23: We didn't do Anything
A few days later Lexi woke up as the sun was rising. She looked over at Lily's bed, the curtains were pulled closed still. Lexi quietly climbed out of bed and headed to the bathroom. Once she showered and dressed she grabbed her guitar and creeped down the stairs. She pressed herself up against the wall and peeked around the corner. Sirius and James were both asleep in front of the fire. James was sideways in a chair, Sirius was sprawled out on the couch. She moved as quietly as possible and slipped out of the portrait hole.
She had been distant from everyone over the last few days. Ever since the incident with Snape. Dumbledore had taken a final move and cast a spell on the necklace Sirius had given her. It was now suppressing her powers. She hadn't told the others yet. She had spent most of her time working on music. She was finding hiding spots all over the empty castle but James, Sirius, and Remus kept finding her. She had tried hiding in the dorm, but Lily had also stayed and sat with her, quietly, but Lexi was scared to be around them. What if the spell on the necklace failed?
Lexi pulled her coat tighter as she exited the doors of the castle. She made her way out on the snowy lawn towards the quidditch pitch. She reached the Gryffindor locker room and sat on the floor against the lockers and unpacked her guitar.
She had been sitting there for hours working on some new things she had written. Suddenly the door opened and a burst of cold air and snow rushed in.
"How long have you been down here," Sirius asked as he sat on a bench across the room from her.
"Five hours," she said, smally checking her watch.
"I made James stay in the castle."
"So you have been using the map to find me," she raised an eyebrow, a bite in her voice.
"You hadn't asked."
"A bit unfair don't you think?"
"Lexi, don't," his voice was angry. "You've been avoiding all of us since what happened with Snape. You haven't told us what happened with Dumbledore."
"I just-"
"Honestly, I don't care about you avoiding the others. I care that you're avoiding me." She could see the hurt in his eyes. She set her guitar down and stood up slowly moving closer to him.
"Dumbledore put a spell on my necklace. It's supposed to suppress my powers." She watched as the shock began to show on his face. "We don't know if it will work or if it will fully stop the visions either. I'm scared about being near anyone because I thought I had control and I clearly don't. That day in the corridor...I felt more in control than I ever had been, but I had no clue my hands were doing that. I-if you and James hadn't stepped in-" Sirius suddenly stood and crossed the rest of the way to her and kissed her. She melted against him. She hadn't let him touch her over the last few days and now his arms wrapped around her felt so good. He didn't let go of her after the kiss broke.
"I love you. I'm going to be by your side through everything. The good, the bad, and the unknown. I always have been and always will be," he rested his forehead against hers.
"I love you too. I'm sorry I didn't-"
"You don't have to apologize for anything, Love. I can't imagine what you're going through. Just don't push me away."
"I won't," she kissed him gently.
"Let's go get you some food, besides the castle is warmer," Sirius chuckled. She packed up her guitar and he took the case from her pulling it on his back.
"Maybe we should keep the 'L' word from James for a bit," she smirked as they walked. "He's still just getting used to us."
"I think that's fair," she smiled as his barking laugh was carried out over the grounds.
"I'm a little mad you beat me to it."
"Well, it felt right," he grinned and wrapped his arm around her.
"We aren't really going to let Snivellus slide are we?"
"No, Prongs and I were actually discussing that big prank," he smirked.
"Oh really, and what did you two have in mind?"
"Well, we never did break into Slytherin in second year."
"Brilliant," she smirked.
"We'll talk more about it after you tell Prongs what's going on," he looked over at her sternly.
"Alright, Dumbledore said he wrote aunt and uncle. I'm lucky they haven't written to us yet. I'm sure they would have mentioned it," she sighed as they walked into the Entrance Hall.
"I do have one question," he asked, stopping her.
"Alright."
"What's the risk of wearing that spell?" He touched the small lion charm resting high on her chest.
"I have to go back to weekly lessons with him once term starts. I have to be sure to take it off to use my powers. There could be a build up, same way my eyes start to glow more often. If-if I'm not careful I could completely lose control."
"I'm not sure this was a good idea, Lex," his eyes were filled with concern.
