Author's Note:

The last time I wrote any ATLA fanfiction was 2015. I had planned a sequel to AWFA, but then I got this crazy idea that maybe I should try to write my own stories about kids with elemental magic powers and a big long journey to take. Now I'm an indie writer, and I spend most of my time writing those stories and also writing romance under a couple of pen names. I will admit that fanfiction isn't something I have a lot of time for anymore. Will the sequel to AWFA ever be written? Unfortunately, the answer is probably no.

But now it's 2020, and boy did everything change when COVID-19 attacked, huh? Luckily, ATLA is now available on Netflix! So we can all rewatch the Gaang and try not to be too upset by the ending and read fanfiction when we're not satisfied. Also, I've decided that as a small treat, I should give those of you following this a little outtake I wrote long ago for AWFA. It's SO hokey, but I thought you guys might enjoy it as a throw-back of sorts.

Serious disclaimer: I also want to attract your attention because I have a much bigger treat available if you enjoy my writing. I am currently recruiting advance copy readers for my original fiction, I'd love for you to be one of those readers, and there's a free copy of my first big epic YA fantasy book waiting for you on my website. It's not fanfiction or zutara-it's set in my own elemental magic world-but there are a few jokes in there only an ATLA fan would get. Check out my fanfiction profile for more info.

Enjoy the little outtake below. I so very much love fanfiction and fanfiction readers, and you should know that if you got THIS far in my fanfiction, you are very special to me!

Dadka, Dadko, Dadaang

Sokka was busy trying to regain consciousness when his son took his first breath of air. The baby announced himself with a warrior's cry. Or at least that's what Sokka told everyone who asked later. Actually, Sokka himself didn't hear the cry. What he heard was Toph yelling at him, and what he felt-but just barely-was the hard knock on the head Zuko gave him with a toy spear. Sokka had been holding it nervously for the last thirteen hours.

Toph peered into Sokka's face to check for signs of life. "Think that got his attention?"

Zuko frowned. "I don't know. Aang, get ready with the bucket of water."

Aang saluted the Fire Lord. "Ah ah, Captain! One bucket of icy water, ready for action!" He lifted the bucket as evidence of his preparedness.

The baby wailed again from somewhere else in the house. Sokka groaned pitifully and did not open his eyes.

Toph kicked him. "Seriously, Sokka, you're gonna be in big trouble if you don't get your stupid butt off the floor. Why are you being such an old lady about this stuff?"

Zuko scowled. "Shut it, Toph, this stays between you, me, Aang and Sokka."

Toph smirked. "You're going to keep this a secret? From Katara?"

Sokka groaned again.

"Yes." Zuko looked hard at Toph, realized she couldn't see him, and decided to give her a light shove on the shoulder instead. "We are all going to keep this a secret. Especially from Katara and Sukki. If anyone asks later, Sokka was a total man about this."

Sokka whimpered. Zuko rolled his eyes. "Pull it together, Sokka," he hissed.

Toph grunted. "Yeah. He was a total man alright."

Aang hopped from foot-to-foot gleefully with the bucket. "Time for the water yet, Zuko?"

Zuko bent closer to Sokka. "No. Wait, I think he's coming to."

Zuko's face was four inches away from Sokka's when the new daddy opened his eyes. Aang hovered behind with a sloshing bucket of water at the ready.

"Gah!" Sokka yelled at the sight of the Fire Lord right in front of his face.

Aang and Toph chortled while Zuko smirked at Sokka.

"Come on, your sister is going to kill me if I don't get you in there." The new baby gave an almighty cry, and Zuko grinned. "Congratulations, by the way. You're a daddy."

"GAH!" Sokka yelled. Zuko jerked back. Aang jolted forward with the bucket. Water sloshed directly into Sokka's face.

"Oops, sorry Sokka." Aang smiled and bent the water away. "I mean, sorry Dad."

Sokka stared up at Aang and Zuko and whimpered again.

Toph stood in the corner with her arms crossed and her foot up against a wall. "Total man," she said under her breath.

"Total secret, Toph," Zuko reminded her. He reached down to Sokka with a hand and pulled up his brother-in-law.

Sokka stood dizzily, holding his head between his hands.

Zuko shook his head. "Look, Sokka, if you want this to stay between the four of us, you should try not to look like you're going to puke when you walk in there."

Sokka scowled. "Just wait 'til it's your turn, jackass," he muttered.

Zuko laughed. "It's just a baby, Sokka. It can't be that bad."

Zuko was busy throwing up when his first child made her first appearance.

"Is His Wimpiness done yet?" Toph asked, cracking the door to the bathroom and poking her face into the room. Zuko looked weakly at her and turned immediately back to the commode. Toph held her nose as she came in.

"Shut it, Toph," Sokka said. He had been kneeling next to Zuko, patiently handing him clean towels for twenty minutes. "He'll be there soon. And don't tell Katara about this."

Toph tapped her foot on the floor. "Make it real soon, or Katara's going to figure out what's going on back here. And I think she also might literally kill him if he doesn't get his ass back in that room pronto. Aang sent word that he's on his way. Not gonna go over well if the Avatar gets to hold the Fire Lord's baby before the Fire Lord himself."

Zuko retched into the basin again while Toph muttered, "gross."

But Sokka handed Zuko another towel.

"Thanks," Zuko croaked.

"Ahh … don't worry about it," Sokka said. "I was passed out cold when Suki had our first."

"I remember," Zuko said.

"You would," Sokka replied.

Zuko wiped vomit from his mouth and grabbed a ladle of water. He swished the water around in his mouth and spit it out. He hadn't been so sick since that fever he'd had in Ba Sing Se back after he'd given up the Blue Spirit's mask.

"It's going to be okay, you know," Sokka said.

"No, I don't know that," Zuko said.

"I do." Sokka crouched down to Zuko's level. "You're going to be a great father."

"I'm going to be a terrible father. My father was a terrible father. His father was a terrible father. I'm going to be a terrible … Ouch! What was that for?"

Sokka snapped the towel at Zuko a second time for good measure. "Do you think I'd have let you marry my sister if I thought you'd be a terrible father? Come on. You manage to rule an entire nation just fine. You don't think you can handle one little girl?

"It's a girl?" Zuko asked, his eyes lighting up hopefully.

Sokka smacked his palm against his forehead. "I wasn't supposed to tell you that. Act surprised, okay?"

"I have a daughter?" Zuko asked in awe. "Do you think Katara will let me hold her?"

Sokka grinned. "Only if you stop throwing up long enough to get back in there."

Aang was on a spirit quest when his first children were born. Twin airbenders.

"Any ideas on how to find him this time?" Sokka asked Zuko as the two men watched Katara swaddle the babies up. One boy and one girl, and no Avatar anywhere in sight.

"Not a clue," Zuko said. He watched Aang's girlfriend nuzzle the downy hair on each of the babies. Air nomads apparently didn't get married, but Zuko hoped Aang wasn't on that spirit quest with any of his other girlfriends. The new mom looked calm now, but an hour ago she'd been screaming so loud that everyone a mile away knew exactly how dead the Avatar was going to be when he got back.

Sokka shot Zuko a look. "Think wisdom from a giant lion-turtle can save him now?"

Zuko shot Sokka back the same look. "No way in hell."
