The first sound Kyo heard as he regained consciousness was the soft beeping of the heart monitor. As he became more self aware, he winced, feeling the throbbing ache of his body, mostly centered on the back of his head. Upon seeing him stir, Tohru quickly grabbed onto his hand. He opened his eyes to the touch, focusing on the beautiful woman with tear-stained cheeks.

"Tohru?" His word came out quiet and gravelly.

"Kyo! You're awake!" Her eyes were wide and filling with tears as her shaky hands squeezed his tighter. He winced again as a sharp pain shot up his arm. He felt like hell. "Are you hurting?" She asked worriedly.

He nodded, glancing around the room. She reached over and grabbed a button that seemed to be attached to a machine secured to a metal pole. It beeped as she pressed it, sending a rush of medication into his IV line.

"What is that?" He asked, finding it painful to speak.

"Pain medicine. We can press it when you are in pain. I'm sorry I hadn't pressed it more recently. It was hard to tell since you've been sleeping for so long." She looked at him apologetically.

Kyo glanced out the large window beside him. The rooftops did not seem to be covered in snow.

"Where are we?"

"Home. A tree branch fell on your head when you were on your way back from Hatori's cabin. Shigure found you and brought you back. You were both sent to the hospital, but when you didn't wake up, they decided to transfer you here. They flew you in a helicopter. They said you had hypothermia and a small skull fracture..." Her voice became quiet and shaky. "Oh, Kyo.. I thought I had lost you..." she moved to rest her head on his side. He lifted his other arm and slowly stroked her hair.

"Water?" He asked, hoping a cool drink would help the scratchiness of his voice.

She instead took out a small thermos. He could feel as the medicine he had recieved began to slowly heat up his core, making his head feel lighter and his mind feel as if it were floating.

"They want you to drink warm things, so I brought you tea." She explained, handing him a warm cup. The hospital room door swung open as Hatori walked in, followed by a nurse and doctor wearing a white coat and stethoscope.

"I see you are awake, Kyo. How did you enjoy your three day nap?"

Kyo nearly choked on his tea. "Three days?! I've been out for that long?"

Tohru nodded, her eyes tired and full of sorrow.

"Yes. Is the medicine helping? How would you rank your pain?" The older doctor asked.

"I feel great now." Kyo stretched his arms behind his head. The medicine seemed to take immediate effect.

"Don't push yourself too hard, now. Recovery from these types of things can take awhile. Full recovery, that is. You might be dealing with pain and occasional headaches for weeks." The doctor warned. Panic was evident as Kyo looked at the doctor.

"I can't be here for weeks. I'm supposed to get married in a month."

"Oh no, Mr. Sohma. Don't worry. We will keep you in observation for a day or so, then release you with some painkillers. We wouldn't want to keep you exposed to hospital germs for longer than necessary."

"I'll make arrangements for an ultrasound to be done before you leave. I'm sure you are both eager to hear your child's heartbeat." Hatori stated, a soft and subtle smile teasing his lips.

Tohru smiled, her face lighting up for the first time since Kyo woke up. Kyo couldn't help but smile in return, resting his eyes on her flat stomach. A heartbeat? Already?

"We will leave you two alone for now. Unfortunately, visiting hours end in about thirty minutes. We will be back then." With a bow, the three left the room.

Kyo's wide eyes began to slowly climb from her stomach, up to her breasts, across her collarbone, and then finally rested on her flushed face.

"Kyo? A-are you feeling okay?" Tohru asked, following the path of his eyes.

He seemed to process her words slowly, before grinning. With a swift tug, she landed in his arms with a less than graceful thud. Quickly grabbing her face in his hands, he guided her mouth to his, feeling compelled to be closer to her.

Her eyes remained wide in shock as he devoured her lips with fervor. Despite the smell of saline and alcohol surrounding them, Tohru began to feel a familiar desire pooling deep in her stomach. She allowed her hands to snake up his chest and around his neck, carefully avoiding the bandages on his head. She moved to straddle his lap, making for a less awkward position for kissing.

A deep groan left his throat, showing his approval for the friction she brought to his lap. She deepened their kiss, arching her back and slowly pushing her chest against his.

Once his hands slid down to her hips, the monitor beside them began to sound with alarm. They broke their kiss, both blushing with the embarrassing interruption.

"Damn monitor.." Kyo scowled.

She gave him a bashful smile before climbing off of his lap. Hearing a soft knock on the door caused Kyo to quickly cover up the evidence of his arousal with the tray table provided.

"Come in." He grumbled. Shigure poked his head around the door before entering.

"I heard the nurses talking about your heart rate monitor. Their theories seemed to suggest that I might be interrupting something if I were to enter without permission." He gave the pair a knowing smirk before sitting down beside Tohru.

"Knock it off." Kyo snapped, his face heating up at his accusation.

"I apologize, I can't help myself. I heard you were awake and I wanted to pay you a visit while it's still permitted. How are you feeling?" Shigures voice took on an unexpected tone of sincerity. Kyo scratched at the back of his neck, avoiding his gaze.

"Yea, I'm good. Better." Tohru gave his other hand a gentle squeeze. "Hey.. Uh, thank you. For finding me."

Shigures eyes widened, soon being replaced by a genuine and warm smile.

"Of course. I couldn't let you die. You two have a baby and wedding to look forward to. Speaking of, I sent out the email we discussed. The news seems to have been well received. Ayame has already started drawing up sketches of Tohru's wedding dress." He chuckled, nodding to Tohru. "Would you like a ride home, dear?"

"Oh, yes please. I came with Hatori this morning. Um, could you just give me a minute to say goodbye?"

Shigure nodded gracefully, before placing a hand on Kyo's shoulder.

"I'm glad to see you are feeling better. It's good to see some color on your face again. Call me if you need anything."

"Yea, I will."

With a nod, Shigure left the room, slowly closing the door behind him.

Tohru stood, moving to embrace her fiance in a warm hug. He accepted it gratefully, slowly feeling the heaviness of the medication drowning his body in fatigue. He moved a stray tendril of hair from her face as she began to pull away.

"Are you by yourself at home?" He asked with furrowed brows, showing his concern.

"Yes, but I'm okay. Shigure offered for me to stay at his house until you got home, but I have been fine on my own. Besides, I have a wedding to plan." She smiled a large and carefree smile, gently pressing one hand against his cheek.

"Okay. If you say so. But promise me you will call them if you start feeling dizzy or anything. I'm worried about you and the baby."

"I promise." She placed a chaste kiss on his lips before touching her forehead to his. "I will see you tomorrow. And.. then we can see our baby. Just please.. get better so I can sleep beside you again. I miss you. I.. I love you."

After a moment of silence, she opened her eyes to see that Kyo had fallen fast asleep, his deep and even breath fanning her face. She giggled, covering him up with the hospital blanket.

"Say goodnight to daddy." She whispered to her belly, before shutting off the light and closing the door.
