who would be able to protect her, it would have to be you."

"I understand. I'll protect Akeno-san!" Issei proclaimed with a curt nod. "And not just her, obviously. I'll also protect Koneko-chan. And Asia. As well as everyone else, too."

"Alright. Well, I'll entrust the matter of Akeno to you." Azazel nodded with a smile. His face then became serious once again. "More importantly - the problem is Koneko."

"Hm?" Issei hummed as he turned towards Azazel. "What's wrong with Koneko-chan?"

"There's nothing that can be done about it." Azazel sighed audibly. "She's impatient—or rather, she feels doubt in her power."

'Still?' Issei thought. 'I thought she got rid of her doubts back before the Phoenix Rating Game…'

"She overdid the training that I gave her. This morning, she collapsed." Azazel said.

Hearing this, Issei immediately jumped up with a worried expression on his face.

"C-Collapsed?!" Issei asked. "I-Is she okay?!"

"Well, she's fine per say." Azazel replied. "She's not injured, but she put quite the strain on her physical strength."

"Will she be fine?" Issei asked, his tone a bit calmer, despite his expression still showing worry. "Can't Asia treat her?"

"Asia can treat injuries, but she can't do anything about physical strength." Azazel explained. "Overworking in particular certainly hurts one's physical strength and has adverse effects. Because the time left until the game is limited, that's dangerous."

Issei didn't say anything. He rubbed his chin as he sat back down on the rock he was previously sat on. He was absolutely certain of one thing – whatever the reason for Koneko's collapse was, it definitely had something to do with her behavior since their arrival in the Underworld.

What was it that was tormenting her, though? Issei had no idea whatsoever.

"Now then, we should go." Azazel clapped his hands, attracting Issei's attention and pulling him out of his little 'trance'.

"Go?" Issei asked. "Go where?"

"I was told to take you back just this once. You'll return to the Gremory annex only once." Azazel explained. "You'll return here first thing tomorrow morning to continue your training."

"Huh?" came Issei's confused answer. "Azazel-sama, from whom did the order for me to return come from?"

"Rias' mother." Azazel replied.

Issei blinked. Thousand more questions suddenly formed in his head.

{[Scene Break]}

"Yes, turn there. That's no good. The sharpness isn't good." Venelana Gremory said. "Come on, Issei-san, do it from the beginning without acting stupefied."

Currently, she and Issei were in the annex that was detached from the main Gremory residence. To Issei's surprise, he got called down from the mountain for a dance practice with her out of the blue.

Since it was his first time ever trying to dance like this, Issei was no good. Additionally, the tiredness from his training session with Tannin didn't aid him at all, leaving him completely disoriented and hardly allowing him to focus on his footwork.

"Shall we take a short break?" Venelana asked, quick to recognize the fact that Issei was putting more strain on himself than he should.

"I'm sorry, it's rare for me to be this tired." Issei apologized as he sat down on a couch after given Venelana's permission. "I'm usually energetic, but even I have my limits as it seems."

"It's okay, Issei-san, don't worry about it." Venelana shook her head as she smiled to him. "It's completely understandable. It's been a week, after all."

Issei blinked. Has it really been a week since his training began? He was certain he had lost track of time while training… but a week?

"It's hard to believe, I know." Venelana said. "You quickly lose your perception of time when you're busy paying mind to various other things."

"Ah, yes, you're right." Issei nodded.

"Speaking of which, is your training going well, Issei-san?" Venelana asked.

"Ah, yes, I can already feel the results!" Issei nodded curtly with a smile. "Tannin-sama is making sure I don't slack off even for a second. If I keep it up, I might get the results I'm hoping for well before the Rating Game takes place."

"I see." Venelana clapped her hands as she smiled at him. "You really do work hard! I'm glad to see this."

Issei scratched the back of his head as his cheeks reddened a bit. For whatever reason, this woman's compliments always left him speechless.

"U-Umm, speaking of training… may I ask you something?" Issei asked.

"Of course, what is it?" Venelana tilted her head slightly, her smile never leaving her face.

"Why am I the only one doing this? What about Kiba or Gasper?" Issei asked her, referring to the dance practices they were currently doing.

"Kiba Yuuto-san has already mastered these sorts of techniques. As expected of a [Knight]." Venelana explained. "Gasper-san is a member of a distinguished vampire family. He may behave unreliably, but he at least knows etiquette."

'Ah, figured that'd be the case.' Issei thought to himself.

"The problem is Issei-san." Venelana continued. "It's true that you're not exactly 'commoner' per say, but you're still lacking the etiquette that's necessary to acquire in the High-class Devil society. Sooner or later, you'll have to make an appearance with Rias in high society eventually. You have to remember customary practices even a little during your stay in the Underworld."

