Edward came awake just before sunrise. His arm hooked around Bella's slender waist and drew her sleeping form up against him. He wasn't sure what it was about this woman, but whenever she was close at hand, he was hard as a rock. Grinding his erection into the soft curve of her buttocks, he groaned, burying his nose in her hair.
Breathing her in deeply, his hand slid over her ribs, roughly cupping her breasts. Rolling her nipple between his forefinger and thumb, he nuzzled the back of her neck, pushing her hair to the side with his chin. When her nape was exposed, his mouth latched onto the tender skin, biting her, he grinned when she came awake with a moan on her lips.
Bella's entire body was one throbbing muscle of arousal. Eagerly, she reached for him, her fingernails digging into his side as his hips rolled. Feeling the hard press of his ready cock against her buttocks, she wiggled with anticipation, her neck bowing, giving him access to the skin he tasted.
When his hand released her breast and floated down her abdomen, she arched into him, her legs spreading as his fingers slid into her panties. Edward played with her clit, rolling the swollen nub, encouraging her cries of want and satisfaction. A searching finger slipped into her wet slit, bringing the moisture with him, he circled her blossoming nub, heightening the sensations overtaking her.
Bella turned her head, taking his mouth in a passionate kiss, thrusting up into his hand. She swirled her tongue around his as two fingers entered her body, his open palm rubbing into her clit. The friction, coupled with the penetration of his fingers, sent white-hot need spiraling throughout her limbs, leaving her bones melting within her arms and legs. She broke the kiss, her breath coming hot and fast.
"Condom, Bella." Blindly, Bella reached for the nightstand, glee filling her when she encountered the foil wrapper. Ripping the foil open with her teeth, she slipped the lubed circle from the package and handed it to Edward.
Once the condom was in place, Edward settled his narrow hips between her legs from behind. With a light tap on her hip, his hot breath was against her ear when he whispered, "Roll over, Bella, onto your stomach."
The tips of Edward's fingers hooked into her panties, drawing the silk to the side as he found her entrance and thrust into her warm depths. Instantly, her inner muscles clenched around him, sucking his cock deeper. Her spine arched with the impact of his thrusts, her hips lifting off the bed as she pressed back into him, relishing the feel of his hard body over hers. His fingers latched onto her rounded hip, and with a tug, he urged her up onto her knees, his thighs pushing hers further apart.
He pounded into her fast and hard. Bella could feel the bruising force of his fingers as he gripped her hips and pulled her back into his bucking pelvis. She moaned when his hand slipped around her body, his hand cupping her breasts, his chest nestling into her naked back. As his cock hit her g-spot, Bella's necked arched with a cry. "Oh… right there, Edward. Oh…please."
"You feel so fucking good, Bella. So wet…so tight. Holy fuck." Edward felt his balls drawing tight as he slammed into her from behind. Cursing the panties in his way, he ripped them away with a chuckle. Breathlessly saying, "I'll buy you more…fuck."
The sound of the headboard and slapping wet skin filled the bedroom. Bella felt a drop of sweat fall from Edward, landing on her ass and rolling down her cheek. When his fingers reached for her clit and played with the nub, fireworks shot behind her tightly closed eyelids. "Edward, that feels so good. Keep doing that. I'm so, so close."
His teeth nipped down her spine, licking the ripple of her vertebra as he did as she requested. Pushing harder and deeper, he used the flat of his palm, urging her upper body down. His cock swelled as the position changed, Bella's channel gripping him like a vice, his crown feeling as if it would burst. "Come for me now, baby. Come now. I can't…"
He was seconds away from exploding when the pillows muffled Bella's cry of release. Roughly, all gentleness gone, he slammed into her as his bliss grew nearer. With one final thrust, Edward's head fell back on his shoulders, and a roar echoed throughout the room.
Edward collapsed on top of her as he regained his breath. Shifting his weight to keep from crushing her, he fell to the side. "That was so fucking hot."
Even while she lay there, depleted the hum of desire never waned from her fevered loins. Boldly, she reached for him. "Let's do that again."
Bella rolled away from Edward, flopping back against the pillows, her breath coming fast and harsh sometime later that morning. Wiping the sweat from her brow, she snuggled into his shoulder, placing a soft kiss against his damp skin. "You're going to be an uncle. Are you excited?"
"It'll be nice having a kid running around. I know Rose is excited. She's been wanting a kid forever." Edward tucked a curl of Bella's hair behind her ear as he moved closer to her chuckling. "Of course, it's going to be weird seeing Emmett as a dad. Half the time, he has the mentality of a child anyway, so he should fit right in."
"He's definitely a character," she agreed, tucking the sheet around her waist as she pulled upright. "Your family has such great dynamics. They are all utterly amazing."
When she would have scooted to the edge of the mattress, Edward's arm stole around her, holding her in place. Nipping at her shoulder, he murmured, "Where do you think you're going?"
