Sunny heard Bakugo before she saw him.

It was the loud, "Fucking Sugawara!" That gave away that he was now awake.

Sunny and Ms Bakugo – who had insisted that she call her Mitsuki – watched with bemusement as Bakugo came tumbling down the stairs.

"What's wrong with you?" Mitsuki shot at her son as the younger blond staggered on his feet once he reached the bottom of the staircase. She didn't even bother looking up from where she was watching Sunny paint her nails.

"What the fuck is going on here?" Bakugo ignored his mother and came marching towards the pair of them while they sat at the kitchen table. His limp didn't go unnoticed, but Sunny knew better than to point it out.

His mother either did not know better or just didn't give a toss, because she pointed it out right away.

"I did it on work experience," Bakugo snapped back quickly when his mother mocked him. But his gaze soon swung to Sunny while she fought back a snicker, "What are you doing down here?"

"You fell asleep," Sunny replied, concentrating intently on Mitsuki's nails, if she looked up at Bakugo's angry face she would surely just burst out laughing. Her tongue was poking out slightly as she worked, "Did you get my note?"

"Of course, I fucking got your note," He spat back, holding up a screwed-up piece of notebook paper that had a doodle on it, "How could I not get it when you stuck it to my goddamn forehead?! How the hell did you stick it, anyway?"

"I licked it."

In response Bakugo grimaced, screwing the paper up before throwing it at Sunny. It hit her dead in the forehead, but she didn't even blink in response.

"Katsuki!" His mother scolded, "Don't be so rude to your little girlfriend! Have some respect! You respect her, don't you?"

"Whatever gave you that idea?" Bakugo muttered bitterly. He hobbled closer to them and pulled out another chair from the table, unnecessarily letting the legs drag along the tiled floor. He plopped himself down heavily, wincing and resting his head in his hand with his elbows on the table.

"What are you doing?" He continued at Sunny.

"Painting your mother's nails."

Sunny saw Bakugo narrow his eyes out of the corner of her vision, "I can fucking see that." Came his reply.

"Then why ask?"

Bakugo's face scrunched up and he growled.

"Be nice!" Both Sunny and Mitsuki snapped in unison, completely shocking Bakugo. He looked between them incredulously as they turned to one another and giggled.

"Your mum showed me some of your baby pictures…" Sunny began with a smirk, still not looking at Bakugo.

Katsuki whipped his head towards his mother so fast his neck cracked, "You fucking hag, you can't—"

"Pack it in, Kat, you were such a cute baby." Mitsuki scowled.

"What happened?" Again, Sunny and Mitsuki giggled together at Bakugo's expense. "But why were you always naked?" Sunny asked.

Mitsuki answered for her son, "He just hated clothes. He was constantly getting his little pee-pee out."

The pursed lips and suddenly raised brows on Sunny's face made Bakugo abruptly stand, palms flush against the table. He was about to yell, but his mother cut him off.

"I was just saying to Sunny here that we should all have dinner one night next week," She began, not taking any notice of her raging son, "How does Tuesday sound for you, dear?"

Sunny finally paused her nail painting to take a moment to think, "I can't do Tuesday, I can do Thursday? Or Friday?"

"Why can't you do Tuesday or Wednesday?" Bakugo interjected, still poised over the table menacingly. Unfortunately, neither women in front of him seemed to take any notice.

"I have plans those days," Came the matter-of-fact response.

Bakugo clenched his teeth, eye twitching as he tried to cool his blasters in front of his mother, "What plans?"

Sunny paused once again, this time raising a finger to her lip as she thought, "Wednesday's Denks and I watch Mama Mia-"

"- Oh, I love that film! Which one, the first or second?" Mitsuki interrupted excitedly, but this time it was Katsuki's turn to cut someone off.

"Irrelevant!" He snapped, leaning towards Sunny to urge her to continue.

She did, but not because she was intimidated by his posture or expression, that went completely over her head. She tapped her lip, "And Tuesday I promised I would help Izuku after school."

