Chapter 42 - The Prank (continued)
"So what do you wanna do?" Dalton asked. "We can get in the car and check at places?" Dalton suggested. Ella wiped her tears and nodded.
"Let's do that! Let's do that!" She said, running for her shoes and car keys. Dalton followed her. They walked out the building and over to Ella's car. Ella started to get in but Dalton stopped her.
"You're not driving, Ella. You're clearly not a great state of mind right now, and I'm sure the last thing Finn would want is us to get into an accident."
She reluctantly nodded and Dalton got into the driver's seat. He knew that they wouldn't find Finn though. If Finn wanted to go missing, they sure as hell wouldn't be able to find him without police help.
Meanwhile, Finn was bored out of his mind. He was currently trying to balance a coin on the tip of his nose, while lying back. He had gotten a lot of voicemails from Ella, Dalton and his mom, so he assumed that Ella had called his family as well. He decided to listen to one of Ella's from 5 minutes ago.
"Hey babe, I'm literally so stressed out. So if this is a prank, or this is a joke, please tell me now because you win. Like you win. Please, PLEASE text me back. Dalton and I are on our way to the skydiving place. Please god tell me you're there." Finn could hear the emotion in her voice, and it physically hurt him to hear his girlfriend so upset.
A few minutes later, Ella and Dalton arrived at the skydiving place. Dalton parked and Ella jumped out of the car. Dalton stayed there and waited for Ella to come back. She ran over to the reception desk, where the familiar receptionist was waiting. She smiled at Ella.
"Hey Ella! Is Finn coming in later today?"
Ella's heart dropped like a thousand feet. "Wait, he never arrived?" She asked. Confusion filled the receptionist's face.
"No, why? Was he supposed to?"
Ella nodded and ran back to the car, bawling. People were looking at her like she was crazy, but she didn't care. The only person who she cared about was either cheating on her, or was in a car accident or something. When she got back into the car, she started sobbing freely. Dalton knew that normally, this would be the time to tell her that this was a prank, but he had just gotten a message from Finn.
Hey Dalton, I feel so bad rn. I'm on my way back to the apartment. Get Ella to come back with you to the apartment.
Dalton knew that the prank was over, so he put a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, Ella, calm down. Let's go back to the apartment, so if Finn comes back, we'll find him. And we can call the cops if you want."
She nodded. They drove quickly back home, and Ella ran up to the building. She sprinted into the apartment, and dropped her purse in surprise…
Finn was there, safe and sound, drinking a cup of coffee. He looked up when they walked in, and smiled.
"Hey babe, how's it going?" He asked. She screamed and hugged him so tightly he thought he would suffocate. She kissed him fiercely and she eventually calmed down and stopped crying. She punched him in the stomach.
"Don't you ever do that to me again, Finn Hudson!" She cried. He laughed.
"I feel so bad. Do you forgive me?" He asked.
"If anything, that stupid prank just made me realise how much I love you, and I can't live without you. Literally everything went through my head. It was like either he's in a car accident, or he's cheating." Finn raised an eyebrow.
"Cheating? You've never gotta worry about that!"
"I know, so I was like he's probably in an accident."
Finn felt so bad for her, and did literally anything she wanted for the rest of the night.
The Next Morning
Ok, so I need to get Finn back!" Ella told Taylor. They were eating breakfast together that morning and were having a girls' day. Taylor smiled.
"What did you have in mind?" She asked. Ella took out her phone.
"I was thinking, what can I do? I was originally gonna pretend I was some random girl and then slide into his Instagram DMs, but after what him and Dalton did yesterday, I need to take it one step further. Finn's first girlfriend, Rachel, has been DMing him a lot, so I am gonna make a fake account and pretend to be her. Basically I'm gonna take the account, and pretend it's a new one, and try and catfish Finn to see if he cheats."
Taylor nodded. "That's a great idea, and I can tell you've put some thought into this one so let's do it."
"Honestly, I'm kinda scared though. I know he wouldn't cheat on me, but that's me trusting him. Like this could be really good, or it could be the end of our relationship. I have faith in my boyfriend though."
"Well, let's find out." Taylor exclaimed.
