Joey scratched the side of his head. "Repeat what their names are again?"
Yugi held his satchel, containing the red and purple snake gems wrapped in a small blanket. "The red snake gem is named Aten, and the purple snake gem is named Shu. They're both males."
Yami smiled. "Aten means 'sun disk; heat and light of sun', and Shu means 'air'. I figured they would be comfortable with having Egyptian names since they're more familiar with their roots."
Ryou also had a satchel, but in a darker color. The flap is opened to reveal the green and blue snake gems, nestled on a blanket. "The green snake gem is named Azibo, and the blue snake gem is named Mesi. The green snake is male, and the blue snake is female."
"Earth and water. Not bad at all, landlord," Bakura commented.
"Named after the elements? Not bad at all," Duke whistled.
Tea smiled. "I think they're beautiful names. They suit them perfectly. You two definitely act like parental figures towards the gems."
"Which is also quite manly," Tristan gave them a thumbs up.
Yugi and Ryou blushed, rubbing the back of their heads while the gems bounced a little in their satchels. Yami chuckled at her statement, while Bakura rolled his eyes. Right now, they're inside the Blue-Eyes White Dragon jet, which is taking them to Cairo.
Kaiba is sitting close by with Mokuba, who begged him to let him join the trip. Since Mokuba finished all his homework for the weekend and the secretary will make sure everything is running smoothly at KaibaCorp, Kaiba complied and told Mokuba to stay close to him. Their personal pilot will take them to Egypt in half the time a regular plane can take there.
Everyone who joined consisted of Yugi, Yami, Ryou, Bakura, Joey, Tea, Tristan, and Duke. Solomon stayed to run the game shop, and wished them a safe journey while also promising to not be involved in danger like last time. This time, they kept their promise since Yugi's mom Hana Muto told them that if they did get involved with danger, she would ground them for life.
Speaking of Hana Muto, she was surprised to meet Yami and was explained everything on who he is and how it all began from Yugi solving the Millennium Puzzle to him first meeting Yami as a spirit and all the way to when they solved his name and helped his spirit move on. She was astonished to learn that Yugi and his two friends got themselves kidnapped by an Egyptian goddess due to them having relations to Ancient Egypt and resembling her deceased sons.
It took a while to explain everything, but she surprisingly handled it well. She even welcomed Yami into their home with warm arms, and already thought of him as her own son. Though she soon learned that both Yugi and Yami started a relationship with each other, and saw how happy they were. She sat down with them and told them she didn't mind, but made sure they remember her statement.
"As long as you two are happy with each other, I am happy. Yugi, I do not mind you dating him as long as you promise me to concentrate on your studies and do well in school. I want you to have a great and bright future. Keep your grades up, and I won't pry into your date life with Yami. However, promise me that the two of you won't do anything sexual in the house. Wait until after marriage."
Her words caused them to blush so much, since they never thought of going that far. Right now, they're at the hugging and kissing stage, which they're still comfortable with. It'll probably take a while until they are ready to do intimate things with each other. However, they kept their promise with her and Yugi always made sure to do his homework on time and make good grades while Yami encourages him and reminds him of his work.
Now, they're on the plane with their friends, and will land in Cairo to meet up with Malik, Mariku, Ishizu, and Odion. They'll take them over to their aunt Sadiki's home, who wished to confirm that they did find the 7 snake gems. Once that happens, she and the members will drive them to Wadjet's resting chambers, and place the gems in her tomb.
"Okay, I got their names now. What was the name of the silver gem again?" Joey asked.
Yami brought out the silver gem, who was buried deep inside Yugi's satchel and had it rest comfortably next to the other snake gems. "We named this one Nathifa. It means pure, and we discovered she's a female snake."
"We even saw her summon a female Ka monster, who resembled an angel. She was tall, had long white hair, and wore a long white dress with armor, a crown, and angel wings on her back," Yugi explained. "Luckily, she didn't attack and was really nice. She is a combination of both the black and white snake gems, who are able to summon Lightpulsar Dragon and Darkflare Dragon. She's actually a very powerful snake gem."
Tea fist-pumped. "You never underestimate a female. We know how to fight and unleash our powers on our opponents."
"Like the time you hit Seto with your book-bag because you thought he made Joey cry?" Tristan snickered.
Seto glared at him. "Not another word, Taylor. Also, I would never make my puppy cry."
