Once the two had logged out of their private server, Yusaku and Aoi showered, then ate dinner, and went to sleep for the night. The next day now had arrived and the two teenagers arrived at school. The day was average and would even have been considered possibly boring if Shima was still not their friend. However, once it was time to go home was when the young couple was in for quite a huge event.
"Today I'm gonna try making some seafood. Not sure what kind specifically yet though." Aoi said as the couple was about to exit the school grounds. It was then that they ran into Art.
"What up, kids?" He greeted with his usual attitude. "Or should I say, recent adults?" He laughed.
"Art, what are you doing here? You'll get in trouble for impersonating a teacher." Yusaku asked as he ignored the older man's attempt at humor.
"Relax, they ain't got the wit to catch me. " He replied with a coy smile, then he reached for his pocket, pulling a letter. "But to keep stuff short, I have been to your place earlier today - you have to open a few windows, by the way - and I found this." He handed it to Yusaku. "It is for you."
"This is… no way!" Yusaku was noticeably shocked as he read the contents of the letter.
*Yusaku, what does it say?" Aoi asked both in concern for her boyfriend and out of curiosity.
"Shit, man. Is something sending you nudes?" Art asked in a joke.
"This must be the letter that my parents sent to me before. Art, where did you find this? I got rid of it because I had absolutely no intention of reading it.
"You did so poorly, found it in your desk" Art explained. "And I opened the window for you. Seriously, the smell can get into the walls as well, you know"
"Why though? Why bring this to me? I told you before that I hate them! Why would you do this?!" Yusaku started to get physically flustered and emotionally distressed.
"Yusaku!" Aoi said as she hugged her boyfriend to calm him down.
"Aoi…" Yusaku said as he started to calm down.
"Don't worry. I'm here by your side and won't leave you." The brunette said as she then kissed her boyfriend on the cheek. Thankfully, no one was watching as the 3 were standing in a spot that most people don't go to.
"Oi, watch it with the Lovey Dovey stuff, would you? Anyway, sorry for barging into your place, and digging up that letter. But, Yusaku, you should really consider at least meeting them." Art suggested. "You are 17 for crying out loud, soon to be 18 and take the big leap into the world, get married, and even have kids, maybe. So I suggest you grow a pair and meet them."
"..." The young man went a whole minute without saying as he was trying to process the words that Art said. Once he realized that the blond man was right, his logical side took over and he hesitantly said "fine… I'll do it…"
"There you go," Art said. "Did they leave a phone number there?"
"Yes…" Yusaku muttered.
"Yusaku, you don't have to do this. I can tell that they've caused you a lot of pain. I think it's best you just avoid any contact with them.
"Give up, Aoi." Art said. "He made up his mind, I can see it in his eyes. He will go through with this whether he likes it or not now."
"Art's right, Aoi… This is something I have to do. If I don't then I'm never going to be able to truly move on. I just need to ask… will you be there for me when I call them?" Yusaku wanted reassurance that he wasn't going to be alone while doing this.
"That's a ridiculous question. Of course, I will be. I promised to never leave your side and I'm going to keep it." Aoi then hugged her boyfriend once again, this time with him hugging her back.
"Seriously, are you engaged now or something? Easy on the sugary bits!" Art complained.
The teenagers were now back at their home as Yusaku thought about when the right to call his parents was. This thought prevailed with him for the rest of the day, including through dinner. The next day had arrived and the two were at school, Yusaku still not saying much. It was then that they ran into their friend Takeru.
"Oh, hi guys," Takeru said, greeting them.
"Hey, Takeru…" Yusaku greeted him back. The way that the hero of vrains was carrying himself made it obvious that something was wrong.
"Something the matter? You look somewhat down…" Takeru said as he took notice of the way Yusaku was acting. "Did something happen?"
"Yes… yesterday…" Aoi was hesitant to finish her reply as she didn't know if her boyfriend was comfortable with Takeru knowing about the letter.
"Yes?" The fire hero asked again, letting them know he was listening.
"Well… um…" Yusaku tried to answer but couldn't bring himself to, so Aoi decided to take over.
"Yesterday, Yusaku received a letter from his parents for the first time since the lost incident… and now he doesn't know what to say to them…
"AOI!" Yusaku almost shouted which caused his girlfriend to yelp in surprise."Why did you tell him?! If I wanted him to know then I would have told him myself!" Yusaku said in practically an aggressive sort of tone.
"I'm sorry… it's just that Takeru is our close friend so I thought that he deserved to know… plus, it seemed like you were trying to tell him but couldn't bring out the words to…" Aoi replied. This was the first that her boyfriend talked like this to her so she was practically frightened. But she understood that this was a natural reaction from him since the issue of his parents should really only be revealed by him. Upon seeing his girlfriend in obvious distress, Yusaku regained his composure and felt bad for his actions.