"It was our last option Sirius," she sighed and continued to the Great Hall. He took a deep breath and followed. As they approached the other three Lexi saw James' eyes glued to a letter in his hand. James' head snapped up once Lily nudged him. He glared at Lexi.
"When were you going to tell me," he hissed as she sat across from him with Sirius.
"Can I at least read it before I answer anything," she sighed holding her hand out. He handed her the letter and went back to his food angrily.
Dearest Lexi,
We received Dumbledore's letter. We understand you must be scared taking this step to suppress your power, but it seems it is the best option for the time being. Work hard in your classes with him. It's detrimental you remain in control. We miss you all dearly, the house is too empty. Give our love to James and Sirius as well. We will see you in a few months. Write back when you can.
Love,
Aunt El & Uncle Harry
"First of all," Lexi dropped the letter, "you read a letter sent to me."
"What am I supposed to do? You won't spend longer than five minutes near any of us," he scoffed.
"There was a reason for that," she rolled her eyes.
"What does she mean to suppress your powers," he asked quietly.
"What," Lily and Remus looked at her in shock.
"Lex, we researched that and-" Lily was wide-eyed.
"I know, Lil," Lexi sighed. "Look, I'll explain everything when we get back to the common room."
"Alexandra, I swear-"
"James, I will tell you when we aren't sitting in the middle of the Great Hall," she hissed before turning her focus to food.

Lexi took a deep breath as she stood leaning against the fireplace. She had just finished telling them everything she had told Sirius, minus the risk. Sirius was sitting in the armchair nearest to her on her left, just watching her. Lily and Remus were sitting on the couch, she was trying to avoid their eyes, she knew they knew. She glued her eyes to James. He was in the armchair to her right, he leaned forward his elbows on his knees. His hands were gripped together with his chin resting on them. His hazel eyes were glued on the fire, the flames reflecting clearly in them. They were all quiet.
"So this is a last resort because," James finally spoke, a bitterness in his voice, "after three years you still don't have control like he said you would."
"None of us were sure of what was going to happen, Jamie," she sighed and moved to sit on the arm of Sirius' chair. He instinctively began rubbing the small of her back. "This is new and even out of his knowledge."
"Dumbledore must at least know the risk," Remus spoke rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"What risk," James looked at Lexi then to Remus and back.
"I-it's noth-"
"Lex, now is not the time," Sirius sighed, running his other hand through his hair. "Clearly Lily and Remus know. I know. Just tell him.
"What risk," James asked again, his eyes locked on Lexi. She took a shaky breath and looked at the fire.
"It's sort of the same as not using my powers, the way my eyes glow more frequently, except," she looked back at James, he could see the fear in her eyes."Except, this can make me completely lose control of them." His jaw dropped, her voice started shaking and tears were welling up in her eyes. "I have to be sure to take it off now and then to use my powers otherwise-" her voice broke as the tears slid down her cheeks. "I-I could hurt s-someone, or m-myself."
"Then why was this the best option," James asked incredulously.
"Y-you saw me in the corridor th-that day," she shook her head, tears still falling. Sirius slid her into his lap and held her. She buried her face into his chest as she began shaking with sobs. James and Sirius shared a look of shock, they hadn't seen her cry this hard since her parents died.
"Love, if you don't want to do it you don't have to," Sirius kissed her head and rubbed her back. "You can take it off, we'll go with you and tell Dumbledore."Lexi vigorously shook her head into Sirius' chest.
"Lexi, I'm going to tell them," Lily said softly. There seemed to be no sign of protest from her.
"Tell us what," James asked, his own voice unsure.
"We did research on this after what happened in fourth year," Lily sighed. "She had the idea then, after the incident with Narcissa."
"The three of us spent nights pouring over books about different theories," Remus helped explain. "They all came down to the same one risk in the end."
"Not only will she lose control over her powers but the build up could be so intense that," Lily stopped. Her eyes were starting to get watery as well.
"What will happen," James whispered looking at Remus.
"S-she could," Remus cleared his throat, "the-uh build up of magic could make her explode."
