Chapter 61: Hidden Fangs – Unwavering Hopes
Bommer's Ace loomed over Rua, making even the sea of purple flames around him seem insignificant. For a moment the youth forgot it was still his turn as Bommer's control of the Duel hadn't wavered the slightest. Giant Bomber AIRRAID's presence made an unpleasant feeling return. The feeling was just like it was back in the Fortune Cup – powerless against an opponent that could play around his deck no matter what he did.
Rua looked up at the colossal bomber and recalled how deadly its' effect could be. A reactive strategy and defensive play would be disastrous.
Rua's life-points were displayed at 2400 – not a bad amount but against AIRRAID they would inevitably decrease. The question was by how much? Given the card he'd just played – Deformer Speed Unit, he'd be able to draw a new card without taking any damage from the new monster. Maybe that would give him an answer.
The metal fighter's red eyes looked down on him and Rua tensed up. It wasn't just a monster – it was practically a flying fortress given its' size and amount of turrets and hidden bombs. Those attack and defense values were nothing to sneeze at (8/3000/2500).
Rua grunted, but still drew a card as Deformer Speed Unit resolved, giving him four cards. He looked at the art of the newest card and found himself grinning despite the odds being against him.
"I may take some damage – but now - I'll show you how my deck truly shines!" Rua promised.
"First I'll set this." Rua said as a hidden spell or trap was set on his field. Giant Bomber AIRRAID's eyes ignited bright red in response.
Bommer reacted by extending his arm and splaying out his fingers – indicating he'd make an action.
"By setting that card, AIRRAID's effect activates! – I'll destroy it and deal you eight-hundred points of effect damage!" Bommer warned, the action resulting in AIRRAID to deploy a large bomb out of its' bay doors that formed its' pelvis.
The bomb hit Rua's set card, shattering his freshly set Magical Mallet spell. Rua winced as he took the effect damage (RUA: 2400 → 1600).
Then he got to his feet and summoned his next monster. It was a microscope that quickly transformed into a small standing robot.
"I summon Deformer Scopen!" The boy declared as the monster transformed into a compact robot (3/800/1400).
"A Tuner Monster, eh?" Bommer asked, crossing his arms. "So you remembered AIRRAID destroys the first card you set or monster you summon on your turn?"
"That's right! Don't forget that I saw Yusei take that thing down before! So let's see if I can't do the same thing!" Rua said and Bommer raised an eyebrow.
"I'll tune my level three Scopen and level four Staplen together!" Rua announced, raising up an arm to the skies. To this declaration, Deformer Scopen broke apart into three level stars that Staplen's body flew through.
Rua chanted the words of power as the resulting Synchro Summon occurred.
"Docking strength with courage to protect world peace!
Synchro Summon!"
The pillar of light burst apart and the mechanical dragon's body within gleamed with green light for a moment.
"Envoy of love and justice, Power Tool Dragon!"
The golden and silver machine landed on Rua's side of the field as its eyes gleamed bright red for a moment (7/2300/2500).
"Power Tool Dragon? So this is your deck's Ace Monster?" Bommer asked.
"That's right. And you'll see why right now! I'll use Power Tool Dragon's effect! Power Search!" Rua cried out as his deck began to shuffle and he grabbed a card from it.
"This ability gives me an equip spell at random from my deck!" Rua explained as he added the card to his hand, giving him three to use.
"Now I equip Power Tool Dragon with this! Double Tool C&D!" Rua said as his dragon powered up, the screwdriver and scooper on each arm replaced with more deadly armaments. The signature drill and buzzsaw combo appeared on the dragon's arms and it let out a mechanical roar.
"Battle! Power Tool Dragon! Attack his AIRRAID right now! Crafty Break!"
At the command, Power Tool Dragon blasted off, the drill spinning wildly as it neared its target.
"But it's weaker than my AIRRAID-!" Bommer observed.