"No, I'm the one who's sorry. I shouldn't have snapped like that. Also, your right. He does deserve to know." He then wanted to hug his girlfriend to make it up to her but he realized he couldn't because Takeru was there.
"So...Your parents sent you a letter?" Takeru asked again. "And you have yet to reply?"
"Yes. They actually send it 4 months ago, but I was stuck in depression from Ai and-"
"Yusaku, sometimes I wonder if you have a heart," Takeru said sighing. "Listen, and take it from someone whose parents are no more, who died looking for him, that you HAVE to meet them."
"I know, but what should I say? Would they even recognize my voice?" Yusaku asked, making Takeru sigh again.
"Maybe not, but if you introduce yourself then chances are they might. A boy's voice still resembles their younger one to some degree, so chances are there." The flame hero replied. "Look, just do this before it is too late, ok? Has no one had you do a pep talk before this?"
"Art did, actually," Aoi replied. "He is the boss at the shop we work at, and he is the one who helped us out."
"Did he even get you a house as well?" Takeru asked jokingly.
"For a matter of fact, yes," Aoi replied. "He is quite an interesting guy once you get to know him."
"So he gave Yusaku a pep talk, but failed?" Takeru asked, trying not to show the shock hearing that this Art gave his friends an entire house. Is that guy loaded or something?
"Actually, it did work." Yusaku corrected. "But I began having second thoughts again soon after, and hesitated since."
"I see...Anyway, my advice is the same; meet them before it is too late and you start regretting never having met them."
"I see...Thank you, Takeru, for your words." Yusaku replied.
"Don't mention it. After all, what are friends for?"
The couple then returned home, the rest of the day playing out more or less the same as yesterday. It was now time for bed but Yusaku this time had the phone in his hand, not knowing whether he should go through with this now or not.
"Can… Can I really do this?" Yusaku said to himself as he laid in his bed and stared at the phone.
"You can. I believe in you." Aoi said as she walked into her boyfriend's room. Unlike the last time she went to his room, she had her regular Blue Angel themed pajamas on.
"Aoi…" Yusaku muttered.
"I promised to be here for you. So don't feel like you're going through this alone okay?" She said as she laid on her boyfriend's bed and snuggled next to him to give him comfort.
"Thank you… I love you Aoi…" Yusaku then gave his girlfriend a proper hug to make up for the lack of one earlier at school.
"Well… here goes…" He said as he then dialed the number from the letter and almost immediately got a response.
"Hello?" An unknown voice came from the other side. "Who is this?"
"Its… me…" Yusaku replied hesitantly.
"Y-Yusaku? Is it really you, my son?" The man replied with shock in his voice.
"Y-Yes…" Yusaku was struggling to reply but Aoi held him close to calm him down.
"Oh my, I-...I did not expect you to call. Me and your mother, we-" His father stumbled in his words, trying to compose himself. "When you didn't reply to our letter, we assumed you didn't want to talk with us"
"Well, let's just say that… I had a change of heart…" The young man replied.
"I see. Your mother is currently sleeping right now, she had a hard day today at work, as I have." The man replied. "Son, how are you? We know you are in Den city since that is where we last saw you, but we do not know anything else. Are you ok? Do you have a roof above your head? Food on the table?"
"Well you were the one who mailed me the letter so you should know my current situation… anyway, to answer your question, yes I'm fine." He replied.
"Good to know...We were worried." His father replied. "So, why did you call? Would you...Like to meet?"
"..." Yusaku didn't know what to say. Should he meet his parents? He only had planned to call them but he didn't plan any farther. At that moment, Aoi kissed his cheek.
"Go ahead… I'll be there with you…" She said in a quiet enough tone so Yusaku's father wouldn't hear over the phone.
"Son?"
"I'm here. Let's… meet somewhere…" Yusaku struggled but managed to say it.
"Great!" His father exclaimed. "How about the center of Den City? I heard it is a nice place to be"
"That's fine. Do you know how to get there?" He asked his father.
"Yes, I do"
"Alright. I'm free tomorrow. Is that fine?" Yusaku asked.
"Yes. See you then, Yusaku." His father said before hanging up.
"Well… looks like I'm going to meet them tomorrow… I'm not sure if I'm ready for this…" Yusaku was noticeably on edge.
"Don't worry, I'm sure it will be fine. Honestly, I'm excited to meet them. After all… I…" Aoi then cut herself off as she didn't want to think about the death of her parents from so many years ago.
"Aoi… thank you. As long as you're with me, I'm sure everything will work out." Yusaku said to reassure both himself and his girlfriend.
In the meantime, in a certain house located in a brown close to Den city. Yusaku's father put down the phone, the boy's mother standing behind the man, having listened to the whole conversation. But there was someone else in there as well.
"We did like you asked. Now, care to say when we will get paid?"
"Patience," Queen said, twirling a glass of wine in hand. "It is all going smoothly."
