Alex's P.O.V

It was in the afternoon; I sat downstairs reading while drinking a cup of coffee with blood. Victor was eating some food in the kitchen, and Daniel decided to go to the Grill. I didn't want to talk to anyone, which Victor noticed the second he walked past the parlor room where I was sitting. That's what I liked about him; he just knew when you needed your space. I was still on edge with the arrival of Esther. I bookmarked my page before walking out of the parlor room, leaving my coffee behind.

I saw Rebekah and Damon coming down the stairs. Damon didn't have a shirt on, and Rebekah was wearing the same dress from last night. Ok, now I wished I had gone to the kitchen and talked to Victor.

"Good afternoon, Alex," Rebekah greeted me, with a small smirk, and stepped past me with my older brother. I watched them disappear from my eyesight, then continued to walk back up to my room.

I laid on my bed and sighed. Why can't Klaus take a hint? Or Damon notice that Esther being in my dream isn't strange? I heard Damon say something to Stefan downstairs. " Fine. Neither one of us gets her, " Great they're talking about Elena. " Just make sure she doesn't screw up Esther's plan. " I sat up at that sentence. Esther's plan?

I wandered out of my room as Damon was coming up the stairs. "What plan?" I asked him.

"You know it's rude to eavesdrop," Damon smirked as he walked towards his room, which was two doors down from mine.

"What plan, Damon?" I insisted.

"Esther's going to kill all her children tonight with a linking spell she did last night with the champagne," Damon explained, before walking into his room and closing the door behind him. I didn't move from my spot as I stare out into the empty hallway. Goddamnit Klaus! Why couldn't you have just believed me?!

I walked back into my room and texted Klaus, ' Can we talk? ' I waited for a while and saw he had read the message. When I realized he wasn't going to answer me, I threw my phone across the room in frustration. I heard it break, but didn't give a shit at the moment. Why do you have to be so difficult?

~Later that Night~

I heard a knock on my door and saw Damon standing there. "Get dressed," He ordered. "You're going to distract Klaus tonight."

"And why would I do that?" I asked him, slightly annoyed.

"Because we're going to dagger Kol to save Elena from Rebekah," He explained.

"Of course, this has to do with Elena," I chuckled. "So why does Rebekah want her dead?" I asked him as I sat down on the edge of my bed.

"Elijah found out Esther's plan, and Elena's leverage so we stop Esther. But since they're all linked we're going to dagger one of them, i.e., Kol, who's currently at the Grill drinking with Klaus, according to Alaric," Damon elaborated. "That way the original family goes to sleep, and we can get Elena out alive." I did have to admit it was a good plan, but I wasn't going to mention the part about Klaus not begin affected by the daggers.

"And you need me to distract Klaus while you lure Kol away," I said as if I had just caught onto their plan.

"Exactly," Damon confirmed. "Now get dress and get your ass to the Grill," Damon then walked out of my room. At least now I can warn Klaus.

~At the Grill~

I walked into the Grill and immediately noticed Klaus and his brother, I turned and looked at Alaric, then made my way to the bar. I walked by them as if I didn't notice them and Klaus stopped me like I thought he would.

"Alexandria," Klaus said, and I turned to him.

"Oh, it's you," I snapped and crossed my arms as I stood in front of him.

"Join us for a drink?" He asked softer than his previous tone. I looked between Klaus and his brother, Kol, as they held out their drinks to me.

"Mm, no thanks, I'd rather die of thirst," I said and walked out of the Grill. I hope you follow me outside; we seriously need to have a chat.

I walked across the street and heard a car honk its horn behind me. "Alexandria!" I heard Klaus yell and I turned to him.

"What?" I asked him, but I made it sound angrier than it was.

"Don't be angry, love," He softly said to me as I began to walk away from him, and he followed me. "We had a little spat. I'm over it already."

"Yeah, well why can't you just listen to me for once," I told him. I heard him stop walking and saw him sitting on a bench behind me.

"Come on, Alex. Explain to me why you're so sure my mother can't be trusted," Klaus said and smirked at me. "I promise I'll listen."

"Fine." I sat down on the other side of the bench and started to explain the dream to him.

