EVERYTHING ELSE YOU CAN STEAL

(This was never one of my favorite episodes, although it has some humorous writing and I think Jenny could have merited her own episode. Jenny refers to the last letter she received from her son. This bis that letter).

Blackjack Jenny met with Heyes and Curry in their hotel room the evening after they had arrived in Touchstone, New Mexico. She was a mother distraught. A mother as yet unwilling to believe that her beloved son Billy, and his friend Caleb were dead. A mother who clung desperately to the tiniest thread of hope. She tells them that Billy and Caleb would never have been able to open a safe using the combination method, that they simply could not have been the one's who robbed the bank. During his travels, Billy had always faithfully kept in touch with her. Writing once, sometimes twice every week. Faithfully.

Jenny then reached into her more than ample bosom and withdrew a folded, sweat-withered envelope containing the last letter she had received from her cherished son. She looked at the envelope with sad, mournful eyes and slowly handed it to Heyes.

Heyes opened the letter and read it softly, aloud.

Dear, sweet, Mother,

Caleb and I arrived in Touchstone three days past and have already found employment, a short term job that requires very little and promises good financial return. Our employer is wealthy in the field of finances, an upstanding citizen, so there is little doubt our wages are secure. Who knows, Mother, perhaps one day Caleb and I really will own that cattle ranch we have always dreams of. I do hope to make you so very proud of us one day. My next letter will include a few dollars to help ease the burdens I know you bare.

Never doubt my love and devotion to you, my dear mother. Trust that Caleb and I are well and that I will continue to write you faithfully.

Your devoted son,

Billy
