To Make A Choice
Blaise sat on the steps of Hogwarts. The sun was setting over the forest and it was a beautiful sight to watch. He wouldn't be able to watch it for much longer. The school year was drawing to a close, and he would be leaving Hogwarts for the last time.
To what kind of world, he didn't know.
The Dark Lord was gaining strength, and power, and he had a stronghold that Blaise wasn't sure even the strongest of wizards could break.
Even Draco was scared, and that scared Blaise, because Draco never showed his fear. Oh he felt it, quite often too, but he'd never let others see it.
Now he wasn't even attempting to hide it.
Blaise hated the Dark Lord. There was a fiery pain in his gut every time he thought about the reptile that decided he could just… destroy everything in his path. It was stupid, that a cruel, despicably evil being, could just take over without pause.
Even Dumbledore hadn't been able to defeat him, so really, what chance did Potter have?
It was getting darker, and still Blaise didn't move. He knew he'd be in trouble if the Carrows caught him out after dark, their rules were much stricter than the rules had ever been before, and even on the Slytherins, they didn't hold their wands.
Horrible bastards.
It was just one example of why the Dark Lord shouldn't be allowed to rule. Who puts people like that in a school?
And Snape… Blaise didn't know what to make of Snape. He ghosted around the corridors, looking paler everyday, as he ran the school in the Dark Lord's name.
Blaise had lost all respect for his one favourite professor.
It sucked. All of it sucked, and the uncertainty and fear… that sucked the most.
Sighing to himself, Blaise forced himself to his feet. He wanted to rebel, to stay outside and pretend like being caught didn't bother him, but he couldn't.
There was a reason he wasn't a Gryffindor, after all.
Blaise knew when to pick his battles.
And a battle was coming. Blaise knew that if nothing else, Potter would try. He probably wouldn't succeed, but he'd try, because it was who he was.
Blaise found himself unsettled that he didn't know which side of the battle he would be on.
And if it would cost him his life, should he choose the wrong one.