He seemed to be intrigued by it and moved a bit closer to me on the bench. I told him about what his mother said in my dream and where I woke up. When I finished explaining myself, we looked at each other, and I sighed as I held my hands in my lap. Klaus thought for a moment before placing a hand over my own, which caused me to notice how close we were. His arm was behind my back, resting my the bench.

"I wish you told me this sooner," He said and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. I watched his hand as he watched my expression.

"You believe me," I said, and he smiled a bit as we stared into each other's eyes. "Why do you wish I had told you sooner?" I asked him.

"Because there is a bond between us, Alex, and I wouldn't be shocked if my mother wanted to destroy it," Klaus explained.

I was about to ask more questions when Klaus touched his chest and stood up. I stood up as well, which I regret, and moved my hand towards my heart. Soon I felt very weak, like I was dying, and became dizzy. I began to fall to the ground when Klaus rushed towards me. He caught me in his arms as my eyes slide to the back of my head.

Klaus's P.O.V

I felt pain against my chest, and I held Alex in my arms. She was unconscious, and I instantly sped back to the Grill towards Kol, where I heard Damon, Stefan, and Alaric voices. I rushed down the stairs, and left Alex there, as I undaggered Kol, whose body was currently being pulled into the alleyway by Alaric.

I threw Alaric to the wall, then Stefan charged towards me, and I quickly pushed him into the wall behind me. I turned to Damon and was surprised that he hadn't noticed his sister yet. "I should have killed you months ago," I told Damon.

"Do it," He said. "It's not going to stop Esther from killing you."

"Yes, your sister did warn me about her," I pointed towards Alex. "I only wished I had listened to her sooner," I told him. Damon looked over at Alex's body and sped over to her immediately. He pulled her into his lap as Kol woke up. Alex still wasn't awake, and she should have been, the daggers don't affect hybrids.

"What did you do to her?!" Damon yelled at me, and Stefan walked towards his siblings after he healed.

"I didn't do anything to her," I said. "This happened when you daggered my brother." I was about to attack him for accusing me of such a thing when Elijah's voiced echoed through the alleyway.

"Leave him!" I looked up at Elijah who was standing behind Damon at the top of the stairs. "We still need them, Niklaus," Elijah said, and I looked at him.

"What did mother do to her? Why isn't she waking up like the rest of you did?" I asked him. Elijah walked down the stairs towards the Salvatore siblings, holding out a phone to Damon.

"You tell me where the witches are, or I'll have my sister kill Elena right now," Elijah threatened, and Damon gazed up at the clock tower above him.

"You told me we had until after nine," Damon said defensively, and Elijah looked down at Alex. Then Damon glanced at his sister worried and tried to wake her up.

"Then do it for your sister," Elijah persuasively to him, and Damon glared at us.

He was silent for a few moments as he turned to his little brother. Stefan looked like he might kill Damon if he told us anything, but when Damon peered down at Alex, then he sighed. "They're at the witch's house," He said. "Now tell me how to fix my sister." I walked up to him and Alex, as Kol got to his feet.

"Give her to us, and I give my word she will be ok," I assured him. Damon looked at Stefan again, not knowing if he should trust me, but Stefan was staring at me intently. Damon then scrunched up his face before picking up Alex's unconscious body and handing her to me.

"If she dies," I looked at Damon with Alex in my arms. "I will not hesitate to kill you," Damon declared, in a serious tone, and I sped away with my brothers.

~At the Witch's House~

Kol, Elijah, and I, with Alex in my arms, walked up to our mother and Finn. I placed Alex on the ground, a good amount away from my mother, and walked up to them. "My sons, come forward," My mother ordered, and I made sure to stand in front of Alex as I walked up to her.

Finn placed a hand in front of our mother, "Stay beside me," He told her.

"It's ok," She said to him. "They can't enter." Kol approached the pentagram, and the torches around it flared-up.

He back up a bit, "That's lovely," Kol said, sarcastically to the pair of them. "We're stuck out here, while the favorite son plays sacrificial lamb. How pathetic you are, Finn."

"Be quiet, Kol," Mother snapped. "Your brother knows virtue you cannot even imagine."

"Whatever you think of us, killing your own children or Alex will be an atrocity," Elijah said, scoldingly.

"My only regret is that I did not let you die a thousand years ago," Mother stated then looked over at Alex, who still laid still behind me. "As for Alex, she must go." I came closer to her, as I started to get annoyed.

