What came out of the portal was the first/last thing Stan was expecting.
First, the figure who fell backward out of the portal was a child. A young boy, one that looked like he could be Dipper II. Stan originally thought that Ford had been shrunk, or that it was a trick of the light, or maybe something was wrong with Stan's eyes, but then the kid got to his feet and dashed over to the portal's shut down switch, and jammed his fist down on the red button.
The kid breathed a huge sigh of relief, and, still holding onto the button's shaft, let his knees give way. His hands were fists above his head, and he breathed heavily against the metal he was holding onto. A loud buzz echoed through the room, something that Stan was happy he hadn't heard earlier. The portal behind the kid turned all the way off, but the damage was done to the structure. It creaked, groaned, and slid off to the side, barely on its stand.
The kid was breathing hard, Stan was breathing hard, Mabel and Soos were breathing hard, and Dipper... Dipper asked quietly, "Who is that?"
"The Author of the Journals..." Stan answered, watching the newest occupant of the room get to his feet and stumble forward. "My brother." The figure kept stumbling, and he noticed Dipper.
"Stan!" he cried out, and he didn't exactly have Ford's voice. At least, not the voice Ford had had last time Stan had seen him. It sounded Fordish, but it wasn't the deep voice Stan was expecting. And another thing was, that he seemed to be addressing Dipper and not the actual Stan. "Stanley! Are you okay?" He dashed forward and came to a screeching halt about five feet away from Stan and the others. "Stanley..? What?"
He blinked at Dipper, then Stan, then Mabel, then Soos. "I... What just happened?" The kid, and it was a kid, ran a hand through his longish brown hair. His brown jacket (boy did that bring memories back) was torn in a couple of places, and his blue eyes were widening with every second he stood there. "Where am I? Where's Stanley? Where's Great aunt..." He drifted off, and Stan said quietly, "Ford?"
The kid nodded. "Yeah. I'm Stanford Pines. Who are you?" He looked up into Stan's eyes, and he took a small step back when Stan took one forward.
"It... It's me Ford." Stan said, holding his arms out. Ford didn't seem to be convinced. "And which me are you?" he asked, grinding his teeth slightly. His lips were chapped, and his eyes were tired. Stan lowered his arms ever so slightly, and answered, "Stanley."
At that, Ford went rigid. He simply stared at Stan, then he glanced back at the portal. His hands clenched and unclenched by his sides, then he whispered, "I went through the portal, didn't I?"
Stan nodded, and Ford's eyes widened. His mouth opened, and his hands stopped moving. Tears began to build up in Ford's eyes, and he said, "So that means... I lost so much time... And you got me back?"
Stan nodded again, and Ford lifted his shoulders, then dropped them as a sigh escaped him. "Oh... Thank you Stanley!" He dashed forward and wrapped his thin, bony arms around Stan's fleshy middle. Stan didn't exactly know how Ford seemed so young, perhaps something about the other side...
"Wait. That means it's like 2050!" Ford cried out, and Stan jolted a bit. 2050?...
When Ford stepped out of the portal, he saw what he was most/least expecting.
First off, his basement was a complete mess. Second, right as he was going to stoop down to pick up the book he saw in the corner of his eye, someone else grabbed it. Another old man. One that looked exactly like...
"Stanley?" Was Ford's first word one he exited the Multiverse. The man didn't seem to realize that Ford was talking to him, so he stepped forward and tapped the man on the shoulder. The figure spun around, the blue and silver book held tightly in his hands. He scanned Ford up and down, then said, "Who are you?"
"Stanley, now is not the time for games." Ford chastized, taking his mask off. The man glanced at the spaces next to Ford's head, then he said, "Um... Sorry, but, uh... I'm not Stanley. I'm Dipper..."
Ford did his best not to scoff. This man, standing in front of him, who had his brother's face, was telling him that he was 'Dipper'. What in the Multiverse...
"Um... Dipper? I'm sort of here..." 'Dipper' looked to the right, and Ford's eyes followed him a second later. There, at the back of the room was an old woman, next to a young boy and another person. Why was there a woman in Ford's house? What was going on?! "I can't believe that you're actually here!" The woman dashed up to the two of them, and Dipper threw a glare at Ford, as if to say 'You ruin this I ruin you'.
