Chapter 26

Okk I know I've been gone for quite a while :/

Sorry!

I think I needed ANOTHER break which I'm not sure what that says about me maybe I'm just lazy XD

The point is, I'm back now and I'm trying to get back in the routine of writing daily but just bear with me because I'm not exactly consistent.

This chapter's mainly based on Katara.

-oOo-

Jet…

This wasn't right. Jet was dead, everyone knew that. Everyone had grieved then moved on, distracted by the task of defeating the Fire Lord. To have someone you had accepted was gone just placed in front of you was unnerving, unreal.

Katara's eyes drifted in and out of focus feeling incredulous and, against her better judgement, furious. Why did she feel like that? It reminded her of her attitude to her father after they were reunited. All she had wanted from the day he left was to see her dad again.

Every quiet moment was spent internally begging him to come home. She wished so hard that she felt physically exhausted and tears began to seep out the corners of her eyes.

When the day came that they were reunited her immediate warm joy that had initially filled her was marred by something cold. Something unexpected. Pent-up rage emerged and caused her to pull away from the hug, to drift off and see to the, still unconscious, Aang.

So Jet hadn't left. He wasn't her father. But Katara had been so sure that she would never see him again, let alone forgive him. She had been wrong. She had seen him, in Ba Sing Se and despite her first reaction to his sudden appearance, forgiven him with time.

Then Long-Feng had ended it. Jet left again, against his will perhaps, but everyone had been so sure that he had left the world. This sudden appearance was as abrupt as the first day they met.

The same reoccurring thoughts swirled uncontrollably as they had in the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe's absence.

How could you leave me…?

How could you leave us…?

You never cared.

You never cared.

You don't care about us.

The echoing was becoming unbearable, frantic noises bouncing off the inside of her skull, distant screams.

The old nightmare was back.

No, it's over, it's over…

It'll never be over.

Please.

Katara sank to her knees on the brown polished floor. She ignored the worried glances from her companions. Her tears must seem unreasonable to them. If only they could understand…

The glass of water sitting on a table exploded. Drips cascaded onto the floor.
