The Dream Team
"Where the hell can I find a doctor willing to take part, though?" Punk questioned, sitting in the diner late one night with Dean.
"Do we know any doctors?" Dean asked him.
"I don't. Do you?" Punk asked him as Dean shook his head.
"How are you gonna get the girls tested, though?" Dean questioned.
"I'm gonna take a group of them out each night." Punk said.
"Oh, yeah. Cause the last time you took a mental patient from the hospital, it went so well." Dean scoffed.
"It's a little different." Punk rolled his eyes, "It needs to be within the twenty-four hours, otherwise the pills won't be out of their systems. There's twenty of them so… over five days I'll take a group of four each night."
"Where the hell are you gonna find a doctor you'll be able to explain all of this too without them kicking off?" Dean asked, "It's impossible."
"I know a doctor." Renee appeared with a coffee pot as they both turned to her.
"Huh?" Dean screwed his face up.
"Sorry, I… I listen to you guys talk all the time." She shrugged, having no shame in admitting it.
Punk looked across at Dean nervously, looking back to Renee suspiciously, "You know a doctor?" Punk asked timidly as she nodded.
"Yeah." Renee nodded, "Me." She smiled as Punk looked at her with a raised brow.
"You're a doctor?" Dean questioned as she nodded, "But you're… you're a waitress." He pointed out, "And you're here every day."
"I just completed my residency." Renee said, "Fully qualified." She nodded as Punk looked across at Dean.
"We're not gonna involve you with any of this business, Renee." Dean shook his head.
"So you're fully qualified?" Punk asked curiously as Renee nodded.
"Yeah. I'm waiting on a call back from the hospital about a full-time employment position." She nodded, "Hopefully I'll be fully employed by the end of the month."
"This is perfect." Punk looked at Dean who folded his arms unhappily.
"It'd actually be better to take blood within twelve hours of the girls taking the pills." Renee nodded to Punk, sitting the coffee pot down and pulling a chair over as Dean looked on in disbelief.
"You're really a doctor?" Dean shook his head.
"Yeah." Renee laughed a little.
"A nosey doctor." Dean raised his eyebrows as she shrugged.
"Hey, I don't care. I'm glad you were listening in." Punk said, scattering through some papers, "Getting you to take their blood within twelve hours means I gotta move during the day with them. They get their pills first thing in the morning."
"Well I guess you're just gonna have to figure that out then." Dean nodded as Punk scratched his head and nodded.
"Y-Yeah… yeah, I'll figure it out." Punk waved his hand.
"You'll also wanna get a paper copy of what meds they're all on." Renee nodded to him as Punk and Dean looked at her, "I took a medical law module at university." She shrugged as Punk groaned blissfully.
"I could kiss you." Punk shook his head, scribbling down some notes as Dean raised a brow.
"And if you could somehow get this psychiatrists binding documents for all of the girls. That way you could make cross reference to what his diagnosis is and how his prescription indicates the wrong medication and most likely wrong dosage." Renee said as Punk took note of everything she was saying.
"I can try and get all of that from Lily." Punk nodded hopefully, "You don't happen to have any smart psychiatrist friends willing to participate in perhaps one of the biggest lawsuits any Chicago court has seen?" He smiled as Renee laughed a little, "Not yet, of course. But soon."
"I'll see what I can do." Renee smiled.
"When you free to take some blood samples? And you got access to put them through a lab?" Punk asked.
"Yeah, I got access." Renee nodded, "I'm free at the weekend."
"God, it's so sore!" AJ cried out, "I think it's broken!" She screamed, lying on the floor in the bathrooms as Punk looked over to the right of the sitting room, laughing to himself as he saw AJ lying on the floor cursing out the nurses who were all rushing to her.
"What did you do?" Wendy scoffed, crouching down as AJ grabbed her by the neck.
"You gotta help me, Wendy." AJ cried, "I slipped on the soap. I think it's broken." AJ exaggerated, getting as many nurses around her as possible as Punk stood out in the main area of the ward, looking at the now empty nurses station.
He then turned to Tracy who was swaying back and forth in the sitting room, watching as he nodded to her as she quickly ran over to him, followed by Jessie, Sady and Pauline.
"Ok, quickly." Punk nodded, running behind them as they ran off towards the swing doors at the end of the ward.
"Come on." Jessie squealed, jumping on Tracy's back as they ran out of the swing doors.
It was particularly hard doing this in the middle of the day, but Punk vowed to get this done. AJ was holding the fort in the hospital whilst he drove the girls to get their blood taken.
"Nice car." Sady raised her eyebrows, running out to Punk's car as he unlocked it.
"Ok, everybody get in." He nodded as they quickly got into the car, "Seatbelts." He said.
"Safety first, girls." Tracy nodded mockingly in the passenger's seat as Punk rolled his eyes.
"I'm in." Pauline nodded after clipping in her belt in.
"That's what he said." Tracy chuckled to herself as Punk started the car up, looking out his back window before hitting the gas and driving out of the hospital grounds, quickly driving to Renee's house which wasn't far.
"Ok, not to ask a dumb question, but everyone did take their meds this morning, right?" Punk asked, "Jessie?"
"Uh… excuse me?" Jessie folded her arms, sitting in the middle of the back seat.