Bakugo's eyes popped for a moment before rolling right round in his head, flashing white, "What?"

"I said, Tuesday I promised-"

"I fucking heard you the first time!"

"Oh."

"What do you mean you're helping him?" Bakugo pressed, leaning further and further over the table towards Sunny, "Helping him with what exactly?"

Sunny blinked at Katsuki when he closed the distance between them and pressed his forehead hard against hers. Although it wasn't affectionate from him and he was trying to intimidate her, Sunny still leaned in and gently rubbed her nose against his and chirped.

Bakugo fought the urge to headbutt her.

"With training, silly," Sunny then turned away from the blond, although not before playfully flicking the tip of his nose.

Bakugo swatted her hand away and retreated himself, "Like fuck you are. You didn't ask me about this."

Sunny frowned at him, "Ask? Ask you about what? Would you like to join us?"

"Like hell, I would!"

"Oh."

Sunny then turned back to work on Mitsuki's nails, smiling a little to herself and very much undisturbed by their conversation.

Bakugo sat back in his chair with a huff, crossing his arms over his chest and scowling heavily. He remained silent while the two women continued, chatting away happily to one another. He wanted to raise the issue again, but not in front of his mother. He would no doubt receive a clap around the ears if he raised his voice at Sunny again.

What annoyed him even more than her being blissfully unaware about how annoyed he was, however, was the fact he was annoyed in the first place. He knew deep down if he told Sunny to cancel her plans with Midoriya she would just bite his head off over it and call him ridiculous because he was being just that.

And he knew that. And that was annoying. He couldn't project his feelings onto someone like Sunny, she would chew him out over it.

She made him realise how stupid he was being, and that annoyed him more than anything.

She was like a damn wakeup call he never asked for, but fuck did he enjoy watching the sunrise.

"Look, Suki! I didn't know you had a twin!"

Bakugo turned around from where he had been unenthusiastically watching some sort of shark glide around in front of him, to come up behind Sunny. They were in one of those underwater tunnels in the aquarium, and Sunny had her face pressed right up against the glass, her excited breathing misting it up.

"Eh?" He grunted.

Sunny gently poked her finger on the glass, pointing downwards towards the sandy tank bed. Bakugo's eyes nearly rolled into the back of his head when he caught sight of what she was talking about.

It was an ugly, beige, spiky stonefish. It was sat on the floor of the tank glaring up at them with its beady black eyes and a constant gaping frown.

"Very funny," He muttered, wandering off. He felt Sunny come trotting up behind him and slip her hand in his, lacing their fingers together as she began jabbering on about something.

He wasn't listening to her really, his mind preoccupied with the thought of her training with shitty Deku. His Sunny.

He was annoyed at Sunny for agreeing to something like that without consulting him. And he was annoyed at Deku because, well... He was always annoyed at Midoriya.

Sunny noticed how Bakugo's neck was hunched into his shoulders and she squeezed his hand tighter with her own.

"What's wrong, Suki? Are you not enjoying the fishies?" She ground them to a halt towards the end of the tunnel, her attention momentarily taken by a small school of silver fish shimmying past, "Oooo~ Wow! Did you see that, Suki?!"

Bakugo grunted.

Sunny pouted at his uninterested response. She took another step towards him, turning herself so they stood chest to chest and noticing he was adamantly avoiding eye contact with her.

"What's wrong?" She slung her arms around his shoulders, running her fingers through the soft hair at the nape of his neck.

"Nothing."

"Don't lie to me, Suki," She huffed, gently tugging at his hair to get his attention. Fortunately, it was quite late in the day now, and the aquarium tunnel was completely empty, so this wasn't totally inappropriate for a public space.

"You," Bakugo finally muttered, still not making eye contact, "And that shitty Deku."

Sunny puffed and rolled her eyes, "This again? We're friends, and may I remind you we were friends long before you decided you didn't hate me."

"I never hated you," Katsuki said hurriedly, briefly catching Sunny's gaze before shifting off again. "But I hate him, and I don't want you hanging around with him."

