Ah yes, the dance. And this time it's only a single chapter. No real arcs, no slog through romance. Simple, clean, and maybe a little romantic. It's all about moving the story along. Disclaimer: I don't own RWBY, the Persona series, Five Nights at Freddy's, or Devil May Cry.
Volume 3-6: Dance Dance Intervention
Ruby looked over the dance. "Looks like everything is working out here," Ozpin said as he came over, "It's amazing what can be accomplished when many people work together." "I detect a twinge of sadness in that tone," Ruby noted. Ozpin nodded. "Unfortunately, the world at large is far less easy to convince of such a simple concept. The Grimm should be a common enemy for everyone to fight, yet despite all appearances the kingdoms rarely work together, instead only focused on their own borders. I've been trying for a while now to correct that, but something always prevents me from getting very far." Ruby looked concerned. "What could possibly get everyone's attention more than the Grimm?" "If I knew the answer to that," Ozpin said, "I wouldn't be so concerned."
Hierophant (Professor Ozpin) Rank 6: He's been trying to get the kingdoms to unite against the Grimm, but is concerned that some unknown force keeps them separate.
Ruby headed over to the punchbowl, where she spotted Penny and Nava. "Hey Ruby," Penny said, "Something funny happened with Ebony and Neptune." "What?," Ruby asked. "Neptune's dancing," Nava said, pointing to where the two were dancing in a rather goofy manner, Ebony smiling in spite of the absurdity. "He knows enough not to step on his dance partner's feet," Nava admitted, "But it kinda ruins the cool image. Still, Ebony's enjoying herself, so I can't complain." "She's had her fair share of bad relationships in the past," Penny explained, "She really needs something like this to relax." "I think we all need something like this," Ruby noted, "After all, we can't be kids forever."
Fortune (Penny Polendina) Rank 5: She shares a little about her teammates, specifically Ebony and her past breakups.
Suddenly something got everyone's attention. As the new song kicked in, Team JNPR got into a choreographed dance routine. "Whoa!," Yang said, "Jaune's got some moves! When did they do this?" "I think I overheard something about them practicing it regularly," Fritz said, "Not for tonight, but just to keep limber and loose. You'd be surprised how much exercise you get from dancing. Guess they heard their usual workout song and decided to go for it." Once the the dance calmed down, Ruby walked over to them. "Guys, that was awesome! Jaune, where did you learn to dance like that!?" Jaune chuckled. "Well, you learn these things when you grow up with seven sisters."
Emperor (Jaune Arc) Rank 4: He and his team start grow closer as the dance hits their favorite number, leading into an epic routine.
Lovers (Pyrrha Nikos) Rank 4: She is able to take her mind off her problems as her friends lead her in an excellent dance number.
Temperance (Lie Ren) Rank 4: His love of dance and his helping his team stay agile pays off as the dance reaches a high point.
Star (Nora Valkyrie) Rank 4: Able to spend the evening with man she loves and excited from the energy of the dance, Nora joins her team in an epic routine.
On the upper level of the ballroom, Emerald spotted Mercury dancing with Velvet. "The dance is reaching a high point. This is a good chance to move in." 'Good,' Cinder replied over a hidden earpiece, 'How long do I have?' "I'd recommend getting back by midnight to be safe," Emerald suggested. She probably should have whispered a little softer, since her voice was picked up by Jeremy. He motioned over to Gabriel, who noticed Emerald talking to herself. Narrowing his eyes, he turned to Weiss. "We may have a problem."
They hurried over to Ruby. "Seems someone decided to skip out on the dance," Gabriel said. "Our enemies might be making their move," Weiss noted, "You're the only one who can slip away without raising eyebrows." Ruby nodded. "Any idea where they're heading?" "Most likely the CCT," Gabriel said, "I'd hurry. They won't be staying there long." Ruby nodded. She hurried outside and spotted a figure in black jumping across the rooftops. "Target spotted," she said into an earpiece. 'We'll cover for you,' Gabriel said, 'Just don't unveil your weapon. Make do with Personas.' Ruby grinned. "Easy enough." She slipped into her thief outfit and hurried off.
Strength (Gabriel Holmes) Rank 4: Together with his siblings he coordinates a system by which any infiltrators can be spotted slipping away from the dance.
Ruby spotted Cinder as she landed near the CCT, knocking out nearby guards. Ruby got out a special grappling cable that Akira had sent her for situations like this, letting her scale the CCT. She checked the rooms near the windows until she spotted Cinder entering the main network room. Cinder got started on the hacking. However, she kept hitting firewall after firewall with only minimal progress made. "Something's wrong. The security isn't what Watts predicted." 'They must have updated the network after the Phantom Thieves' first calling card,' Emerald realized, 'But we've got bigger problems. Ironwood is leaving the party.'
"Actually," came another voice, "Your bigger problem is right behind you." Cinder gasped as she turned around. Ruby was casually sitting in one of the chairs. "Nice outfit. But maybe a little too exposed." Cinder rushed over to attack. Ruby grinned. "Shiki-Ouji!" The sudden strikes, meant to be rather weak already, bounced harmlessly off Ruby. Ruby grinned. "Oni Kagura!" Cinder felt something hard and papery smack her in the chin. She suddenly saw red and charged at Ruby. "Too easy," Ruby said, "Suzaku! Matarunda!" Cinder felt her strength fade as she tried to blast fire at Ruby. To her shock, Ruby only seemed to grow stronger from it.
Ruby wagged her finger and chuckled. "Frei!" A sudden burst of nuclear energy erupted near Cinder, knocking her backward. Just then the bell for the elevator went off, getting the two girls' attention. Ruby smirked and fired off her grappling cable to flee. Cinder quickly leapt out the nearby window and hurried back to the dance, managing to find Emerald before anyone could spot her. "What happened?" "I was only able to get information," Cinder said, "We don't have any control over the system. And one of the Phantom Thieves managed to interrupt me before I could try."
Ironwood double-checked the CCT network as he contacted Ozpin. "Looks like the newly developed firewalls held, but whoever was trying to hack in still managed to obtain vital information about our operations. All except the most important one." 'The Phantom Thieves,' Ozpin noted, 'That was kept strictly off the record. Whoever did this is working off of outdated information, and likely thought hacking the system would be much easier.' Ironwood noticed one of the projects that had been leaked. "And we might be able to use their own information to bait them..." The picture on the screen showed Penny's now outdated schematics.
Of course, if you think these guys are avoiding serious trouble that easily, then I know of a deleted scene from RWBY canon where Pyrrha kills Cinder rather than the other way around. Anyway, it looks like things might be cooling down soon. Hope everyone is safe out there. Read and review.
