AN: Firstly, I want to thank everyone who submit ideas for the hero name, now that we've gotten to where it has been finalized! Secondly, we have a couple reviews for me to respond to, so here's my responses!
jikker jack: As for how Izuku is aging, think of it as very similar to a human. As you grow you can add more material to your body, but if you lose a finger or limb, then it won't regrow, even if you're still growing. He doesn't regenerate his original crystal, yes, but since his cells require to be surrounded by a crystal, stone, or metal to survive, when his biological body grows as he ages, more crystal naturally forms around the cells to compensate. Its kind of like when Izuku originally got his quirk and his cells all became encased in crystal, just more gradual, if that makes sense.
tiguylerobot: Honestly the reason she didn't see that sort of metaphor in it is because I hadn't really thought of it either... One thing to remember is that his cognitive cells, the ones that could be considered to be where his soul is housed, are all part of his head, hence why he can essentially take any damage short of decapitation or his head shattering and stay conscious. The cells he put into the blade were from his jade arm, and plus he referred to the blade as a sentient entity separate from him, so the idea that it's his soul, or even part of it, housed in the blade seems unlikely.
Now on with the chapter, and after the chapter, by request, I will be adding a list of the different powers Izuku has shown so far, along with basic visual descriptions and the like. I'm only doing this for this chapter, since I don't want to artificially bloat my word count, but I might give little updates in later chapters as he uses different powers!
After a long weekend to recover from the physical exhaustion of fighting for most of the day, 1-A's students finally returned to the school for classes once more. Aizawa entered the room with a stack of folders, some thin, others with dozens of sheets contained within.
"Before we start today's classes, I'd like to announce that starting next week, all of you will be doing a weeklong internship with a hero agency. Which agencies you're able to choose from is based upon whether or not you were requested by those agencies due to your performance during the Sports Festival."
"Some of you got requested, some of you didn't, and if that is the case, you will be given a list of agencies that are partnered with the school to intern with instead. Normally we have a pretty even spread of offers, but this year the results were a bit more... skewed." Aizawa brought up a monitor to display each student's internship offers, and the results certainly did seem biased.
Some of the students had indeed gotten zero offers, and a few had maybe a dozen to choose from, while at the top end, Izuku, Todoroki, and Bakugou each had over a thousand offers, over three thousand in Izuku's case. He looked down a bit and saw that Momo had gotten a respectable number as well, at just over 800.
A few of the other students complained about their lack of offers, to which Aizawa simply smiled.
"If you want more offers, just try to do better next year." Clearing his throat, Aizawa continued, "Now of course there's one important decision you have to make before you can go on these internships, one that could very well affect you for the rest of your career as a hero."
Having gotten their rapt attention, Aizawa finished his thought, "Today you will be deciding on your hero names," to which the class started cheering, excited to finally be doing something that sounded truly like part of being a hero during class.
"These will only be temporary hero names that you can change later, but they often stick anyways so I'd be careful with your choice, as it may be what sticks with you for the rest of your life. Personally I'm not very creative when it comes to naming, so joining us today will be Midnight, who will be vetting your ideas." At this, Midnight pranced through the door, taking charge as Aizawa decided to take a nap in the corner of the class.
Midnight passed out small whiteboards and markers to each of the students, telling them to write down their ideas and then display them in front of the class, and she'd have the final say on whether they could use them.
The first to go to the front was Aoyama, who, after a bit of reworking with Midnight, decided on the 'Shining Hero: Can't Stop Twinkling'. It was an odd name, but it fit Aoyama and his... eccentricities. More students came up after, some of their names being quite cute, like Tsuyu's 'Froppy' and Uraraka's 'Uravity', while some were more basic, like Mashirao going with simply 'Tailman'.
The ones Izuku took most note of were Todoroki, who chose to be 'The Temperature Hero: Thermal', Bakugou, who, after a few rejected ideas on behalf of Midnight, settled on 'The Explosion Hero: Ground Zero', and Iida's, who proudly displayed his hero name as The Turbo Hero: Ingenium'.
Momo's name impressed him as well, having chosen to be called 'The Creation Hero: Genesis'. Finally, he decided it was his turn to show his name. Izuku walked up to the front podium and displayed the name he had chosen.
'The Million Carat Hero: Shard'.
After class, Izuku inspected his folder to see who had sent him offers, running through the list before stopping at a certain name. The name of the current number three hero, Hawks.
And now it's time for the power list!
General crystal abilities: Translucent crystal, green in the eyes and hair, easily shattered, easily reformed, light telekinesis to reform broken crystals, and the ability to generally sense where the other crystal pieces are by tugging on them with this telekinesis.
