The weeks go by, winter drawing closer everyday. Ponyville has been experiencing lots of dinosaurs coming through on their migration south. The dinosaurs that reside near Ponyville have even begun to migrate as well.
Dinosaurs from all over are getting in mass herds to travel together, side by side. Of course, these mass herds are made mainly of herbivores, while the predators follow behind, waiting for the weak to fall.
However, few stay behind, like the armored dinosaurs, which their armored bodies aren't meant to travel long distances. Most predators do as well, as they are experts at waiting.
For example, Allosaurus can wait long periods with out food. They stay behind and wait for the sauropods to return, but some brave souls follow the herbivores, picking on the younger or weaker members of the herd.
Soon, as the weeks pass, few dinosaurs remain, and things aren't as busy as they normally are. However, new dinosaurs are appearing, ones that are only seen up north, so not all is quiet.
The Mane 7's dinosaurs are staying. Since they are predators, they do not have a migratory instinct and they have their companions to care for; however, one does have this instinct. Rampage has that instinct.
Usually, she'd follow the sauropods, waiting for moments to strike down weaker or younger members of a herd. Rampage rests under her tree, watching the dinosaur herds pass.
She doesn't want to leave Rainbow, but that instinct is beginning to kick back in.
It is now a few days before winter and the first snow. Rainbow was just sleeping on a cloud when a roar caught her attention. She looked to see Rampage standing below her.
"Hold on, girl" Rainbow said before she flew down to her.
"What is it?" Rainbow asked. Rampage tried to gesture what she had to do, but Rainbow just cocked her head.
"You really need to know how to talk" Rainbow said. Rampage just glared at her.
"Come on. Let's go to Fluttershy's so she can translate" Rainbow groaned and they headed for Fluttershy's cottage.
Soon, Rainbow and Rampage arrived.
Aside from this, Fluttershy and Velcie have introduced Velcie's pack to the other dinosaurs, and the introduction went swell, aside from Fluttershy and Velcie's worries.
Velcie and her family were resting under Velcie's tree, which was now almost completely ridden of leaves. Rainbow knocked on the cottage's door, and soon, Fluttershy opened the door.
"Oh, Hi Rainbow. How may I help you" Fluttershy asked.
"Can you interpret what Rampage is saying" Rainbow said.
"Of course" Fluttershy replied. Fluttershy listened as she began.
"Hi Fluttershy" Rampage said.
"Hello, Rampage. What do you need?" Fluttershy said.
"I need you to tell Rainbow Dash of what I'm about to tell you" Rampage said.
"Go on" Fluttershy said.
"So", Rampage began, "Since winter is coming, I can't stay here. I need to go down South with the other dinosaurs. I hate to leave, but it is in my instinct." Fluttershy nodded and turned to Rainbow, worry on her face.
"What-What she say?" Rainbow asked and Fluttershy sighed.
"She has to go South for the winter" Fluttershy said, "It's in her instinct." Rainbow was surprised by this. This was going to be like with Tank all over again. Rainbow flew up, becoming face to face with Rampage.
"Do you have to go?" Rainbow asked and Rampage replied with a nod.
"You know, you don't have to go" Rainbow said, "There should be enough food here. There's got to be. What about the Dinosaur Chow."
"It takes a while to make, and I'm the only one making it. If I had more ponies helping me, it'd be a different story"
"We can help you. I mean, why didn't you ask us to help?" Rainbow said. Flutteshy grew a little sheepish at that fact.
"I didn't want to keep you guys away from your lives just to make Dinosaur Chow" Fluttershy said, "Also, since resources are becoming thin with winter coming."
Rainbow wasn't going to go through this whole conundrum again, but she knew better than to keep her here.
"Then...if you have to...go" Rainbow said. Tears begin to fill her eyes, which Rampage noticed. She let out a purr-like roar, nudging against her.
"Rainbow" Fluttershy said, which Rainbow turned to her, "This is hard for Rampage, too."