"Double Tool C&D gives one thousand more attack points when it attacks a monster!" Rua countered as his dragon powered up (Power Tool Dragon ATK: 2300 → 3300).
Then Power Tool followed through, ramming its drill arm through AIRRAID's body. The impact of the attack combined with the velocity of Power Tool tore through AIRRAID, breaking it apart into two halves. The metal dragon passed through, landing on the ground in a crouch as the gigantic war machine's halves exploded in a blossom of flames.
Bommer roared as he took some damage from his monster's destruction (BOMMER: 3800 → 3500).
"Rrrgh! Taking down AIRRAID the turn I Summon it!?" The Dark Signer said with irritation.
Rua was shaking, surprised that his Deck had given him such a quick answer to a monster that had defeated him soundly in the past – and given both Yusei and Crow trouble as well. He panted as the attack had worked and found that he didn't have a plan beyond getting around Bommer's ace card.
"I – end my turn! And Power Tool Dragon's attack power returns to normal!" He explained as Power Tool Dragon slumped slightly (Power Tool Dragon ATK: 3300 → 2300).
TURN 6: RUA: 1600 BOMMER: 3500
Bommer drew his latest card, giving him three to use. His eye gleamed as his gaze shifted to a card he'd been holding onto earlier in the Duel.
"I'll destroy your machine dragon right now! I Summon the Tuner Monster Black Bomber!" The man said, playing the card. His newest monster appeared – a spherical black bomb with comical round eyes, and pointed white teeth (3/100/1100).
"And I'll use its effect to Special Summon a level four Dark Attribute Machine Type monster from my Graveyard but negate its' effects! I'll Summon Trap Reactor RR once more!" Bomber decided. His Tuner monster spat out a mouthful of bombs, the detonations reviving the other monster when the smoke cleared (4/800/1800).
"I see – so you had a way to use your Reactors even once you sent them to the Graveyard." Rua observed.
Bommer continued, raising an arm to the sky. "And now – I tune them together! To Synchro Summon Dark Dive Bomber!"
The resulting Synchro Summon ended as a dark red and black robot appeared. It was sleek, with a body based off of a far sleeker fighter than any of Bomber's earlier monsters. With two pupils, it glared at Power Tool Dragon (7/2600/1800).
"You almost beat Yusei with that monster!" Rua recalled and Bommer nodded.
"Indeed. And I'll use it to avenge AIRRAID by destroying your monster! Dark Dive Bomber, attack his Power Tool Dragon!" Bommer commanded.
The jet fighter robot flew high into the air, plates on its' chest opening to reveal two missile ports. Three of them fired at Power Tool Dragon, striking the rival Synchro. Power Tool was consumed in a scarlet explosion that knocked Rua backwards, his back hitting the barrier of flames.
Rua grunted as he raised an arm and stood, the heat of the fire lessening as he moved forward a step.
The explosion resulted in a cloud of dust. With a mechanical roar, Power Tool Dragon emerged from the smoke, growling even as Rua took some minor damage (RUA: 1600 → 1300).
"Why couldn't I destroy it?!" Bommer asked as Rua got back up.
"Power Tool Dragon's effect! I can destroy an equip spell Power Tool Dragon is using to stop it from being destroyed!"
"Hmph. Just like Yusei, I see. I wonder if that dragon of yours can stop my next move? I set one card and end my turn." Bommer said, holding just one card remaining.
Turn 7: RUA: 1300 / BOMMER: 3500
"I'll draw!" Rua said as he drew the next card and looked to the three cards.
"First I'll use Power Search again!" Rua said as he added an equip spell to his hand.
Bommer smiled as Rua looked to the spell with annoyance.
"Relying on luck won't be enough against me. Not with this." Bommer said as his set card activated, summoning a huge ball of spikes with a single wide eye (10/0/3000). "My next trap card – Ultimate Mine!"
Rua glared at the Token, remembering Bommer's strategy against Yusei during the Fortune Cup.
