To say all were a bit surprised at Robin's sudden proposal would be an understatement; yet they couldn't feel happier. Enrico felt Regina was reluctant. She eyed her lover with such longing and confusion at the same time, he couldn't help feeling that the couple would need to talk about the situation. He thought that maybe it was all a joke, that Robin meant to tease him, but his serious expression and stance told different tales. He was damn serious!

Enrico, patiently and wisely, let the couple in the house and asked the children to go check on the herd. He busied himself in the kitchen while Regina and Robin, head to the living room. They had a lot to discuss. She removed her trench coat and hung it on the back of a chair. Silently, she took the room in. It was just as she left it, her mother's bric-à-brac still on the mantle of the fireplace, one of her father's hunting trophies still stared suspiciously at her from its high place on the wall. She went back in time for a moment. She was returned to her timeline by a few out-of-place, scattered toys and books which no doubt belonged to Henry and Roland.

"Robin, are you out of your mind?" she asked, her voice composed and calm, turning slowly towards him.

"I think I was starting to be. I missed you a lot, Milady. Now, I am all better", he smiled, running his hands through her crossed arms.

"Robin, please, be serious! You just proposed to me in front of my father! For an Italian man, that is very serious!"

"I'm serious, Regina!"

"We barely have had any time together! And our children! They saw it, they heard it. I don't know about Roland, but I am sure as Hell, Henry understood every single word! He should be perfectly fluent by now. What will this look like to them? It's not just us!"

"For once in my life, I'm being selfish."

"I'm afraid this is not the best time to be selfish, Ladrone. This is a messy and complicated situation you're getting yourself into!"

"But for the best reasons."

"And what if it turns out that is not enough? That you decide that I'm not enough? That we can't really-"

"We'll deal with it"

"How?"

"Darling, no offense, but I should think that a criminal mastermind as yourself would have enough creativity in her to come up with a solution for most problems."

"Let me tell you, most problems I had to deal with were solved with a Chicago typewriter. There's nothing creative about it! Just messy and I can't afford to be messy when Henry and Roland are concerned. Not to mention I'm not exactly wife material. You know what happened to my previous husband."

"Regina, we are what we are, we have faced enough tragedies and probations in our past. All I'm trying to say, whatever we must face together, we'll face together as partners in crime from now on."

Regina smiled, worry leaving her eyes for a second.

"Don't you mean, husband and wife? We are not exactly pulling a Bonny and Clyde move here!"

"Yes, I was taking a more liberal approach, so to speak." he chuckled.

"Oh, no! Nothing liberal about it, Mister; you tie the knot, you'll be tied to me forever!" she protested.

"So… is that a yes?"

"I must warn you, Robin; I'm difficult, I like things done in a particular way, I have specific rules for specific things. I'm the head of a major crime family. If we stay in the same boat, your life will never be the same. You'll become a permanent part of it, for better or for worse."

"Good!"

"I don't think you understand what that means."

"It means I'll be able to have a life with the woman I absolutely adore and worship, give my son someone he can call a mother and hopefully be the father figure your son needs and deserves. It's a win-win situation, wouldn't you say so?"

By now Regina had tears in her eyes, and Robin could see she was feeling relieved, the weight from her shoulders disappearing almost completely.

"Well, I'll be damned…" she exclaimed, her voice trembling.

"What is it, Milady?"

Robin took her face into his hands and softly raised it so they could look into each other's eyes.

"I guess that's an offer I don't think I can refuse."

"In that case, let me give my wife-to-be a proper welcome snog!"

They both chuckled, joining their foreheads for a moment. Robin's thumb ran through Regina's cheek and dried the tears of joy falling from her chocolate brown eyes. He then kissed her soft hair and finally, latched on her sweet lips. He held on to her for several minutes, his lips never leaving hers.

She accepted. Regina was to be his wife. He was to spend the rest of his life with her and he couldn't be happier. They parted remaining close to each other.

"We have to talk to the children", she said looking almost shy.

"I think your father comes first in our list."

"I suppose", she humored "You're going to watch the Sicilian concerned father act"

"Should I expect a lupara in this act of his?"

"I'd stay two."

"Not even fifty could keep me from you at his point, Milady. Come on! Let's face the music and dance."

And so, they left the living room, his arm around her back and hers around his waist, side by side towards the kitchen. There they stood waiting for Enrico to finish pouring three drinks into clear glasses. The old man signed them to sit at the dinner table. He put two glasses in front of his daughter and future son-in-law. After that, he sat and drank his glass in one big gulp. He put the glass back on the table and readied himself to speak.