"Mabel!" Dipper cried, not angry but not happy either, "Do you have any idea how-" Dipper took a wrong step, and his foot caught on a loose rock, causing him to get put off balance, and Ford could only watch as his newest doppelganger fell face first and crashed into the hard floor.
Unlike most people, 'Mabel' seemed to think this was the most hilarious thing ever. She clamped her hands over her mouth, but a giggle had already escaped from behind her fingers. She dashed forward as Dipper raised his head slightly, spitting a rock out. "I'm okay." He said, sounding less than okay. Mabel nodded, dropping her hands to her sides and kneeling next to him.
"Perfect first impression Broseph." She said, grabbing his shoulder and trying to drag him up by it. "Arguing with portal person 2, and now this... Oh, I'm sure Ford'll..." She suddenly froze, then she glanced back at the boy who was staring at them from next to the wall. "Where's Ford?"
Ford blinked, how on earth did this random woman know his name? Or want to know where he was? He decided just to roll with whatever was going on and just say, "Present."
Mabel looked up at him and her eyes widened. "F- Fo- Ford?" She stuttered, her mouth widening as she stared at him. She shook Dipper's shoulder and mumbled, "Please tell me I'm dreaming... Not about you Dipper, you're good. Stanley..." She bit her lip, and Dipper finally managed to push himself to his knees and look back at Ford, his eyes full of the same confusion that Ford was feeling.
"Uh... Wait." Ford glanced at the child behind the man and woman, the boy looked eerily familiar. He had longish brown hair that was swept off to the right to make him look 'cool', his shirt was red and white, and he looked almost exactly like... Stanley...
Axolotl, this was an alternate universe... And Ford had just replaced himself.
"What do you mean?" Stan asked after Ford had released him. The boy shrugged and said, "Well, you look like you're in your... fifties... So... That means that it's like 2050. Or are you in your sixties? In that case..." The boy reached into his jacket and pulled out a blue book, one that Stan had never seen before in his life. Ford flipped it open nonchalantly and clicked a pen open as well, starting to write right then and there.
"Uh... I'm in my sixties..." Stan said, and Ford nodded. "But it's 2012. You've been gone for thirty years."
The boy scoffed. "Yeah right. Dude, it was 2012 when I left. It would have to be at least 2042 if it's been thirty years..." he scribbled 'twin is still an idiot' on the top of the page, but Stan didn't pay that any attention. "Look, Ford, don't you remember how you got trapped in there?" Stan asked, folding his arms and watching Ford write. So this is what it would have been like if Stan had lived with Ford before the incident.
"Yeah," Ford said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. He snapped the book shut, which had a pine tree on the side that looked almost identical to Dipper's hat. "Grauntie Mabel restarted this portal, it was going to destroy the world, you were going to push the button, but I got sucked in. Boom, end of my story."
Alright, Stan had many questions. Grauntie Mabel? Portal to destroy the world? It was almost Ford was from an... An... An alternate...
"Uh, Ford," Stan said, trying his best to remain calm. "What do you have there?" Ford's intense eyes met Stan's, and Stan had to force himself not to cower away from this tiny version of his brother.
"What on earth are you talking about Stan? This is the Journal!" Ford held said 'Journal' up towards Stan, displaying the pine tree even more than before. There was just something about Ford's height, how his jacket's sleeves were almost off, and how he was holding the Journal that made him look exactly like Dipper. "When we were thirteen? Remember? I found this Journal in the woods and all our adventures started!"
Yeah, this kid wasn't from here.
"Okay Ford, I know you're probably not going to believe me..." Stan said, placing a hand on the top of the Journal, causing Ford to drop it slowly. "But none of that happened here."
Ford blinked, he scanned Stan's face, as if he was looking for him to say 'Psych!', but Stan gave him the most serious expression he could, and Ford shrank back a little. "It... It didn't?" He asked quietly, and Stan shook his head.
"So we didn't sing Zombies into oblivion?" Stan was really starting to believe that this kid was an alternate Dipper/Ford. He didn't tell him that, but he did say, "Not you and me."
"What about the shapeshifter!?" Ford's eyes were wild, and he flipped the Journal open to somewhere near the middle. "Gnomes! You got kidnapped by Gnomes! Uh..." He began to flip through the pages quickly, like the longer he took to find whatever he was looking for the less Stan would remember. "The Summerween Trickster!" He turned the book around and Stan saw a very similar drawing to the one he'd seen in Dipper's Journal. "You have to remember something!"