"Well, after I take a shower, I was going to go to the barn. A ride sounds fun, and I haven't seen Xena in some time." Bella reached behind her, combing her fingers through Edward's tangled hair. "I've worn you out enough."
"Hey, babe, I'm always up for a ride." He laughed when Bella's firm hand pushed against his chest, effectively pinning him to the bed.
"We just did that," she laughed, rolling her eyes. "We have to get out of this bed sometime. Plus, I need to stretch my legs."
"Need any help?" His question was laced with a suggestion, emphasized when he wiggled his eyebrows.
Bella grabbed the pillow from the head of the bed and gave him a swat. Climbing from the bed, she collected some clothes from the drawer he'd provided for her things and turned for the bathroom. "You're very funny, Mr. Cullen."
"Fine," he groaned, flopping back into the bed with a wide grin. "I should probably do some work today. My deadline is fast approaching."
After showering, Bella dressed and brushed out her hair. Combing the strands into a ponytail, she opened the bathroom door to find the bed empty. When she stepped into Edward's study, he was already seated behind his desk, his eyes locked on the monitor, his fingers running over the keyboard with enthusiasm. Wandering to his desk, she moved up behind him, her fingers feathering along his temples until his head tipped back. Bella stared into his eyes before dropping a kiss to his forehead. "I'll be back in a few hours. If my phone rings, can you answer it? I'm expecting a call from the bank."
"Sure." Scooting back in his chair, Edward pulled her around to the front of him, urging her into his lap. He kissed her long and hard, his fingers curling into her hip when he dropped a final peck on her chin. "Have fun. Give Xena a swat for me."
"Will do." Bella sat her phone on Edward's desk. "I'll be back later."
Bella headed down into the kitchen, grabbing an apple from the fruit bowl, she took a bite. Chewing her mouthful, she unlocked the sliding door and headed out onto the deck, her head falling back to absorb the warmth of the sun on her cheeks.
It was a beautiful day to be out riding. With that thought, she jogged down the steps and onto the path leading to the barn. Her gaze scanned the forest around her, her arms lifting to knock down a spiderweb as it glistened beneath the sun, mumbling an apology to the hidden insect. A bird overhead rustled in the leaves, drawing her attention in his direction, she watched the robin hop down a branch, his head tipping as he watched her.
She was midway between the barn and house when an odd sensation coursed down her spine. Nervously, she glanced over her shoulder toward the house. Seeing nothing suspicious, she continued down the path, her gaze sweeping through the surrounding trees. Even while nothing appeared out of the ordinary, Bella's nerves were on edge all of a sudden. Uneasily, she chewed at her bottom lip, the apple in her hand, forgotten as the hair on the back of her neck stood on end.
The forest seemed to go quiet as if all the critters watched with anticipation. A squirrel sat perched on a branch twitching his tail, his beady eyes locked on Bella. Fear, unlike anything she'd ever felt before constricted her chest and gooseflesh raced down her arms. Once again, the feeling of being watched gripped her, causing her breath to freeze in her lungs. Senses on high alert, she considered turning back toward the house. Deciding she was just feeling a bit paranoid, she continued down the path.
Just when her fear started to ease something to her right scampered through the brush. Bella's head jerked in that direction yet saw nothing worth noting. Still, her mouth went dry, and her muscles tensed. Her sharp teeth bit her bottom lip so hard, and she tasted the coppery essence of blood. Instantly, her skin felt damp with perspiration. Her nerve endings prickled as something to her left went scurrying across the forest floor.
That was the last straw. She pivoted on her heel; Bella's stride turned brisk as she hurried toward the house that was nearly out of sight. As she did so, something before her dashed toward her, the bushes moving with an unforeseen presence. The apple she now held in a death grip dropped to her fingers, and with a screech, she darted toward the barn. She was fifteen feet from the structure when a movement to her left caught her attention. A flash of red curls billowing behind the woman was the only glimpse she was afforded.
Her heart stammered in her chest before stuttering to a stop. Bella could feel the color draining from her face as terror lanced through her. She was almost to the barn when Laurent stepped out into the path, effectively blocking her route. This time a scream ripped from her throat as she dashed to her right, branches scratching her face and neck as she ran off the path. She didn't spare a glance over her shoulder, hearing the sound of their feet crunching over fallen limbs and leaves, alerting her to their whereabouts.
They were right behind her. They were right behind her. What the hell was she supposed to do? Run. Run. Run. The word chanted over and over in her head, even as she yelled. "Edward."
Bella was too far away from the house to attempt to head in that direction. Her only hope was trying to circle around to the barn. Running for all she was worth, her thighs burned with the exercise, her calves starting to ache. The skin on her arms and face were beginning to sting as limbs smacked into her, leaving scratches and gouges in her tender flesh.