"But that's why you're having lessons with him, to keep control right," James' voice was desperate. Sirius' face was stoic as he held her tightly, unwilling to let her move. She simply nodded. The room was silent for a long time. Finally Lexi adjusted herself in Sirius' lap so her face could be seen. Her blue eyes were bloodshot, her make-up running. Sirius wiped away the remaining wetness on her face with his sleeve before kissing her cheek.
"Once I'm Seventeen it will be safe to adjust the spell to be an anchor rather than it suppressing my powers. It will be a form of wand, something for my power to focus through. It isn't a long time frame, but-"
"The risk is still there," James sighed. "Lex, are you sure about this?"
"No, but I'm willing to try it. I swear, if things feel off, I'll take it off. Dumbledore and I discussed it as well."
"Alright." The room went quiet again.
"I think I want to go lay down," Lexi mumbled. "Lily, come with me?" When Lily nodded and stood Lexi kissed Sirius' cheek and left with her.
"Why do you think she said yes," Sirius asked the two once they were gone.
"She's scared of herself, she has been since that first time," Remus sighed. "Lily and I had to talk her off it. She wanted to do the spell herself, and didn't want to involve everyone. Just do it and not say anything. Of course, things weren't great for her around then."
"It sounds like it's just temporary," James rubbed his forehead and leaned back in his chair.
"We need to make sure it is," Remus pinched the bridge of his nose.
"We'll get it off her the day she turns seventeen," Sirius nodded.

"Are you sure you're alright," Sirius asked Lexi. It was a few days later as they and James sat in the common room while Lily and Remus were on Patrol.
"I'm fine, just trying to convince myself it was the right choice," she sighed.
"Well, it's only temporary," James said eyeing her.
"Right," she nodded. "So what's the plan then," she changed the subject leaning forward to look at the Marauders Map that was spread out in front of them.
"Full Moon is tomorrow," James sighed leaning forward as well. "We'll be off with Moony." Lexi let out a huff and James rolled his eyes.
"Anyway," Sirius chuckled draping an arm around her, "that means Remus will be in the Hospital Wing for a few days."
"Lily has a patrol day after tomorrow while he is. So that's our window," Lexi nodded.
"Are you sure it's smart to do it while she's on patrol," James asked nervously.
"Better than waking up and I wasn't there. She's really set on that Head Girl spot, she may run to McGonagall on that one," Lexi smirked. "Besides, as long as we bring this and the cloak we'll be fine."
"Alright, so we'll head down after giving her an hour," Sirius smirked.
"Think you can get the password figured out in two days," James had a mischievous grin as he looked at Lexi.
"It's like you don't know me," she smirked back.
"Shit, they're coming back," James pointed at two dots that were approaching the commons. Lily Evan and Remus Lupin were getting closer.
"Mischief Managed," Sirius said quickly and tapped the map with his wand and the ink disappeared. James folded up the map and shoved it in his pocket as the portrait hole opened.
"You three are behaving, we hope," Lily eyed them as they joined them.
"Of course," the three responded in unison. Lily and Remus shared a look as the other three burst into laughter.

"Shite, that was close," Lexi gasped as they finally reached the safety of the common room.
"Too close," James grumbled dropping onto the couch.
"Almost like they knew we were going to do it," Sirius added as he took an armchair.
"No one could have," Lexi shook her head. "We were very careful about where we spoke about it." She didn't miss the look the two of them shared. Her eyes narrowed. "What did you two do?
"We, uh, may have been talking about it yesterday before we ran into Snivellus," Sirius muttered.
"Bloody idiots," she shook her head and headed to her dorm.
"Why'd you tell her," James rolled his eyes.
"I can't lie to her, mate," Sirius grinned. James smirked and shook his head.
"You two make me feel baccy," James chuckled.
"Why is that?"
"I want to be mad at you for telling her we mucked up, but I'm happy you don't lie to her even about something like that."
"We just don't lie to each other," Sirius sighed with a smile. "She knows everything about me, I know everything about her."
"Like what actually happened this summer," James raised an eyebrow. Sirius' smile faded as he stared off into the fireplace.
"It doesn't have anything to do with her," Sirius shook his head. "I don't have anything to do with them. It's over now."