"I see. So I'll lose from your Synchro Monster's effect if I can't get rid of your Dark Dive Bomber this turn, huh?" The teenager asked. "In that case - I summon Deformer Lighton!"
In front of Rua, the flashlight themed tuner appeared (1/200/200).
"Hmph! So you're going to settle it with another Synchro monster?" Bomber asked.
"That's right! Now I'll tune my level seven Power Tool Dragon with my level one Deformer Lighton!"
"What?! Summoning a monster greater than Power Tool Dragon?!" Bommer remarked.
The tuner spit into a ring as Rua chanted.
"The power and courage to protect the future of the planet is a revolution! Synchro Summon!"
Power Tool Dragon flew through the tuning ring, yet rather than break down into a framework of level stars, as the dragon glowed brightly.
The light from the resulting Synchro Summon faded away. Power Tool Dragon let out a roar as the yellow and silver armor plating that made up its body started to crack, shattering to reveal a brown skinned dragon underneath.
The shovel tail broke apart displaying an organic one beneath it with a bone club where the spade of the shovel was. The spherical shoulder pads cracked open to display bulky and bulbous shoulder of brown, reinforced hide. And the mechanical sleek head came apart, an organic one hiding underneath it. Legs and arms broke free, as did two sets of tan wings.
The toyetic parts on each of the dragon's arms vanished, replaced by a narrow blade of bone mounted on the dragon's right wrist (8/2900/2400).
"Evolve! Life Stream Dragon!"
"What?! That dragon is – !?" Bommer started to speak, his mouth and eyes wide at Power Tool Dragon's evolution.
"The hidden evolution of Power Tool Dragon is a miracle of life! And my very own Signer Dragon! It's name is – Life Stream Dragon!" Rua said proudly as his dragon let out a booming roar.
"So – if you have your own Signer Dragon – that means - !" Bommer realized as his eyes widened. At some point the boy he had Dueled in the Fortune Cup had become a Signer.
There was no doubt about it. Life Stream Dragon was one of the Signer Dragons he'd seen in the carvings that documented the People of the Stars. Yet it was not one Bommer had seen until now. The revelation that the boy he'd fought was a Signer was just as surprising.
"When Life Stream Dragon is Synchro Summoned, I can restore my Life Points to 2000!" Rua explained as he looked up to his dragon in question, the monster glowing in a golden aura as Rua's life points increased (RUA: 1300 → 2000).
"Then I'll equip it with the equip spell – Central Shield!" Rua added.
As he spoke, a ring of red spheres floating around a larger chest plate formed around his dragon, crackling with electricity. The chest plate attached to his dragon and a barrier formed around it.
"And now – Life Stream Dragon attack his Dark Dive Bomber! Life's Beauty-Howl!" Rua screamed.
Life Stream Dragon leaned back its long neck before hurling its head forward. A beam of pure golden light shot right through Dark Dive Bomber, its pupils widening as it had no time to react. Then the light expanded, making the monster explode.
Bommer groaned as he took some damage from the battle at hand (BOMMER: 3500 → 3200).
"Guh! Able to defeat another monster that gave Yusei trouble, I see?" Bommer said with strain as the pure light singed him.
"Still – are you sure you can keep this up? Even if you were a Signer at some point – the light and favor of the Crimson Dragon has left this world. Your teammates are injured, or corrupted. Against a unified Dark Signers, what hope do you have left?"
"The hope that was passed down to me by Yusei, Aki, and Crow! Even if they're not here, I'll fight with the courage that I gained watching them!"
"Hmph. So even if they have changed or fallen, you will continue to have hope? Even if your team has fallen apart?"
"That's right! Even if Team 5D's has fallen – even if Crow's hurt – even if Aki and Yusei've been taken by darkness – even if Ruka's still asleep - !" Rua stopped before snarling at Bommer. "If Team 5D's really has broken apart - then I will become Team 5D's!" Rua countered as Life Stream Dragon roared once again.
Then there were no more words as the teenager continued his turn.
