Chapter 23
McCarty House
Forks, Washington
June 2034 – 7:00 p.m.
It had been a tense dinner, to say the least. Earlier in the day, both couples had faced off against their respective children and were still smarting from the aftereffects. Carlisle and Esme for not knowing where Jasper went; Rosalie and Emmett for giving into their daughter—again—and not knowing what she was up to that evening.
After dinner, they moved to the kitchen table where they laid out the paperwork each of them had received by fax earlier that day; thankful the offices were willing to do so on the weekend.
They started with the Cullens. Carlisle pulled the file folder out of his bag and removed the document. He laid it on the kitchen table in the middle, so they all could see. The young man pictured looked like a short-haired version of his son.
Rosalie gasped, hand going to her chest.
"What is it?" Esme asked.
"I saw him, in a dream, while I was pregnant... I-I saw him."
They all looked at the sheet for more details.
Name: Edward Masen
Age: 18
"Eighteen?" Esme gasped. "But that's so young!"
"Not really, Es. The preferred age for male donors is eighteen to thirty-nine," Carlisle informed her.
They went back to viewing the paperwork.
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 220 pounds
Allergies: None
Hobbies and Habits: specimen left this blank
Likes and Dislikes: specimen left this blank
Glancing down the page, they noticed that everything else was blank. Only the medical sections were filled out, until they got to the wishes and wants section, which read:
Wishes and Wants: To be with the love of my life forever and ever.
"Well, that's an interesting wish and want." Emmett snorted. "Like anyone knows who the love of their life is at eighteen."
Carlisle agreed, but the women thought it was a little romantic.
"Let's look at the egg donor now." Emmett prodded when the women had started on a tangent about how it was hard to find romance nowadays.
The photo of the young lady was shocking. If there was any doubt the woman's egg produced Alice McCarty, it vanished when they saw her photo. With the exception of her hair length—the young woman's was long; Alice kept hers short—they were identical. Right down to the wicked smirk on her face, and in her eyes.
Name: Isabella Swan
Age: 18
"Jesus, she was eighteen, too?" Emmett questioned.
"Swan," Rosalie repeated the surname. "Don't we live in the Swan house?"
Carlisle whistled. "That would be some coincidence, wouldn't it?
"It sure would."
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 120 pounds
Allergies: None
Hobbies and Habits: specimen left this blank
Likes and Dislikes: specimen left this blank
Much like the male's document, none of the non-medical sections were completed, save for the wishes and wants, which read:
Wishes and Wants: To be with Edward until my dying day and all our forevers.
Esme gasped. "She says Edward. It can't be, can it?"
All the other adults were shocked into silence for a few seconds until they all started up at once.
"Jasper's first word was Bells—remember that, Es?"
"Alice used to have an imaginary friend named Ed," Emmett added.
"What do we do, confront them?" Rosalie wanted to know.
That brought them all up. What were they going to do?
"I think, for now, we shouldn't say anything," Carlisle suggested. "We have full names, so why don't we try to find out a little more information about them before making a decision. The internet is a wonderful resource. I think, for tonight, we should put these things where the kids can't find them and sleep on it. We can do some research over the next few days and meet up again."
They all agreed it was a good idea, and the Cullens set off for home.