"So, have you come to a consensus?"

His daughter's smile said it all, but he still wanted confirmation.

"We have, Signore Molina" Robin stated, taking Regina's hand into his.

"I expect you'll honor her and her son, protect them both, provide for them and respect them."

"That is my vow, yes."

"Good. So, you will you get married in Italy…"

"We haven't- "

"That wasn't a question, my son."

Regina smiled at her father's half serious expression.

"Daddy…"

"I want to give my daughter away to the man she loves. I don't think you are cruel to the point of taking that privilege away from me, true?" the old man continued.

"Of course, not!"

Enrico paused and looked guilty.

"I'm afraid the celebration will be a very modest one -"

"It will be just the five of us, Daddy" Regina said, knowing her father was embarrassed for his lack of resources.

"We can celebrate here in the farm, put a table outside, I'm sure the children will help with the decoration to make it a bit more like a party", Robin offered.

"What about the dress? And the church? And the honeymoon?"

"I can make my own dress."

"We can get married in the chapel by the sea, it's cozy enough for our family. And the…how do you say it? The honeymoon will have to wait for now. We have more important matters" said Robin as a matter of fact.

"Above all, it should be discrete not to compromise our safety. God know how many deals I had to pull just to be able to enter the country."

Robin nodded in agreement.

"All in all, we need but a priest and a date. But before that, there's the matter of the children. We still have talk to them. It wouldn't be right to plan this whole thing without them."

"Of course! Regardless…you have my blessing. May you be very happy together." Enrico got up from his chair and went to kiss his daughter's cheek and shake Robin's hand. "I'll let the children know you want to talk to them", the old man informed them as he was leaving the house to go in search of the two boys who had been by the sheep the whole time.

Roland and Henry entered the house followed by Enrico.

"Andiamo, ragazzi! Mama e papà hanno qualcosa importante da dire!", said Enrico, his hands on both children's shoulders in a comforting gesture.

Both boys chose their respective parents lap to receive the important information.

"Henry, did you understand what Robin said earlier?"

"Yeah, I guess… He said he wanted to marry you."

Roland giggled, his childish innocence transpiring.

"And do you know what it means?"

"It means we would all be a family, that Roland would be my little brother and Robin would be my stepdad."

"And we'll all live together?" Roland asked.

"Yes" the couple answered at the same time.

"What do you boys think of that?"

Roland shrugged displaying a toothy grin.

"What about Grandpa?" Henry asked, having grown used to the old man's presence in his life.

"He'll live with us too, of course!" Regina reassure her son.

"Are we going to stay here?"

"For a time, yes. Then we'll go back to America."

"I like it here! All the baby animals and the beach…" said Roland smiling.

"Do you, sweetheart?"

"Yes!" the child nodded.

"Henry, are you alright with this?"

Regina really needed assurance from her boy.

"Well, yeah! Roland is my best friend; Robin teaches me lots of stuff… And he likes you very much. Why not?!" Henry smiled. Relief washed over Regina's features and Robin noticed. He could tell she had been nervous about the boys' reaction, more than talking to her own father. Roland slipped from Robin's lap and found a spot to sit on Regina's leg. Then, put his little arms around her neck just to receive a rain of kisses on his chubby cheeks.

"I missed you both so much" she blurted out, little sobs coming along uninvited.

"We missed you too, mom."

That evening, when the moon was already high in the sky and tummies were filled with delicious pasta cooked by motherly hands, the children were getting ready for a story and bed. Supervised by Robin, the boys put their pajamas on and brushed their teeth.

Regina helped by her father was drying the last dishes from diner while news echoed through the old radio set Enrico still had from his more youthful years. Two voices called her upstairs and demanded a story. She ran upstairs to the room which once belonged to her to find her two cherubic boys carefully tucked, eyes droopy with sleep and ears ready for whatever story she could invoke. She chose the Puss in Boots, her favorite when a child and the one she could tell by heart. She had not yet finished the story when Henry and Roland fell asleep. She kissed them both and covered them better. Leaving the room, she closed the door behind her and went to Robin.

"They are out like lights"

"I should go too. I'm feeling rather tired. Too much excitement for one day" said Enrico. He kissed his daughter goodnight, wished Robin a good rest and left to his own room.

"And now I have you all to myself", Robin said, embracing Regina. "How are you feeling?"