"But it's not. The war is still coming, attacks happening more frequently, and there's a pending attack on Hogsmeade," James scoffed.
"They were just talking about it, it wasn't happening yet."
"Yet," James looked at him sternly. "From what you told me it sounded like it would happen after this year, Padfoot."
"They aren't any of my business anymore," Sirius grumbled.
"A Death Eater in training at the school near where an attack will happen involving your girlfriend is your business," James argued. There was silence between them. Sirius opened his mouth to say something but the portrait hole opened as Lily and McGonagall entered.
"Potter, Black, where is Garrett," McGonagall looked cross. Lily was standing slightly behind her, arms crossed and a glare fixed on them.
"She's been up in the dorm, I assume she's working on some music," James shrugged with a grin.
"Something wrong," Sirius asked with an identical grin.
"Miss Evans, if you could get Miss Garrett please," the teacher instructed and Lily went off. "Have the three of you been anywhere other than the commons this evening?"
"No ma'am, been here since Evans went to patrol," Sirius answered easily.
"What's going on," Lexi asked following Lily from the girls dorm.
"They're trying to figure out where we've been," James was still grinning.
"Oh, well, we were down here with Lily before she left for patrol. I hung out with them for a bit before heading up to the dorm to work on some music until now," Lexi explained like she was confused as to why they were being questioned.
"Lexi," Lily eyed her friend sternly.
"What, Lil? That's what happened," Lexi rolled her eyes. "What's this about?"
"We were told someone or someones were messing around the Slytherin Commons. There was concern they were there to torment the students," McGonagall watched the three carefully.
"Who told you that," James asked skeptically.
"Well, considering you came to question the three of us I'm assuming Snivellus," Lexi scoffed before the teacher could answer.
"Miss Garrett, there is no need for name calling."
"Really? He said he saw us, didn't he," Lexi crossed her arms and looked at Lily who blushed slightly.
"We've not done anything," Sirius added incredulously. "He just upset Lexi almost-!"
"I can ask the fat lady if I must," McGonagall warned, cutting him off.
"Do it, we weren't out," James gestured to the door. The teacher sighed and headed to the portrait. Lexi shot James and Sirius a nervous look and Lily's jaw dropped.
"You liars," she hissed quietly.
"Shush up, Lil," Lexi whispered back. "James what are you-"
"It's fine, Lex," Sirius grinned at her.
"Sorry to disturb you," They heard McGonagall's voice, "but have any students come through this evening before Miss Evans with myself?"
"No ma'am, not since Miss Evans left earlier this evening," they heard the painting answer. Lexi tried to hide the shock on her face as their head of house returned.
"I supposed that settles everything. I will be sure to speak with Mr. Snape and Professor Slughorn," she still didn't look fully convinced of their innocence. "Good evening." She swept from the commons before they could answer.
"What were you doing," Lily glared at the three of them.
"Hold on, I want to know how we just got out of that one," Lexi smirked at James and Sirius.
"We've got a good relationship with dear ol' Abigail," Sirius beamed.
"She has a name," Lily asked suddenly.
"Of course she does, Lil," James smirked. "She's not just the "Fat Lady.""
"So she just lied for us, to a teacher," Lexi laughed.
"Yes, she's had us a few times now," Sirius chuckled.
"We are sure to chat her up, flatter her," James added.
"You tossers," Lily rolled her eyes. "So what were you doing?"
"Well, these two apparently never went to break into Slytherin second year like they talked about," Lexi smirked pointing at the other two. "So-"
"You didn't," Lily gasped looking at the three.
"No," James sighed, "because we started getting surrounded since Snivellus went and ratted we were down there."
"We made it back here a little while ago. Never made it in, so we didn't do anything wrong," Sirius smirked.
"You had planned on breaking rules, not to mention out after curfew," Lily began pacing and lecturing them. "How did you even make it out of the dungeons without being caught?" James, Sirius, and Lexi all shared a smirk.
"C'mon, Lil, we know this school better than anyone," James chuckled.
"Passageways, short cuts, you name it we know it," Sirius winked.