"A high society? Me?" Issei rose his brows.

"That kind of thing is still talk of what may happen." Venelana said. "You're making quite the name for yourself already, after all, Issei-san. You shouldn't be surprised when you start to attract attention towards yourself."

"Attract attention, huh?" Issei shook his head. "I don't think I really deserve it, though. I haven't really done that much to deserve any of it."

"Even if you think so, ever since you joined Rias, you've managed feats very few would be able to in such a short amount of time." Venelana said, praising him once more. "You've impressed quite a lot of Devils. I'm certain many of them had taken an interest in your unnatural heritage, too."

"Even then, I don't think I really deserve a spot in high society." Issei admitted. "But I guess you're right. Besides, there's no harm in learning etiquette, is there?"

"None at all." Venelana smiled. "I'm sure your parents will be overjoyed when they see you have learned it, too. You do remember that they gave us their approval to train you in it, don't you?"

"Ah, of course." Issei nodded. "Zeoticus-sama mentioned it on the night we arrived. Thank you for taking your time in training me, Venelana-sama!" as he said that, he got up from the couch and bowed.

"You're very welcome, Issei-san. It's a pleasure to see you working hard." Venelana nodded. "Please, if you need anything during your stay here, don't hesitate to ask me or anyone else from our family."

As she said that, Issei suddenly remembered something that was weighing on his mind for a while now. Perhaps she could help him out with it?

"Actually, may I ask you a question?" Issei asked her as he sat back down on the couch.

"Of course." Venelana nodded.

"It's about Koneko-chan." Issei said. "Is she okay? I heard she collapsed this morning."

"Yes. It was just ordinary overworking, so she should recover slowly if she rests her body for one or two days." Venelana assured him.

"I'm worried about her." Issei admitted. "Ever since we arrived, she's been acting strange."

"That girl is doing her best to face her own existence and power right now." Venelana explained. "It's a difficult problem. However, she won't be able to advance forward if she doesn't find the answer herself."

"Is it about her Nekoshou powers?" Issei asked, earning a surprised look from Venelana.

"Ah, so you know about that." Venelana blinked.

"I learned of it recently." Issei nodded. "I found out me and her were raised together, in a sense. My memories were a bit tampered with though, so I had no idea."

"I see." Venelana said as she slowly nodded. "So you're aware of what happened to her and her sister?"

"Sirzechs-sama explained it to me when he and my parents restored mine and Koneko-chan's memories." Issei explained. "She's still having troubles accepting herself for what she is?"

"Indeed." Venelana confirmed with a nod. "Whatever it is that's holding her back, it's something serious. However, until she finds the answer herself, we can't do anything to help her."

Issei didn't say anything. He narrowed his eyes and looked down towards the floor, unable to say anything.

"Right then, I suggest we continue with the practice, for the time being." Venelana said as she stood up. "What do you think, Issei-san?"

"Yes, gladly." Issei said as he stood up as well.

"Good. Now then, please do your best." Venelana smiled.

"Yes!" came Issei's reply.

{[Scene Break]}

Eventually, Issei and Venelana's dance practice ended. With it out of the way, Issei exited the annex and made his way towards the main Gremory residence for a shower and a rest.

He initially considered returning to the mountain and spending the night there, but Venelana insisted he rests up well and spend his night in the residence in comfort.

It wasn't like he wanted to argue, so he accepted her offer immediately.

As he was walking through the Gremory residence's halls, Issei eventually met up with Rias who was both surprised and happy to see him.

"Issei!" she exclaimed as she ran up to him and hugged him.

"Ah, Buchou, nice to see you." he said as he hugged her back lightly.

"It's been lonely without you, you know?" Rias said as she finally stepped away from him. "I didn't realize how dependent we were on you until you left us in order to train."

"Yeah, I've missed everyone, too." Issei replied. "Training with Tannin-sama is rewarding, but being unable to talk with anyone has been really stressful."

"Well, a little endurance is needed by all of us." Rias nodded. "We have to be strong. Issei, do your best in your mountain seclusion with Tannin!"

"Of course! That's the plan!" Issei responded, determination evident in his voice.

He then remembered something that he wanted to check on as soon as possible.

"Um, Buchou, how is Koneko-chan?" Issei asked.

Rias' face suddenly became gloomier. Her smile disappeared, a frown taking its place.

"Follow me." she beckoned as she began walking towards somewhere.

Issei immediately went after her.

{[Scene Break]}

After walking for a while, they finally arrived in front of a door. The door was marked with a black cat paw, signifying that the door was leading to Koneko's room.

As they stood in front of it, Rias turned towards Issei and spoke.

"I finished talking with her a bit earlier. Akeno is still inside, I believe." Rias said. "If you want to check up on her, go on ahead. Do enter quietly, though. She might be asleep."

