Chapter 27- "paradoxes"
(Hiccup's perspective)
We flew above the clouds above the Hysterics ship. The ship was large! It was at least 250 feet long and 50 feet wide. It had a very round front and a very round back; the boat wasn't as pointed as most. The back of the boat had a large cabin that probably housed the kitchen, Norberts chambers and a few other things.
On the side was the name of the boat but it was unreadable through the clouds and the distance
We followed the boat until it passed a small island then we swooped in and had the dragons cling to the side of the boat. Cami and I slid into the water silently and swam to the ladder on the side with some help from Shipwreck.
Me and Cami climbed the ladder and over the side of the boat, Thuggory stayed with the dragons.
While climbing the ladder I read the name on the side of the ship; the american dream III. (1)
The board the name was written on was weathered and chipped and much more damaged than the rest of the boat, the words The American Dream II were darker and older than the extra I at the end.
"Who 'er you?" a Hysteric near us asked threateningly once we made it up.
"We are Camicazi and… Hiccup of the Bog Burglar tribe." Cami said
"Ahh, yer the ones that gave us the map." the hysteric said calming down
"Indeed we are." I said
"I'm sure Norbert would want te talk to you." he said as he led us towards the large cabin on the back
Because the hysteric was walking ahead of us I whispered to Cami.
"He didn't bother wondering how we got on the ship." I said
"Maybe he thinks we swam from one of the nearby islands and made it to the ladder, let's stick with it." she whispered back
We approached the large cabin at the back and the hysteric that escorted us here opened the door for us.
"Norbert. Hiccup and Cami are here." he said
"They are?" he asked bewildered
"How in the blue blazes did they do that?" he asked
"I don't know, sir." the man answered
"Leave me Arnold." Norbert said as he ushered us in
The two of us walked in and found Norbert sitting at a large wooden desk the entire cabin was silent as his right eye twitched as he stared at us
"How did you get on my boat?" he asked menacingly
"We were on one of the islands you passed and we saw you coming so we swam to intercept you and managed to grab hold of the ladder." Cami said
"I told Arnold to never leave the ladder lowered." he mumbled
"Anyway! To what do I owe the pleasure?" he asked happily
"We are in a bit of a predicament." I said
"Ohh?" he asked
"You see, Stoick, my father is trying to take me away from my new home and my friends. He also wants my friends to be executed. He demands that we find a third witness to prove that I had asked Cami here to kidnap me."
"The problem is, me and Hiccup were the only people present for that conversation, so now Stoick wants Thor to prove who is right by striking one of two offerings with lightning." Cami carried on
"I don't believe in Thor and I don't want my life ruined and the lives of my friends ended because of a random lightning strike." I said
"So we need to find a way to fix this, if you know of a way please help us." Cami pleaded
Norbert was silent for a while, his fingers were steepled in an unnerving way.
"If I help you I would be interfering with fate." he said disapprovingly
Me and Cami were silent but my mind was racing trying to find a way to appeal to him so he would help us.
After a short while I got it!
"What if… its fate's will that you interfere with fate to help us." I said slowly
You could see he was concentrating very hard on what I had said and it seemed to hurt.
"I… Errr…" he stuttered
then his eyes gazed off into space and he just passed out forward on his desk
"I think you broke him." Cami giggled
We sat there for a minute till he woke up again
"Gggnnnnrrrr…" he groaned
He groggily lifted his head up off the table
He noticed we were still here and his eyes snapped awake.
The three of us sat there silently not moving.
After probably a full 5 minutes of silent staring Norbert spoke.
"Tall Metal objects attracts lightning." he dead panned
"But whatever you just did… please don't do it again." he shuddered
"Thank you." Cami shouted as she raced out of the cabin
"I hope this expedition works out." I said to Norbert
"What do you mean, of course it will." Norbert said confidently and pridefully
Then I chased Cami to the side of the boat
"You want us to drop you off somewhere along our way?" Norbert offered
"No thanks, we'll swim to one of the sea stacks and find our way back from there." I said
Then me and Cami jumped into the water; Cami swan dived, and I Cannon balled.
We landed in the water and swam till the American dream 3 was far enough away so we could get on Toothless and Shipwreck and we flew back to the Bog isles.
(Cami's perspective)
We landed back in the cove, we all hopped off and ran towards the village.
When we got there there was a large amount of work being done.
"Where were you guys?" my mom shouted as she stormed up to us
"Ummm…" me and Hiccup said unison
Thuggory remained silent
"No matter, come on Stoick demands that the three of you be there for the 'Thundering' as he calls it." she said quickly
"But wait we have a plan…" Hiccup said
"Tell me on the boat." she said gruffly
"But I need things from here to make it work." Hiccup said
"Then bring them." she grunted
"I can't bring an entire forge!" Hiccup said exasperated
"Why do you need a forge?" She asked angrily
"We spoke to Norbert…"
"How did you speak to Norbert?" she asked surprised
"Does it matter how?!" I shrieked
"He said that tall metal objects attract lightning, if I make our offering tall and out of metal it should be struck with lightning." Hiccup explained
"I'm sorry Hiccup I can't delay the departure any longer."
Me and Hiccup looked at eachother
"You won't have to." we said in unison
(Bertha's perspective)
I was thoroughly confused.
Hiccup, Cami and Thuggory all stayed behind on the Bog isles, they seemed sure that they would be able to make it to the island on time. How they were gonna get there on time while bringing Hiccup's 'tall metal thing' was beyond me. I just hoped their plan worked out, because if it doesn't Cami won't ever be 25, and I won't ever be able to see my grandkiddies!
(1) this is a refrence to the books in which Norbert the nutjob creates a boat called the American dream II because his father created the American Dream I.
the title of this chapter is silly, but i like it.
I love paradoxes and I've seen people like Vala411 put something funny or silly at the end of their chapters so I might do that and just add a silly question that makes you think and laugh.
First question-
what happens if Pinocchio says 'my nose will grow?'