Rainbow turned back to Rampage, staring at her for a moment before giving her a big hug on the snout. Rampage embraced the hug as a tear fell from one of her eyes.
"Well, the most we can do is give her a big farewell" Rainbow said. Fluttershy liked that fact, and with that said, they started right away.
A FEW DAYS LATER
The dinosaurs and Mane 7 were all grouped up, a banner above their heads saying, "Farewell, Rampage". Rainbow was at the front, Twilight by her side, who was there to comfort her.
Soon, Rampage came from yonder. Rampage saw them waiting for her, and she couldn't help but smile.
"What are you guys doing here?" she asked.
"We here to send you off" Delphi said.
"Good luck, and come back, safe" Spiney said. All the dinosaurs and ponies said their goodbyes. The last one was Rainbow. Rampage got down to her level. The two stared at each other before Rainbow hugged her by the snout.
"Come back safe, okay" Rainbow said and Rampage responded with a roar. Then, with that said, Rampage began her trek South. Just a few meters, and Rampage stopped to look back at her friends.
They all waved at her before she smiled and continued on her way. Rainbow just stood there, watching her dinosaur until she disappeared from the horizon.
"Hey, you okay" Twilight asked.
"Yeah-yeah. I'll be fine" Rainbow said.
"Oh, don't worry, Rainbow Dash. She'll be back" Pinkie said. The others agreed to that fact. Rainbow just tried to keep happy thoughts, hoping Rampage will return when Spring returns.
Suddenly, Rainbow felt something cold and wet on her nose. She and the others looked as it started snowing. Pinkie grew excited as she began hopping up and down. The dinosaurs were fascinated by the snow as they have never seen it before.
"The first snow" Applejack said.
"So, that's what this is called" Delphi said.
"Well, they told us it would be coming soon" Velcie said. Bruce stuck out his tongue as a snowflake landed on his tongue.
"It taste like...water, but it's a little cold" Bruce said.
"Well, we better get home, because I have a feeling it's going to get worse" Rarity said. The others agreed with that fact and they all headed home. Rainbow stopped and looked back towards the South before she flies off.
DAYS LATER
The weeks pass on and snow continues to fall. As it covers the ground, winter conquers the land. Temperatures drop as dinosaurs look for any source of warmth. Luckily for our dinosaurs, they live in the warmth of their companions homes.
In Twilight's castle, Twilight sits by the fire in the living room of her castle, Spiney by her side. Spike and Starlight sit by her with Alan and Daisy by their sides as well. They all sit, enjoying the warmth of the fire.
"I wonder how Rainbow's doing" Spike wondered.
"I'm sure she's fine. She got over Tank hibernating. She has to get over this, too" Starlight said.
Meanwhile, Rainbow sits by herself on her bed, wrapped up in her blanket. She thinks about Rampage everyday, wondering what she's doing and where she's at.
"I miss you, girl" Rainbow said to herself, "I hope your doing well."
Meanwhile, many miles to the south, Rampage continues on her trek. She is now in a forest. She's only a few miles from the Badlands. She soon comes to a clearing, which happens to be a dried up flood plain.
It is just outside the Badlands, but it beholds quite a sight. As far as she could see, there were sauropods of every species for miles around.
There were even some she recognized, like a few Andesaurus, groups of Argentinosaurus and Saltosaurus, and some Dreadnoughtus.
She saw a familiar group as well, the Diplodocus herd from the salt plain were here as well. This must of been the nesting sight they were heading to.
But, the crazy thing is, she didn't think every sauropod of every species would be here. But, this would present a good hunting ground, as it looked like her journey was complete. But, she noticed another familiar sight.
Nearby lived some Giganotosaurus, but also some Mapusaurus and Carcharodontosaurus, all giant predators. It made sense as these were all hunters of sauropods.
Hopefully, she would get accepted into the pack until she headed back up North, but for now, she was tired from her long journey, so she found a perfect resting spot under some trees. She laid down and soon closed her eyes before going to sleep.
Next Time: Trouble ensues for Velcie and Rampage.