"Enough. All this talk is boring to me. End this now, Mother, fix Alex, or I'll send you back to hell." I warned her. My mother journeyed closer to us but still did not leave the pentagram.

"For a thousand years, I've been forced to watch you. Felt the pain of every victim, suffered while you shed blood," She turned to Elijah. "Even you, Elijah, with your claim to nobility, you're no better. All of you. You're a curse on this Earth. Stretched out over generations." My mother said and faced me again. "Loving you will always have been Alex's' downfall. She must die for your bond to be destroyed and for you to stay truly dead. So, if you have come to plead for your life or save hers, I'm sorry, but you've wasted your time."

We stood there not being able to enter the pentagram and stop our mother, as she started her spell. Then I heard a high pitched scream from where Alex was laying, and I sped over to her. Dark red veins were coming up her arms, and she kept thrashing around as if she was burning from the inside out.

"What's happening to her?" I yelled at my mother, but she wouldn't answer. I looked back down at Alex and saw her mark glowing bright red on her chest through her shirt. I hissed in pain when I felt as if someone had set my heart on fire and looked down see dark red vein crawl up my arms. I managed to pull down my shirt to see my mark glowing bright red as well.

All of a sudden Alex stopped screaming. I looked at her as the pain from my chest started to fade away, and our marks didn't glow anymore. I watched as the red veins retreated and eventually disappeared from our arms. "No! Sisters!" I turned back to my mother who was shouting at the spirits. "Do not abandon me!" The flames were surrounding Finn and her.

"Mother!" Finn yelled and pulled her away from the fire.

Alex's P.O.V

I shot up with a gasp and looked around me. There was a pentagram with unlit torches. Klaus was crouched down on the floor next to me and staring at me worriedly. I felt tears on my cheeks and wiped them away. I went to stand up but almost fell when Klaus caught me. I looked up at him as I found my balance again and brushed the dirt off my skirt.

Before I had the chance to ask him what had happened, someone yelled, "Alex!" I followed the voice to see Damon and Stefan behind Klaus. Klaus moved out of the way as they rushed towards me and pulled me into a hug. We stayed like that for a while, and I looked behind them to see the three Mikaelson men staring at us intently. I looked down and stepped back from the hug my brothers gave me.

"Are you ok?" Stefan asked, and I nodded.

"I'm fine," I assured them, but it was a lie. I wasn't ok, and my brothers knew it, though they didn't force me to talk.

"Come on, let's go home," Damon said to us and began to walk towards to woods behind me with Stefan. I turned around but didn't follow them.

"Um," They turned to me. "I'll just meet you at home," I informed them.

"What?" Damon asked as he walked back up to me. Stefan stayed where he was. "Where are you going?"

"I have a few questions I want to ask Klaus," I answered and glanced at Klaus over my shoulder, then turned back around to Damon. "He's the only one who can answer them, not to mention I need some time to think."

"You can't trust him, Alexandria," Damon stated, and I looked up at him with fire in my eyes.

"I didn't say I trusted him, Damon," I said, trying to control my temper and not yell at him. I breathed out through my nose and looked up at him again. "I have some questions only he can answer. Not to mention I told you I didn't trust her and you brushed off as if I was crazy," Damon at me looked annoyed.

"You had a dream-"

"Where I was in a burning car, and Esther was chanting a spell!" I exclaimed cutting him off. "Look at what happened, Damon! She could have killed me, and you didn't stop her or listen to me when I expressed my concerns, just as you did with Mikael!" Damon and I stared at each other, both angry with the other. "Just…" I pressed my lips together, "Let me think and get the answers I need before I go home." I breathed out, and Damon didn't move, he seemed convinced not to let me talk to Klaus. "Please," I begged, and Damon's expression didn't change.

"Fine," He snapped.

My older brother then turned on his heel and walked off into the woods. Stefan stared at me before looking down and walking away. Great, job Alex, go ahead and piss off your other brother while you're at it. I turned around to the Mikaelsons with a sigh. Elijah and Kol, looked at me, with no expression written on their faces and it made me uncomfortable. But Klaus walked up to me with a smirk, and it made me feel slightly better. He walked to my side and placed his hand on my lower back, before looking down at me.