"Well, tough titties," Sunny dropped one of her hands and poked him in the chest with a long-nailed finger, before quickly flicking his nipple, "I told you, you're more than welcome to join us. It's an open invitation, Izuku said Ochaco would be interested too, and-"

Bakugo flopped his head back and let out a loud, dramatic moan of annoyance.

"Oh, shush your mush," Sunny huffed again, "I bet if you asked Kirishima, he'd jump at the chance to come too – so you can have a buddy there."

Bakugo made another unconvinced rumbling noise, "What were you going to do?"

"I was going to show them some combat moves, I guess."

Bakugo pursed his lips again, but his eyes were finally on Sunny and he looked down at her carefully.

"And when's this happening?"

"Tuesday."

"And you're not free Wednesday, either?"

"Nope, Wednesday's are my Denki-dates, which once again you are more than welcome to join us on. Again, you can bring your boyfriend, I'm sure Kiri would be beside himself to cuddle up on the sofa with you and watch a musical."

Bakugo was watching Sunny's playful grin with a hard glare, "Stop referring to me and shitty-hair as a fucking couple, you creep."

Sunny's grin only broadened, "Oh, a girl can dream, can't she? Hey! I've got an idea! We should totally have a three-"

Bakugo cut her off by shoving his fist in her open mouth, "Fucking think before you speak, Sugawara!" He then grumbled to himself, "But fine, I'll come to your shitty training session, but only to keep an eye on you."

Sunny licked at his knuckle until he withdrew them with a sneer, "Keep an eye on me? Do you not trust me?"

"Absolutely fucking not."

He answered a little too quickly maybe, as the look on Sunny's face was genuine hurt.

He quickly backpaddled, "You're a massive flirt, I don't want that shitty Deku getting the wrong idea."

Sunny still pulled away, expression a little too blank for Bakugo to work out what she was thinking. She turned from him, with a lame, "Okay," and started walking up the steps out of the tunnel.

Bakugo stood there like an idiot for a long few moments, annoyed at himself and then annoyed at her for making him annoyed at himself.

Sunny had only just reached the top of the steps when she felt a pair of arms snake around her waist and pull her against a hard chest. Bakugo dipped his face into the crook of her neck.

"Sorry..." He mumbled against her skin, his slightly chapped lips tickled her, "I trust you. I promise. I... I just don't like the way other people look at you."

"If you trust me, you'll trust that it won't affect me. Even though other people aren't looking at me in any particular way, that's just you imagining things and being an insecure himbo."

Bakugo just grovelled into her neck, tightening his arms around her.

"I'm not going anywhere, you big goof." Sunny continued with a little giggle. She spun in his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck once more and pressing their foreheads together affectionately. She stood on her tips toes to rub her nose against his back and forth, an action he had only seen her do to him. She often pressed up against people, she was like Kirishima in the fact she had no idea what personal space was.

He had noticed with her closest friends, Kaminari and Yayorozu especially, that she would grab their faces and rub her cheek against theirs. This could be as a greeting or simply an expression of excitement or joy about something. But still, he was the only one who got nose boops.

She was about to pull away when Bakugo stooped a little, catching her nose and giving her just a single flick with the tip of his.

The joy that crossed Sunny's face once be moved away squeezed his heart and nearly winded him.

Immediately she was up on the tips of her toes again, rubbing her nose against his a few more times before ducking down again, chirping at him and watching with expectant pumpkin hues.

Bakugo couldn't help but roll his eyes, but there was no malice there and a gentle smile tugged at his lips. He ducked again, and once more rubbed his nose against hers.

She trilled again, grinning so broadly her eyes disappeared behind her cheeks. She went to get on her tiptoes again but was stopped by Bakugo's hand to her face.

"I'm done." He told her, dropping his hand to entwine their fingers, "Come on, there are seahorses over here. You like those, right?"

Sunny nodded as she fell into step beside him, "Did you know the boy seahorses have the babies? Now, that's an evolution I can totally vibe with."