"Home, I'm feeling home."

"I'm glad to hear it, let us sit and talk. I want to know how everyone is fairing back in New York, why you're here."

"Things are a mess, actually" she smiled sadly. She didn't have many good news. "I came to fetch you and the children, to see my father again…to escape for a while."

"Escape? Is it that serious?"

"Other families are overpowering us; they managed to weaken our forces recently."

"How so?"

"They killed Malva"

Robin was shocked.

"Malva is dead?"

"They ambushed her on a highway toll and shot her."

"I'm so sorry, Regina. I know how much she meant to you."

"I hope she found peace, wherever she is now. In the past, we were demons, but she had a reason to be. She had gone through Hell. And most of it was my fault. My thirst for blood, for power pushed her towards the path she threaded. Because for me, love was weakness."

"And she was yours."

"One of them, yes."

"She told me a bit of your story. Not the details, I don't need them, but…I know, well, I think, that she was happy with whatever you gave her."

"She was my lover when I was married to Leopold. She was his secretary. We used to spend a lot of time alone while he met with his associates. I didn't have much freedom or many people to talk to. Aibileen was confined to the kitchen; the racist bastard didn't want her galivanting around the house much; didn't want his wife to have any kind of positive relationship with the help. Turns out the chauvinist fool was not that fond of women unless they warmed his bed. So Mal was usually left out of the meetings and received the short version afterwards. We began having tea and talk at first. We bond over the hate we shared for Leopold and the spoiled pest he had for a daughter. There was attraction, I don't know how to explain. I thought she was a magnificent and intriguing woman, a temptress. I was still naïve, didn't know how to act on my feelings, raised a catholic and all, it seemed forbidden, wrong… But with Mal, everything felt right. I divorced by poisoning; Leopold's body had barely touched the ground I was already in Malva's arms. Our first kiss. After that day, after that first taste of power, there was not stopping me. Malva had put the crown on my head, framed someone else for Leopold's passing, got rid of his most loyal men and gathered new people to join us. She knew people, very powerful people. After that, we slowly fell apart. We remained friends for both of our sakes. I was still establishing myself as leader of the clan when our relationship took the biggest blow. The coup de grâce was mostly my fault. I neglected her. So we parted, she went her way, messed with the wrong people, got pregnant, got caught in drugs, lost her little girl because of them. It tore her apart. Meanwhile, Henry had come to my life. I was a single mother, needed to think about his needs. That's when I let love in again. And it felt good. It was not based on anger or hatred. It was simple, unadulterated love and, God, did I need it? With Henry I felt like I finally had done something right."

"That's quite the story"

"You disapprove?"

"Not at all. I think it's rather extraordinary."

"You don' think – "

"Malva will be missed. She was very kind to me, and she loved you very much. Those two reasons alone are enough for me to respect her. In the end, she was happy that you had found me for the right reasons. It was all about timing."

She smiled sadly.

"Indeed."

"I hope that knowing this will bring you some comfort."

"A little, yes."

"Have my men been helping you?"

"Very, John has taken over Malva's part of the business. His brute force is…adequate."

"No!" Robin was surprised at the revelation.

"He's good at it. Who would have thought that man would be a good capo?"

"Capo? By God, Milady!

"He trusts you, and he believes that we can better our territory. John has been given some very good contributes, intel wise and more. Unfortunately, with the war and a personal revenge of mine left us unprotected and unable to continue our work as before. But with you by my side now, I think we can return to our former glory."

"Why return to the past when we can build something new, my darling?"

"What do you have in mind?"

"I think it's time to put my Robin Hood syndrome to good use." Regina couldn't help but laugh at this. "But enough business. Let us enjoy the present. We'll be married soon. We'll be living here for a while, give you time to breathe, reconnect with your father, with the village that saw you grown up, form new ideas, allow yourself to be happy for a while."

"You're right."

"I love you, Regina."

"I love you too, Robin."

"You must be tired. We shall talk some more tomorrow. Join our children, I'll sleep here tonight, keep your honor intact."

Robin's observation had earned him a chuckle and a goodnight kiss from his bride.

He saw her going upstairs to join their sons. As soon as she rested her head on the pillow next to her boys, dreams of tomorrow took over. Yet, before slipping away into Morpheus arms, she still had the time to feel her two little princes nested against her warm body for protection and comfort. Yes, that was what true love and magic felt like.

So how did I do? :D