"First – I use Deformer Field! Each time a monster's battle position changes, I get a Form Counter! This will give my Deformers three-hundred attack points per counter!"
"And then I'll end my turn!" Rua said, holding one card left.
Turn 8: RUA: 2000 / BOMMER: 3200
Bommer drew and his shoulders shook as he chuckled.
"Those were impressive words. I must say – you speak as one who will never give up hope no matter what. I see now why the Crimson Dragon had chosen you to be a Signer. However! That does not change the reality of your situation!" As he spoke, his body glew with a purple aura, brighter than the seal of flames around them.
Rua was silent and could only glare at Bommer as the tall man continued to speak.
"By playing a Field Spell you have just ended your own life in this Duel!" He said as his eyes glew with purple energy, as did the Marker on the right side of his face. His voice warped as veins began to pop out on his face and his grin became sadistic looking.
"I activate Star Blast! This lets me reduce the level of a monster in my hand by paying five hundred life-points per level."
"That voice - ! You're not Bommer! You're the Earthbound God!"
"I am! And now I will crush this former Signer and feast on your soul! I pay two-thousand life-points to reduce the level of a monster in my hand by four!" Bommer said as he glew in the purple flames (BOMMER: 3200 → 1200).
"And now I can Release my Ultimate Mine Token! To summon my true form! Behold - Earthbound God! Chacu Challhua!"
Then the ground shook as a purple flash filled up the air, blinding Rua for a moment. Even his scream was muted as he felt pressure in the air build up.
Then he opened his eyes and beheld a creature of pure shadow. Chacu Challhua was a huge killer whale, swimming around in the skies as it made even Life Stream Dragon look small.
The whale God let out a roar as it appeared, casting darkness over the entire area (10/2900/2400).
Rua was stunned at the monster's advent. It was his fault for playing the Field Spell and forgetting about Bommer's Star Blast spell card. In his defense it had been years since he'd Dueled in the Fortune Cup but at the moment he could only hope that his field would survive this turn.
"I – have summoned Chacu Challhua - !" Bommer said, back in control of his own body as his Whale Mark burned. He looked up at the monster and appeared sad.
"Rua – I did not want the Duel to end this way – but my God demands I attack!" Bommer said, sounding regretful at the situation.
"Then try it! I'll find a way to beat that thing!" Rua countered.
"Then you forget the terror of the Earthbound Immortals – since a Field Spell is in play, my God can attack you directly!" Bommer said as Chacu Challhua dove into the ground, its glowing fin of dark purple the only thing visible as it approached Rua at rapid speed.
"And with this comes the end of the Duel!" Bommer directed.
/
Ruka wondered how she'd turn the tables on Zeman. For starters the Ape King had summoned himself to the field. She hadn't seen Rua face Zeman herself but knew from experience that he was a dangerous opponent.
TURN 7: RUKA: 1400 / ZEMAN: 3000
Ruka drew a fifth card and looked to her field.
"I'll use Sunlight Unicorn's effect again and search for an Equip Spell!"
Ruka turned over the top card of her deck and smiled as she added it to her hand.
"Horn of the Unicorn!" Ruka said as she revealed it.
"Then I'll Release Sunlight Unicorn to Advance Summon Fairy King Truesdale!"
Sunlight Unicorn's body shone with light before vanishing as a swirling rainbow mass was formed from its' tribute. The mass opened up to reveal a fair looking man clad in fine robes of blue (6/).
After she played the high-level monster, Ruka held five cards.
"Then I'll tune my level one Sunny Pixie and my level six Fairy King Truesdale!" Ruka announced as The monsters faded away, one tuning ring and six level stars aligning in the air.
"The holy light of protection, shine now and become eternal life!'
"Synchro Summon! A regal birth - Ancient Fairy Dragon!"
Ruka exclaimed as Ancient Fairy Dragon hissed, spreading out her arms and wings as she flew behind Ruka and snarled (7/2100/3000).