"Look, the biggest monster the two of us have fought is the Jersey Devil." Stan said, kneeling in front of his 'brother' and placing a hand on his shoulder. "Does that count as something?" Ford's eyes trailed to his hand, then his face. The boy's expression turned sour, then he hissed, "No. It doesn't. You're not my brother."
Stan nodded sadly. He had figured that one out. "Yeah, I know."
"Wait. Ford? Oh my goodness, you're so old!" The Stan-child dashed up to Ford, and stared up into his eyes. Man they had been short. "You look just like Grandpa Sherman!"
Okay, Ford had met his grandfather... once? but he was pretty sure his name wasn't 'Sherman'. The only Sherman Ford knew was his brother, and he was over a decade younger than him. But this was an alternate universe, so anything could happen!
"Well..." Ford mumbled, rubbing the nape of his neck. Stanley didn't seem to even care that his 'brother' seemed majorly uncomfortable. He began to chatter about 'how awsome this was', and 'just think of all the adult places we can go to now!'. Ford... was pretty sure Stan was the same across the Multiverse.
Stan kept rambling, while those 'Dipper' and 'Mabel' people started arguing in the background. Ford's mind wasn't ready to process whatever was going on, so he just watched Stan ramble to him about... boats and girls or something. "And Fidds'll be soooo confused!" Ford had no idea who 'Fidds' was, but he nodded anyway. Stanley suddenly seemed to have a thought, then he spun around, just in time to see 'Dipper' and 'Mabel' throw their arms up and both shout "Fine! Be that way!"
"Uh, were they arguing the entire time?" Stan asked, and it took Ford a second to realize that he wasn't just talking to thin air. "Pretty much." He answered, and Stan sighed.
"So, uh, what on Earth is going on here!?" Stan shouted, holding his arms out towards the other two old people, who had their backs to each other, and their arms crossed. Mabel looked over at him and said, "Well, your Great uncle here is being a... A..."
"A logical human being Mabel! There's just no way that what you've been talking about is the case."
"I'm telling you, that guy is our nephew!" Mabel said, spinning around and glaring at Dipper, who rolled his eyes. "Come on, you haven't been here for thirty years! I think I know about births in the family more than you!"
Dipper pinched the bridge of his nose and turned to his sister. "Mabel, how in the Multiverse is he even remotely close to thirty? He looks like he's our age!" He held a hand out, indicating Ford, who started feeling very uncomfortable. "So, unless he's from some 'alternate universe' there's no way that he's..."
"I think I'm from an alternate universe," Ford said before Dipper could continue. Stan looked over at him, his mouth hanging open, a look of shock crossing his young features. "I'm Stanford Pines, and I have no idea who you people are." He glanced between Dipper and Mabel, the latter of which bit her lip and stared at him silently.
"Well, that settles it." Dipper said, uncrossing his arms and stepping up to Ford. "I'm Dipper Pines, it appears that you must be from a place where our family tree got a tad bit mixed up." He extended a hand out to Ford, who grasped it firmly, then released it a moment later. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance. Although I am rather curious about what happened to the proper version of me." Ford told Dipper, who shrugged.
Stanley suddenly yelled, "You lost Ford! And got an old wrinkly version?" The boy looked between his aunt, uncle, and the newcomer to the family. Ford, who was pretty sure that Stanley had liked his old-ness just a second before, winced as the boy began to open and shut his mouth rapidly. "What... How are we... Grauntie Mabel..."
The woman sighed, holding a hand up to her forehead. "Nothing makes sense anymore," she muttered, and Ford agreed with her. Then something seemed to click in her mind, and she muttered, "Sweet Sally! I lost Ford! Filbrick's gonna kill me!"
Dipper glanced over at his sister, a confused look on his face. "Filbrick? Who is..."
"But it's okay... We can just restart the portal..." Mabel said, dashing up to Ford and her brother. She glanced between them and said, "You two are smart, you can help me with it! And Dan and Fidds can help and..." her sentence hung in the air as the two older men shared a look, then shook their heads. Dipper grabbed her arm, and said calmly, "Mabel... That can't happen. You see what it's already done to the basement, it will only get worse..."
