Note: I'll need to check but if I'm right, then this will be the second to last episode in this volume, and THEN we can get started in the second one for real!
I'll admit that I perhaps jumped the gun too soon in deleting it due to it not getting as many reviews at first. I was afraid no one knew that it even existed because of that (though I know it wasn't 'everyone', so those who did, thank you). Reviews are just my main go to for how well a story is doing, thus, if I don't have a certain number, I'm afraid no one is interested. I'm going to try it again after this one, so please be aware of when it comes out. I'll note appropriate groups about it too so it'll gain some more traction. I don't want to sound arrogant, but I really want this series to be known decently well, if that's ok.
Also, I noticed how many typos I missed in the past 60+ chapters. Word does not pick up everything. If you want things done better, trust Google Docs. I'm so sorry and I promise next edition will be better.
That said, here's part 1!
Too Many Times Part 1
Mega Man © of Capcom
The room was small, all but one light shone. Two police bots were stationed by the door, looking on at the scene taking place. Behind the glass barrier, a brown haired, bearded man garbed in a shirt and tie looked down at the seated man before him, garbed in a uniform and keeping his head down, his blonde hair catching a good degree of light.
"So….let's go over this again." The light shone down on the man's face, blinding him and rendering him unable to see just how close the brunette, bearded officer on the other side of the table was. "You're Mike. Michael Rodgers, right?" The blonde man didn't answer. "And you're an employee of the local shipping company not too far from here, yeah?" Still no answer. The policemen folded his arms. "We already have all the info we need on who you are and where you work. And we also know that you and your buddies last night tore through and could've very well killed somebody. Or several somebodies." It was then that something came to him. "Y'know, kinda funny you haven't called for a lawyer yet. Or have taken a lie detector test."
"Because I've already admitted to being responsible." Mike said plainly, voice in a monotone. "There is nothing further to discuss."
"Bull." The bearded man said bluntly. "You know damn well that the little trip you had downtown isn't the only reason you're here." He drew closer. "No, I think we both know what cargo you were supposed to deliver that night." He snarled. "And that now, it's somewhere else. Somewhere else that you know." Mike remained silent. "Somewhere you're not telling."
Light Residence
"Thus, the search for the missing portions of the highly controversial mobile suit continues." A blue robot on the screen said, the robot formerly identified as 'Chest'. "According to sources, there were a multitude of deliveries being made that night, yet the authorities believe to have accosted a potential suspect." A blonde haired man in a mugshot came up on the screen. "Michael Rodgers was in one of the two renegade eighteen wheelers last night. Unfortunately, it appeared that his vehicle didn't have the contents the authorities were hoping to find. The other vehicle was found, as well as three more potential suspects, but even their vehicle had not a single piece of the project. Thus, the search continues." Chest adjusted the spectacles on his exaggerated face. "Of course, the public's reaction to this is mixed. Given the disastrous event that took place but a short time ago with said creation of Dr. Thomas Light, there are many who simply want it gone and out of the public's consciousness, citing this as proof that restrictions on robotics as a whole." He seemed to grow tense suddenly. "And others say that this is enough reason to cease all operations regarding AI all together." He was silent for a moment, though he realized he was still on. "In other news, the search for the recently escaped Dr. Albert Wily still is underway-"
The television was promptly shut off. He had heard enough. Dr. Light shook his head.
And to think, things were beginning to look up.
Outside, a good deal else was being pondered in the Blue Bomber currently up on the ceiling, his sensory input heightened due to the light breeze that had decided to blow through today. For what reason would the Mobile Suit be stolen? The theories and potential reasons flooded his processor, yet still, it seemed neither he, nor anyone else in the Light household could come up with a concise explanation. It was still nowhere to be found, so it had to be somewhere, yet what were they planning to do with it? Better yet, where could they go with it? It wasn't as if they could just lug it up the stairs, and such a thing, if attempted, would surely get the culprits caught. And unless they had themselves a degree in biomechanics, it'd probably be quite difficult to put together. Then again, given that there were more of those like himself walking around, for better or worse, perhaps an ordinary person knowing a thing or two about putting things together wasn't as implausible. After all, didn't Cossack's daughter give her bird a new set of wings? Granted, that was with Brain Bot's help, though Mega Man sensed that the Russian girl would die before admitting such a thing.