Ruka placed her monster in Attack Mode, Ancient Fairy sizing up Zeman as Ruka continued her turn.
"Since I used Sunny Pixie for LIGHT monster, I gain one-thousand life-points!" Ruka said, glowing with a light green aura for a moment (RUKA LP: 1400 → 2400).
"Then I'll power Ancient Fairy Dragon up with Horn of the Unicorn!" Ruka said as the golden horn sprouted from Ancient Fairy's head (Ancient Fairy Dragon ATK: 2100 → 2800).
"And now I'll attack you, Zeman! Eternal Sunshine!"
Ancient Fairy Dragon roared and fired a beam of light from her mouth, the attack speeding towards Zeman.
"Not good enough! My effect! Minus Curse Barrier! I discard a card such as my Ape Fighter and cancel the attack!" Zeman said, raising his staff as the blast of light was nullified by a surge of darkness.
Ruka narrowed her eyes. "I see Rua had to do a lot to defeat you in our world. I'll set a card and end my turn." She said, leaving her with three cards in her hand.
TURN 8: RUKA: 2400 / ZEMAN: 3000
Zeman drew a third card and chattered as he passed, Swords of Revealing Light breaking apart as he did so. "I end my turn – meaning your Swords will be gone soon!"
TURN 9: RUKA: 2400 / ZEMAN: 3000
Ruka drew a fourth card and smiled.
"I'll call out Fairy Archer!" Ruka stated, the pixie warrior appearing and readying their bow (3/1400/600).
"And I'll use Fairy Archer's effect! I control two face-up LIGHT monsters, so you'll take four hundred points of effect damage for each one!" Ruka said as the archer fired twice, striking Zeman in the chest.
Zeman groaned as he took damage from the searing arrow (ZEMAN: 3000 → 2200).
"Guh! To think this girl would be able to get ahead of me in this Duel - ! Still – you can't overcome my ability!"
"Well I'll still try to do so! Eternal Sunshine!" Ruka said as Ancient Fairy Dragon began to charge up the orb of light in her mouth.
"Then I'll discard a card to use Minus Curse Barrier and - !" Zeman began but stopped as his hand began shaking.
"Incorrect. You do not get to discard the very God your master serves just to save yourself." A voice said from beyond.
"M-master Demak?! But I'm so close to winning!" Zeman protested.
"You would discard our God!? Then you will be used in its' revival!" Demak countered as Ancient Fairy Dragon fired off its' attack, burning through Zeman's form and consuming it in light (ZEMAN: 2200 → 1900).
"MASTER DEMAK-!" Zeman cried out before the scream was drowned out as his form burned away.
The attack faded away and Demak himself appeared in Zeman's place, floating in space as he recovered the Duel Disk and affixed it to his own arm.
"Hmph. I knew I should have begun the Duel myself after tracking you down. That said – you will lose on the next turn." Demak stated.
"Behold my Trap Card – Dark Matter. Since you destroyed Zeman, a Synchro Monster, I can set the top two cards of my deck on my field as monster cards!" Demak said as he gained two hidden monsters on his field.
Ruka took a breath as she looked over the three cards remaining in her hand. "Then I'll end my turn."
TURN 10: RUKA: 2400 / DEMAK: 2200
Demak drew a third card and smirked.
"Now I'll activate this Field Spell. Closer Forest."
He played the card as a thorny trees began covering the space they were it, appearing in such a number that they blotted out the stars. The cluster of trees became a large sphere of sorts of which Ruka and Demak were both consumed by.
"Then . . . I tribute both my tokens! Now awaken – God who revived my life! Earthbound Immortal Cusillu!"
The stone heart appeared, surging purple as the Monkey God burst from the summon. It rose to its full height with a roar as the field they occupied expanded to give the Immortal space (10/2800/2400).
"Closer Forest will give Cusillu more attack points – though its' a moot point considering it can finish you in one blow." Demak said with a grin as Cusillu's attack rose marginally (Cusillu ATK: 2800 → 3400).