"We didn't even run into anyone," Lexi giggled. "Now c'mon, I know you want to change." The girls headed back to the dorm with one last suspicious look from Lily.
"We need to be sure to thank Abigail," Sirius smirked.
"We aren't finished talking about Regulus," James eyed him knowingly. Sirius sighed.
"I know you're right. Honestly, I probably should have told Dumbledore by now, let alone the girl with the Visions," he gave a half hearted chuckle.
"So?"
"Before break is over," Sirius nodded.
XX
"Lexi, you all would have been in serious trouble for-"
"We know, Lil," Lexi laughed, shaking her head as Lily changed into more comfortable clothes.
"Did you at least find out where they go with Rem," Lily sighed.
"No, neither of them will budge," Lexi shook her head. "I keep trying to think about where they may go but who bloody knows. It can't be the room of requirement. It's too dangerous to have him in the castle while he's like that."
"So where could they go and not be in the castle? There are rumors that Werewolves run wild in the Forest, you saw them leaving the Forest."
"Too easy for him to wander up here. Remember Dumbledore doesn't know about the boy's secret either. So it has to be somewhere he wouldn't have a guard around him."
"Maybe we can use a trace spell, follow them one night."
"Who are you and what have you done with Lily Evans," Lexi laughed.
"Curiosity is indeed a motivator," Lily grinned.
"We'll start researching," Lexi nodded. "We have a month."

"Why did we say yes to this," Lexi groaned as she finished sliding on her strappy black heels and looked herself over in the mirror. She had her hair up in a sleek ponytail and a tight black dress that rested mid-thigh. Her necklace was the only jewelry she had on.
"Because Slughorn has found out if he asks me it will always be a yes," Lily grumbled, smoothing out her yellow knee length flowy dress.
"I'm just wondering how he convinced me to perform. That creep and collecting students," Lexi shook her head. "I'm going to head down."
"I'll be right there," Lily nodded as she adjusted a pin in her hair. Lexi grabbed her guitar and headed down the stairs. The boys were already waiting in their suits.
"This is not how we spend Christmas eve," James complained as Lexi stepped off the stairs.
"Trust me, I'd rather be in sweats and drinking here," Lexi rolled her eyes.
"You look beautiful, Love," Sirius smiled at her as he walked over to kiss her.
"And I've got to watch that all night," James groaned.
"Shut it," Lexi laughed. "Wait until you see Lily, your tune will change."
"Speaking of," Remus grinned from his seat with his book. "When is that happening?" James began blushing harshly.
"Awe, Jamie, you're blushing," Lexi giggled.
"I told you, Prongs, do it when it feels right," Sirius grinned wolfishly.
"Do what," Lily asked as she joined them.
"Uh, nothing," James sputtered standing up quickly. "You look amazing."
"Thanks," she blushed.
"Alright, let's get going," Lexi smirked and the group headed for Slughorn's office.
"So what are these things like," Sirius asked.
"It's a lot of people kissing Slughorn's ass," Lexi sighed. "I haven't been to one of his Christmas Parties yet, even the ones he has before everyone leaves. He's always tried to get me to show up to sing. That's the only reason he really wants me around. Lily and Remus it's because they are good in class-"
"So are you," Sirius smiled at her and wrapped his arm over her shoulder.
"Yeah, but he wants me to be part of his collection just because of my talent. Not my smarts."
"Don't sound all bitter, Lex. You are good," James grinned.
"I just get the creeps from him," Lexi shivered.
"I think most people do," Remus chuckled. "C'mon, Lexi, you know he doesn't have me here because of my marks."
"I think your baccy," Lily rolled her eyes at Remus. "There is no way he has you here just because of that."
"I still don't understand why he invites any of you at all," a drawling voice came from ahead of them. The group of five stopped. Snape was ahead of them wearing an old black suit that seemed a little big for him.
"We have more talent than any bone in your body, Snivellus," James glared, wiping the smirk off Snapes face. "Or do you need a repeat of what Lexi did two weeks ago?" Snape headed into the office they were walking towards.
"Snivellus goes to these things," Sirius asked in shock.
"Yes, Slughorn thinks he has a great talent in Potions," Lexi grumbled as they continued.