Right arm: Jade, dark green with lighter tones swirling around the arm, culminating into a spiral in the palm. Ability: Kinetic Absorption and Redirection. The arm can absorb impacts into itself, storing them as vibrations, before releasing them through the palm into whatever it comes into contact with. The amount of power expelled is generally greater than the amount taken in.
Legs: Silver muscles made of SU-65, an engineered crystal capable of contracting up to 22% of its size, around a light blue bone structure of Damascus steel, with the soles of the feet also made entirely of the material. Ability: Super speed, along with enhanced agility and kicking power.
Chest: Cloudy black non-gem grade diamond, also known as bort, in a large generally circular cone inwards within his chest. Ability: Black Diamond Form. Allows Izuku to, at the expense of stamina, allow the crystal to become the only material he is made of, for an amount of time until he runs out of stamina for the ability. Allows for drastically increased defensive capabilities against physical attacks, nearly indestructible against being shattered or cut. Weaknesses: disallows use of any other powers while active, making him slower and less versatile, and incredibly weak to fire, since bort burns at a relatively low temperature.
Head: Hollowed out section of the head, hard to see from the outside, since it absorbs light and continuously reflects it within itself until needed. Ability: Allows for diffusing of light within his body, to allow for continuous work while under nightfall, since his body requires light for energy, and can also be used as fuel for the eyes, as mentioned next.
Eyes: Facets have been added to his eyes, causing their general appearance to have more sparkles than prior. Ability: enhanced vision, with the capability to zoom in vision, as well as the ability to focus the light from within into lasers through the eyes facets.
Throat: Quartz has been added to the inside of the throat, reaching up to the bottom of Izuku's mouth. Ability: Improved voice quality, along with the ability to amplify his voice and push it to sub or supersonic tones, along with the ability to use piezoelectricity to generate, over time, the ability to breathe lightning.
Wings: A crystal core made from the crystal removed from Izuku's head after the USJ incident, with a swirl of jade in the center, along with crystal wings on either side, also created from the original crystal his left arm and both legs were formed from, repurposed into this form. Ability: Flight, along with the ability to detach the crystal "feathers", which are thin, hexagonal in shape, and beveled at the edges, and telekinetically move them around. When detached, the crystals become much more difficult to see, leaving only a slight distortion in the air, along with some sparkling as the light hits the crystals at different angles. Note that flight is slowed down the more crystals are detached, and once a certain number of them are detached, flight becomes impossible.
Tail: Interlocking crystals, similar to the crystal feathers but in a rhombus shape, form a tail leading down from the core of the wings. The crystals are all the same size, being relatively small, except the crystal at the tip of the tail, which is about three times larger. Ability: ?????
Left Hand:
Thumb: Magnesium underneath protective plating of tungsten, running up to before the elbow. Ability: Can be ignited, allowing for incredibly high temperature flames, and weak pyrokinesis that affects his own flames only for the duration that the flames burn. Can it be bent once it is ignited, as the cells that allow for that die on contact with the heat, and cooling measures must be taken to keep this effect from spreading to the rest of the body.
Index finger: Cinnabar, a crimson crystal, runs underneath a protective, highly anti-corrosive metal, extending up to the shoulder. Ability: the crystal, when not under its protective shielding, can produce a caustic form of mercury, which can be lightly telekinetically controlled, and will cause acid burns upon contact with skin. The finger itself also contains highly corrosive properties, and can burn through most materials on contact. These affect Izuku's crystals particularly heavily, so care must be used to ensure damage does not occur, as crystals affected by the mercury become inhospitable for his cells.
Middle finger: A basic lighter for his magnesium. It does not contain a special ability on its own, and is simply capable of igniting the metal upon snapping his fingers.
Ring finger: Underneath a watertight protective layer that is protected against leeching into liquids, is liquid crystal of antarcticite. Izuku can pull the energy from the crystal, allowing it to form into a solid, clear crystal that can then be used. Ability: Can super chill anything that comes within approximately one foot of it, allowing it to be used both to freeze objects to incredibly low temperatures, much lower than the normal temperature of antarcticite, as well as being used to keep the heat from his magnesium from affecting the rest of his cells.
Pinky finger: Underneath a protective plating that helps cancel magnetic fields is a solid chunk of neodymium. Ability: greater ferrokinesis, allowing for large metal objects to be manipulated with ease.
Palm: Underneath a blast-proof panel with seven holes in a hexagonal shape with the extra centered, is a mass of CL-20, a crystal explosive. Izuku can detonate small chunks of it through the openings in his palm, projecting explosions outwards through them.
I'm sorry the chapter was so short compared to the list, but it did take me a long time to write it all out, and I felt getting into the actual internships should wait until next chapter.