"Again, I apologize because Joey is one of my best friends and I will not forgive anyone who dare make my friends cry or hurt them," Tea replied. "Just be lucky I didn't fill my bag with heavy textbooks or I would've cracked your skull open."
"You would've been sued, Gardner," Seto scowled, and went back to typing on his laptop.
Tea rolled her eyes, and went back to reading her magazine while sitting in her seat. Duke and Tristan were still snickering, and had to avoid getting hit with a magazine thrown by Mokuba, who wanted them to stop laughing at his brother. Instead, they relaxed in their seats and played some games on their phones. Yami and Yugi dueled against each other with their signature monsters, while Bakura and Ryou did the same. Joey chose to take a nap, closing his eyes and letting sleep takeover him since it will be a long flight.
"Welcome back to Cairo, everyone!" Malik waved them over. "Good to see you again!"
Tea looked at his outfit, and her eyes lit up in stars. "What an amazing outfit! It suits you well!"
Malik nearly tripped on his feet, and snarled while his cheeks were blushing pink. "Forget about my outfit and focus on the task here! I had no other choice since they said it's for my own safety!" He pointed his thumb over to his siblings. "Also, how come Yugi and Ryou aren't wearing their disguises? Shouldn't they go through the same embarrassment like I am?"
Yugi turned red at his comment. "H-How about we focus on going to Goddess Wadjet's home? T-That's what we came here for."
Ryou quickly nodded his head, also blushing. "A-Agreed. Y-You also mentioned we must go to your auntie's home immediately, right?"
"That is correct. Let us go in the car immediately," Ishizu replied, guiding them out of the airport and over to the van.
The same man who took them to their hotel last time they were greeted them warmly, and drove them over to their destination. The car ride is silent, and they were all wondering what would happen once they go to the Wasem Clan residence. They will see the snake gems, and be happy to hear that they have been found. Everything will return back to normal once they return back to their home, and they no longer have to go through any danger or Egyptian hocus pocus like Kaiba said.
While everyone pondered over and ignored the effects of jetlag, they soon arrived at the residence. Getting their things out and paying the driver while thanking him for the ride, they went over to the door and knocked on it. Then, a woman opened the door and is surprised to see them.
Ishizu gave her a smile. "Auntie Sadiki, we apologize for the intrusion but we are here to show you and the members something. Its related to the cobra goddess."
Sensing how serious it is, she ushered them to come inside. They came in and the other members helped brought their things in. She guided the gang over to the living room, and had them sit on the couches. She sat on a chair, and gave them a warm smile. "What seems to be the problem?"
Ishizu ushered the others to show them what they found, causing them to nod as Yugi, Ryou, and Malik opened the flaps from their satchels and placed the items on the table. This caused Sadiki to gasp, along with the rest of the Wasem Clan members.
She took a closer look at them, not believing what she is seeing in front of her. "G-Goddess Wadjet's snake gems? W-Where did you find them?"
Ishizu explained to her aunt everything on what happened, and how they first made their appearance. Sadiki listened attentively, her eyes widening a bit to learn that Yugi and Ryou were able to meet their ancestors by the silver snake gem's powers. As Ishizu finished her explanation, Sadiki closed her eyes to summarize everything she was told.
She opened her eyes and gazed at the snake gems, seeing the baby snakes inside the jewels watching her. She looked over at Yugi & Ryou for a minute, and then back at Ishizu. "You did the right thing bringing them here. We must return them to the cobra queen's resting chambers immediately."
"Shall we leave tomorrow morning to get a head start on the journey?" Odion asked.
Sadiki shook her head. "My sweet nephew, I'm afraid not all of us can go there. The snake gems must be returned to the Temple of Nebesha. He will inform her that her snake jewels have been discovered and returned to their rightful place."
Malik remembered the temple, and his eyebrows furrowed. "Are you talking about Umi, the elderly cobra who guarded the alter? The guardian of the book of Wadjet?"
She nodded. "You remembered he lived a very long life, right?" She saw him nod, and continued. "He and the other snakes have a way to communicate with their cobra queen. They tell her everything that happens in the temple. Before, you and your friends went to the altar because Umi recognized you 3 as the descendants of the snake princes. He trusts you 3, but not your friends."
"Why not Yami, Bakura, or Mariku? They're able to touch the snake gems like us," Yugi mentioned.
"They trust them, but they are more comfortable with their snake princes. You, Ryou, and Malik are the ones who will give the snake gems over to Umi. After that, we will see if the cobra goddess shall make her appearance from the afterlife."