"Well then! You're just a stupid dumb-dumb!" Mabel shouted, tugging her arm away from her brother. "Our nephew's twelve and is in some weird sci-fi dimension... He's going to get hurt!" She looked at Ford, and she sent him a pleading look. "Come on... You can't just leave you in that place!"
Ford shifted uncomfortably, then said, "Or he ended up in my universe... That is actually the more likely situation."
Mabel grit her teeth together, and she said, "Alright, he ended up in his universe, with a cranky grandpa Stan, and..." A tear built up in her eye, and she squeezed her eyes sht, tilting her face away from everybody else. "And he never even got to meet you Dipper... He never got to meet his hero..."
"Wait. Grauntie Mabel is a kid?!" Young Ford stood in front of Dipper and Mabel, his Journal clutched close to his chest. He adjusted his glasses with his left hand and said, "This is an alternate universe. It just has to be. Whoa..."
Mabel laughed uncomfortably. She fiddled with her left sweater sleeve, her right hand not really finding a comfortable spot. "Um... Does that mean you have a Grunkle Dipper?" She asked, and glanced at her brother, who was just staring at Stan. The older man was just watching the three kids silently, having resigned himself to the background. The very idea of Dipper being a Grunkle was... strange, to say the least.
"What's a Grunkle?" Ford asked, tilting his head. "Is that like a 'great uncle'? We don't have one of those."
The smile Mabel got was the biggest one Dipper had ever seen. She elbowed him in the side and whispered, "Uh oh... Someone's a grandpa..." Ford blinked, then said, "Uh... My grandpa's name is Sherman..."
"No way! Dipper is a Sherman? I thought he was a Mason!" Mabel exclaimed, looking less confident, but still poking her brother, who seemed almost indifferent. "Come on. If I'm your aunt, then Dipper's either your uncle or grandpa... I am your grandpa's twin, right?" She blinked at Ford, who shook his head. "Actually, Grauntie Mabel's like... twenty years older than my grandpa..."
Mabel's smile faded. She glanced at Dipper, then said, "But uh... What happened to Dipper then?"
"He went through the portal," Stan mumbled, catching his niece's attention. Mabel gulped, then said, "What?" Ford spun around and blinked at Stan, who stared directly at the three kids.
"He went through the portal. Mabel shoved him through, and then she tried to get him back... And she got Ford..." Stan repeated, his face limp, his eyes hollow. Mabel chuckled nervously and put an arm around Dipper's shoulders. "But... I... I wouldn't do that to Dipper..." She gulped, and asked, "Right?"
Stan looked down at the ground, he felt like crying, but no tears built up in his eyes. Ford looked confused and uncomfortable, and... young.
"In Ford's universe, we're all switched..." Stan mumbled, his hands curling up into fists. "And if his Mabel has done everything I've done... Then that would mean... His Dipper is the Author of that Journal." Stan lifted his right hand and pointed his finger directly at Ford's book, which the boy looked down at. "Because he's the Author of the Journals..."
Ford's eyes widened, along with Dipper's. The two of them turned to each other, and Ford then said, "You're the Author of the Journals?!" Dipper shook his head, then he pointed at Ford. "You're the Author of the Journals."
"We're the Author of the Journals!" Ford shouted, a smile spreading across his face. One that Dipper instantly matched. "Yeah! We're the Author of the Journals!"
Mabel and Stan shared a look. This would probably go on for a while.
Hello guys! I've come back with another chapter! Yay!
I thought, 'Hey, what if Relativity Falls Ford came through the portal, and canon Ford came out with their Dipper?' and, naturally, I wrote this. Ford and Dipper (kids) will nerd out and talk to each other about how amazing the Journals are, complimenting the older versions of themselves like constantly, while Mabel will be like "I have two bros now!"
"All my stuff in the Author's font! Aah! This is amazing! Also, Graunt- I mean, Mabel, do you know where Fiddleford is?"
Stanley's gonna have a fun time like... watching Ford for the next couple of months, then realizing that he has to keep him all year round... Then the four of them figure out a way to get normal Ford back! Because they don't know the danger of Bill... That is, if they survive Weirdmageddon... Ooh... They're in trouble...
And yes, Grauntie Mabel's gonna be in trouble with Filbrick. But she's an adult, she'll figure it out.
Anyway... Have a great rest of your day! Stay happy, healthy, safe and weird!
