I finally found the motivation to write another one-shot after all this time, and I think this one is pretty good. So, Waddle Z, this one's for your brilliant idea. Enjoy, and here's to 50!
A flurry of boot-clad footsteps pattered along the halls like raindrops, making their way up a flight of stairs as fast as they could.
Then again, Robin was never that fast to begin with.
Where was he headed in such a hurry?
The villains' room, silly!
Robin approached a large, steel door covered in graffiti of all kinds, in all sorts of languages.
It would've been a pretty sight if most of the marks weren't death threats towards certain heroes.
The majority of the threats seemed to be made towards Erdrick, Mario, Link, Samus, and somebody named "Alef".
Robin took a deep breath, quickly prayed to Naga, crossed his heart, and hoped to die a quick death, and used all his strength to thrust the door open, slowly but surely.
Once inside, Robin made a beeline for a bright green door covered in vines, avoiding stares from Mewtwo, the stench of whatever Wario had for breakfast, and the giant, bloody hunk of meat that Ridley was chewing on. Ganondorf glimpsed him and went back to plotting whatever.
Robin heaved a sigh of relief once he reached the door, but just as he was about to pull it open, Dark Samus tapped him on the shoulder.
"Oh!' the tactician yelped in shock, 'Dark Samus, what's the matter?"
The alien parasite handed him an envelope, with 'to my dearest darling, Rocky', written on the back in fancy black-and-blue ink.
"Give this to my sweetheart', she cooed seductively, 'I miss him dearly; I haven't been able to watch him because Master Hand put him in that new, safer room. Do be a dear and tell him that he should visit me more often, will you, Robin?"
The mage, a tad flustered, nodded, took the note, and entered the lime, vine-wrapped door in a flash.
Inside, a potted plant sat on a counter covered in flower petals, its sharp, carnivorous teeth gleaming in the midday sunlight.
"Hello there, Snapp', Robin smiled warmly, setting his tome on the counter, 'how are you today?"
The plant on the counter turned around slowly, showing off more of its teeth as it smiled happily at the new human in the room.
"So, what brings me here? What did you need from me?" the mage asked, twiddling his thumbs as he knelt to the plant's level.
The plant, Piranha Plant, pointed at a bookshelf, one that Robin would pull from a lot to read bedtime stories as of late.
"What of it?" Robin asked, puzzled and yet curious.
Piranha Plant toddled in his pot to the shelf, where he pulled out a book titled, "Best Poems of our Time".
"You want me to read you some poems? I would love to!" the tactician gladly agreed, cracking the book wide open, 'alright then, let's see. Which one do you want me to read?"
Piranha Plant laid his leaf in between two pages, 356 and 357, at the back of the book, and flipped it open, revealing an empty page, covered in lines to write on.
"You want to try to… write poetry?" Robin attempted to grasp onto what the heck Snapp Dragon wanted to do.
(Why is he called Snapp Dragon? Because I got tired of trying to spell the word 'piranha').
Snapp Dragon nodded victoriously, pointed one of his huge, hand-like leaves at the piece of paper on Robin's writing table.
"Um, why?' he asked, 'I mean, you've never showed interest in this style of art before. What made you so eager to do it now?"
Snapp Dragon pointed at a photo of a Chain Chomp mounted on the eastern wall; a pink bow adorned the top of her head like a little girl would wear it, quite odd for a rowdy creature like a Chain Chomp.
"Oh, I see', Robin chuckled, a mischievous glint in his eyes, 'you wanna impress someone, now don't you? Okay, orchid, I'll help you get your mate".
Robin and Snapp Dragon set to work immediately, thinking of the perfect love poem for the latter's crush while gathering materials like scrap paper, an assortment of coloring materials, and stamps (because who wouldn't want a poem decorated with stamps).
Robin sat down at a petal-covered desk in one of the few wooden chairs in the room; he pulled out a black ink pen and began to fiddle with it. "Any ideas so far, Snapp?"
Robin asked, writing one single word on the blank, white sheet of paper: "Dear, [blank]". Snapp Dragon waddled over to another pot, this one hanging from the ceiling, overflowing with poppies.
"Poppies? Oh! Varying a little from tradition, are we?' Robin smirked, jotting, "poppies are red", down on the paper with a pen as red as a sunset on a desert, 'will do, Snapp."
Snapp pulled out a flower stamp, pressed it firmly into the red stamp pad, and squelched it to the paper, leaving a red flower in its wake near the spot where Robin wrote "Dear, [blank]".
"What's next?" the tactician asked, gesturing for Snapp to answer. The plant once again waddled over to a plant pot, but this one was grounded, seemed to be made of a very sturdy clay, and the brilliantly blue flowers were just barely visible over the top of the rim.