Yami arched his eyebrow in confusion. "There's a possibility she will come back?"
"If she comes back, not when. We do not know for sure."
Bakura scoffs. "Even if she does return or not, she can't stay long in the mortal realm. She must remain in the afterlife with the other Egyptian gods and goddesses. They're still keeping an eye on her because of what she did before."
"Goddess Wadjet is a good person. Don't forget she saved us from Nehebkau and helped us revive you 3 from death," Ryou reminded him. "She is our savior and protector."
"It is not a good idea to insult the cobra queen, especially since we worship her," Sadiki added.
Bakura rolled his eyes and looked away while folding his arms. Ryou shook his head at his yami's antics, Mariku snickered at Bakura, and Malik's eyebrow twitched in anger at how rude Bakura sounded. Odion apologized for Bakura's behavior, while Sadiki told him it was all right.
Yami cleared his throat to gain their attention. "All of us can still go to the Temple of Nebesheh, but our hikaris are the only ones who can go up to the altar and return the snake gems? We can't go up there with them?"
"You are correct, my pharaoh. Umi does not know you, the bandit king, or the assassin. He is only familiar with his snake princes. It is best that he does not see anyone near the altar," Sadiki explained.
"There's really an elderly cobra who lived for a very long time?" Mokuba asked in awe. "I had no idea."
"You'll be explained everything later," Kaiba said. "What I want to know is will all this Egyptian hocus pocus go away after we return those jewels?"
Sadiki nodded her head. "Once the snake gems are returned back to their rightful spot, the cobra goddess will be at peace along with her snakes. No one will dare go near the snake gems nor find them ever again. They will remain in the afterlife forever."
"Better than having them cause mayhem here," Joey replied. "So when do we all go to the temple?"
"Tomorrow morning. It is best all of you get some rest. Right now, you can spend the night here at our home. We have plenty of room for everyone," she offered.
"Thank you! We'd be honored!" Tea replied, and elbowed Kaiba so he would close his mouth and not complain.
"Excellent! Now, have any of you eaten yet?"
"The orange snake gem is named Nuru, and the yellow snake gem is named Re. They're both male snakes, and they approve of those names," Malik said, showing them the orange and yellow snake gem resting in his satchel.
"Those are really great names. Nuru means 'born during the day', and Re means 'midday sun', right?" Yugi asked.
"It is," Ryou answered him. "Now all of the snake gems have names in order by their color: Aten, Nuru, Re, Azibo, Mesi, Shu, and Nathifa."
Malik blinked, and then chuckled. "I thought I was the only one who named them. Guess I was wrong."
"All of us did. We feel protective to these snake gems," Yugi said, and held the red, purple, and silver snake gems resting in his satchel. "Now that we've found them, we can return them back home."
Ryou agreed, and gazed at the green and blue snake gems resting in his own satchel. Right now, the 3 of them are in one of the guest rooms where Malik is staying in. Well, both he and Mariku are sleeping in this room while his siblings are sleeping in the other rooms. Right now, they decided to hang out here and show each other the snake gems while everyone else is getting a tour of the house, bathing, or learning more about the Wasem Clan.
As for their yamis', they're outside in the backyard having a duel. Well, mostly Bakura and Mariku along with Kaiba challenging Yami to a duel. Hopefully, they won't cause any destruction nor scar anyone for life from their intense battles. Everyone already finished eating dinner, and now their stomachs are happy. Since it was still a little early, they figured they could pass the time by doing something here.
"Yugi. Ryou. You two met your ancestors, right?" Malik asked them.
Ryou nodded. "We did. They resembled us like Nagini and the others described, and they were very kind. They showed us their memories from their first meeting with Goddess Wadjet all the way to their demise." He looked at the ceiling for a moment. "To me, Riyu is very mature. He acts a little grown-up, and is very loyal to his snake family."
"That's what I thought when I met Heba. He's also very courageous, and is quite smart. He's loyal to his snake family, especially towards Viola," Yugi added.
Malik frowned a little, looking down at his lap. "I wish I was able to meet Namu. Maybe he could help me get over my phobia towards snakes."
Ryou patted his shoulder. "It takes time for a phobia to be conquered. You just need to take it step by step. It won't take too long."
"I know you'll meet Namu and his snake Aurelia soon. I bet they'll be happy to meet you in person," Yugi reassured him. "Plus, we'll take it slow on helping you conquer your phobia. Holding the snake gems that has baby snakes inside is a good start."
