*Epilogue: Parenthood*
8 years later...
Robyn is brushing her long hair in front of her vanity. She had a content smile on her face as she is listening to the violin Basil is playing out in the living room. She is wearing a beautiful diamond ring. After solving a case of a missing emerald ring, Basil and Robyn had tied the knot. They got married in spring and have two children. A boy named Benjamin and a girl named Janet. Robyn got up and walk out of the bedroom to see her family sitting by the fireplace with Dawson sitting on the green chair. The children sat on the floor, watching and listening their father playing the soothing tune of the violin. Basil stopped playing and turn to his wife.
"Darling, so glad you could join us." He said.
"I'm sorry, Basil. I was just resting and then I brush my hair." Robyn said, giving her husband a kiss on a cheek.
"Mother! Will you sing us that lullaby?" Janet asked, cupping her hands together. She has short brown hair with a blue bow behind her head. She has green eyes, wearing a blue dress, and brown shoes.
"Please, mother." Benjamin pleaded. The boy has brown eyes, and has a resemblance of his father. He is wearing a white button shirt with a brown vest over it, and brown shorts with shoes. Robyn giggled and couldn't say no to her children. Dawson chuckled heartily.
"They just couldn't get enough of it." He said.
"She is our nightingale, doctor." Basil said. "It was a peaceful song after all." He allows Robyn to sit on his red chair and got a violin. He began to play. The children sat quietly and watch their mother. Robyn started to sing with her lovely voice.
"Why does the whispering wind
Sound like a lullaby?
Is that the magic music from,
Beyond the laughing sky?
Why can't the swallows remain?
Where is the place they fly?
Why can't I go along with them,
Beyond the laughing sky?"
Benjamin and Janet listened to their mother's voice with smiles. Dawson sat quietly in a chair as he listens. Whenever there is no case, the free time is to listen to Basil's violin and hear Robyn sing. The only audience she has is her family and partner. Deep down, Robyn has missed singing for the public, yet she didn't want to go back to think about when she sang for Ratigan who discovered her. That rat is long gone. Not even the children knew about their parents' story of that case. It is best if they don't know about Ratigan.
Robyn was finishing the song, touching her chest, feeling her heart.
"If I climbed the highest tree,
Where, oh where would I be?
Would I find a place for me,
In the land of grand enchantment?
Where do the clouds disappear,
When they go rolling by?
I'm wondering about the world,
Beyond the laughing sky?"
Basil finished playing the violin as the song ended. Dawson and the children clapped for them. Janet went up to her father and hugged his waist. Basil laughed and picked her up. Benjamin climbed onto Robyn's lap and hug her.
"That was lovely, mother." He said. Robyn gave her son a kiss on the head. "But, how come you never wanted to be a diva? I remember Gustave told me about you sing at the Royal Opera House before."
"I did. But, that was a long time ago." Robyn said.
"How did you and father meet?" Janet asked. Basil and Dawson looked at each other and Robyn who looks hesitate. But, the female mouse smiled at her children.
"When we were children." Robyn began. "We were best friends, and then we meet years later to solve a case together." Basil looked at her.
"Robyn, are you sure?" He asked. "You want to tell them about our case?"
"Darling, it's alright." Robyn told him. The children are eager to listen to the story. "We can tell them together." The detective smiled at her. And so, they are telling a story about the Flaversham case. Basil is a great storyteller since he remembers all the details and secrets. Benjamin and Janet are in awe when the name Ratigan was brought up. Robyn hoped that the crimes he has done wouldn't scare them, but thankfully it didn't. Benjamin enjoyed the action while Janet enjoyed the romance between Basil and Robyn.
After the story was over, the children were told to go to bed. Before they go to their bedroom, they turn to Dawson.
"Uncle, we're so glad you are with us." Benjamin said, hugging the doctor.
"I will always be here, my boy." He said.
"Good night, uncle." Janet said, hugging him as well. Robyn told them that she will be in their room shortly. As the children disappeared in the room, Robyn brought her hands together. Basil wrapped his arm around her.
"Are you alright, darling?" Basil asked. "No episodes?"
"No." Robyn said. "I'm fine." Before Basil and Robyn got married, Robyn had been having PTSD for some time. She has been having nightmares about Ratigan, and Dawson had been helping her get over the nightmares and face her fears. It took a lot of time, but Robyn is better. The evil professor is gone. Robyn is at peace with her detective and the doctor. Her family matters. "And Basil, I have something to tell you." Robyn said.
"What is it, Robyn?" Basil asked. Robyn brought her hands over her stomach, smiling up at Basil. The detective is confused, but made a light gasp. Dawson smiled at him. He knew about it before. "Robyn, you're...having another child?" Basil asked.
"Yes." Robyn said with a nod. Basil smiled and embrace his wife.
"Another child on the way." Dawson said. "Benjamin and Janet will be very thrilled." Basil and Robyn kissed. They will be having another child. The couple are going to their children's bedroom to tell them the good news before they go to sleep.