"Come on, mouse, let's play." The words came to her on a breeze. Momentarily, she had to wonder if she were imagining the accented voice. A quick look over her shoulder renewed her vigor as she met devilish black eyes. Stumbling on a root, she nearly went down on her knees, yet managed to stay on her feet.
Her only comfort was Laurent was still twenty feet or so behind her. Acting fast, she made a sharp right in the direction of the barn. Running with all her might, she spotted the brown wooded structure off through the trees as she drew closer. Chancing another look behind her, she was surprised to find no one there.
Where had they gone? Were they circling in front of her? A zillion possibilities ran through her mind, yet she was at an utter loss. Should she continue to the barn, or should she go back to the house?
With her breath growing short, her only option was to make it to the barn, in hopes of a quick rest. With a final push of adrenaline, Bella made it to the door. As quietly as she could, she pulled the door open, wincing when the hinges creaked. When she slipped into the darkened aisle, she breathed a mild sigh of relief as she crept over the hardpacked dirt. Horses shuffled in their stalls, a few sticking their heads out their doors. As they spotted her, they whickered a greeting, heads bobbing and reaching toward her.
She was halfway down the aisle when she heard the door at the other end creak open. Someone hit the light switch, casting the walkway in a soft yellow glow. Darting toward the shadows, she stayed close to the stalls until she came to the corner. If Bella turned, she'd be in Diablo's aisle. Doing so, however, put her in as significant amount of risk as the intruders did. Spotting a door adjacent to her, she assumed the tack for Diablo would be inside. Maybe she could find some sort of weapon in there, she thought.
Tiptoeing across the aisle, her hand settled on the doorknob as Victoria's voice reached her ears. "Mouse, come out, come out, wherever you are."
Her pulse stuttered as she turned the knob and ran inside. When the door was firmly closed behind her, she blindly felt around the tiny room, her fingers brushing what she assumed was a grooming kit. Reaching inside, she encountered several brushes, a mane comb, and a hoof pick.
A hoof pick. That could work, right? It was sharp and the only weapon she was likely to find. Wishing the damn thing were longer, her fingers curled around the plastic handle, her knuckles turning white as her grip tightened. Taking a deep breath in preparation, she returned to the door and eased back into the barn.
Terror wrapped its tight hold around her throat when she heard the thud of booted feet coming in her direction. Diablo shuffled uneasily in his stall, his massive, black head appearing over his door.
Bella had a choice. She could take her chances with the threat before her, or behind her. With her apparent options, Diablo seemed a lot less intimidating, and as her pulse tripped with the appending danger, she turned in his direction.
Edward leaned back from the computer monitor. Stretching his fingers, he wiggled them several times to relieve the stiffness from his cramped knuckles. He'd only been working for a half an hour, but without Bella here, it felt like forever. Blowing a deep contented sigh, he turned to look out the window overlooking the path to the barn.
Bella was probably already tacked up and riding. What are the chances he could catch up to her? No, no. He needed to stay here and do his work before his agent started calling nonstop for his next manuscript. With that thought in mind, he returned his attention to the monitor, his finger settling over the keys.
Just when he would have started typing, the sound of a scream reached his ears. Startled by the unexpected noise, his head whipped around on his shoulders toward the window. He scanned the forest below. His brow wrinkled as Edward listened intently. When he didn't immediately hear anything, he started to relax, yet as he scanned the woods, nausea filled his stomach.
Something wasn't right. Glancing at Bella's phone on his desk, he cursed. "Shit."
He couldn't even call to check on her. Smacking his open palm onto the desktop, he started to rise, his fingers using the mouse to click on the security system he had on the barn. Instantly, several squares popped up, aimed at different locations in and around the barn. With his heart in his throat, his teeth gritted as he saw Bella creeping down an aisle. His gaze shot in the direction of the threat she faced just in time to see Laurent opening the barn door and slipping inside.
Edward ripped open the top drawer of his desk and located the handgun he kept tucked in the back. Pulling the 9mm free, he popped the clip out, checking the bullets, he shoved the clip back inside and darted for the staircase. "Emmett!"
In seconds, he was down the steps and out the back door. Without hesitation, he ran for all he was worth. There'd been a time when facing his adversaries was the scariest concept he could fathom, yet at this moment, with Bella at stake, nothing could stop him.
He had just reached the end of the path when he spotted Victoria's mane disappearing inside the barn. Holding the gun close to his side, he kept his finger poised over the trigger as he hollered in the direction of the house. "Emmett!"
Edward wasn't sure where Emmett was. Hell, he didn't even know if his brother was home. The thought of facing the monsters of his past had him suddenly needing his brother.
He reached the barn door and gently pulled it open. Cautiously, he peered inside, seeing nothing in the opening, he dashed into the dimly lit walkway. Easing down the aisle, he saw the villains of his nightmares turn the corner, Diablo's protesting screeches echoing throughout the barn.