Malik shrugged, and held the gems up to get a closer look at the baby snakes. "I guess you're right. I don't know how they prevented me from feeling scared, but I'm thankful towards them." He gave the orange and yellow snake gems a smile. "Thank you for not being afraid of me. I'm glad you two can trust me and Mariku."
The baby snakes blinked, and their gems glowed as to say 'you're welcome' to him. Malik chuckled and kissed the snake gems, and brought them closer to his chest. "I can see why our parental instincts are strong. Its like we're taking care of our own children."
Yugi smiled, and held the red, purple, and silver snake gems in his arms. "This must be how Goddess Wadjet felt when she raised Heba, Riyu, and Namu when they were small."
"And now, its gonna be hard letting them go. We're already attached to them," Ryou sighs, and held the green and blue snake gems closer to his heart. "The one thing I will be happy about is not wearing a dress or skirt again."
"I hear you. I even had to stop Yami from giving Tea ideas," Yugi blushed. "Malik, you're lucky you weren't forced into wearing a skirt."
"I guess the long dress I wore is better than wearing a skirt. Though I do know this: Odion and I will never let Ishizu wear a short skirt. Plus, she's not comfortable with wearing something short," Malik replied.
"If memory serves, your purple top showed your stomach. Shouldn't that be considered short?"
"That's different, Ryou. Its called style."
"What about-
"Don't forget you also wore leather like the pharaoh when you two shared a body, Yugi."
"I-It was Yami's idea, not mine!"
"Whatever you say~"
"I-I'm serious, Malik!"
The next day
The ride had been long, but they arrived safely at the Temple of Nebesheh. Standing in front of the entrance, the gang felt shivers going down their spines. Even though they came here before, they remembered what Darius told them of snakes inside the temple. They must stay together, and not get close to any venomous viper or risk getting bitten by one.
This time, Sadiki and a member of the Wasem Clan named Paki joined them on their journey. They were bitter towards Darius and Halima who tricked the group when they nearly got captured and killed by Nehebkau, but luckily, Malik convinced them to give them another chance. What they did was wrong, but they atoned their crime by praying for Wadjet's forgiveness and being better people. This time, they won't let themselves by scared by Nehebkau or any deity that threatens them.
Duke whistled at the structure. "Still huge the last time I saw this place."
Tristan arched his eyebrow. "You snuck over here to figure out what we were up to. Did you even have time to study the ruins?"
Duke rolled his eyes. "Of course I paid attention to my surroundings. I know there are always dangerous creatures around, so I had to be extremely cautious and not run into anything that can bite me."
Tea sweat-dropped. "Just stay close to us so none of us would get hurt."
Paki picked up a torch, lighting it up and led everyone inside the temple. Sadiki walked behind him, and the others walked behind her. They remembered what the inside looked like: pillars, hieroglyphics, pots, and many others. They even spotted the same black snake coiled around a small statue, its beady eyes studying them as they continued to walk on the pathway. Joey gulped and scooted closer to the group. "That snake is looking at us."
Mokuba clutched tightly onto the fabric of Seto's cape. "T-This place is definitely creepy."
"This is why I couldn't bring you here, Mokuba. It would've been too dangerous and risky," Seto said.
"I-I can handle it! And besides, I've seen scarier things," Mokuba replied. "I'm not scared of snakes!"
"Except we're in Cairo. Most of their snakes are venomous," Tristan added.
Duke quivered. "I prefer not thinking about them. That helps calm me down."
Seto glared at them. "Do not scare my younger brother. Don't forget that you two were scared of a giant, two-headed snake god who tried to kill us."
"H-Hey! That thing was freaky!" Tristan exclaimed.
"Yeah! Wouldn't anyone freak out over a giant, two-headed snake!?" Duke retorted.
Before they could argue more, they were shushed as they stopped in front of the altar. Yugi could feel his satchel shaking, and the same goes for Ryou and Malik. They lifted up the flaps to reveal the snake gems glowing brightly and moving around, wanting to get out. Realizing they wish to go up to the altar, Malik took a step forward. "Yugi, Ryou, and I will go up to the altar and give the snake jewels to Umi. We'll make sure to come back down safe and sound."