"Now attack directly - and bring me victory!" He cried out as Cusillu swung its fist forwards.
The attack struck, sending some of the trees of Closer Forest flying. Ancient Fairy Dragon was knocked back as the force of the blow caused the whole area to shake.
"Heh. It seems without your brother to protect you, you're not strong enough to face me. Now I'll claim Ancient Fairy Dragon in the name of Rudger and - !"
Demak stopped speaking as Ancient Fairy Dragon moved, revealing a shaken but still quite alive Ruka.
Ruka panted as she rose, glaring up at the God as she faced it (RUKA LP: 2400).
"But how?" The Dark Signer asked.
"I used Kuribon's effect just as your God attacked! I reduced the battle damage to zero and because I did, I Special Summoned her!" Ruka countered as her smallest monster had appeared in her arms (1/300/200).
"Hmph. You still cannot defeat Cusillu with your paltry field. I - end my turn." Demak said though he looked nervous at the field he faced.
TURN 11: RUKA: 2400 / DEMAK: 1900
Ruka drew her latest card, giving her four.
"Ancient Fairy – are you willing to give your all to stop that thing?" Ruka asked.
"Yes. I'll wage my very life on it." The dragon said.
Ruka grimaced as she pointed to Demak's Field Spell.
"I'll use Ancient Fairy Dragon's effect to destroy Closer Forest! Plain Back!" Ruka declared and Ancient Fairy Roared.
Waves of sound reverberated through the space, breaking the Field Spell card apart. Then the sphere around them broke apart and Ruka gained some Life-Points as she added Synchro Monument to her hand (RUKA LP: 2400 → 3400).
Cusillu groaned as it lost some attack points (Cusillu ATK: 3400 → 2800).
Demak's eyes widened at the loss of power. "No! Without that Field Spell my Earthbound God is - !"
"Stuck in space with no land to bind it!" Ruka finished. "Meaning I can finish this Duel right now!"
" have Ancient Fairy Dragon, Kuribbon, and Fairy Archer - three LIGHT attribute monsters – so Fairy Archer can damage you again!" She yelled as Fairy Archer fired three times. Demak grunted as he took the effect damage (DEMAK: 1900 → 300).
"And now – Ancient Fairy Dragon! Attack Cusillu with your Eternal Sunshine!" Ruka yelled as her dragon swooped down, shining a ray of light directly at Cusillu. The Monkey God groaned in pain but was still able to grab onto Ancient Fairy Dragon's body, applying pressure to the monster as both were consumed by the light.
Ruka's Horn of the Unicorn card shattered and her Duel Disk's automatic feature returned it to the top of her deck.
Demak grinned at the outcome of this. "Foolish girl! Horn of the Unicorn will return to the top of your deck – meaning that you won't get any new cards next turn! All I need to do is draw a monster stronger than your Fairy Archer and - "
"Kuribon! Direct attack!" Ruka commanded. Demak stopped as he realized she'd played her smallest monster in attack mode.
The Kuriboh monster flew directly in from of Demak and started glowing.
The Dark Signer screamed as the light enveloped him and he vanished from the dimension of Duel Spirits.
Ruka wanted to collapse but still had one last card to use.
"Emergency Assistance! Bring back Ancient Fairy Dragon during the second Main Phase!" Ruka pleaded.
The Spell card activated and Ancient Fairy Dragon returned, her eyes shining with pride.
"You did it, Ruka. You defeated Demak."
"That was – not just me. Ancient Fairy – I couldn't do this without you. And I know our friends are fighting as hard as they can back home. So I can't afford to take it easy."
" . . . Now we can keep going." Ruka said after she composed herself.
"Are you sure you don't need to rest? I applaud your initiative but you did just stop a Dark Signer." Ancient Fairy Dragon asked.
Ruka frowned. "Not if this mission is as important as you say it is. Let's keep going."