"Slughorn's not wrong," Lily sighed, getting shocked looks from the other four. "I'm not going to downplay someone's academic work just because you don't like him." She continued towards the door at the end of the Hall.
"Wait, Lil," James jogged after her.
"Merlin, it's going to be a long night," Remus sighed following them.
"I guess we should go too," Sirius sighed offering his arm out. She smiled and took it. They walked into the office and their jaws dropped. It had been transformed into a winter wonderland. There were about fifteen students total milling around and a few of the other professors including Slughorn (obviously), McGonagall, Flitwick, Sprout, Raepick (their current DADA teacher), and Dumbledore.
"Merlin, I need a drink," Lexi groaned as she watched Lily and James chat with Slughorn. Remus was over near the drink table speaking with Maria.
"C'mon," Sirius smirked and pulled her towards Remus.
"Small party," Remus commented as they joined him and Maria.
"It's going to be a bloody snore," Lexi sighed. "How are you Maria?"
"I-I'm good. How are you," Lexi noticed the slight fear in her eyes. She had been used to some students being hesitant of her ever since her incident in fourth year. Luckily with how much drama runs around the school it wasn't a hot topic for long.
"I'm doing good," Lexi smiled.
"I'm hoping better than good," Sirius chuckled, kissing the top of Lexi's head.
"Wait," Maria looked at them, a smile forming on her lips. "Are you two actually together?"
"Yes we are," Sirius' wolfish grin fell onto his lips.
"There were rumors for months, but I wasn't sure," Maria giggled.
"Well, we just went public with it, just the school has been empty," Lexi smiled, taking the drink Sirius had just poured her.
"Probably for the better," Remus chuckled. "You two are going to cause quite a scene when everyone is back."
"I'm sure," Lexi sighed.
"I'm going to go say hi to, Lily," Maria said excusing herself.
"Rem, ask her to dance," smirked.
"Lex, we've discussed this," Remus sighed.
"It doesn't have to be a relationship, Moony," Sirius chuckled, wagging his eyebrows. Remus rolled his eyes and walked away from the two. Lexi sipped her drink.
"There's no alcohol huh," she sighed.
"Love, when do I ever come to something like this unprepared," Sirius smirked at her and looked around. He slipped a flask out of his inside suit pocket and poured some into each of their cups.
"Merlin, I love you," she smirked and pecked him on the lips.
"I love you too," he smiled.
"Alexandra," she winced when she heard Slughorn's voice.
"Professor," she smiled, turning around.
"First of all I'll thank you, just like I did Lily, for getting James and Sirius here finally," he smiled and laughed, his belly shaking.
"We didn't really give them a choice," Lexi grinned.
"Well, either way, they're finally here. I've got a set up by the piano for you. I wasn't sure what all you would need."
"Just the mic. I prefer a guitar," she smiled. "I do have an extra surprise for you actually, sir."
"Oh delightful. What is it?"
"You'll see soon," she grinned. Sirius was watching that mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Wonderful! We'll have you get started in a few minutes, it seems like everyone is here now, Hagrid just walked in!" Sure enough the large grounds keeper had just walked in wearing a moleskin suit. The Potions Master wandered back off into the crowd.
"What surprise do you have for Sluggy," Sirius asked suspiciously.
"Down your drink," she smirked. "You're doing this with me."
"Lex-"
"C'mon, I don't want to do it anyway. Just do it with me," she stepped close to him and her tune changed to that purr that made him weak. "I'll make it worth your while, Black." She looked up at him through her eyelashes and seductively messed with his tie.
"You make this unfair," he sighed. "You win." She smiled and grabbed his hand pulling him over to the set up. They set their drinks on a table near the piano and she unpacked her guitar.
"Basically, we're going to play like we do at home," Lexi sighed handing the guitar to Sirius.
"So, our normal Christmas songs?"
"Yup. Start with 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'-"
"So just you. Do you want me to play?"
"Yes. Then 'Baby, It's Cold Outside.'"
"Just the two?"
"Yup, I told him because I'm technically about to be on a contract I couldn't do more," she smirked.
"You minx," he chuckled. "You think we could get James to help with 'Baby, It's Cold Outside?'"