Sadiki and Paki nodded, and stepped aside to let them pass. Reassuring their friends and lovers they would be okay, they held their satchels close to them and went up the stairs. The closer they get there, the stronger the urge and feeling to get there faster. They knew Umi and the book are calling out to them; calling out to the snake gems.
As they reached to the top, their eyes met with a pair of ruby red eyes twinkling from the light. He stood at his position, flaring his hood out while flicking its forked tongue at them. He noticed the gems in their satchel, and let out a small hiss. Slithering over to where the book is, he rested his body against the flat surface and flicked its tongue again.
Realizing he wanted them to place the gems on the flat surface, the boys carefully got the gems out of their satchels and gently placed them on the surface. They were placed around in a circle, ranging from red to silver. As they were placed properly, they started to glow brightly.
Then, the book began to glow along with Umi. The gems started to rise up in the air, moving around in a circle as they shined brightly. Soon, the whole temple began to glow along with the hieroglyphics. They could hear Umi hissing loudly, along with something holding them. It didn't feel scary, but warm and comforting.
"Thank you, my gems~"
Yugi, Ryou, and Malik's eyes widened in shock to see Goddess Wadjet's spirit appearing in the air, as the snake gems surrounding her shined brightly. They covered their eyes, missing her gentle smile as the entire temple is engulfed in white light.
Joey wasn't sure what happened today. After his pals placed them gems on the altar, everything started to glow and they all somehow ended up outside the temple. No one got hurt, but Yugi, Ryou, and Malik were crying. Yami, Bakura, and Mariku comforted them, letting them know that they did the right thing returning the snake gems back to their home.
It turns out Goddess Wadjet actually appeared to them, and thanked them for returning her snake jewels. He's not sure if they're crying because their ancestors are missing their mother, or their separation from the snake gems due to their parental instincts. Joey thinks it's both, and chose not to say it so they wouldn't cry again.
Now, they're all back at the Wasem Clan's home trying to figure out what happened today. Yugi, Ryou, and Malik were taken to the guest rooms by their darker halves, probably to comfort them more. Tea, Tristan, Duke, Mokuba, Ishizu, and Odion remained in the living room being served tea and snacks by Sadiki and the other members of the Wasem Clan.
As for Seto, he chose to go take a breather in his assigned guest room. He also dragged Joey along so he wouldn't feel lonely. Joey is certain Seto was thinking about it, and is too stubborn to admit it. Now, they're on the bed with Seto lying down with his arm draped over his eyes.
Joey sat upright on the bed next to him. "You feelin okay, Kaiba?"
A loud sigh escaped his lips, and lifted his arm to let it rest by his side. "I'm not even sure. There's too much Egyptian hocus pocus, and I'm sick and tired of it." He turned his head halfway to look at Joey. "Once we return back to Domino, we're getting some alone time. Just you and me with no one bothering us. If I see any danger in the city that relates to Egypt, I'm blaming the pharaoh and his crazy friends on this one."
Joey arched his eyebrow. "You mean Yami, Bakura, and Mariku? Things always happen dat involve ancient Egypt and whatever mumbo jumbo we go through. But now, we no longer have to go through with it." He then realized something. "Also, did you just ask me out on a date or something?"
"Correct. I won't tell you because it's a surprise."
"If it's a fancy dinner restaurant, then it'll be a disaster."
"Nope. It's something different. Just wear casual."
"Are you the real Seto Kaiba?"
"Do you still have that Red Eyes Black Dragon plush toy you always sleep with?"
"Wait a minute! How'd you know about that!?"
"The maids saw it while cleaning your room."
Joey looked away and pouted, crossing his arms over his chest. "At least they were nice enough to tuck him in while he was sleeping."
Seto chuckled, and sat up on the bed. "Like I said before, wear something casual for our date. It's not a fancy restaurant or anything. We'll wait until you're ready to go there with me."
"Good, because Joey Wheeler isn't comfortable with fancy places. They give me nightmares."
"I thought snakes give you nightmares?"
"They still do!"
Seto pulled him closer, and wrapped his arm around him to hold him in a side-hug. "They won't go near you, puppy. Your dragon will protect you from danger."
Joey blushed, and then huffed. "I'm not a fragile princess, okay? That would be Mokuba since he gets kidnapped so many times."
Seto chuckled more, and hugged him while Joey leaned against him to feel his warmth. A casual date with Seto wouldn't be too bad. Plus, there would be no more danger approaching them, and they can focus on graduating school. All that's left is for the last month of school to come by so they can be prepared for the future.