Sunny watched Bakugo's lip twitch out of the corner of her eye, but she couldn't help but try to hide her own frown.

Over the last few days, it was becoming more and more obvious to her that he was cripplingly self-conscious.

Self-conscious or scared of failure? Scared of the unknown? Scared of vulnerability? All of the above?

She did not doubt that the loud, cocky, rude, alpha male Bakugo that all their classmates and friends knew was genuine, but there was certainly another side to him that was slipping out the more they spent time together.

Was he like this with other people he knew well? Kirishima? His mother?

Maybe it was the type of time they spent together that held the issue.

Was it because he didn't have control of her like he did with every other aspect of his life?

That seemed more plausible.

He had a strong quirk, he was smart, good looking... He had so much going for him. And yet... And yet when they were together, she felt as though he was on-edge a lot of the time. He kept finding faults or creating faults. He was worried about this or overthinking about that. It was extremely surprising, actually.

She couldn't help but wonder if it was actually because he thought very highly of her. He had admitted he had found her 'awesome', even if he'd made out sound like a bad thing.

But maybe that was it? He referred to his best friend as 'someone he doesn't hate', so maybe him grumbling about her being awesome was actually one of the highest compliments Bakugo could comprehend giving, and the way he said it so bitterly, he clearly wasn't happy about it.

Did he think she was out of his league?

Bakugo really wasn't the jealous type.

Aggressive? Sure.

Demanding? Absolutely.

Impatient? Without a doubt.

But jealous? Not so much. If there was something he wanted, he would work his fingers to the bone to get it. If someone had a better quirk than him, instead of being jealous about it, he would be bitter, but work to be better than them. He saw those opportunities as challenges and rose to them.

But did he care about people? No way.

Would he care if Kirishima cancelled on him last minute to go hang out with Mina? He would probably go tell him to fuck himself, sure, but would he be jealous?

But Sunny realised that with her it was a totally different story. He did get jealous around her, and that was glaringly obvious to her now that it was his emotionally stunted way of caring about her.

So, maybe she shouldn't get so funny with him when he voiced his jealousy, after all, she wanted him to trust her. A little reassurance went a long way, and she was emotionally torturing him a bit.

"Hey, Suki~" Sunny smiled up at Bakugo from their position in front of the seahorse tank. The blond had been peering into the water with a little more interest than before, but upon hearing her voice he instantly turned to her.

"What?"

"Can we take a picture together? I want a new profile picture." She smiled sweetly up at him.

For a moment, Bakugo looked a little taken aback, "Hah?"

Sunny didn't waste another moment and she stuck her hand into his trouser pocket to pull out his phone. He didn't even try to stop her when she swiped up the camera.

Sunny stepped into Bakugo, snaking her arm around his waist and pulling herself tighter against him. Katsuki kind of just stood there like a lemon for a moment or two, watching Sunny flick her head to adjust her hair in the camera.

"Don't pull that face," She scolded him, obviously just noticing his confused expression.

"What face? That's my normal face." He scowled down at her and in return, she smiled up at him. It only lasted for a moment, however, before she leaned in and gave his lips a soft, sweet kiss. Without even realising it, Bakugo found himself leaning in to her, but before he'd even had a chance to savour the moment she was pulling away, a gentle smile still playing at her lips.

Then she stepped away from him, holding his phone a little way away from her to peer at the screen like the short-sighted idiot she was.

"Awh," She began, scrolling along the pictures she just took, "Aren't we the cutest?"

Bakugo's eyes popped, "Hah?!" He ripped the phone from her grasp, frantically flipping through the pictures himself. He hadn't even realised she had been taking these, "You tricked me!" He accused.

There were five or six pictures, all cast in a pretty blue light from the fish tanks around them. The first picture was of Sunny grinning happily in the camera, large, white teeth practically glowing in the blue light around them. He was pressed uncomfortably up next to her with a blank expression bar a grumpy brow in frustration. The next photo had Sunny looking up at him, with the following one being him turned to look at her. He couldn't really see his own face now his head was turned, but the smoothness of his profile told him he was no longer frowning. However, the way Sunny's large eyes were sparkling up at him so wide and full of affection he physically heaved.