Oddly enough, the sight of her face appearing in his mind brought with it another, this one bearing a familiar, flowing yellow scarf…
"Mega?" a voice called from below, the blue robot looking down to see Roll peeking out from the door. "Doc's about ready to head out."
"Ok, be right there." Mega answered in turn, the door shutting. He didn't bother to come down, as they were going by air anyway.
Still, even if it was just a visit and update, the Blue Bomber couldn't help but wonder how 'he' was doing. Or rather, as of more recently, how 'they' were doing.
Station
"So, your name?"
"Theo." the brunette man answered, shrinking in his seat. "Theodore Payne. Though...people call me 'Theo'." Theo paused. "Then again, I guess you probably already knew that, since I...well...you know."
"You seem nervous." the interrogator said. "Then again, I'd be nervous too. That little trip you guys took last night was quite a ride, huh?" Theo lowered his head.
'Simone...you had better be right about this.'
"It's a wonder, isn't it? All of you turning yourselves into the police?" the bearded man on the other side of the table said, his arms folded over his chest. "Well, the three of you did at least. Your other 'friend' was caught after making a dive into the river. If anything, despite the damage, he should consider himself lucky that blue boy was there to pull him out." Theo nodded. "You seem relieved at this. Considering that, from what he's said, you were all coerced into this."
"That doesn't mean I wanted him to die!" Theo shouted, reeling himself in. "Sorry…"
"No, no, it's fine." the officer told him. "If anything, it shows you're a man of upstanding character. Even more so as you and the rest of your friends came in of your own will when we took you in. It takes a man to do that, you know. All of you. Well, man and woman, if we're being technical. Theo lowered his head. The officer raised a brow. 'You know more than you're letting on, pal. You and I both know that. You're an open book.'
"Thank you, sir." the sitting man meekly said. "You know, I...I've always admired the police force. I mean...you guys...even if you might struggle with Wily's bots and all, you at least try. It...it's not exactly fair that you get so little recognition."
The officer was silent for a moment. 'So, that's the game you wanna play, huh?' "Thank you." he told Theo plainly. "I'll admit, we don't exactly get much. Granted, Mega Man's exploits aren't exactly liked by everyone, you know."
"Really?"
"Yeah." the officer answered. "Heard that the guys you all work for aren't too happy with the cargo in one of the trucks being unloaded, much less the blue boy essentially tearing through the rest of their stuff when your friend and that truck dove underwater. Stuff' still down there, and even if it IS ever retrieved, it'll be of no good to anyone at this rate."
"I'm...sorry about that." Theo told him. "It's our fault and all...but...but…" he stopped for a moment. "What did Mike tell you guys exactly?"
"Not much." the officer answered. 'Like hell I'd tell you everything.' "Just that he's claimed responsibility for the whole operation." he then leaned over the table, bringing himself closer to Theo. "Your girl-friend, or is it your girlfriend?"
Theo's eyes bulged out. "Did...did Simon tell you-"
"She said nothing about that. Just that you two came to know each other last year." the bearded man said. "But she said you have a daughter. Beautiful girl, she said."
Theo bit his lip. "Yes. That she is."
"Heard she got in an accident a bit back. Took an arm and leg. Course, now she's got them back. Modern science is really something, isn't it?"
"Y-Yeah. Guess it is."
"I've got a daughter too." the officer told him. "Goes to the same school she does, I think. Name's Janet. I think she's even friends with your daughter. Went with Mega Man on some rehabilitation trip once. Y'know, the one where Wily went and made a bunch of 'ice men' to go through the city."
"That's your daughter?" Theo asked. "Yeah, I know her. Her two other friends, Bobby and Ramon."
"Yeah, that's her." Theo chuckled. "Believe it or not, Alan Parson's her friend of all things! The Mayor's own son!"
"Sounds like she's got quite a library of friends, huh?"
"Yeah." Theo admitted. "Granted, those few are the only ones she hangs out with or calls friends. And even before that, she was always sort of the distant type."
The officer inwardly smirked. 'Got him.' "Sounds like someone you'd die for."
Then, to his surprise, it seemed that Theo didn't respond to his statement right away. Rather, it seemed as if he had hesitated somewhat before answering. "That I would."
"Indeed. Like any good father would. And I'd imagine that she'd want you to come home." the officer leaned in closer. "So, why don't we do her a service and get everything out on the table?"
Note: Google Docs is a God-send and catches much more errors that I missed in comparison to Word. Why didn't I do this sooner?
Please read and review, as they are the best encouragement! Thank you!