"Like I don't think he's cheating on him, but things have been a bit weird lately. Like the way this girl messages him and then he'll respond. He's not flirting back because he tells me what he's responding with, but it still makes me feel uncomfortable. I feel like if someone was doing that to me, I would have just been like hey stop flirting with me, but Finn is the kind of person who was like she's not flirting with me, and this girl is just freaking bothering me so I don't know. I'm just sick of having this in my head and I know it's probably just me overthinking it but I actually want to use this and get to the bottom of it so I hope this works out."
"Well, stop stalling and get on with it!" Taylor said. Ella laughed and opened instagram on her phone. She already had followers as it was her old account, and edited the name and profile picture to Rachel. She then opened DMs and sent Finn a message on his private account. Finn created a new account when he became a huge celebrity, but he kept his old one for just his friends and family. She wrote...
Hey, it's Rachel! I made a new account so Ella wouldn't see our messages
Her and Taylor had literally nothing to do, so went to get coffee from a nearby Starbucks. For some reason, Ella had a bad feeling about what was about to happen. They just sat in their car and listened to music as they waited for him to respond. Finally, Finn messaged back.
"I don't wanna open it." Ella said. "I'm literally so scared!"
Taylor put a hand on her friend's. "Ella, this is Finn! He loves you so much. He'd be stupid to try anything. Ella nodded and opened the message.
OMG 😂 She low key got mad when I told her you were trying to hang out with me
Taylor read the message and raised an eyebrow.
"Well, he didn't cheat." She pointed out. Ella was upset. That would have been the perfect opportunity to tell her off. She forced herself to stay calm as she crafted a response.
Well, we won't have to worry about that anymore
She sent the message and her heart was starting to pound. Was there seriously a chance that Finn was cheating on her? He responded a lot quicker this time. Within 5 minutes, she heard a 'ding' sound, notifying her of his response.
Lol right… So did you still want to hangout? I'm free today 😜
Ella's heart dropped like a stone. The love of her life was cheating. Tears welled up in her eyes.
"I don't understand…" She cried. Taylor put a comforting arm around her.
"Well, maybe he's not cheating?" She said. "To be fair, they were close friends in high school. Maybe they wanna hang out as friends?" Taylor didn't sound very convincing though.
"What does he mean by hangout? Like do they hang out? I didn't expect this to go this way at all. I'm not gonna cry. I am gonna figure out what's going on before I jump to any conclusions. But like I said, I had a bad feeling about this and I feel like someone's literally punched me in the stomach." Ella fanned the tears from her eyes and started to craft a response.

Little did she and Taylor know…
A little while earlier
"Yo, Dalton, get over here!" Finn called. Dalton walked over from the other side of the terrace and sat next to him. "I have a feeling Ella and Taylor are trying to prank me! I just have that gut feeling, and I can not let that happen!"
"Why do you say that?" Dalton asked.
"So, this girl I went to high school with, has been DMing me a lot lately to hang out. I don't know if it's bad or what she wants to do but Ella's been getting kind of mad about it and today, all of a sudden, I get a fucking DM from this girl on a 'new' account pretty much saying: hey, I made a new account so your girlfriend doesn't get mad. But I never told her Ella got mad."
Dalton's eyes widened. "YES! That's probably Ella and Taylor catfishing!"
Finn said. "I have an idea of a way we can get them back…"
Back to the present
Ella finally got a reply from him, and when she saw it, she almost passed out. She started wailing and couldn't string two words together. Taylor was worried.
"What did he say?" She asked. Ella showed her the phone, and Taylor read the message…
Let's meet behind Target? I have tinted windows so no one will be able to see us 😉
Taylor tried to comfort her unconsolable friend. Finn was a completely different person to her all of a sudden. If he was keeping this a secret, what else could he be hiding?
"Ella, I know this is hard, but you have to stay in character." Taylor said. Ella nodded and sent her next message…
I don't care who sees 👀
Meanwhile, Finn and Dalton had just driven to Morton Williams and they had gotten out of the car.
"What are we doing here, Finn?" Dalton asked.
"I feel really bad about doing this. They're probably freaking out. Like, if it was me, I'd be so angry I'd probably punch a hole through the wall. Like I'm being soooo flirty with them. So to try and make it up to Ella a bit, Imma get her flowers and a card."
Dalton nodded. "That's a good idea."