"Those don't seem to be violets', Robin pointed out, a hint of confusion present in his tone, 'what kind of flowers are those?" Before you could say, "grilled cheese on rye, hold the tomato", Snapp had a large book titled, "Plantae for Noobs" in front of Robin like a piece of fresh kill that a wild cat had caught for its elders.
He flipped open the book to page 87, which was titled, "Violets are Blue, but these are too", and pointed at a flower called a cornflower.
"Wow, the more you know!' Robin smiled warmly, 'I'll jot that down, give me a moment, if you please?"
Right below, "poppies are red", Robin took an ocean blue colored pencil and wrote, "cornflowers are blue", in fancy, cursive lettering.
Before Robin could ask him again, Snapp was already off, looking for something else.
A moment later, he came back with a little, folded piece of paper covered in scribbles. When Robin opened it and read the note, he smiled like a child on Christmas morning. The note read, "Roses are red, violets are blue, if you're reading this, please write back, I do love you. Warmly, Yip-Yip."
"What a lovely name she has', Robin finally spoke, 'let's give her a poem she'll treasure forever."
Snapp panted like a tired dog, but he was clearly excited by Robin's proposal.
The two of them spent the good rest of the hour talking (well, Robin was the only one who was speaking, but you get the picture) about the completion of the poem.
After a long, long while, it was done, Snapp's letter for Yip-Yip was done, and he was so excited to see how she'd react.
Robin made the final stamp marks on Snapp's request, signed it, "With prosperity, Snapp Dragon", and sealed the love letter in an envelope.
Robin stood up to face his new friend, and grinned, happy that the two of them could be friends, especially after the events of Game Over, as everyone in the mansion had dubbed it.
"Alright, let's get- Woah! Snapp! Slow down!" Robin was yanked by his arm, letter in hand, as Snapp raced out the door at top speed. Wario started to laugh at them, but Bowser made him cut it out with a strong blow to the noggin.
As Snapp pulled him down the hall, Robin caught glimpses of many fighters going on their ways:
Snake and Bayonetta were having a pleasant conversation with Joker on the hallway leading to the 3rd Party Room.
Diddy Kong and the Ice Climbers were sharing banana smoothies while laughing happily.
Marth and Lucina were in an intense game of chess.
Falco and Captain Olimar talking about the Pikmin race.
Mega Man was helping Erdrick do with his form while telling some genuinely funny jokes.
Ness and Toon Link were right beside them playing with a jump rope.
And Samus and Min-Min were talking about certain ramen recipes.
Robin smiled, seeing everyone so happy for once, especially Snapp, seeing as how they were about to enter the assist trophy quarters, known for being the most toxic place in the mansion.
Reason?
Waluigi and the Order of Rejection.
As Robin had heard, they had made a name for themselves, making everyone's lives just a little bit harder than they needed to be.
Waluigi let the fame from memes and such go to his head, and now, everyone is beneath him, and he can and will have everything he wants.
Robin just hoped that he wouldn't get noticed by the members of the order.
Then again, it wasn't like they were too hard to spot; they wore bright purple clothing.
Snapp came to a door marked with the name, "Chain Chomp", and stopped abruptly, nearly causing his medieval friend to slam into the door like an idiot.
'Good, we're here', Robin thought, knocking on the door.
It creaked open, and Alucard came out of it.
"What in the world do you-', he saw Robin and Snapp, and stopped at once, 'do forgive my tone, Robin. I thought you were a member of the Order of Rejection."
"You're forgiven', he understood where Alucard was coming from, and didn't think twice about accepting the apology, 'and Snapp here wanted to give something to Yip-Yip".
"He may", Alucard replied with a smirk, letting them through.
Inside, a lone Chain Chomp, a bow adorning her head, sat freshly polished in a dreary room.
"Hello there, Yip-Yip', Robin calmly greeted her, 'I am Robin, and Snapp has something for you".
At the mention of the plant's name, Yip-Yip began jumping happily about, nearly crushing Robin's foot, missing by millimeters.
Snapp took the poem from his buddy's hand and handed it to his friend.
She took it greedily and began to read it eagerly:
"Poppies are red,
cornflowers are blue,
Waluigi's words are stupid,
and obviously untrue.
You are beautiful,
and smart,
and loved beyond compare.
If you ever need a friend,
you can bet that I'll be there.
Poppies are red,
cornflowers are blue,
there's no mistaking it,
I do love you.
-With prosperity, Snapp Dragon"
Yip-Yip teared up, and rubbed her large head against Snapp's pot lovingly, whimpering in a thankful tone.
"I'll take my leave now, have a good day, you too', Robin grinned, leaving the room, 'I have a letter to deliver to Mega Man anyway".
Now, there were no doubts about it: Robin could make somebody happy.
And it would only get better from here.
