Remus Lupin drank the potion cautiously. It tasted of blood and urine. It tasted of rot and death. Remus coughed and spluttered, trying to get his breath back and not kill all his taste buds. "James?" he said. "are you sure its supposed to taste that bad?"
James nodded. "yes. Its polyjuice potion, it tastes like whoever you turn into." Remus sighed. Who knew Snape would taste so gross. "Bottoms up" Sirius said, drinking his own glass. James smiled. "excellent. I hope we made the potion right, messed up attempts can be fatal. Once, one of my Dad's apprentices accidentally used cat hair. It took them three weeks to return to normal. The polyjuice is for human use only."
Remus suddenly felt rather sick. He wasn't sure if his sudden onset of nausea was down to the potion or to what James had just said. "Human use only?" he asked. What if he wasn't human enough.
What if it all went horribly wrong. Remus began to feel a panic attack coming. He tried to visualize the words of his book.
What humans fail to understand is that we too have the same genetic make up as humans. While creatures such as giants have different make up, werewolves and humans are the same, changing only on the night of the full moon.
We think like humans. We act like humans. We feel like humans. We bleed like humans. In essence, we are human. And yet, time and again, we are not only denied human status, but we are denied even being status. For some reason, they believe we are not. Do they believe we are not because of what we turn into every month?
Perhaps it is more routed in prejudice than any real science then. They do not want us to be human, so they claim we aren't.
Remus watched as his skin began to bubble. That was a normal effect. He was, currently, turning like a real human would. Peter and James swallowed down their potion. James turned into Avery, Peter into Macnair, and Sirius into Lucius Malfoy.
"right!" James said excitedly. "lets go sneak into the slytherin common room."