"I understand. Thank you, Buchou." Issei nodded as he grabbed the door's handle.

Quietly pushing the door, he entered the enormous room, trying to make as little sounds as possible. The moment he entered, he turned towards the enormous bed situated at the opposite end of the room.

He closed the door behind him and approached the bed. Surely enough, Akeno was there sitting on the left side of it. Koneko was laying down on said bed, her eyes half-opened. Her cat ears were clearly visible from a distance, making it obvious she was lacking the power to hide them.

Akeno turned towards Issei and gave him a bitter smile, though she didn't say anything. Issei nodded at her and walked closer to the bed, finally ending up on the right side of the bed, right across of Akeno.

Koneko followed Issei with her eyes, but she didn't turn her head towards him, as if ashamed to face him. Issei paid it no mind – he was aware something was tormenting her, even if he wasn't sure what exactly was it.

He examined Koneko's condition, trying to find any sorts of wounds on her body. Fortunately, there were none.

"Are you okay, Koneko-chan?" Issei asked as he sat down on a chair situated right behind him. "Do you hurt anywhere?"

Koneko shook her head, but didn't say anything. Issei sighed quietly and shook his head as well.

"When I first heard that you collapsed this morning, I got quite concerned." Issei said. "Azazel-sama and Venelana-sama told me about what happened and what caused it."

Koneko kept quiet.

"I don't know what's tormenting you, Koneko-chan." Issei said sadly. "It should go without saying that whatever it is that's holding you back, me and everyone else will always be there for you. We'll always be there to support you when you need it."

Once again, Koneko said nothing, urging Issei to keep going.

"Whatever it is that's weighing you down, overworking yourself is no good. If you don't take care of your body properly…" Issei tried his best to explain, only to realize he was about to contradict himself. "Then again, maybe I'm not the right person to be telling you this, especially considering my training regime…"

"…I want to…" a silent mutter came out of Koneko, finally breaking her silence. Unfortunately, it was way too quiet for Issei to hear.

"Hm? What was that?" Issei asked her to repeat herself as he got a bit closer to her.

"…I want to become strong." Koneko repeated, finally facing Issei with tears threatening to fall from her eyes. "Like Yuuto-senpai, Xenovia-senpai, Akeno-san… and Issei-senpai, I want to make my spirit and body strong."

Issei blinked, unable to respond.

"But Koneko-chan, you're getting stronger." Issei said as he put his hand over hers. "I can tell you've been practicing Senjutsu ever since the Phoenix 'Rating Game'. You're definitely stronger than what you were. Why are you still worried about this?"

"…Everyone is improving much faster…" Koneko mumbled. "Gya-kun is also becoming strong. I don't have a healing power like Asia-senpai either… At this rate, what can I do to benefit anyone? I'm useless…"

"Koneko-chan…" Issei called out to her sadly. "You have more than enough power to protect everyone you hold dear. I know for a fact you have a lot of potential."

"…No, I can't control it." Koneko shook her head as tears began falling down her face and onto the bedsheets. "…Despite Issei-senpai's trainings, despite my tries, I'm still afraid. I still can't control it… my Nekomata power."

Issei found himself unable to answer. It was as if he had a lump down his throat, making it impossible for any sounds to come from him.

"…If I were to use it in the state I'm in, just like Nee-sama, I will…" tears kept falling down her pale face. "No, I can't allow this to happen! I don't want this to happen!"

As she said that, she finally broke down. She began to cry harder as she covered her eyes with her hands. She was unable to speak due to the constant sobs she let out.

Issei tried to calm her down but ultimately failed. He was still unable to say anything. He felt like he was going to break down too if he was to even make a sound.

Seeing her like this pained him. He knew what she had to go through when they got separated as children. He knew how hellish her life was at one point. He knew just how kind and gentle this girl was on the inside behind the emotionless façade she wore seemingly all the time.

Seeing her cry like this had to be one of the most painful things he'd have to endure.

"Issei-kun, please leave the rest to us." Akeno suddenly called out to Issei.

He looked up at her, then back at Koneko.

"B-But…" he tried to argue, his voice strained.

"You're a kind person. But, it's also important to sometimes keep your distance just a little." Akeno explained. "Me and Koneko-chan are in similar situations, we have to overcome this together. If one can't accept all of oneself and can't understand it, one can't move forward. Koneko-chan and I understand this in our heads. But… our courage is just slightly not enough yet. Please wait just a little longer. Koneko-chan and I will definitely get through this. Definitely—"

Issei looked at Koneko once more. He gripped her hand a bit tighter, as if to silently assure her he was still with her.

Eventually, he nodded his head.

"I understand." he said quietly as he nodded. "Koneko-chan, I believe in you. I know you can overcome everything in your path. Even if you find any difficulties, I'll be with you every step you take. It's the least I can do to make up for all these years I was apart from you."