They entered the supermarket and Finn spent about 10 minutes picking out flowers and a card. When he was satisfied, they went back to the car, and Finn wrote his message. They then got back on the road.
"Where are we going now?" Dalton asked. He was clueless this whole time.
"I'm gonna go to the spot where I told Rachel I was gonna hook up with her and I'm gonna set the flowers and the card there. I'm just gonna leave them there and then when she shows up, she can read it and honestly just feel dumb for trying to prank me and for believing I was cheating!"
As they were driving, Dalton had a random thought.
"Dude, what if it is actually Rachel? And you're about to hook up with someone who isn't your girlfriend?"
Finn's eyes widened. He took out his phone and turned the camera to face him.
"Hey babe, so Dalton just had this random thought. What if it actually is Rachel and it's not you and I'm actually going to hook up with her right now? So quick disclaimer, babe I am NOT gonna hook up with another girl or cheat on you. So if I do meet up with Rachel, I got this video-proof. Love you."
Finn then went onto Instagram where he crafted his next messages…
Back home, Ella went onto Instagram, and dropped her phone when her and Taylor read his responses.
You're so hot 🔥 I've been wanting to hook up with you for so long. You can't tell Ella though
Ella's vision blurred with tears as she read the message. She felt like her heart had been ripped into two, and then stomped on by an elephant. She decided. She was gonna go and end it with that cheating asshole.
"Want me to drive?" Taylor asked, reading her friend's mind. Ella nodded.
"I got your back, girl. I really overestimated the kind of person Finn is." Taylor said. Ella cried harder and Taylor felt bad. Her friend was about to break up an almost 1 year long relationship, where a proposal was probably on the way. They got into the car and drove to Target. They drove behind the store.
"This looks like the sketchiest thing I've ever seen!" Ella snarled. "He just texted me right now and said that his phone was about to die so he couldn't text me for a while."
"Wow, piece of shit!" Taylor spat.
Finn finally made it to the spot he told her to meet up at, and he left the card and flowers on the ground so that they were visible to her. He then got back into the jeep and him and Dalton drove back to their apartment.
Ella and Taylor parked shortly after, and they got out of the car together. There was no sign of Finn anywhere, and Ella and Taylor were about to leave when something caught Ella's eye. There was a bouquet of flowers and a card lying on the ground. She stormed over to them and Taylor followed her.
"Piece of shit, he even fucking got her flowers!" She screamed. Taylor hugged her friend.
"How do you even know they're from Finn?"
"I know because they are my favourite flowers. He probably just got the same bouquet for her."
Taylor felt so bad for her friend, but curiosity overcame her.
"Well, read the card!" She exclaimed. Ella glared at her and picked up the card. She opened it and read out loud.
Hey babe, this is what you get for trying to prank me! I'm so sorry if you haven't had the best day so far, but all these flowers will hopefully make it better, I just wanted to let you know that I love you so much and I would never do anything to hurt you or ruin our relationship. You make me the happiest man on this planet and I just want you to know that I love you so much.
P.S if you're reading this, I'm probably at your house already so come back home.
Ella almost collapsed in relief. Finn wasn't cheating! Taylor also had tears of joy in her eyes as well and was almost as happy as Ella was. They ran back to the car and sped home.
"I feel like such an idiot right now. Like I feel like I've gone through so many emotions in this video. I came here expecting to break up with him. Like bawl my eyes out, getting a fight. Oh my god. I'm so happy! Today it's been a roller coaster that's for sure." Ella said to her friend. Her friend laughed, and they made it back home moments later. She flew up the stairs and into her apartment. Finn and Dalton were both there, laughing. She ran over to him, and threw herself into his arms. He smiled at her.
"Babe, did you actually think I was gonna cheat on you, you dummy? I would never cheat on you!"
"I'm so happy!" She cried. "I literally went there to break up with you!"
Finn laughed. "I don't blame you. If the roles were reversed, I'd have probably done the same. I've literally been telling Dalton all day, I feel so bad. I love you so much and you are crazy to believe that I would ever ever jeopardize our relationship by going and hooking up with a girl when I'm dating you. You're the love of my life."
Ella finally stopped crying, and Dalton and Taylor gave them some privacy. The harshness of that prank and the backfire effectively put a pause on the prank war, but they knew it wasn't over…
