Quinn lay on the sun lounger with her eyes closed enjoying the feeling of the sun beating down on her. The resort they were in was beautiful with the most stunning views. A true little piece of paradise. She opened one eye as she felt water dripping onto her.
"Are you going to just lay there all day?" Jay asked soaking wet from the pool.
"That is exactly my plan Mr. Halstead" She replied with a smile as she closed her eyes "You're blocking the sun though"
"Yeah I don't think so" He told her.
She squealed as he picked her up from the lounger and carried her closer towards the pool.
"I swear to God I will make you regret it" She warned him.
He smirked as he threw her into the pool, but she dragged him down with her. She spluttered at the initial coolness of the water and clung onto Jay wrapping her arms around his neck.
"You are such a child sometimes" She laughed splashing him in the face.
"But that's why you love me" He told her leaning in to kiss her.
She kissed him back and waited until his guard was down before dunking his head under and swimming away from him.
They spent the afternoon in and around the pool. It was their last night away and it felt like it had all come to an end too soon.
She picked out a simple white lace sun dress and a pair of sandals. She left her long blonde hair down with curls falling just below her shoulders. Jay walked out onto the balcony and wrapped his arms around her from behind resting his head on her shoulder. The sun was setting, and it was a picture-perfect moment.
"I don't want to leave" She told him "Can we just move here?"
"If only" He sighed wistfully "a week uninterrupted in paradise isn't enough, but I'm looking forward to getting back to real life with you"
"I'm just putting it out there I want to retire somewhere like this" She said with a smile "I'm not into your whole ice fishing dream"
"Have you tried it?" He asked with a smirk.
She just rolled her eyes and turned around to face him.
"You look beautiful" He told her tucking her hair behind her ear and leaving his hand on her cheek.
She pulled him down into a kiss and he pulled her against him with his other hand on her waist.
"I think we should order room service tonight" She said between kisses looking up at him.
"Good plan" He agreed leading her back into the bedroom.
They had done a bit of sightseeing while they were away but spending the evening in bed together with the ocean breeze coming through and the crash of the waves was absolutely her favorite memory of their trip away together. He lazily ran his fingers up and down her side as she snuggled up to him. Room service lay forgotten on the balcony as they eventually fell asleep.
Quinn's first day back at work came all too soon. The contrast between relaxing poolside or on a beach with his husband to a busy day in pediatrics while it was raining outside was a lot. She loved her job, but it had been a nice bubble to be in for a while.
But the fact that she had gotten to scrub in on a surgery made her feel a lot better about it.
"You certainly came back with a smile on your face" Maggie told her as they got a coffee together.
"It was just amazing" She replied unable to keep the smile from her face.
"A smile like that, did you two leave your hotel room?" Maggie laughed.
Quinn blushed and bit her lip.
"We saw a bit of the island" She replied taking a sip of her coffee.
"Not something I need to hear about" Will said turning back from the table.
"Don't be stupid, sit down" She said rolling her eyes.
Will had moved into a new apartment while they were away. It was strange not seeing him when they got home but it would probably work out better for them in the long run.
"You hear this?" He asked Maggie taking a seat "She's back one day and the insults start"
"That's family" She shrugged with a grin.
Quinn got a page before Will could come up with another smart response. She left him her brownie as a peace offering. The rest of her day was too busy to think about anything else. There had been an accident involving a school bus to the ED was overrun and it was all hands-on deck.
Jay was working late on a case, so he wasn't home when she got back. Gabby had come over with Chinese food and a bottle of wine.
"You look exhausted" Gabby told her as they switched on The Real Housewives of New York.
"This afternoon was totally crazy" She sighed taking a sip of wine "It was almost enough to wipe out the whole week of peace"
"But not completely?" Gabby asked.
"Absolutely not" She replied with a smile "So tell me what I missed here"
"Well" Gabby said picking up her plate "Half of 51 has been reassigned to other houses, it's like being in some weird alternate universe, it's just me, Matt and Severide left. I'm trying to set Brett up, and your friend Kitty has been around a lot, so Kelly is scaring me with how happy he is"
"I'm guessing you're already working on the issue at the house" She said "But wow Kelly and Kitty, I'm going to have to find out more. Matchmaking sounds fun though"
"I just need to find the right kind of guy" Gabby sighed.
"Well if I think of someone, I'll let you know" She said.
"Think of someone for what?" Jay asked as he walked in the door "Hey Gabby"
"Hey Jay" Gabby said, "How was your first day back on the job?"
"Good" He said kissing Quinn as he sat down on the couch next to her "Until I realized how annoying Ruzek can be and then I wanted to be back on an island far far away"
"Aww Babe" She teased giving a mock sad look "We're thinking of someone to set Sylvie up with"
"Why?" He asked turning to Gabby "Your brother clearly still likes her, and do we really have to watch this?"
"Put the game on" She told him handing the remote.
"Antonio is a moron sometimes" Gabby sighed.
"That's most men" She shrugged ignoring the look she got from Jay.
After the game highlights Gabby made her way home. Jay lay back on the couch with his head in her lap. It seemed like they both needed a relaxing night after their first days back in the real world but their house was just like being back in their own bubble.