He didn't bother looking at the rest.

"Oh, behave, Suki!" Sunny scowled and snatched his phone back. "Will you send these to me when I get a new phone?"

"Don't tell me what to do."

"I'm setting this one as your lock screen."

Bakugo grumbled but took his phone when she offered it back to him. He pretended to put it straight in his pocket, but as soon as Sunny turned away he quickly double-tapped the screen. The image that popped up brightly had him rolling his eyes in exasperation. The picture she had used was one of them kissing, and he noticed how he was smiling against her lips.

He pocketed his phone with a huff but didn't make a move to change it.

"How long are you going to be?" Bakugo whined aggressively, "Looking at all these fish has made me hungry."

Sunny's head popped up from over a mound of aquatic-themed plushies, "Fish are friends, Suki, not food!"

"Hah? You eat more fish than a whale."

That comment earned him a frown, but apparently not a reply because she disappeared again.

They had been in the gift shop for what felt like hours while Sunny struggled to choose a toy, and Bakugo was growing more and more impatient by the second.

"What about this one?" He held up a pink, fuzzy dolphin with beady, glittery blue eyes. She liked pink, right?

Sunny reappeared over the mountain of toys, pulled a face and then disappeared again.

He groaned loudly, "You have five minutes, Sugawara, and then I'll be dragging you out by your tail, toy or no toy."

"Ooft, are you flirting with me?"

"No, I'm fucking threatening you." Bakugo could just see her sparkling orange eyes over the toy pile, and it made him want to throw something at her. So, he did. He grabbed the first toy within his reach and launched it at her.

She quickly caught it and was about to throw it back at him, grinning, but abruptly stopped.

"What?" He barked at her, watching her confused face examine the toy.

She then looked up at him, holding the small, orange octopus. Her lip was shaking, and her eyes were large and watery.

"It... It looks like you, Suki!"

Annoyingly, it did.

The small orange octopus held a real deep frown on its embroidered face, like:

:C

"Hah?" Bakugo found himself trying not to frown like the stupid octopus Sunny was holding up towards him, so instead he grabbed another one, a baby pink one with the opposite face on it. "It's you."

C:

Sunny squealed excitedly, face scrunching up in the most wonderful way. She pressed the orange octopus to her chest and swayed a little joyously. But her eyes popped a little when she watched Bakugo turn the toy inside out.

"Ah! Don't do that to me!"

Bakugo then wordlessly held the toy up. The toy was now yellow and had an angry face like the orange one she was holding. Sunny blinked and popped her own plush inside out, noticing it's black underbelly folded in on itself and revealed a new face.

Sunny gasped and then squealed again, turning it back to the angry face.

"You get that one, I'll get this one!" She grinned brightly, "Then we will always have the other one around."

And then she disappeared before Bakugo had to chance to tell her he didn't want a stupid pink toy.

Bakugo had never felt like his manhood was ever infringed upon. If the situation ever arose, he would point blank refuse to do whatever it was. No one could ever make Katsuki Bakugo do something he didn't want to do, especially if that thing made him look silly.

Except for Sunny. She could make him do whatever she damn wanted.

And if that meant walking around holding two stuffed octopuses by the tentacles – because god forbid he held them by their heads and hurt them – then so be it.

He had the two plushies in one hand, and Sunny's hand in the other. She was sipping on a smoothie and holding a plastic bag full of sushi as they headed towards the beach.

The sun was nearly set now, casting a salmon pink glow across the water and reflecting onto the sparkling sand. Bakugo noticed how Sunny's hair would always reflect the colours around her, and in the pink, orange sky her hair looked as though it was glowing peaches and cream.

She was jabbering on about something, verbal diarrhoea in full swing. But he didn't mind not talking, he wasn't much of a talker anyway, and much like Kirishima and his nonsense talk, it was sometimes nice to listen to the white noise of happy voices.