"I think we could," she smiled and walked away to where James, Remus, and Lily were chatting. He watched Lexi pull James off from the other two. She said something to him and he shook his head no. She said something else that made him flush, he finally nodded. Sirius was laughing as she walked back over with a large smile.
"Is that a yes?"
"Blackmail to get it, but yes," she giggled.
"Are you ready Alexandra," Slughorn asked walking over.
"Yes, sir," she smiled.
"Perfect," he beamed then turned to the room. Sirius pulled the Piano bench so he was closer to Lexi and put the guitar on. "Ladies and Gentlemen," the room went quiet while everyone turned their attention to their host. "We are in for a real treat tonight. Miss Garrett has recently been picked up by Mr. Brunner at MMR and has agreed to give us a small Christmas treat." There was scattered applause as he walked away.
"Hello," Lexi said into the mic which amplified her voice slightly. "I convince another talented student to play for me tonight," she smirked over at Sirius before looking back at the crowd. "Feel free to enjoy yourself, dance, whatever you'd like." Sirius began strumming for a moment before she started singing.
"Have yourself a merry little Christmas. Let your heart be light. From now on our troubles will be out of sight." She smiled over at her friends as she sang and winked over at Sirius. "Have yourself a merry little Christmas. Make the Yuletide gay. From now on our troubles will be miles away. Here we are as in olden days-Happy golden days of yore. Faithful friends who are dear to us, gather near to us once more." James smiled at the girl he saw as his sister. He knew why she did this song every year. It was her mum's favorite Christmas song. "Through the years we all will be together. If the fates allow. Hang a shining star upon the highest bough. And have yourself a merry little Christmas. Have yourself a merry little Christmas-Have yourself a merry little Christmas, now." The room burst into applause as she finished.
"Alright, if my other assistant would please join us," she smiled. Sirius stood so he was closer to the mic with her as James sluggishly joined them. There were whispers around the room. Lexi smirked as she saw Lily and Remus trying to contain her laughter. James had always been a good singer but didn't show it. He had been caught by both Lexi and Sirius before and neither would ever let him live it down. She even tried convincing James to help her more than percussion on her stuff but he wouldn't. Sirius began playing again after the three had hushed conversation away from the mic. Sirius counted out quietly before they started signing.
L:I really can't stay
S: Baby, it's cold outside
L: I've got to go away
S: Baby, it's cold outside
L: This evening has been
S: Been hoping that you'd drop in
L: So very nice, I'll hold your hands
S: They're just like ice
L: My mother will start to worry
S: Beautiful, what's your hurry
L: My father will be pacing the floor
S: Listen to the fireplace roar
L: So really I'd better scurry
S: Beautiful, please don't hurry
The two smiled lovingly at each other as they sang. James smirked, patting his leg adding a steady tempo.
L: Well maybe just a half a drink more
S: Put some records on while I pour
L: The neighbors might think
S: Baby, it's bad out there
L: Say what's in this drink
S: No cabs to be had out there
L: I wish I knew how
S: Your eyes are like starlight now
L: To break this spell
S: I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
L: I ought to say no, no, no, sir
S: Mind if I move a little closer
L: At least I'm gonna say that I tried
S: What's the sense in hurting my pride
L: I really can't stay,
S: baby, don't hold out
B: Ah, but it's cold outside
James counted to three and started clapping with the beat to get the crowd joining.
L: I've got to go home
S&J: Oh baby, you'll freeze out there
L: Say, lend me your coat
S&J: It's up to your knees out there
Lexi looked over to Lily who's jaw had dropped.
L: You've really been grand
S&J: The thrill when you touch my hand
She peeked at James who was staring at Lily.
L: But don't you see
S&J: How can you do this thing to me?
L: There's bound to be talk tomorrow
S&J: Making my life long sorrow
L: At least there will be plenty implied
S&J: If you caught pneumonia and died
L: I really can't stay,
S&J: get over that old out
ALL: Ah, but it's cold outside
There was loud applause from the room and whooping from a few students including Lily and Remus. The three who finished singing bowed and music began drifting through the air magically.