"Come on, love," Klaus suggested, and I looked up at him. "Let's go to my house, and you can ask all the questions you want."

"Ok," I agreed, and Klaus sped me to his house.

~At the Mikaelson Manor~

Klaus and I were sitting in the living room. His brothers went upstairs to give us some privacy. "So," Klaus said as he handed me a glass of bourbon. "What did you want to ask me?" I took a sip of my drink.

"Well, the obvious question first," I started. "What happened?"

"Well, when your brothers daggered Kol you passed out from the feeling of dedication," He answered. "Turns out my mother linked you to my family and me so that she could kill you. Then when I undaggered Kol, you didn't wake up. Damon saw you passed out and told us where my mother and Finn were, then we took you there with us, and I demanded mother fix you, but she refused."

"But why did she refuse?" I asked him as he drank his alcohol. "I mean I never even met her."

"Well, she wanted to destroy a bond between us, the one she mentions in your dream," Klaus said.

"But what is this bond between us? And why do I have to die to destroy it?" I asked and scooted closer to him.

"About fifteen thousand years ago, as legend has it, two alphas werewolves adored each other. They never wanted to be apart, even in death, so they asked a local witch, who was a good friend of theirs, to cast a spell on them to bound their souls together for all eternity." Klaus began to explain. "As generations passed their descendants also had soulmates assigned to them, but those people had no connection to the two wolves, even though rather complement their soulmates personalities.

"Nowadays, Omega-beta soulmates are the ones you find most often, and they have little to no power in their bonds. Then sometimes you'll find an Alpha-Omega or Alpha-Beta pairing, and they have some power. But the Alpha-Alpha bonds," Klaus chuckled. "They're the strongest soulmate bonds on the market, love — both Alphas, willing to rip apart the world to protect each other. There's nothing more powerful," Klaus said with a slight smile.

Soulmates couldn't be real. They didn't exist. It was just a fictional story told to give foolish lovers hope that their relationship wasn't in peril. I laughed, "You can't be serious, Klaus. Soulmates aren't real. They're a story."

"If I'm correct, you have a mark on your chest of two hearts, with an infinity symbol through it," Klaus said, and I looked at him amazed.

"How did you know that?" I asked him, and he smiled. I had never told anyone that.

Klaus then pulled down his shirt slightly and showed the same symbol on his chest. I lifted my hand lightly and grazed the mark with my fingers. "When the witch bounded the two wolves' souls together, she marked their bond above their hearts. Every mark is unique to each pair of souls," Klaus stated, and he flattens my hand against the mark, then held it there. The hold on my wrist was both firm and gentle like I had the option to let go, but he didn't want me to, and I looked up at him.

I stared into his eyes, and I swear I could feel a real tug towards him. I saw his eye swimming with emotions of uncertainty and love towards me. He looked down at my lips and slowly started to sit up. He leaned in and gently, as my undead heartbeat sped up a bit, then placed his lips on mine. It was a soft kiss, and I didn't expect that from him. In the '20s, all of our kisses were quick and rough, but this one was slow and sweet. Like he was trying to fit a century's worth of emotions into one kiss. As we kissed, my hands slowly trail up into his hair, while he pulled my body closer to him, causing me to arch my back towards him.

We pulled away from each other, and he leaned his forehead against mine, as my brain started to process what had just happened.

I kissed him.

I kissed Klaus.

He opened his eyes and looked at me. Klaus seemed so peaceful like everything horrible in his life had disappeared in this one moment. I made eye contact with him and stood up awkwardly, "Um, I'm just going to go home." I said and began to walk towards the door. Klaus stood up from the couch and grabbed my wrist.

"Alex-" I pulled my wrist out of his grip and stopped him.

"Don't," I begged him. "Please, don't finish that sentence." I bowed my head before looking back up at him. "This can't happen. Damon and Stefan would never forgive me."

I made my way towards the door and opened it. When I looked back at him, I saw a man with a sad expression written across his face. I could tell he had been waiting for a moment like that and it made me feel pity for the peaceful man I saw earlier.

"I'm sorry," I said, subdued by the situation. I walked out the door with my head down and closed it behind me.

And to my relief, neither of my brothers were awake to greet me.
