Chapter 23: Revealed
Darkness…that's all I saw.
Then a light.
I bet it was Heaven.
I tried walking to it but it seemed that I couldn't. I heard something it sounded muffled and hard to understand. Then the light got brighter and bigger. The sound then sounded like a voice.
No two voices. Wait three? And one loud one. Then the light became colors. I saw blurry swirls and colors. Suddenly the voices became more loud and clear. "Bat! Bat!" the voices know my name. Then the swirls of colors became blotches of blurry colors. Red…Green…Blue…White and black. Then figures the figures became clearer. It was Doc, Susan, Link, and B.O.B.
Did they die and go to heaven with me? I thought. Then I opened my eyes even wider. "She's alive!" yelled B.O.B. excitedly. The others cheered. I noticed they were all surrounding me while my head was laying on something.
"Wha-?…where…" was all that came out of me.
"We finally escaped the place where they kept the Mother Slug," said Doc as he smiled at me.
What? A Mother Slug? I don't remember a Mother Slug! I thought to myself as I tried to get up. Pain shot through my whole body. I winced and screeched in pain. My sunglasses were bent and one of the lenses was cracked.
"Oh! Bat! You should take it easy," Susan said as she gently pressed my body to lie down. "But…we…have to…get…out of here…" I choked out and coughed.
"Yeah, we do, but we are safe here," answered Link. I slowly turned my head and looked around where we were hiding. It was what looked like the area where the announcers sit when they are announcing what's going on while a basketball game was happening. A window, without the glass, looked out to a huge open area two stories down.
"What is this place?" I asked.
"This is the Brain of the Mother Ship," said Doc proudly.
"How do you know that?" I asked him.
He smiled. "Look up," he said while pointing up.
I did.
My mouth dropped open and my eyes widened.
Literally it was a huge brain. A billion times bigger then the normal sized brain. High volts of electricity snapped and sparked. It hummed loudly which got me to wonder. Why didn't I hear it in the first place? Suddenly we hear noises outside the window. B.O.B. and Susan went over to see what it was. They gasp. "What is it?" asks Link and walks over. He gasps as well. He turns to Doc and me. "We've got trouble!" he said.
A whole army of aliens were climbing up to our hiding place. B.O.B. then did something I was really amazed he actually thought up. He grabbed a nearby alien shelving unit and let it fall down on the aliens; ten got hit and fell.
Susan and Link followed suit.
Doc picked me up and put my arm over his shoulder. He dragged me further away from the open window to the stems of cable cords that connected to the brain of the ship through the floor. He laid my broken body down and tried to pull up the hatch that was like a trap door.
"Link! Help me with this!" Doc called. Link turned around and ran over to Doc. He pushed Doc aside and with one arm he ripped the trap door from its hinges.
Down below was a zillion cords of black and had purple energy glowing and flowing through them. The cords ran in all crazy directions. Some sparked and fizzed.
Then I looked over to Susan who was running over to us. B.O.B. stretched his body over the mouth of the open window as the aliens tried to break through. "What are you doing?!" asked Susan as she crouched down to look at Doc in the eyes. "I'm going to destroy the brain of the Mother Ship," announced Doc. "What? No!" we all screamed.
I choked out, "I was lucky (cough) I didn't die…so don't be (cough! Cough!) stupid Doc, you may end up (cough) dead!" That took a lot out of me.
Susan started to tear up. "I don't want you to die Doc! Please! Don't do this!" she said as tears came rolling down her face. Doc looked up at her and came closer to her face.
He did something that amazed me so much; I didn't know he had it in him. He kissed Susan right on the lips. Susan's eyes widened and stopped crying.
Link and I gapped at what was just happening.
Doc took a step back and smiled. His face was red with embarrassment.
" I'm sorry, I didn't get to tell you this, but…I love you Susan, hurry and leave while you still can."
And with that he turned around and jumped down into the maze of impossible cords and tubes. We stared wide-eyed where Doc disappeared.
"Did you tell him to do that?" asked Link still in bewilderment. I slowly shook my head, wide eyed. Susan was also confused and shocked as well. Then the whole Mother Ship started to shake and lots of blaring alarm noises start to go off.
"Time to go," said Link as he scooped me up and ran.
Susan snapped out of it and followed Link.