Sunny let go of Bakugo's hand once they had descended the steps leading down onto the beach, she ran a few meters before promptly tripping over. She fell on her front with an 'oof!', laying still for just a moment before scrambling up and trotting off again.

Again, she only made it a few metres before she fell over again.

"Don't tell me sand is your one weakness," Bakugo snorted incredulously, watching as Sunny flipped over onto her front and sat up. She nestled into the sand for a few moments, wiggling her bottom and then looked up at the blond expectantly, waiting for him to sit next to her.

"It's fun to let it trip you up!"

"Stupid neko-person," Bakugo muttered, plopping down heavily beside her and immediately rooting through the plastic bag she had discarded between them in search for his water bottle.

He looked up when he felt Sunny shift beside him, "Hah?"

"Don't call me neko," She pouted at him, but not in her usual manner, she genuinely looked upset, "Please?"

"You literally are though."

"Suki, please, I'm asking nicely."

Bakugo rolled his eyes and pulled a face, but promptly dropped the act when he noticed Sunny's genuinely hurt expression. His face softened, "Alright."

"You can call me kitten though," She purred, mood switching instantly in that crazy way that made it always seem like she was insincere.

"Yeah, dream on, fleabag."

"Hey! You did earlier! You called me your kitten and your sunshine."

Sunny watched with a shit-eating grin as Bakugo's pretty ruby hues shrunk to pinpricks, "Hah?"

She fluffed herself up proudly, tail quivering and ears bouncing, "Yep! When you were enjoying yourself. Don't you remember?"

Bakugo snarled, winding his neck in and hunching his shoulders, "I didn't realise I said that out loud."

"Oh, baby, you said a lot out loud."

"It wasn't my fault, okay? It was that stupid purr of yours. But if you tell anyone, I'll kill you."

Sunny held her hands up suddenly in defence, but she was still grinning, "Hey, now. No need to get like that. There's nothing wrong with enjoying yourself."

"There's enjoying yourself and then there was that. My balls still fucking hurt, they're like fucking raisins; I don't think I'll need to have a wank for at least a week."

Sunny scrunched her nose up, "You know, sometimes I wish you weren't so comfortable with me. T.M.I, baby- Wah!"

Bakugo shoved his hand into her face and pushed her away.

She licked his palm and continued, "But at least we know how to not get you all wound up and blasty, although I do like a little bit of danger."

"Say no more, I'll blast your arse to space right now." He hissed back, but he grumbled when her eyes lit up and she trilled loudly.

"Yes please!" That earned her another hand to the face. "Wah!"

He then grinned murderously, "Don't worry though," He leant in towards her, "It'll be your turn next time... Kitten."

Sunny closed the distance, rubbing her nose against his, "And I'm readying myself to be massively disappoint- Wah!"

Bakugo leapt at her, toppling her over and caging her in under him with his arms either side of her head.

She was laughing for a moment, but she quickly stopped to look up at him. Noticing his soft expression and gentle gaze she found herself purring.

Her eyes met his, flickering slightly as she breathed him in – that cheap sandalwood body wash, Lynx Africa and petrol. It was overwhelming, it was the best smell in the world.

Bakugo dipped his head and Sunny raised her chin to meet him in a sweet, brief kiss. Her tongue darted out to meet his but only for a moment before he was retreating, scattering featherlight kisses from the side of her lips down to her jaw and up to graze his lips over her temple.

"Sunny…" His voice was so deep and husky, and Sunny found her eyelids fluttering, "Please, be my girlfriend?"

She felt Bakugo grin against her skin when his question coaxed a loud purr out of her. She turned her head slightly, trying to catch his lips again but he dodged her.

"Yes, Suki." She finally replied, the words barely left her lips before Bakugo dipped again, pressing his lips to hers more forcefully this time.

She felt his body lower slowly against hers, fingers entangling into her hair, "Mmm," His low hum rattled through her pleasantly, "My kitten."

She purred louder. She had never been so happy.