"April made sure we took them." Tracy assured him, "It's why we're all acting weird."
"You always act weird." Punk nodded as she stuck her tongue out at him as he chuckled.
They eventually arrived at Renee's house. Punk parked up outside as they all got out of the car. He watched as they skipped their way to the door of the house, knocking on the door as he followed behind, taking his phone out as he noticed a text from Dean.
Got list of workers at the Swinson house through a four year period where Teresa worked during. Already making phone calls. Making moves.
Punk smiled to himself, putting the phone back in his pocket as Renee came to the door, letting them all in as Punk nodded to her.
"This shouldn't take long." Renee assured him, everything she needed set up on the coffee table.
"We're like little lab rats." Tracy smiled, jumping onto the couch in the living room as Punk scoffed.
"So what happens once you have our blood? Do you like… get a microscope or something?" Sady nodded as Renee wiped Tracy's arm, finding her vein to take her blood carefully.
"It's gonna show up what medication you guys are all on." Renee nodded to them, "And just to be sure, I'm gonna get you guys to do urine samples for me."
"You're sticking that needle down there?!" Pauline yelled as Punk chuckled to himself.
"No." Renee laughed, "No, I need you to pee in a cup, that's all." She said.
"Oh." Pauline said.
"That's gross." Sady folded her arms.
"Not my first time peeing in a cup." Tracy smirked, looking over at Punk deliberately to make him uncomfortable as he just shook his head. It was gonna be a long day.
"Hey." AJ smiled, standing at the door of Punk's office later that night, smiling as she saw him sitting slouched in the chair, exhausted and practically falling asleep.
"Hey." Punk looked up, his eyes nipping, sitting up properly as she walked into his office, "How's your ankle?" He teased.
"Not broken." She played along as Punk chuckled, watching as she sat up on the desk.
He'd made five trips throughout the day before hitting the twelve hour mark, taking all the girls for blood and urine samples to Renee, where she was taking them to the lab in her university to have them tested and printed up for evidence.
"We gotta get the official prescription document which I assume Lily will have. And we also need Lynch's documents on all of you. Show the diagnosis, show the incorrect prescription of drugs, fire his ass." Punk nodded as she smiled.
"We're really gonna get rid of him, aren't we?" AJ smiled.
"Yeah." Punk nodded, "And Dean sent me a text, he's got a list of workers from a period when your mom worked at Billy's house. He's gonna call, meet with them and ask about their time there, if anything happened, if they saw anything." He said as AJ nodded.
"How'd he manage to find that?" AJ scoffed.
"We're cops." Punk shrugged as she smiled. She was in awe of the lengths he was going to help. It wasn't anything she ever expected, and with the girls all complying and going along with it, made it even easier. Some were a little harder to get into the car than others, but luckily Punk had patience.
"When do you think the time will be to tell your boss?" AJ asked him.
"When we're set. Me and Dean are gonna talk to the guys who lead your mom's case. Once we've covered that ground, we'll figure out if it's time to tell Clark." Punk nodded, "If we can prove the four elements of negligence on behalf of Lynch's drug prescribing which are…" He looked over at the paper work, "Duty, breach of that duty, proximate cause, and harm." He said, "His ass is out of here." He nodded.
"And that's when we take down Billy." AJ nodded longingly. It was a dream. An obsession.
"I need to somehow get into Lynch's office." Punk said, "He locks it, right?"
"Yeah." AJ nodded, "But I'm sure Lil has a key for his office." She said as Punk sighed to himself.
"I don't think she'd give me it." Punk said.
"So I'll steal it." AJ shrugged as Punk sighed to himself.
"I don't wanna do that to her." Punk sighed.
"Hey, you know deep down she hates how this place runs." AJ said as Punk nodded to himself, "I'll get you the key in the morning." She said, "Lynch normally comes in late on a Sunday." She nodded.
"Ok." Punk said, "That should give me enough time to make copies." He nodded.
"Look for something that might indicate him working with Billy. If we could prove they've been working together and Billy has been giving Steve money to keep me in here, that'd be good." AJ nodded.
"Yeah and I'm gonna look into that girl who killed herself when she left this place a few years ago. Apparently her parents were having people snoop around but now we know Billy probably sorted it out and protected Steve." Punk said as AJ nodded.
"Yeah, I remember her." AJ nodded to herself, looking over at him, "I'm scared we fall on our face." She admitted as he shook his head.
"I could arrest them right now if I wanted to." Punk reminded her, wheeling his chair over to her, taking her hands in his, "But if we have stronger evidence, there's a big difference on if they walk or if they get buried." Punk said as she nodded, "We need to get a paternity test done for you, too." He said as AJ nodded.
"I'm terrified that he's onto us. That he knows what we're doing." AJ sighed.
"Granted, he's probably nervous that he knows I'm looking into the case and that I'm working in here with you but… I think he thinks everything is still going his way. You're tucked away in here, silenced, in his mind." Punk said.
"I can play the fool for a little bit longer." AJ nodded as he smiled, lifting her down from the desk and onto his lap as she smiled, leaning her forehead against his, pressing her lips against his, passionately kissing him as he deepened the kiss, spinning the chair around with them on it as she chuckled against his lips.