As he said all of this, Issei let go of her hand. He gently stroked her head for a second before standing up from the chair. He then turned towards Akeno.

"You too, Akeno-san." he said. "You're also very strong. I know you can get through anything in your path, as well. I'm certain of it."

Akeno stared at him, but didn't say anything.

"I, too, will overcome my own trials." Issei said as he began walking towards the door. "For my sake, and for the sake of everyone close to me, be it friend or mentor."

With that, he opened the door and left the room, closing the door behind him.

As he returned to the hallway, he noticed that Rias was nowhere to be found. Without thinking much of it, he began walking towards his own room, intending to take a long rest and return to the mountain as soon as the next day's morning arrives.

'I can no longer doubt myself.' he thought to himself, his hands balled into fists. 'I have to get stronger. For myself. For Koneko-chan. For everyone.'

{[Scene End]}

Been a while, hasn't it?

Of course it has, it's been 2 FUCKING YEARS! WHAT THE FUCK, XEROZ?! DOESN'T THIS STORY MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU?!

Well, it does. It still does, surprisingly. And so do you guys.

As I mentioned in the A/Ns at the beginning of this chapter, I've been busy. Very, very busy. And I don't think this will change anytime soon. As I get older, I get more and more responsibilities and less free time to do things that I enjoy, such as writing this (or any of my other) story.
I hate that it's happening, but it is, and I have to accept it.

I was considering quitting writing altogether at one point. Suffice to say, I decided against it. There are many stories I want to tell, most of them original. So, quitting writing wouldn't be of much help with that, so this means I get to continue.

That being said, I know the update took way too long, and I apologize. I'd completely understand if you guys are mad about this or just gave up on this story altogether, I'd understand that.
If you're still here though – thank you! You mean the world to me and I'm so happy to have you here! Your support is greatly appreciated!

On the topic of this chapter – I tried to make it extra long to reward the patience. I hope it was worth it, as it reached nearly 17 000 words. It took me a while and it took me a lot of going back and forth fixing this and that, so I hope it has been worth it.

I think I'll try to keep the next chapter a bit shorter, since this was a bit of a hassle to write due to its size and sheer word count. But I might change my mind in the last second and make the next chapter even longer. Who knows?

Obviously, I'll try not to take so long with the next update. No promises and no deadline, I'm just saying that I'll try.

Now, onto something else entirely – I have a plan for this story.

I was re-reading some of the older chapters that I've written just to make sure I don't create any new contradictions as I keep on adding content. As I went back, I noticed a lot, and I mean A LOT of things which I now find absurd and weird.

I started this story nearly 5 years ago. 5 years is plenty of time to change and mature. Naturally, I found the notebook where I had written down the ideas I had for this story. As I went through them, I realized that they might've seemed good to the 2015 me, but they definitely don't seem good to the current me.

That being said, here are some things I intend to do with this story:

1. Rewrite the old chapters, up until 22-23. This could either take a lot of time or very short. Depends on my schedule and willingness to rewrite them.

2. Retcon some of the story plot points and segments. I know what you're thinking – this would completely change the story, wouldn't it? Well, no, I don't think it will. The stuff I'll be retconning will mostly be about God being alive and Issei being religious. I don't know where did these things come from back when I was writing previous chapters, but alas, they're there. And as soon as I can, I'll retcon them. Should be around the same time I get to rewriting old chapters, whenever that may be. Trust me, though. This will not really change the direction the story is going for. I still have a general idea on where I'm going with this and God's presence doesn't really play a big role in it.

That's all I have planned for this story up until now. As for my other DxD stories – they remain side-projects which I'll work on whenever I feel like it. For the time being, this story and my Pokémon story are going to be my main concerns.

Another thing – I might start an Elsword story which will serve mostly as a practice in writing SoL stuff. This might happen either soon, sometime in the future, or never. If it happens, I'll let you guys know. I'll try not to get distracted too much by it, too.

This about covers everything I had to tell to you guys.

Sorry once more for taking so long with this chapter, it really wasn't my intention to do so! It's finally here, so I hope you all enjoyed it!

Once again, thank you all for sticking with me. I honestly don't deserve you guys and I appreciate each and every Review, PM or envelope you guys sent towards me regarding my stories. Your interest means a lot to me and I thank you all for it!

As always, huge thanks to my Beta Reader Agent of The Divine One. Thank you very much for your help and for putting up with me and my slow updates!

Feel free to point out typos and grammatical errors. You help me out greatly by doing so!

Stay safe and strong in these tiring times. Stay home, wash your hands, keep your distance and follow the safety tips. We can pull through the pandemic, everyone!

'Stay awesome!'