The dragon complied and the two of them continued. Ruka's grip was not as tight as before.
"Rua, please keep me safe back on Earth." Ruka thought as they went on their way.
/
Chacu Challhua's charge bore down on Rua, the fin moments from hitting him.
"Life Stream Dragon! Show us why you're the ultimate protector!" Rua countered.
Life Stream Dragon flew in the way of the whale God's attack, landing on the ground in front of the fin and stabbing its wrist-blade into the thing, pulling up with both arms. It was enough to rip the Immortal out of the ground. Life Stream Dragon was not done, pulling the blade out of Chacu Challhua's fin and flying in front of the God. Life Stream grabbed its' snout, pushing it backwards as its wings flapped with haste.
"How – did your monster cancel my God's attack?!" Bommer asked.
"Because of my Central Sheild's effect you can't attack directly!" Rua said, glaring at the Immortal as Life Stream Dragon gave one last heave, sending the Whale God flailing back into the skies. The Earthbound God recovered, continuing its predatory track circling around the field.
"That won't save you forever! You'll need to think of something stronger than that to win! I end my turn!" Bommer said, baring his teeth.
Turn 9: RUA: 2000 / BOMMER: 1200
"Draw!" Rua said, swinging his entire arm behind him as he hoped it would be a good card. He then brought the card in front of his face and looked at his two cards.
"I'll start my counterattack now! You'll recognize Deformer Radicassen from our first Duel!" Rua said, playing the card in Defense Mode (4/1200/400).
"And now I'll have Life Stream Dragon finish you off! Since you have no other monsters, I can attack you instead of your Immortal! Direct attack!" The boy yelled as his dragon fired its' ray of light straight at Bommer.
"Naive! My trap card – Chariot Pile!" Bommer said, waving his arm out as the attack stopped, crashing into Bommer's now active Trap (BOMMER: 1200 → 400).
"I pay eight-hundred Life-Points but then I can negate your attack – and destroy your Life Stream Dragon! And once it's destroyed, Central Shield will go with it! Without your Central Shield I'll be able to attack directly next turn!" Bommer said, his eyes glowing purple as his grin resumed, the Immortal in full control of his body.
"Too bad Life Stream Dragon has a protection ability of its' own! I'll banish an equip spell from my Graveyard to protect Life Stream Dragon! So I'll get rid of my Double Tool C&D!" Rua said as the equip card in question vanished and his dragon endured the explosion, shrugging off the blast as it roared in defiance.
Bommer tisked but still stood firm as Rua ended his turn.
Turn 10: RUA: 2000 / BOMMER: 400
"Then I still have a way to finish you off! First I'll use Chariot Pile's effect to inflict eight-hundred points of effect damage!" Bommer said.
Nothing happened.
"That's not going to happen! The effect damage from your Chariot Pile won't hurt me as long as I control Life Stream Dragon!"
"Then try that against the wrath of a God! I'll put myself in Defense Mode and then inflict half of my defense as damage!" Bommer declared.
As the card shifted into Defense Mode, Deformer Field lit up, the Field Spell gaining a Form Counter (Deformer Field: 1). Rua stopped and looked at the card, getting an idea before looking back to Chacu Challhua.
From high above the Whale God roared and fired a stream of purple miasma directly at Rua. It was a tidal wave of purple that could seriously impact his life points. Still, Rua put on a brave face as he glared at the monster.
"Now you have no escape route! This effect damage will devastate you!" Chacu Challhua yelled through Bommer's vocal chords.
Once again, Life Stream Dragon flew in front of Chacu Challhua, roaring as a golden barrier erupted between it and the attack.
"Let me clarify – you can't hurt me with any kind of effect damage as long as I control Life Stream Dragon!" Rua said.
Bommer looked stunned as even his Immortal could do nothing against Rua's current field. The miasma faded away as Life Stream Dragon fell back down to Rua's field, standing behind the teen as Bommer responded.
"Be that as it may, changing my battle position grants me a new ability! You can't attack as long as I'm in Defense Mode!" Bommer warned.
Rua thought of ways to get around Bommer in this case. He knew he had answers in his deck but at the moment he'd need more than one card to do so.
Turn 11: RUA: 2000 / BOMMER: 400
"DRAW!" Rua yelled, hoping that once again the next card would turn the tide of the Duel.
His hope rewarded him in the form of a powerful Spell card – if he could not draw out an answer with one card, perhaps two would suffice.
"I'll begin with this! I play Pot of Avarice!"
He played the spell card as projections of Deformer Magnet – U, Deformer Staplen, Deformer Scopen, Deformer Lighton, and Power Tool Dragon's cards appeared behind him as the real ones ejected from his Graveyard.
"This lets me shuffle five monsters back into my Deck to draw two cards!" The teen said, doing so.
Then he grinned from ear to ear.
"And now I'll show you a thing or two, Earthbound Immortal! I Summon this once again! Deformer Scopen!" The microscope themed Deformer appeared a second time. (3/800/1400).
"And Scopen' s Attack Mode ability will let me Special Summon Deformer Radion from my hand!"
Beside Scopen a Walkman themed robot appeared, stocky and ready for battle (4/1000/1000).
Radion, Scopen, and Radicassen all glowed as Radion's Summon increased their attack points by eight-hundred, but the boost didn't last as Rua immediately sent the new monster to the Graveyard along with Scopen.
"Now I'll tune Scopen and Radion together!" Rua said as he raised his fist to the sky.
"Courage docks with strength to protect world peace! Synchro Summon!"
"Revive, Envoy of love and Justice! Power Tool Dragon!" Rua said with spirit as the robotic dragon's parts rose from the ground, reforming into an empty shell of armor that suddenly came to life as it's eye blazed red with purpose. Power Tool Dragon rose, nodding at Life Stream Dragon as the two looked out at the Earthbound God (7/2300/2500).
"Power Tool Dragon is revived?!" Bommer asked as Rua smirked.
"That's right! And now I'll use Power Tool Dragon's effect - to add a random Equip card to my hand! Power Search!"
Power Tool Dragon's eyes flashed red and a card was added to Rua's hand. He looked to it and nodded.
"I'll give Deformer Radicassen the Equip Spell Deformer Cord!" he said as he played the card. An electric – blue power cord appeared from the back of Rua's Radicassen.
"And then I'll shift my Radicassen into attack mode!"
With the command the boombox robot shifted into Attack mode (1200). As it did so, Deformer Field gained another Form Counter (2).
"This activates the effect of Deformer Cord! Since I changed a Deformer's battle position I can destroy a Spell or Trap on the field!" Rua stated as his own Deformer Field shattered.
Earthbound Immortal Chacu Challhua wailed in frustration as the Field it drew power from was gone. The purple aura surrounding it faded as it had to lower itself closer to the earth to stay airborne.
"Destroying your own card with your equip spell? Then – with a Field Spell gone, Chachu Challhua's effects are negated- !" Bommer tensed as Rua still had more to do it seemed.
"Meaning it's just another big monster to get rid of!" Rua said, pointed as his three monsters looked up at the Earthbound God.
"And now! Life Stream Dragon! Attack Chachu Challhua! LIFE'S BEAUTY-HOWL!"
The two monsters both lunged at one another, Life Stream Dragon flying into the Earthbound God's mouth. Then it came out the back of the whale, arm blade and body leaking off grey sludge from the larger monster's body.
"NO! How could I lose again - !?" Chachu Challhua whispered as the purple aura around Bommer faded away.
Chacu Challhua's roar was loud and shook the ground even as its' body disintegrated. The pressure left the air as its physical form had been destroyed.
Bommer's eyes returned to normal as Rua pointed at his opponent.
"And now – end this Duel, Power Tool Dragon!" Rua yelled as his metal dragon charged.
